On first day: 1) When nervous armour yourself with information. 2) Plan & Prepare. 3) Refresh your understanding of your new role. 4) Refresh what the company is about. 5) Practice how you're going to introduce yourself. 6) Be curious. Eg., Ask why is it done that way. 7) You're in control of your own personal brand. 8) Write everything down. (Names of people, Questions, ideas, important information, actions etc). 9) Make a glossary of the terms used in your division of work and use these terms wherever possible. Using them will demonstrate your level of knowledge and connecting with people in a deeper way.
Such a calming voice. Today is my first day at a new company after almost 17 years at my last. Brought a notepad and pens and have been taking notes. Watching this on my lunch. Thank you!
great video, deserves way more views! just finished my first week at a full-time office job! while its remote for now, its key to take notes, ask questions to understand, be friendly and smile on video :) first day hurt my head with information overload, but once you start understanding things it makes for a much more enjoyable day
Thank-you so much, I am so glad I found this vid before my new role tomorrow, I have anxiety and you dont know how helpful this has been to me. New role, new industry and just thankyou mate
In the first 10 minutes of meeting your new team, the fear is being judged by them right off the bat. They are looking to see how nervous you are. If you go in with confidence, then you are one step ahead of your team. I had this fear, but my team (direct reports) was small, 8 people. So I thought one ice-breaker was to bring in a dozen donuts. Food always puts people as ease and for that moment, they are not judging you per say, but, seeing a manager who wants to succeed.
Great nerve-calming video that deserves all the praise. I am starting tomorrow my first corporate job and I am looking forward to use those nifty tips you gave in the video.
I have generalized anxiety disorder and my new job is as a Clinical Case Manager in a small mental health agency. I have over twelve years of experience in the field, but have been unemployed for the past six months. I really clicked with the hiring manager during my interview. I am also a Certified Peer Counselor, but this isn't part of my new job. I am worried about overshaing with my new coworkers. This video has made me a bit more confident, thank you.

Thanks Haasan - glad you’re getting value from it. The symbols I add are there so I can find the info I’m looking for. The glossary I start from the back page so that all of that info is together. The inside front cover I always put the names of important people so I don’t forget them, and the inside back cover for other important info like my employee ID, etc. That’s just what I do though, and I suggest you eventually find your own way that works well for you.
