It makes no sense to me that MGA sent these to adult collectors with a predominantly adult audience. Did they really think that we were going to like this rebrand? 😭 gurlll
I was thinking the same thing! They want to appeal more to younger kids but have sent PR to adult doll collectors whose audience, I imagine, are the majority other adult doll collectors.
@@atdrago8347 There’s definitely valid arguments for both sides, and I do see your point. I’m just confused by their marketing since sending these to adult influencers is a risky decision if none of them have anything positive to say. Luckily for MGA, Melissa didn’t go too hard on them in this video, but I could easily imagine that a string of negative reviews from adult collectors could potentially fuel a hate train before these dolls even appear on shelves. So I guess my question would be: why would MGA take that risk of these dolls being publicly trashed if they aren’t targeting adult collectors in the first place? I might be mistaken, but I think there’s plenty of different doll influencers who target a much younger audience who could review these dolls. That being said, I do love Melissa’s reviews and I’d watch anything she puts out, so definitely no shade to her, it’s just MGA and their decision making that has me a lil confused, lol.

I think they're trying to appeal to the adult audience more. Meanwhile, all of this stuff was originally designed for the kids and we, adults, need to respect that. We adults always say, 'A child needs to stay in a child's place,' but look at how we destroy their "spaces".
I have always believed that the Rainbow High line was an absolute gift, that couldn’t last long. It was a blessing when it started that helped get through Covid era depression, and I’ll be forever grateful that I was alive at the start. I am sad that it had to end, but as I said, expected.
I agree but hopefully it won't be the end but like you said we have a nice collection and i will try and be happy with that 🥰🥰❤❤
It seems like every doll company has something great and then they decide to make it crap
I still believe adult collectors were a big part of the public for rainbow high, and i dont think most of them will keep buying the dolls after this rebrand. They took everthing that made rainbow high attractive to us. Sadly, i dont see rainbow high living for much longer...
ALSO they took away all the diversity of the line... i think is weird that they choosed to replace poppy with amaya instead of replacing her with a more inclusive character. Its sad, since we had to fight for so long to get diversity in this line...
I agree!! Like, the high quality fashion was really the only thing that made the line stand out and become as popular as it is. Now there's nothing much making them stand out against the many dolls aimed at little kids. I doubt this rebrand will do them much good
Honestly most doll lines don’t ever focus group the teen young adult or adult collectors and despite the fact that we actually make up a very significant percentage of consumers we don’t usually get recognition either. Pr boxes most often are send to adults not children. I think we deserve more from these companies. Children usually don’t buy their own dolls it’s us buying for them or giving as gifts.

Rainbow High had been my number 1 line since it’s release, and unfortunately this line and destruction of the brand has killed off my interest for them. I get that us adult collectors are not their primary audience, but the high fashion and amazing quality was what made Rainbow High stand out imo. They put the FASHION back in mainline fashion dolls. Reverting back to this 2018 slime gimmick just seems SO reductive to me, and now they’re basically just doing what Mattel has been doing, but years too late. If they also do the Mattel thing where they throw out a single doll in the original style a couple of times a year but mark it up to $70-$100 just to squeeze money out of the former adult fans, that will just seal the deal for me. Sadly, I think I’ve graduated from Rainbow High if this is the permanent direction.
I know when I was a little kid, this slime gimmick would NOT be my cup of tea. If I loved the doll, I might want it anyway. But I wouldn't want slime around my doll...like I would want my doll to be clean & pretty.
Parents would share this with you, too. Kid + slime = disaster
The way I see it is… pick up the old rainbow high fashion dolls before they’re gone and become a rarity in the future. 😂
On the upside, it will be much easier to catch up on the RH and SH dolls previously released. It’s been impossible to keep up with them as they just kept releasing new waves. Now, with the line going this way, I’ll eventually catch up! Not into the slime gimmicks. Will I buy the new dolls? A few, if only for the clothes.

Yes, exactly. Now that Rainbow High is a discontinued line in all but name, I can survey the whole thing and decide what to get.
I'm not mad that these were made & focused for kids. Like I get that. BUT...I so hope that they can ALSO make dolls for us. Why not ? Barbie does it. They make budget play line dolls & play sets. But they also make collectable grown up fashionable dolls for us adults. So...I will pray hard to the doll gods ! 🙏 😎

Mattel solved this issue by occasionally putting out G1-style Monster High dolls for adults - $50 a pop and up
A great idea would be for them to continue Shadow High and target that at adults while Rainbow High can be for kids.

I appreciate how you talk about these things from a meta/business perspective- it’s really important and missed often I feel like. I loved the past few series of Rainbow High, but I also felt like it was unsustainable. Those dolls were too high quality and too well priced to do well forever.
They may have started this way, but it didn't go well, and that was why they changed in my opinion. Many parents won't want their kids playing with slime because it's so messy; and regardless of what testing they did, they left out that lots of kids like beautiful clothes and being able to do more with their dolls. I think this rebrand is a very bad decision and this will probably break the brand. Just my opinion and all respect to those who don't agree with me. I'm done with RH unless they come out with some more collector type dolls :(
I'm sad about the direction they're going in but I'm just gonna have fun with the dolls I have and move on from buying RH. It was fun while it lasted but I have no more space for new ones anyways so rip ❤
Finally someone with common sense about the whole situation, especially when it comes to Poppy. The Community is so freaking delusional with creating RIP Images of her etc. Also I totally agree that this is the best Skylar we have had so far. Her hair and her face are perfection.
I have mixed feelings about the rebrands of Rainbow High and OMG Tweens/LOL, which is also being retooled for younger customers. Dolls were coming out so fast and there was so much pressure to buy what you wanted as soon as it appeared, esp given supply-chain issues and dolls sometimes disappearing from stores without warning (I hated buying them online and not being able to check the faces first). It was sucking the fun out of the hobby. Now that the golden age is coming to an end, I have my collection and know it's probably not going to grow anymore. I can just enjoy what I have. But it is sad that two such amazing doll lines, that were so detailed and high-quality, couldn't keep it up.
As an adult collector I really wish there were more lines of dolls specifically for collectors. Not the occasional collectors edition dolls (that are usually pretty pricy), but full doll lines specifically made with collectors in mind. I love collecting pretty dolls to display and pose and dress up, but most dolls for children are not the quality nor style Im looking for, which is why I love rainbow high. I just want more affordable dolls that are made FOR collectors.
What you described is exactly what the "Barbie Basics" line was, and what the "Barbie Looks" line is right now.
They need to not call these "fashion " dolls anymore then. Cause fashion is NOT the main focus. It was. It literally was almost every dolls focus. These may as well be baby dolls.😂

I know kids and adults who both LOVED how they were. Also loved the show including myself. To exclude half the audience and half the consumers is insane. As an adult rainbow high collector and toy collector in general, I loved poopsie I hated the slime but loved the figures. I just don’t like messy throw away gimmicks. I threw slime at the ceiling as a kid behind my mom’s back and ruined the ceiling and she yelled at me. I never was allowed to have it again. Even as a pre teen. my mom wouldn’t have bought anything with slime so this would have been a product my mom would have told me NO. Not buying that. There is so many other sensory toys that aren’t waist full or messy that they could add? I can see this turning people off as poopsie did to begin with. Most people hated Poopsie. Lol
Not to mention you can buy nice, washable slime from places like Michael's for like $7, why on Earth would any parent spend $26 on unnecessary dolls and plastic, immobile "pets" if slime is the main gimmick?!

Ok, just to say, I'm not trying to be rude to you at all. But I feel like you not being allowed to have slime is just a you/your family problem. Also the slime part of these new dolls is completely optional(I think). But I agree, there is definitely better ways to add stuff for a less messy and more fun playability(ok now i'm just making up words). I also don't know why they went back to poopsie seeing as literally nobody asked for the reboot. If it was a money issue then maybe don't release the dolls as often so collectors would be able to buy them more.(there are other alternatives as well, but maybe taking feedback from their consumers would be a good start)
@@TabbysDolls that’s nice if it was just a “me” problem but other people have also been talking about their experience if u have been reading other comments and opinions on these dolls. Quite a bit of fans have been also voicing these same experiences with slime and not being able to have it as kids. It’s messy especially not being already pre made, waistful cause u use it a couple times and it’s gross and goes in the garbage. To say I’m the only kid in the world not allowed to have slime seems kinda out of touch. Calling it only my problem, go read some more comments then.
@@TabbysDollsyeeaahh this slime issue is not an isolated one... happened to me as a little one too and slime got forever banned in the house. Not because my parents were evil about it but because i was extremely immature about it and it stuck and stained literally everywhere. Its safe to say that pretty much every kid would be just as equally irresponsible with slime too. Thankfully now that im an adult, i get to enjoy slime while still being mature enough to know how to not get it on the walls, ceiling, and furniture. Today i got a crunchy pink slime that smells like candy! I wash my hands before handling so that i trap as little dirt in it as possible, i take the slime out of the jar, and i squeeze, stretch, pop, and crunch it in my hands for complete sensory bliss... i noticed a few minutes ago after playing that it seems to start to lose its starchiness when it gets warm in my hands (this is how even good quality slimes will end up sticking to things instead of itself...like my skin, for example) so i just put it away. Tbh giving slimes to little kids, as amazing and fun and stimulating as it can be, will often be a disaster waiting to happen. I wouldnt have even trusted myself as a teen with this stuff...so i absolutely share the sentiment of parents not wanting their kids to own slime.

Unpopular adult collector opinion…I think these are freakin’ FUN! Some parents hate slime, but I think it’s a blast. The kids will love these! ❤
I really love the shoes, but I would store OTHER little NON WET OR SLIMY trinkets inside the shoes to change their look. The slime feels like a recipe for growing mold. This is coming from someone who loves fidget putty, but fidget putty and dolls do not mix!
My personal theory on Poppy’s disappearance, based mostly on rumors going around the community - I saw a rumor that the doll company Poppy Parker threatened legal action, and that makes so much sense to me. With Poppy, it’s not just the fact that she’s been discontinued going forward, but it seems like all her dolls currently available have suddenly been pulled from shelves. I know there was a rumor that WalMart employees were pulling her dolls from shelves and throwing them away, which would only make sense if they were no longer able to distribute them at all. I’m gutted because I hadn’t bought her runway doll yet. I definitely could be wrong but with the way she’s become totally unavailable, this theory really makes sense.
Thank you for the perspective on the history of Rainbow High. I have one of the original dolls. I call her Big Blue and she's the reason I was so excited for the line when they went in a more fashion direct. I don't know yet that I'll buy any of the new line, but they are really pretty and you're correct, if the last couple of years of Rainbow High hadn't happened, I'd have no complaints at all about the new line and be in love with them. Also, glad to see you making videos again. Sorry to hear about your mom. Keep taking care of you.
As an adult doll collector? NO SLIME.
As a parent who buys dolls for my children? NO SLIME.
I'm an adult collector too, but I'm not always fashion focused so I still find the dolls cute, although I think their price point will have to go lower due to the more simplistic dolls.
I feel like slime is an outdated trend?? I guess I have no way of knowing what kids were saying in focus groups though
Never cared much for Rainbow High with the giant eyeballs and noggins. The only Rainbow High I've bought were thrift store finds and I just kept the clothes for my Barbies!
And the glitter and slime can just go away.
Bad focusing here. Probably would have been a better route to have made a new line of dolls on this order (minus the glitter faces and slime) and continued the adult collector line as it was or even on a slightly more limited release basis. Once you elevate the quality of a product brand and suddenly cheapen it you are asking for trouble.

I am intensely disappointed with the RH Rebrand. Shadow High is my comfort doll line, and the Storm Twins are my comfort characters, and despite not normally being a completionist, I have a complete SH collection with 36 SH dolls including 3 sets of Storm Twins and a custom doll car that I made of the Storm Twins' Jeep. I also have 20 RH dolls. I loved SH/RH the way that they were.
This Rebrand has been so heartbreaking for me and has literally made me a bit depressed. I intensely dislike the Rebrand so much that I will be filling in the gaps of my current RH collection and buying SH duplicates rather than supporting the Rebrand dolls. I also hate that Amaya is in RH Series 6 instead of Poppy. And I heard that Poppy isn't officially canceled, so I'm sure that she'll probably get dolls in future lines.🖤💜

I almost collected Rainbow high for their fashions and gorgeous faces but then decided not to go down that rabbit hole. It is sad for collectors that this is all changing. I agree with a lot of you that the slime is a no and most parents will hate it because of the mess. I wish them luck. The new dolls on their own are cute and I actually like their larger size. I hope they will release some fashions for them that are decent. 🙏🤗
I check poppy everyday. I literally had family and friends check My ENTIRE STATE
NOBODY HAS HER. She ain't in this state. Period.

It wasn't because of cuteness. I saved every last shard, spent my allowances, on them. On rainbow high. Because I loved who they were, and who I could make them.
The slime toys are cute. Monster high is cute. So is LOL OMG. But if I'm not collecting rainbow high, do I really need to care?
All we needed were wrists and thighs. Could pretend the reboot never happened, use them the same. But I'm not getting something that you can't bring to life. And I don't see anything to replace it with.

Excellent video on the history of RH dolls too! Also never understood the appeal of slime. Didn't even like it when I was a kid when it was briefly a thing in the early 90's. Might be a sensory kind of thing. Edit: Don't like glitter either. Makes the doll/toy look cheaper.

For years I’ve enjoyed collecting rainbow high and I’ve always been excited for each anticipated release. However, it feels like rainbow high took a hard turn south in recent times and even worse with this reboot. ITS saddening but what’s even more sad is that one of my favorite characters, Poppy is missing 😭

Your reaction to touching the slime I felt in my soul. Slime looks cool (I'll go down a rabbit hole of watching those slime mixing videos) but I hate the feel of them.
I’m not thrilled with them, but I’m not angry about it either. It’s always gonna come down to the bottom dollar with these companies and there’s no way around that. My biggest complaint is that awful face glitter, but I do LOVE the junior high pajama party dolls which have no glitter on them. I have never been into a tween or junior high spin-off but it may be time for me to go in that direction and just discover some new obsessions. 😂😂

can’t help but to hate them. we complained about tinsel and they brought back tinsel, we complained glittery faces and they brought back glittery faces. and REMOVING articulation is not the way to go. (not even mentioning the fact that they r just ugly)
Yeah..it feels like a big purposeful f***u to adult collectors. But that's fine because I won't buy them anymore and I hope no other adult collectors buy them either.
Thanks for this great video, I did not know the history of rainbow high. It makes sense to me why they are going back to where it started. I will continue to love and appreciate the RH and SH dolls I have in my adult collection. My wallet, THANKS MGA, for calming my addiction. I can save money in 2024 instead of splurging on dolls!!!!
I kind of really like them. The base dolls are cute and I am sad about the wrist joint being gone and some of the outfits BUT I actually love Amaya and Sunny. I love their faces and makeup

I'm slowly starting to like rainbow high. Initially I hated the dolls with a passion because they seemed to replace monster high dolls on shelves of every major retailer, but now after seeing so many cute designs and variants, I'm slowly leaning towards starting to collect them. I know its inevitable but I'll eventually get there in collecting them
I like this review a lot it was very fair and added a lot of context I had no idea about... As someone that buys the family dollar rainbow high which doesn't even have elbow or knee articulated I think these are still really cool and ultimately it's not an adult that's the target audience so it's nice for the kids to get things they want... But that glitter is gonna be a big problem... They should try charms or like the bigger Boba things next time easier to clean
Thank you for the review. It’s kinda depressing how this is happening-but I understand that it’s for the kids. It has been wonderful 3 years of collecting. I have completed these original 14” Rainbow Poopsie doll in my collection. Maybe I will buy the Rainbow World as fanfare to end my collection, but not too sure. Maybe there will be a way I can be creative to customize them… using glitter to be mixed with the glue to paint the bags, shoes and the figurines inside (not outside) ..I think it will be more fun to do than using the slime. Just a thought. Since there was last three white dolls to color the clothes or their hair…I think painting them with glue to be mixed with glitter can be cool idea. 😍😍

I think MGA ran out of ideas and said let's just bring rainbow poopsie surprise back. The slime doesn't belong with a fashion doll. I'm getting flashbacks to the slime clothing from the poopsie surprise dolls that rainbow high branched from.
Are they still called rainbow high or are they called rainbow world now? Just seems that the box said “rainbow world” but I’m not sure if it says rainbow high somewhere too?
We didn't need a soft reboot to get a skylar or violet that was likeable.
No slime in my house. I wish the fashions were interchangeable. My daughter has wanted the closet and the Jet with the dress , the dress form and sewing machine but every time they would sell out fast. The clothes don't fit the dolls except the Jounior high Ruby.
For her birthday next week I saved a Jet doll I got new in box from a collector and the new doll with the fabric, work table.
Your opinion about these dolls is pretty much exactly what I was thinking. I’m glad the clothing and hair still seem to be of good quality, but I really wish they did not come with slime!
After watching this video last night, i saw all these new RH dolls at my local Target today. They're cute in person but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to get them. Not into slime or the limited articulations.
Also I watched the other you mentioned in this video, gave me a bit of a chuckle..🤪🤪🤪
I’m so upset. If they’re getting rid of wrist articulation than I’m sadly not going to collect them anymore. I’m also very anti-slime (autistic, it makes me very upset). It’s a shame because I loved rainbow high.
Thank you for tjis .A lot of the children I volunteer with at church have touch sensitivity because they are 9n the autism spectrum or other reasons .Touch sensitivity had to be respected whetherba child or adult has it .Liking glitter and slime or detesting it is okay .

I hate slime! Every toy is slime anymore I think these dolls are beautiful as the others but pretty much the same they all got long sticky hair Skyler is always my favorite but I don't understand why they can't style these dolls hair and make them shorter cuts or layers my favorite is their big colorful glass eyes which are so real looking and I hope that never changes cause in the beginning the big dolls only had painted eyes thank you!

Also, yeah, I think I'd probably just not to the slime, I feel the same about that. I used to love the poopsie creatures but washing out the slime from inside them was a nightmare 🤬❤️❤️❤️
I agree she is very cute! To tell you the truth my granddaughter is 10 and she likes the Jr ones best. I like the younger dolls too.❤
Seeing these as a continuation of the original Rainbow Surprise line instead of the amazing rainbow high we know and love really makes it easier to accept the changes, thanks for sharing that perspective!

Ive never been super into slime but i did always like the concept of the origonal poopsie surprize dolls.
Poppy Rowan is my favorite and I collect all the orange themed RH dolls. These newer ones feel more appropriate for my daughter though, who is in the target age group you mentioned of elementary school kids. It feels more playable, which I think is the point. This rebrand honestly doesn’t bother me. I like it, too!

Poppy IS definitely NOT gone. I was wondering why some people are so making a HUGE deal out of her disappearance and just vent their frustrations over Amaya. So if Poppy disappears and Bella, or Krystal or any other characters subbed for her. Surely they will spread the hatred on whoever will replace her for this line. We are actually hoping that there were A LOT of characters in this line and MGA could just randomize any 6 of them and put a new line. But since SOME PEOPLE are soooooo~ Ican'tevensaytheirstateofmindsanymoreyoudecide. As they wanted OG Girls to appears as they were for all eternity. (Don't get me wrong, I love Rainbow High and I love the characters).
Hope we can have a more open minded on accepting changes on things, as we have to understand that "Things Change". At some point, I have the same opinion as you that these were not the Fashion Dolls a Collector can collect anymore. But still looks forward on collecting by getting their outfits, I DO love Skyler like totally!, I like Amaya the best for this line. Hope we can refrain ourselves from spreading too much hate on her, move on and collect or not collect dolls we don't like.

My cousins are low middle school but they loved RH and their friends. Now they just say the new ones are for stupid babies ajsjshsj So I was confused if it was for kids, but ig its for a lower age than I thought.

I have one hand with dimples because i have a disability called hemiparesis: weakness or the inability to move on one side of the body, making it hard to perform everyday activities like eating or dressing. One-sided weakness in your arms, hands, face, chest, legs or feet can cause: Loss of balance... so because of that my leg and hand are smaller in size so i have dimples on that hand even i am 37 yo... they started to disapear but i dont mind... it was just a fun fact. I dont mind dimples on humans but on dolls i think they are weird... lol
It’s the slime part that turns me off and loss of wrists. Poor Amya they love her so much but can’t get her right. Yes if the want glitter on the skin then they need less and more of a glow less glitter everywhere explosion. I’m glad though that they kept the stand. The pets and crystals are fine and don’t bother me… I will miss the accessories and the storytelling opportunities that they gave. I’m happy to stick with MonsterHigh
Mga stopped selling the bag accessories for rainbow high because Gucci was threatening to sue, maybe they had to stop taking inspo from high fashion for that same reason?

The dolls are beautiful,the pets are cute,the bag is a bag,the shoes are cool and theirs slime and glitter. Rainbow High is were I started collocting Fashion doll's. I watched a few of the webisodes of the original series. Rainbow High isn't the only doll line that's going back to their roots American Girl is focusing one historical doll's again.
I won't get into all my mixed thoughts on this new release of dolls, but I will say they appeal to my inner child so I might get some
It’s weird to me that they jumped from bare minimum, to AMAZING and back to bare minimum. I think the rebrand should’ve been the middle stage. Not the stage we’re dealing with now
It often feels like these companies need to learn to strike a balance between what the kids want and what the parents will put up with.

I got Sunny but im sad cause is the "International edition" cause i wanted the plastic container to make the slime at least the glitter isnt chunky
instead of rebrand like this into the slime line, they should re-produce series 1, make them better with better clothing
it makes me sad but my wallet is very happy. no reason to buy them now. so tired of core dolls; how many Sunnys, etc. do we need? would love to see new characters/skin tones/body types.
Too many you really only need one, the twin pack one. The other Sunny's don't compare.
Maybe Poppy will be the special collector one?
