- The biggest and the best truck show around.....the 2021 ATCA National Meet in Macungie PA! Macks are always in plentiful supply and this year was no different. Here are just a few.
I still love cast spoke wheels and I will always love old Macks. The R series is great and the B series was great in its day. I drove an offset cab Mack a few years.
I’m with ya on that Rick, the old Dayton wheels look the best, especially on the square fender HD models.

I love those cabover semi trucks.
A lot of nice trucks @ Macungie . That show is definitely on my to do list. The B models, R models & DM Sidewinders along with DC & DK Autocar's all made myself & my family a good living back in the day. Like both those DM Sidewinders at the start of the video.
Was fortunate enough to be a heavy equipment operator in the Seabees 78to83 and learned and hauled heavy equipment with 2 different heavy duty DM 800 Mack's. One had a V8 the other a straight 6. Both of them you had to unscrew the kingpin out and lower the front of the trailer down with the winch ,load it up and then lift it back up and screw the kingpin back in. I was only 19 and felt like a big shot driving those trucks.
World was more interesting in the past - so much variety, different solutions. I come from Poland and I can tell you when I was a child in the late 70 Those American trucks were the most beautiful things on the planet for me. We had few good ones made in our country (like Star266) but they were mostly for military use and nowhere near the quality of the above. Our neighbors from Czechoslovakia (back then) had Tatras which I think were the best and most advanced trucks in the eastern block. Then there were the Russian machines like civilian Kamaz and and military Kraz and Ural - especially the famous beast - Ural 375 so ugly it was beautiful - so simple and solid that every blacksmith could fix it.. you could still see some of them in remote areas in the south working in forestry etc.. only issue was the fuel economy.
That last old B model wrecker looks like something straight out of Mad Max.

I like them old macks. I drove a rolloff for a while years ago and i started off in a newer kw 600 with a 350 cat and a 10 speed in it and it was gutless when it was loaded. Well it needed some maintenance done on it and i drove a mack that was two years. Older with a 350 hp mack amd a 8 speed mack trans in it and it would run circles around that kw. I told the company i worked for that i wanted to keep the mack amd they could give the kw to someone else. The mack was just more suited to haul heavy loads than the kw was.the kw was air ride and it swayed really bad when you turned but the spring ride on that mack didnt give at all. It was a helluva truck but it just wasnt a great looking truck like the kw was. When you hauling roll offs it aint about looks . Its about what you can haul and the mack was twice as good as the kw was

I grew up in macungie and remember seeing that kehs wrecker work. I think the shop was up at the top of the hill where 29 met 100 if I remember right.

Ive spent the most time in DM MACKs twin stick 6 Five and seven speed. Some R models as well.
Dad's first Mack he drove was a 56 LJ he said it had 3 sticks in it.
Im good with 2 great with one.
