Arrogate has been in the biggest races in the world and won almost all of them. Alot of shipping and coming from dead dead last and fly by gun runner in the Dubai I think just took a toll on em even tho we got spoiled w his greatness he still ran a great race today! Collected is the real deal.

In an interview on TVG Martin Garcia was asked how Collected had been training leading up to the Pacific Classic and he wryly smiled and replied Baffert may not want to run Arrogate against Collected he was training so well. Martin Garcia also trained Arrogate for Baffert. I had the exacta and trifecta.
I believe the Dubai performance may have wrecked Arrogate to some degree, I have seen it happen before here in Oz to a horse called the big O..he was a champion 3 year old who they over raced 1 too many times and flattened him , he failed to come back as a 4 year old in the first half of the season, however he did eventually gain some of his old form back to win a few more group 1's but was never quite the same horse.
Had collected 2 races ago and again today because he is in his prime and arrogate is a historic horse but just past his peak. Wish I could see these 2 at both their peaks
Everyone kept saying that Dubai ruined Arrogate. But honestly the clearest answer to his bad runs was HE SIMPLY DID NOT LIKE DEL MAR. Look at his strides, he was fighting himself just to keep a gallop. He never raced elsewhere in 2017 (besides Dubai) so we of course this wasn’t proven but to me that will always be it and even Baffert mentioned it. Either way, RIP big guy!
Arrogate only lost by a Neck and closed really well in the late stretch run. I think he might have a chance at winning another Big race before he retires.

Mike smith with the 1989 Breeders cup classic Pat Day ride, first hesitates to go all out with Arrogate on the lead( this track is a smaller track...soo u want to set the pace😉) then goes 3 -4 wide entire race, lets Accelarate and Collected give him the slip midway down the backstretch ( gave 2-3 lengths, fell asleep a la Day on Easy Goer) and then asks Arrogate to make up that lost ground while undecided whether to go inside or outside of Accelarate...then turns the after burners and ends up half a length short on that super short stretch of Delmar... IMO ..Arrogate has no control of how he is controlled...btw he ran 65 feet more than Collected according to Trakus.....DUH
I still see this is a prep race. He had just gotten back from his smash victory in Dubai and still needed another race as he points to the Breeder's Cup. Why overexert him if his stable mate is blazing away on the front end?
Jockey Martin Garcia trained both horses for Baffert and he knew going in that Collected could win this race. Convinced me to bet a Collected over Arrogate exacta. Arrogate doesn't seem to like the Del Mar racing surface.
Often in horse racing, the best horse does not win. This has been painfully obvious to my wallet throughout my twenty-six years of very non-professional handicapping. I normally don’t get involved with all this hoopla, but am inclined to comment on the most awesome horse, in my opinion, of my non-professional horse playing career. It is quite obvious that Arrogate’s race was severely impeded by an exhausted Accelerate. Accelerate went wide at the top of the stretch. Mike went inside but Accelerate came back in, causing Arrogate to break stride, and Mike had to wait to go outside of Accelerate. Mike was getting him back into stride when Accelerate came out on Arrogate breaking his stride again. Once Mike finally got Arrogate past Accelerate after the eighth pole, and back into stride, a tiring Collected veered out. When Mike got Arrogate moving in that great stride of his, straight and true, and using the right hand a split-second late, the best horse in the race came in a split-second short. The last thing that Mike Smith wants to happen, is an injury to Arrogate. He is worth way more in the shed.
This reminds me of when Lost in the Fog was dominating the sprinting division and then tailed off. They better get him in for an extensive physical. He is struggling to run down horses he should be clobbering. The track should have held a lot faster time. 9 months ago he was disposing of the best horse in the world (California Chrome) like child's play running much faster. In the pre-race he seemed to want nothing to do with his tack and was uncomfortable from the time the gate opened. Some horses just get tired of the game.
Arrogate has ran 3 times at Del Mar any clearly does not run his best on that strip so too bad for him the BCC is at Del Mar this year. There will be much more speed in the classic with Gun Runner and Connected dueling with other speed types so if he can take 1 more step forward he could still win the classic and this time he will be 5-2. Bettors are unforgiving!
If Arrogate is 5-2, Collected should be 2-1 and Gun Runner should be 4-1. Bettors should be unforgiving; their job is to win money, not to give it away. Well, a long time between now and then and Arrogate may have one last run in him. I think he hits the board (but fails to win), and his legacy will be more similar to a horse like Silver Charm as opposed to a horse like Ghostzapper.
If Frankel is the best ever we have lowered the bar. Frankel couldn't even warm up Spectacular Bid. How many race, track and distance records does Frankel have again? Please remind me?Crickets.....
Frankel did the same thing Rachael Alexandra did. Ran in the same area code and beat the same guys over and over running less than impressive times. " The best ever" took it to the competition. Dr. Fager ran against some of the best horses we've ever seen...and set track and world records. Spectacular Bid faced Flying Paster under greater weights and still set world records. Even the great South American Invasor faced the fabulous Bernardini and showed that greatness prevails over really good. Frankel could have went after a couple of horses...a few names come to mind. But he didn't. The great Secretariat beat everyone on dirt the did the unheard of and switched to grass to beat everyone on the green just so there were no questions. That is what greatness does. Have we forgotten? We are so desperate to recrown a new king we forget why those old guys are legends.
Though I agree Frankel was great, he was never risked in the Epsom Derby because there was a question mark about his stamina limitations. Why do people (as you've done here) compare dirt horses with turf horses, not many top horses cross over with a few exceptions like California Chrome. And if you compare Frankel with Winx, you would have to take in the fact that she doesn't care about what the distance is. My "best ever" would have to be the ill-fated Shergar or the great chaser Arkle who use to give his rivals stones in weight and still beat them, usually by many lengths.

He didn’t like Del Mar and it’s unfortunate that he never raced anywhere else but Del Mar that year. I’m so sure about that.

Accelerate wasn't too bad but clearly 10 furlongs is a furlong too far. We may see him in the Breeders Cup Mile.
