Drew Dawkins he probably doesn't have enough time. This is located in Boston, so he can't just take a week from his super busy schedule in San Fran. Would be epic though
I am LOVING these maker space tour videos! The stuff these people build, and how they came about doing it is awesome. And the whole presentation and format of these videos are lovely. Keep up the good work :D I don't know if we have maker spaces in the UK, but it's encouraged me to find out. Loved the metal robots.
A friend of mine who has an art gallery started selling Skunk's robots 4 or 5 years ago. My family got me Kyria, one of the early robots, for Christmas in 2013. She hangs out on my work desk. skunkadelia.com/works/robots/castillo-class-astrobots/kyria/
Gave a chuckle when I noted RadMax's tape-on-black-frame-glasses then was a little moved when I noted that RadMax has an incomplete arm. That showed how nerd power has come a ways. I would be interested to see if he's built any holding gadgets for welding or anything else. Very cool vid of an interesting place, indeed.
We just became a member of Artisan's Asylum we refurbish PC's and donate to kids with autism and other disabilities such big fans of you Adam we do miss you doing MythBusters we used to watch you every single week
This was so fun to watch, love Adam's enthusiasm. Also look the evolution from 15:00, there are so much stiffness on presentating each other and then @ 21:40 they are like they were friends from years
Cool! Several of my friends have studios there! Alas, it's too stimulating for me to work there because of the fluorescent lights & noise. Which is a shame because Davis Square (in Somerville) is only 20 min. away. Are you still in the area (June 24,2017)?
When you tell your parole officer you are going to an AA meeting you should be fine, LOL Well technically you are going to an AA meeting just of the different kind and is probably better therapy.
'I don't usually paint', well, you do *not* want to see what my 'I don't usually point' looks like. I hate it when people are just good at things. Oh well. (I really just wish I could draw, very useful, in fact.)
TheAlbinoskunk I had a high ranking boss (that I had never met before) do that to me. it was busy and she extended her "hand" (stub) for a hand shake. I went with it and shook it like normal. she was gaging how well I handled being thrown into an awkward situation. but I think it kind of threw her off that I was so OK with it. I worked with the public, nothing fazed me anymore. lol
Adam (or anyone really) I have a couple of 3D Printers, tons of tools and knowledge. I also mentor as well. I am interested in opening my knowledge and others as well to my community and create a maker's space. Thoughts on a starting point? Is there a specific Federal Grant or some other place I can apply to get funding for an actual space? Thanks for any ideas you might have.
I don't know but i would assume you have to treat it as a "business" i.e make a plan by find a reasonable size space/location, try to find other people interested in co-founding or sponsoring the start up (as in the beginning it will be basically non-profit), figuring out membership fees ect, starting off basic like these with different "departments/spaces", figuring out health and safety concerns, not sure but may need to get insurance then simply work your way up from a small shop and in a few years of HARD work and investment you may end up like this.
The Explorographer Where are you located? There are plenty of "Gaps" in the growing "Maker Web". I would love to see one South of Boston. Or, even in R.I.
18:30 So.. generator driving a motor. Seems a bit silly to connect the two motors that way, instead of just driving them off the grid or battery, controlled with a microcontroller.
I think that the double headed pliers was used to pry a part master locks. Don't quote me on it, i just know that you can put two wrenches in between the bars of a master lock and and squeeze and the pressure pops the lock apart, (destroying it), i've done it, but seen it used like that with two small loose wrenches.
Just a reminder since the next video that was uploaded has comments disabled: any time the comments are disabled, I hit dislike on the video in question. Always. As a rule. A refusal to hear conversation stemming from a crippling fear of criticism *on a piece of work put into the public for consumption* (not a private matter, which could reasonably be expected to be kept away from public discussion) is in itself a worthy reason to criticize the piece. I'll do so in an orderly and reasonable way, but it will be criticism none the less. Additionally, yes, with the current youtube system a video receiving an unusually high number of dislikes does affect its reach, LinusTechTips has gone into details of this in their own recent experiences. So, it cannot be said that this does nothing, or can simply be ignored when many people react in this way. And, if the presumable reasoning for disabling conversation is that some people will use it as a tool not to converse, or even to criticize, but instead to simply scream profanity while their own ears are deaf, to that I say that my position stands. Silencing everyone because some are detestable is itself detestable, at least to me and many others.
Tested disables youtube comments in all videos where minors are present (she is apparently 17), but you are free to comment on the tested.com post, a place where the authors are much more likely to read and discuss it
MerfolkMTG I'm not sure how you mean. I have an opinion, and I've stated it. If that implies a high option of myself then I guess I'm glad I don't have such self esteem issues as to deny myself even having or stating opinions.
zeugundso This seems more reasonable, although I believe they've disable comments in the past when no minors have been present. Additionally, if disabling of comments is necessary, it does lead to the question "should minors be featured in public videos to begin with?"
it means so much that he always asks before approaching the works. as an artist it is so frustrating when people just start handling things that they know nothing about. a painting could be wet, or easily smudged, or delicate. so many times people just focus n wanting to sate their own curiosity. and they give the artist a heart attack.
Howe's life? Not gonna lie, it seems like Norm is one of those people. Maybe he asks about stuff off camera or something, but every time he does a video in Adam's shop it seems like he just starts putting his hands all over stuff. I don't dislike Norm or anything, but sometimes he rubs me the wrong way with how much he starts touching things when he has no clue what they do.
Adam is so good about asking permission, AND good about asking about inspirations. People commenting here should ask themselves, "Would Adam Savage say what I'm about to write?", and UA-cam would be a nicer place.
EDIT 6-20-17: Skunk got back and I am on the list for a camera as seen in the booth with a few weeks lead time! Muahahaha!!!! Hahaha, just went over to Skunk's website to look at all his amazing robots, it started having issues during my visit, likely due to all the new traffic. Something tells me the Tested bomb has gone off, glad I got my e-mail in! He has some incredible robots!
I really love looking at these projects. You should do a TV show, going around the world looking at maker spaces... explaining the historic makers like the old atomiton makers and such. It's most interesting to see the verity of making options. Lost arts that were abandoned by civilization do to the missassumption that it was to far a concept to even approach. Thanks Adam and all the guys at tested for giving something so educational and beautiful an entertaining and instructional stage to view it on.
That's insane I could easily build this stuff with all the scrap I have so I'm gonna start building stuff tonight and hopefully I can become rich in the next couple years selling scrap garbage lol
@@CadillacJak It is unlikely that you would become rich. Also, if you think of it as "scrap garbage" versus art, why would anyone want to buy from you?
Didn’t care about anything but those robots. Absolutely beautiful. Today after watching this I experimented with making one of these. It was very hard. I rewatched this and I see the level of detail; it’s amazing. I plan to keep trying and get better.
knop3se I'd say community dude! If you're a weirdo (I'm saying that in the nicest possible way!) it's cool to find other weirdos that are into the same crazy shit as you!
It's fun. I used to go with a bicycle group and just ride around town, nothing as eccentric as them as they were mostly normal bikes, but it's just fun and social
aylum needs a youtube channel!!
It's probably totally infeasible, but a series that just went through the whole asylum would be *super cool*.
I have the feeling that Adam would definitely go for it.
Drew Dawkins he probably doesn't have enough time. This is located in Boston, so he can't just take a week from his super busy schedule in San Fran. Would be epic though
As a member of the asylum, I am working on doing that.
Would be amazing to have!
They have tours there & Open Studio days. You can probably sign up for work time there as well.
So glad that Boston artist-maker scene is getting the attention it deserves.
I am LOVING these maker space tour videos! The stuff these people build, and how they came about doing it is awesome. And the whole presentation and format of these videos are lovely. Keep up the good work :D

I watched this and fell in love with the robots. So much so I just bought Bryce the one with the red head to the left.
Kristen, who produced/directed this piece, bought one too -- Otis. And of course Adam bought Adrianna.
On the waiting list for one of the cameras!
Showed this video to my good friend and he too wants a AA here.
William Tufts that's my favorite one he has there. Congratulations dude!

Hey Dave! (Turil here.)
Adam's enthusiasm is the reason I watch his videos. I could watch and listen to him all day.
Gave a chuckle when I noted RadMax's tape-on-black-frame-glasses then was a little moved when I noted that RadMax has an incomplete arm. That showed how nerd power has come a ways. I would be interested to see if he's built any holding gadgets for welding or anything else.

I happen to know them. They've built a couple custom arms including one with a hidden flask, and another to hold their tig rod while welding.
This is all so gorgeous. You can see Adam's appreciation of their work. Beautiful.

"That made my day."
"Hehe, it made _my_ day."
So sweet.
excellent episode. The owl art project looks so cool and fun. Love that the design is going to be open source.

When Adam buys the robot you loved.
the metal robots (adam bought one of them) looked so amazing...wouldnt mind to have a few on a shelf in my home
I am LOVING this series.
In the bike shop,, I think it's funny that you go st8 for the Falco's ( wire cutters) Like a good stagehand would. IATSE 720 here

Man I SO WISH there was a place like that here in PR. I would love to go there all the damn time n just go crazy building shit
*RAD MAX IS FKIN AWESOME 😊😊*
I have just realised that i love to hear people talking about their passion, no matter the subject 😲
I love the idea of maker spaces!! There need to be many more here in Switzerland!!
Is it weird that I'm tearing up from joy?!
It's not. I am too.
The way Adam eyed the robot... I knew he'll buy it weather its on cam or off cam.
WOW......I am totally blown away this is awesome
Those robots are awesome! I want one!
Give those scul guys their own film. Bill and Ted style.
There is a SCUL movie.
I'd love to see a stop motion movie with the robots :D
Dang, this needed to be in 4k, cool looking stuff. :D
Thanks Adam for sharing this. This has inspired me to start building stuff out of bikes.
what a brilliant and inspiring space!
Those kids are freaking awsome.
Andrés Barriga Sewer here. Thanks much!
wow those robots are soooooo cool !

that handless guy could make a multitool prosthesis. it would look cool.
I appreciate the subtitles. It's pretty noisy in here.
really need some one day builds in my life

Question could you build your own Stanley Cup replica? (Obviously make a video on it cause it's gonna be cool I think)
more from these guys please
I would like to see one of the robots from skunkadelia made into an automata.
Those robots are 600 dollars. I'm really tempted.
4:45 man was I relieved that he didn't offer his left hand to shake

Great tour, but no arbor press :(
Dimble just at the 15 minute mark, the walk through as he's saying "How's your tour been so far?" ;)
wow what an amazing place !
I was considering buying Adriana cause she really caught my eye... then Adam bought her -_-
How has that guy not made himself a cool robot arm yet? XP
he has actually!

idk why but I was sure adam was going to buy that one

Does the guy with the scrap metal robots have an instagram or something to follow his projects?
They go for around $450 by the way. Checked his website.

that's not too much for a sculpture like this
