Yeah! I think it's also a cool detail that the first skater touched what looks like the second skaters hands as a way to signal that she was a full lap ahead
For people asking how this could've happened... it's practical to start off slow, then break away closer to the end of the race. They have to do 14 laps. Typically if you start off too strong then you get smoked by the end. This only worked out because she was able to re-join the pack and went back to skating slowly. If any one of the other skaters challenged her fast start, both the Chinese skater and whomever joined her would've had to kept up and an aggressive pace the whole race to win. Also 14 laps is a lot so it's understandable that they lost count. They aren't focusing on the number of laps left; they're waiting for the announcer to say final lap. To many who think she is wasting energy, she only skate faster than everyone else so that she can appear to be last behind the last skater but actually was first. This do not take up much laps and also consider the fact that all the other skaters are just going slow, she can easily reach the last skater in probably two laps and for the subsequent laps, she can just conserve her energy by pacing but actually was already one laps ahead. However, one thing I find it very admirable is about her thought process. To be so sure that her contender will forget the laps requires lots of experience and observation. It gave the advantage to the second place skater.
Wait, I'm confused. If I understand this correctly, she basically confuses the others by making them think she has just as many laps left as everybody else, when in reality she's one lap ahead. But the others see her take over, why would they not know that she is one lap ahead?
The problem is that these competitions have like 20-30 laps and the TV shows what lap it is. So you are exhausted and see in the TV "Final lap", when it was the final lap for the Girl, not for everyone
the thing is this race have around 14 laps then no one on the race would pay huge attention to count this. The judge whistled to tell the clever girl she's on last lap, but others actually need 1 more to complete the whole run, so they kinda stopped halfways
Not only that, the second Chinese skater secured second place, while the other skaters were busy realizing that they had another lap to go. But by the time they realized, it was too late. A truly great tactic by those Chinese skaters. They cleverly secured both leading places.
Because if their opponents are able to follow the simplest strategy and they are not as dumb as a chicken, they will chase them as much as they can. If they can't follow the leader its ok, but in usual it's easier to chase
They thought she was going to keep going and burn out, it's very unconventional. If they had realised she stopped they should have all done a day lap to catch up, but when she didn't pass them they felt she had fallen behind and they'd just catch her in their sprint. @@rumpelstiltskin6150 theyre "training" was looking at the name 'speed skating' and deciding it was a jog. of course they arent gonna bother lapping anyone, your placement only matters in running. if you can get to the back of the pack theres no reason to burn harder.
Nothing you can say will defend their stupidity. They saw her surpass them and yet your brain thinks "oh who cares if their one lap ahead i must be winning!". If someone goes fast and doesnt suprass you that means their not going fast😂
Not really.. this race I think is about 13 laps, so what I believe to be correct is they will start of reasonably slow, with the lead person setting the pace, being at the front of the group is harder than being behind someone due to aerodynamics.. but basically it’s an endurance race until the last lap, that’s when they race, go as fast as they can to try and be first, it’s about conserving your energy and then having enough left at the end to push for the win. Sometimes they will pick up speed prior to the last lap, all depends on the racers, but what that woman did was use a lot of energy to speed round the ring, until she was at the back of the pack, while still being in first place, then did the endurance part, while benefiting from not being at the front, as people behind another person have it easier from a slipstream (aerodynamics stuff - I don’t know much but look it up, is quite interesting) What the others should have done imo if they wanted first place - was to make a break for it to try and catch up to the leader at some point, but by them all waiting until ruffly the last lap, it wasn’t actually their last lap but the leaders, so they left it to late, maybe they were so focused on what normally happens they forgot what she did early on, or maybe they didn’t wanna risk losing more so aimed for second place, idk Doubt she did it easily though, as it still requires a lot of energy, and you have to be very physically fit to race, she just played at her strengths.. or maybe at the opponents weaknesses lol Either way it helped her teammate get second place as they remembered the bell wasn’t for them and that she had one more lap to go afterwards, and her racing as fast as she could then - that secured her second place (Sorry I wrote a lot, I can’t help it, it’s hard for me to say what I wanna say so I tend to waffle on quite a bit, but hope you find my comment useful to your question)
These guys are PROFESSIONALS! They don't just forget where everyone is! Are you meaning to tell me that all other skaters simply forgot how the leader pushed ahead? LOL

The person at the front is called the leader at the leaders last lap they ring a bell so everyone goes faster but due to her being one leap ahead they couldn’t catch up in time even if they knew
I got grandma lore about this lol, found out my grandma used to be an ice racer (english isnt my first language) when she was about 14 in Holland Technically she's my step grandma but doesn't matter
Because you don't count laps you just focus on skating, when your on the last lap a bell rings and so they then go as fast as possible So when the person in front (who was at the back) passed the bell rung making everyone else think is was their last lap
When I was at Elementary I joined the track in field, there were 4 laps so most runners reserved energy. On the first lap I speed up and dash already so I was ahead half of the oval. On my 2nd lap I almost collapsed I was out of stamina. Luckily I finished the match and won first. The next day I was to compete on a higher level, I decided to decline to join because my body is still aching and I couldn't run anymore. Our house got a 7 step ladder back in the 2000 so it burdens a lot entering our home. Never do too much work without warm-up and vigorous training.

This is amazing and ill be waiting to hear you on the radio because i know you will make it that far
Is no one gonna talk about that little butt slap😂
"Don't hate the player, hate the game."
Playing with mind and body is not cheating, it's peak.
So you're telling us that these skaters did not even got the idea of acceleration
This is the women’s division. 😂
Absolutely brilliant!
This is a metaphor about life. Love it!
how do they not notice? i mean if you see someone overtaking you why do you go like sheep still the same pace?
something about the race looked super rigged.
Because there's still 12 laps to go...
@MartinToms yeah but if they don't, they already lost.
The state of the current world - the whole planet is like this. Sleepwalking...
@@cejayidcif they rush ahead in the first laps, they will burn out by the 6th or the 8th. They have to skate 13 laps, the best tactic is to conserve for 2/3 of the race atleast. Then increase slowly per lap till the last stretch and then go for broke
It seemed like her victory had less to do with their tactic than the fact that her competitors forgot how many laps they had skated.
They even forgot that she had lapped them all. I don't see how they can forget something so glaringly obvious
@@analogdistortion first: that was the tactic by second: slipping up in the back and just cruising to first place without alerting the other skaters she was a lap ahead. Third: her teammate understood the assignment.
She poured on the speed and won second.
Whether the other skaters counted or not, deception was the key to victory. It gave the advantage to the second place skater.
@@ewokwarrior2656 ya it was badass
The perfect definition of being quick on your feet. Like my grandma taught me stay 10 steps ahead 💯 💪
Not only that, the second Chinese skater secured second place, while the other skaters were busy realizing that they had another lap to go. But by the time they realized, it was too late. A truly great tactic by those Chinese skaters. They cleverly secured both leading places.
Its one of the few races that does not start like a race. Just a stupid convention, this video just prove it 😂
Ice skating fans when they see people go fast to win the race: 😱😱😱
I always was wondering why they are not doing this
Because if their opponents are able to follow the simplest strategy and they are not as dumb as a chicken, they will chase them as much as they can. If they can't follow the leader its ok, but in usual it's easier to chase
they should watch more races like f1 or motogp. clearly these people don't know the meaning of a race with laps
Most times they will follow not really able to rely on this
This is the women’s division. That strategy doesn’t work in the men’s division.
@@justinmadrid8712 cos men knows the meaning of a race
Skater that crossed line: "OMG I WON"
Chinese skaters:"Nah, I'd win 💀💀"
🤖
That high IQ points.
I wish this were possible in running
That not a single person thought to try and keep up says alot about the quality of skaters for that event.
They thought she was going to keep going and burn out, it's very unconventional.
If they had realised she stopped they should have all done a day lap to catch up, but when she didn't pass them they felt she had fallen behind and they'd just catch her in their sprint.
Can't blame them for following their training, tactics aren't often employed.
@@rumpelstiltskin6150 theyre "training" was looking at the name 'speed skating' and deciding it was a jog. of course they arent gonna bother lapping anyone, your placement only matters in running. if you can get to the back of the pack theres no reason to burn harder.
Losing track of her was lame.
Nothing you can say will defend their stupidity. They saw her surpass them and yet your brain thinks "oh who cares if their one lap ahead i must be winning!". If someone goes fast and doesnt suprass you that means their not going fast😂
@@pulsefel9210its a 13 lap 1,5km course
And the other skaters didn't even notice. Amazing!!
Bro actually pulled a Lightning McQueen.
Thinking outside the box worked perfectly.
So what it sounds like is nobody is pushing themselves if this girl could easily do that
Not really.. this race I think is about 13 laps, so what I believe to be correct is they will start of reasonably slow, with the lead person setting the pace, being at the front of the group is harder than being behind someone due to aerodynamics.. but basically it’s an endurance race until the last lap, that’s when they race, go as fast as they can to try and be first, it’s about conserving your energy and then having enough left at the end to push for the win. Sometimes they will pick up speed prior to the last lap, all depends on the racers, but what that woman did was use a lot of energy to speed round the ring, until she was at the back of the pack, while still being in first place, then did the endurance part, while benefiting from not being at the front, as people behind another person have it easier from a slipstream (aerodynamics stuff - I don’t know much but look it up, is quite interesting)
What the others should have done imo if they wanted first place - was to make a break for it to try and catch up to the leader at some point, but by them all waiting until ruffly the last lap, it wasn’t actually their last lap but the leaders, so they left it to late, maybe they were so focused on what normally happens they forgot what she did early on, or maybe they didn’t wanna risk losing more so aimed for second place, idk
Doubt she did it easily though, as it still requires a lot of energy, and you have to be very physically fit to race, she just played at her strengths.. or maybe at the opponents weaknesses lol
Either way it helped her teammate get second place as they remembered the bell wasn’t for them and that she had one more lap to go afterwards, and her racing as fast as she could then - that secured her second place
(Sorry I wrote a lot, I can’t help it, it’s hard for me to say what I wanna say so I tend to waffle on quite a bit, but hope you find my comment useful to your question)
@@adamc91 eh the race is less than an effing mile. on skates thats like a 100 yard sprint.
It's a race It's common sense in my opinion
@@jamesprince6367 Thank you. Someone gets it.
She will go down in history as the smartest skater!
These guys are PROFESSIONALS! They don't just forget where everyone is! Are you meaning to tell me that all other skaters simply forgot how the leader pushed ahead? LOL
The other contestants used 0% of their brain 🤡

Excellent 👍🏽
she outsmarted them
yes and no. for this part yes but in later heats she would have taken this as a bad idea
she didnt break the code she was just smarter than everybody else
Right, they said that part as if she TRULY broke a code of some kind. I'm looking for a penalty or disqualification at the end. Yep, she was just smarter, as you said.
She didn't "break" the code
She simply have more strength than others❤
What a woman🎉
Herrrrr! Smooth, slick and sly!!😂
I’ve seen people calling her a cheater lol
She broke no rule, how is she a cheater
The lap counter understood the assignment and didn't fall asleep.
She skated as fast as she could as long as she could in a race wow I never heard of that strategy
Yeah, usually in long distance you skate a a 70-80% pace
Most intelligent american right here
This Olympics competiters are getting smarter it's refreshing❤
Smarter? Did you miss the part where all but one person forgot someone lapped them?
That's how you go for the gold!!!!🤔🤯😳🙏
The champion mindset!!!!
How could they forget there’s one more lap to go, not possible
on the leaders last lap they ring a bell so the other racers go faster and waste energy
The person at the front is called the leader at the leaders last lap they ring a bell so everyone goes faster but due to her being one leap ahead they couldn’t catch up in time even if they knew
Park sunghoon and YangjinguARE LITERALLY GOOD AT ICE SKATING
woo i broke the code broke the code
That was insanely fast
I got grandma lore about this lol, found out my grandma used to be an ice racer (english isnt my first language) when she was about 14 in Holland
Technically she's my step grandma but doesn't matter
How does her doing another lap make the others forget how many laps they did
Because you don't count laps you just focus on skating, when your on the last lap a bell rings and so they then go as fast as possible
So when the person in front (who was at the back) passed the bell rung making everyone else think is was their last lap
@@datcheesecakeboi6745 that cant even be called racing. just make it one lap
Wowwwww going fast to win a race, nevera tought a out it 😮😮😮😮😮😮
Thing is is many laps and the stamina used to get a lap ahead in that time would exhaust most people she was able to keep up w the group even she ran
She made them look like AI 😂
China built different 💪 (Not bragging)
That’s what speed skating should be like. It would be exponentially more interesting. Now throw in full contact. Make it like murder ball. That’s a fkin international sport

I broke the code wooaoaoh
2 laps they had 2 laps
No they didn’t, they have many laps, but this guy only showed a couple.
They actually had 13 laps
Now this is called out of the box ❤
Can't wait to see it becoming the Isle Of Man TT type sports
