save the remaining hay for next hay season and just feed it up first...we consider it a blessing to have hay left in the barn after hay season is over and the cows are back on pasture.
Haha, many years ago I had an old horse and that had been worked hard and not fed well before I got him. He used to love thistles! As a teenager I let him stop and eat. He'd peel his lips back and pull that purple thistle off and devour it. He was so cute. I've never seen other horses eat them though🤣
Who ever thought that the cows would have eaten toast thistles? I am just curious how the little bull fitting in? I can't wait to see the bailer running again! I love the vid and looking forward to more!
Hi to Farmer Tyler Ranch and all others too. Great of showing others how you get work and things together for your animals and farm. Happy Monday everyone i hope you enjoy and stay safe. It do look like a load of work. 😄😄prayers for you all
Make sure to replace the belt lacing pins on your baler. Especially the outside belts as they take the most abuse. Much cheaper to replace them once a season versus tearing a belt or belts up. Looking forward to see how many bales you end up with from that triticale.
Yes, it will take a while to get rid of those big thistles. They store in the roots so you need to get that used up. Be glad you do not have bracken. It takes about 3 years to clear that stuff!
Interesting about the Thistles, hope you do one more update. I wouldn't have thought the cows woukd eat them burned, but it makes sense, the charcoal would sooth any indigestion from the fresh grass.
That bolt, washer and nut… If you use Grade 8 lock washers and flat washers and even the bolt & nut, you will have much less problems with them vibrating loose. You can also use Blue Lock Tite.
We have ALWAYS HAD AMAZING LUCK with the 5 gallon bucket with a splash of oil or antifreeze in the bottom. A ramp with a pop bottle with a wire through it and peanut butter on the bottle. That trap always seems to work the best and doesn't need to be reset. Hope that helps.
cool the cows like bbq'd food lol maybe in time the cows will get it gone , but chemicals would have been worse if the cows ate them have a great week hugsssss
This yr I went thru 54 round bales at 1200 lbs each. Bad year here in NC Florida for livestock. Been Bipolar in our state fir weather! Good luck on your end Tyler
I have some briar bushes growing up in the pasture. Been debating on haw to deal with them. Burner looks like it might work. I just wonder if the seeds burned up so the cows aren’t spreading the seeds around in the manure.
Interesting about the BBQ'ed Thistle. What they will eat never cease to amaze me..LOL Was going to say the barn did look a bit empty....Not a good feeling cutting it that close huh...LOL Good update FTR!
I wonder....If they eat the seed heads....poop them into the fields.....are the cattle now super spreaders???? I know birds do that by eating seeds and spreading some to the base of, say, Oak Trees. We bag Star Thistle and send them to the landfill (garbage). Your volume of videos are up brother, but still got the great content.
My what “cultured” pallets your cows have; wanted fire roasted thistle as an appetizer!! I guess it is like star thistle, our cows wouldn’t eat it until after a rain. Will the triticale need the same amount of dew on it prior to baling? Great video, good luck on finding the new calf.
Quesion: so you still have a couple cows waiting to calf still? will these two be able to get pregnant when u release the bull in a month? Thanks for answering what are probly silly questions!😊
Another cliff hanger! Is the little calf female or male, and how many bales will you get this year? Will you bale some as square bales or will it all be rounds?
Good Morning. Would not the cows eating the crispy thistles cause the spread even more? Or does their stomach acid kill the seeds. I usually cut mine off at the bottom of the stock and then add a small amount of gasoline or diesel, but then I have no animals grazing on my bottom forty. :) also the gasolene evaporates pretty fast at this time of year so field damage is kept to a minimum
You should check Shawn wood. He is an expert with idea’s on getting rid of rodents and not endanger animals that might eat poisonous dead rodents. I love your channel!
T, time to trim the beard......... PLEASE. can't see your handsome face. Looking forward to seeing the new calf and watch you bale hay. I enjoy your videos, and be creative when you're welding.
"Apparently there's going to be a bit more to this" was priceless. Isn't it always. Love your videos!
Whenever I start fixing things up that kids song "There's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza dear Liza" starts running through my mind.
Your big guy is a good looking bull!
Imagine that! Cows love "burnt ends" Great BBQ.
Wow! I wouldn't have thought that the cows would eat burnt thistles...at least those aren't going to go to seed anytime soon.
save the remaining hay for next hay season and just feed it up first...we consider it a blessing to have hay left in the barn after hay season is over and the cows are back on pasture.
That is one fine looking bull.

You'd be surprised how many horses like to pluck the flower off the thistle.
Always something to do on the homestead. Never a boring day. Lol
It’s always something, A farmers work is never finished'

Enjoyed the video! Have a great day!
So glad that you are now able to post more often🤗🥰
Glad the cows like the burnt thistle. Try 30 % vinegar, to stop the regrowth. There are some brands of 30% vinegar that are sold for week killers.
Great day on the ranch. Hoped to see the new calf at the end.
Have a great evening.

That’s what I did today serviced my big square baler and my round baler for the hay season
Burnt thistle…an enticing and savory treat for a cow…who would of thought that?!🤔😂 I certainly wouldn’t have.
Cows are in nice shape. 👍
Back in Texas we used to burn off the cactus needles and the cows would eat the cactus. I've eaten cactus with scrambled eggs really good.
Thank you Tyler

A leaf blower cordless works great for blowing out equipment
Will you bring a hereford bull for breeding this year
Great video you should get yourself a cordless grease gun they work great with all the greasing you have to do on a farm keep them videos coming
You kinda put the cart before the horse on the hay thing? 🤔
I use a back pack blower to blow off the balers seems to do the job

It is great that you are doing what you love!
Always something to repair
Good video
Had to laugh about the cows eatin the burnt thistles , nothin wrong with a little roughage 😋

Roasted seeds are usually not viable.
Interesting about the BBQ'ed Thistle. What they will eat never cease to amaze me..LOL Was going to say the barn did look a bit empty....Not a good feeling cutting it that close huh...LOL Good update FTR!
If you cut down to ground level and put salt on them will kill them to the roots
Is there any way that You could put Baler under a Roof, its very expensive equipment to be outside all the time
Great video farmer tyler ranch what day will you bale it I hope you get a lot more round bales this. Year
You burned off the thistle spikes, making them palatable. Works with prickly pear, too.
Great video. 🚜🚜👍👍👍🌿💚🌿👍👍👍🚜🚜
If the seeds go undamaged and clean through the cows, can they actually spread it through the rest of the pasture?
Yep

I never thought cows would eat thistles!

I love your videos and Mrs. FTR is a lucky woman to have such an amazing sexy man.
Poison might hurt your kitty if she eats a dead rodent.
T, time to trim the beard......... PLEASE. can't see your handsome face. Looking forward to seeing the new calf and watch you bale hay. I enjoy your videos, and be creative when you're welding.
So if you just burn the base, would the rest of the plant not die as a result?
I'm working on my hay bine I just bought. Opening a can of worms 🪱 😬. How's that new baler run
