I feel a lot of breakers aren't in it for the love of it they want the 1/1 or whoever is hot in the sporting world currently
Was just going post something similar. It's not like it's hard to find product. Why anyone would pay anyone else to open cards for them in 2024 is silly. Open your own stuff or buy the singles you're trying to "pull" thru these breaks. I'm guessing for every 1 you make out ok on you lose enough on the others to just buy the damn card

The parallels keep things interesting for me. I don’t want to go back in time to when all you could reasonably expect to get is base, base, and just base.
I would like to add that I feel a lot of breakers have their friends in the chat bidding up spots or buying them out completely hoping some sucker will outbid them. Breakers are used car salesman that sell you something for 10x what it’s worth
It doesn't matter, there the same as a reseller all in it for profit and really don't care about the hobby. Now all of them aren't like that and I'm not saying it that way. But some breakers ruin it for some people and it puts a bad taste in your mouth towards breakers.
It really is. Think about it, breakers place in the market initially was access to hobby at a lower point of entry. Since the value/ inflation has gotten arguably 4 times worse and most of their margins on top of that for single teams are sick. I’ve completely reserved myself to singles.

If I had chased other rookies, I probably wouldn't have been so lucky. Today...prices are more than the cards you could possibly get. It isn't even close to gambling now, because I would bet that 1 in 1,000 teams breaks even.
I used to break exclusively with them back in 2015/16. They used to do hundreds of cases on release days and over the years it's gone down to maybe dozens, or even less. It's an oversaturated market now.
Can't we just get back to like Topps, Fleer, UpperDeck, packs at the grocery checkout, local comic book store or card shop, grab a few packs as a kid or adult wtvr, pay a normal price, go home rip em and maybe you get something cool or your favorite player, and you're happy 😮 and sure if you get some CRAZY rare card grade it keep it flip it up to you... and that's kinda it 💯🤘But also NOT print 100 bazillion copies of everything....that would be AWESOME to me 👌🔥
Never front … not even to your best friend…. Not even to a customer who keeps coming back to purchase…. A honest loyal man that asks for help , only needs to get fronted one time. If he comes back with more money then you expected him to make and wants to purchases more off you then maybe “MAYBE” front him a couple more boxes to flip and then STOP. Fanatics Fest should work on managing the amount of celebrities they had last event. A lot of people paid for photo ops and they didn’t get them due to poor management. Doubling the amount of guests could be a disaster.

I suspect he re-cellophanes product too. I watched them cut the wrap and the seal on some NT product. The seal looks already cut, just hard to see through the cellophane. He's been caught skimming already. I wouldn't doubt that opens and repacks product. When was the last time you saw a HUGE hit from them, never!! I used to Break with them, they were good at the start but when i had to start messaging (Multiple Times)them that my cards had not been shipped for months at a time and they would tell me that they forgot to ship. After that i stopped Breaking with them.

Are retail cards reject from the hobby version?, most of my card purchases are retail, and most of these cards are all over the place, some too low some too high some not even close to being centred, worst of all you do get a lot of bent tips,

I've never understood buying into breaks.. people say it's because they can't afford to buy boxes, but yet they over pay for packs and get into a lot of breaks lol. Second why would you want to watch someone else open your packs??? That makes no sense at all. 3rd if you are going to buy into breaks just have them send you the packs to open yourself.
In Platinum's case I think it's a mixture of their antics catching up to them and bigger breakers entering the market. Years ago Platinum was one of the only, if not THE only, breakers opening high-end. Industries change and companies come and go.
I’m not sure if it’s the most significant from a $$ standpoint. $500-$1k would hurt the average consumer a lot more than $1m hurts blowout cards. I’m not saying blowout is a billion $$ company but if you can extend $1m credit to 1 customer you will make it!!
I joined a break last night for some Bowman Debut and was having a good time until they changed breakers. The guy that came on had a horrible attitude (having bad day probably) but just took the mood from a 50 to a 1. Getting angry with the chat because spots were selling for $30-40 a spin (2 jumbo draft boxes). Telling the chat they need to be over $60+ a team and at one point stopped the $1 bidding in middle of the spins to $60 min bid. Like wtf. Think his name was Tizzy on Ontopps Breaks. All the guys there are so nice but this guy was a jerk. First off, $60+ a team x30 teams is $1800/2 $900 a box? The greed is real both from breakers and the product itself. It’s a rich man’s hobby now
Breaking is about all I can afford to do anymore besides buying singles; and I’m not poor by any stretch. Stuff like s1-update, Hoops, Donruss, Elite, etc i Can do but it’s almost not worth it the way I collect. I collect PC teams/players, I don’t sell/trade. Boxes got nuts, cheaper to break, Fanatics got what they wanted. But the guy at Platinum is one of never give a dime too, seems like a POS
It only takes a few breakers to give breaking a bad name. Then all of a sudden breakers are blamed for everything. I break for fun and hardly make anything ... I don't drive box prices up as I get boxes at the same price as everyone else. I cant even imagine a company letting another company run up 1Million in debt. In the end there are plenty of good breakers out there just need to find one :) or just not break 👍
I’m not a fan of “Let’s Go!” social media breakers in general, it’s not at all as bad a those repackaging mystery box “pass the trash” sellers, but the way many of the breakers present themselves seems kind of sleazy or douchey. I bought into a few breaks from eBay sellers who sold spots by player names both a direct buy by name as well as the randomizer assignment without problems, as they broadcast the break… but it felt kinda uninspired for my tastes. Oddly, some of these sellers charge shipping up front when no players get pulled and nothing is sent.
I have to agree with T-Pot I don't like it just the look makes the card look cheap. Keep up the great work T-Pot big fan. Help me out a lot since I'm a beginner in collecting cards.

Breakers are the main cause wax prices are still too high compared to singles. It's not fair that I have 2 lcs that get a small amount of total product compared to an a** hat like the one at platinum. Stop buying in breaks and let them eat that money. They don't want to hold onto it at all. There is no reason for the cost of this hobby for new cards except that there are more people who don't know what they are doing or that are too lazy to buy stuff themselves. We keep empowering breakers and they now control the industry.
Second hand card market is so volatile i stopped collecting cards for the following reasons. - kurts card cleaner who knows how many second hand cards are out there with this stuff on them - ct scanning sealed products alot of people forget this is a thing now and it is definitely getting used in the secondhand market - Beckett scandal putting a bad stamp on grading. - card collecting has shifted to more a slot machine in a foil pack. - no value for many anymore unless its a chase. - breakers constantly stealing and scamming people - fakes are getting better and better everyday - scalpers msrp is a thing of the past for card collecting
I have never opened a box of cards in my life. Only buy singles from the flea market in my area and Ebay. Would be cool to win a box in the giveaway soon! Good luck everyone.
Who cares. Lose a million is nothing. Based on my conservative estimations these "distributors" each made well $100-150mil+ in extra revenue by withholding allocated inventory from legitimate retail stores and selling to these box breaker and secondary market platforms at speculated market value prices. This all started in around 2018.

Not even a breaker, but 10X what it's worth is a HUGE stretch. They often go 0.5-1.5X the cost of the box. Where did you do your math?

Who cares. Lose a million is nothing. Based on my conservative estimations these "distributors" each made well $100-150mil+ in extra revenue by withholding allocated inventory from legitimate retail stores and selling to these box breaker and secondary market platforms at speculated market value prices. This all started in around 2018.
blowout is a major part of the problem as well.......no sympathy for them
