Especially when you take into consideration what CGI has largely replaced: set construction, combat damage, animatronics, background extras, creature creation, etc.
@@Johnlindsey289Absolutely and i believe those movies are incredible, but they're also a good contrast for what is happening in the industry, as LotR used a lot of practical effects, except where it would be hard to do, meanwhile the Hobbit movies, with their own merits but severely flawed, used CGI way to often, making the movie feel a lot more lifeless. I will mention the newest D&D as an example of again using both to great effect, so it is not all severely hopeless.
Just an incredible movie adaption of the world of Conan. Such brutality and yet wrapped in splendor. The music is so memorable and fits so well with every scene.
Some people in history did do it like this- they’d have it on their back while travelling, and then move it to their waist if they were expecting an encounter
I remember this scene like yesterday. I was 12 the first time I watched this, we snuck into the movie theater showing this because my dad fell asleep while we were watching raiders of the lost ark. It was a double feature, I don’t even remember the second movie 😂when Conan came on hbo, my sister blurted out he’s going to turn into a snake, my mother was sooo pissed at my dad😂
Me either! I know I saw it with my parents when it came out on VHS and I remembered that tune, the tree of woe and other points but totally missed the cannibalism
Two Warriors and a Rogue looking for a Healer and a Mage or Warlock for 'Temple of Set' 5 man dungeon. hmm.....no one? Shit well just have to try with just the three of us.
The only thing disappointing about Thulsa Doom transforming into a snake is that there is no pay off. He doesn’t use it for any particular purpose. The first time seeing this as a kid I thought he’d transform back into a snake or a snake man in his final battle with Conan. Didn’t happen… 😞
Yeah, this movie was "edited" a lot. There is one missing part in this scene where woman pulls out a foot from soup and bites it. I guess it wasn't really "television appropriate" content.
was it supposed that those people in that pleasure arena to be eaten by Thulsa Doom in his snake form? because that so called " paradise " looks like a bowl and those intoxicated people looks like food? is this right theory?
You have a good point. I always assumed Thulsa Doom transformed into a snake because he saw the intruders and wanted to make a quick escape. But you could be right, it was just dinner time.
Because it establishes his authenticity. He was the same age when he killed Conan's mother. He demonstrates (falsely or not) that true power is over the flesh, which is stronger than the Riddle of Steel. He commands power when sentencing Conan to the Tree of Woe. , which is a demonstration of true magic. He is a true foe.
The princess 👸 face actually looks more than a bit like Thulsa doom when he's shifting form. She also has that 🐍/🐒 look. 😲 She clearly looks like she's his daughter.
Uh since Thulsa Doom is fully in control of this place any hypothetical CCTV would be used by his guards. Ie people who aren't gonna comment on the whole snake cult cannibal thing.
Can anyone explain this for me. James character, a man able to turn into a snake is that his true form or is he a wizard. I don’t know the lore that much to know
The snake shapeshifting part scared the shit out of me as a kid
Me too
Same man, I never been so unsettled by a movie at that point
Same here.
It was amazing

This film still holds up well better than the CGI of today.
It’s the best film ever made IMHO and the soundtrack is Brilliance

@@josephsheranda Thank you
Yes but Lord of the rings may use some good cgi but used real sets, real locations at times and practical makeup on some creatures

R. I. P. James Earl Jones. The GOAT of Hollywood.

0:13 Subatai and Valeria are like “check this shit out Homie!” while Conan’s eyes pop open wide lol! 🤣🤣🤣👍
I mean we'd all say the same
A perfect film that is in a class all it's own.
Exactly what it should be.
This is my favorite piece in the score. It's slow build is evocative of Ravel's "Bolero".
🌟👏
Not to mention Gustav Holst's "Jupiter, the bringer of jollity"...
I saw this movie when I was six or seven. Good times, the Eighties.
I'll pass on the soup of the day, thank you.

i wouldnt exactly call casual cannibalism paradise but hey.... to each they're own i suppose
So that's how you make Soylent Green.
HAH! Crom laughs at the few dislikes
He laughs from his mountain.
This is wonderful !!! And the music too ; I love you conan, the barbarian !
Sabutai calls it paradise but he clearly misses that they all have to eat green human soup.
Yes Subotai missed the part about the soup
I believe he was being sarcastic there. ;)
Mmmm! Soylent green.
It was sarcasm.
That's because it's an occult M/\sonic Hollywood movie and in it Thulsa represents God, and they heavily hint at this, like calling his lair paradise
0:15 "We're pilgrims in an unholy land....."
In this movie he's known as James Earl Chad lol
I like the music
best sequence of the whole movie
A good nickname for Thulsa Doom might be "Sir Pent."
Personally I would have gone with an even crazier customized skin for Conan
That's some party

he uses it to get away; he may have even sensed the danger to his person.
Tulsa Doom is like the god of wine, Dionysius.

The True OG Dark Fantasy

I seem to remember this scene had a LOT less clothes in it when it first came out. Think they had to "edit" it to be able to broadcast.

the point is why showing that doom can transform in snake is after that scene, nothing of nothing. only that he can shoot serpent arrows

The actrees in the beginning is really looking, as if she getting inspired, by the scene 😅😂 The face she´s making is priceless ;)
