From the degenerative damage of his injury that sent him from San Diego to the Saints.. which began after his injury and trade. He played with it the entire time. He continually destroyed his arm and would use his arm as best he could, even in the end when he literally could not throw it past 15 yards. One of the best qbs to do it, with sub par teams.

    Okay, archers shooting at 20 yards, especially compound bow archers (like the one they keep showing) are capable of hitting the center 100% of the time. They also shoot at smaller targets at 20 yards. This target is a 70 meter target. There have been many compound bow shooters that have shot a perfect 300 round. (A 300 round is shooting 12 rounds of 5 arrows, (60 total shots) at 20 yards, where a perfect score would equal 300 points.)

    There are so many flaws with the ESPN test it is surprising it went on air without anyone noticing. 1a) As Joerg pointed out, the distances between the mats were different, both in the final test and in the test with the other footballer. 1b) The difference between 20 and 70 meters would be greatly exaggerated because of the affect of wind and any problems in the throw/shot 2) There were many Olympic archers tested, and only one athlete. 3) The athlete was allegedly at the very top of his profession, whereas there is a wide variety in skill level within Olympic athletes. 4) Even if the footballer had performed a fair test, since the skill levels are relative to each profession, it does not prove the accuracy of the weapon. 5) Similarly to the previous reason, it does not prove the accuracy because of many other factors with the athletes (such as wind speed, physical and mental preparation, distance etc). 6) In the video where they tested another athletes hit/miss ratio, they did not state his skill level, and the target he was shooting at was moving. If I were to suggest a better test for accuracy, the projectiles would be shot at the same distance with a machine indoors with equal tests on both sides, estimating > 100 tests for each to be able to conclude which one was more accurate.

      *****
      This was a BS test, but I think the NFL QB is more impressive than an Olympic Archer. The QB's throwing motion is more difficult than an archer's release (not as repeatable). He also has to read coverage, worry about being sacked, and hit a moving target.
      In contrast, the archer can rely on advanced equipment to aid in aiming and repeating a firing motion. They've even gone as far as adding rods to increase the moment of inertia of their bows to stabilize them, which is kind of cheap.
      The NFL style pure pocket passer is a rare combination of situational awareness, split second decision making, strength, and precision. Getting a very good pocket passer is difficult enough that many teams in the NCAA (and some in the NFL (e.g. 49ers and Eagles)) have switched to spread option football and dual threat QBs (less than perfect passers who can run fast and have good agility)... Sure, spread option football (also known as zone read football) offers very exciting running play, but the passing game often relies on relatively easy screen passes and isn't as reliant on the franchise QB.

      +tahtiyanna Rougeau it isnt lol compared to how far the archer is and have to hit the arrow inside the yellow. 12 inch NFL size football hitting a receiver from 60 yards, who has the ability to go and catch the ball vs. a 9.3 millimeter olympic size arrow hitting a target with 122 cm in diameter from 70 meters out.

    As a physics major, I don't pretend to know much about the mechanics of this. However... it's called precession, not wobble, and it does NOT provide any sort aerodynamic advantage whatsoever. What keeps the ball on target at 20 YARDS, (not 77, which should be the one being tested) is it's angular momentum/rotational kinetic energy, and it would do so even more efficiently in the absence of precession not in its presence. If you wish to argue otherwise please provide us with the fluid dynamics model where your claim holds true.

      @aekaralagonisi 9 років тому

      I haven't studied physics. Why should they test Brees at 70 yards? Olympic archers have sights, weights to keep the bow steady and after aiming the only motion the have to make is to let go of the arrow. Throwing the football freehand with such precision is extremely difficult, since the advantages that archers have don't apply to quarterbacks.

    • @drewpocernich2540
      @drewpocernich2540 3 роки тому

      I'm not sure if I'd say most accurate. This challenge would be a breeze for many of the best (Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, Peyton Manning, Bret Favre, Joe Montana, Dan Marino etc.). He's only like 15 yards away. You'll see guys like Deshaun Watson hit that bullseye from like 20-40 yards down field easily. Standing still, it is very easy for an all-pro (best of the professionals) to hit a bullseye like that. It only becomes hard when the QB is on the move. That's why the only quarterbacks that truly impress me are Patrick Mahomes, and Aaron Rodgers.
      Don't get me wrong, it's still impressive as hell for most QB's, but when you get to the truly greatest of all time, it becomes a world of freakish humans who not only have that finesse, but the knowledge of the throwing mechanics to perform the throws perfectly and the arm strength to go deep and still do it.

    Wel, yeah hes a good shot with ball, but hes throwing from about 20 yards. Olympic archers shoot at 77 yards. And they get almost perfect scores in comp. matchplay, so in practice, they will probably be getting them all in the ten if not the X. Also, from 20 yards, olympic archers could get a perfect score every time on a target 1/3 that size. Also, the ball is much bigger than an arrow, so if it looks like the ball hits the ten, the centre of it probably hits the nine. It would touch about three separate rings at the same time. An arrow cant do that. If this guy could hit a target like that in the ten every single time at 77 yards, id give it to him. But he cant.

    Does this mean that I'm more accurate than an Olympic archer in spiting at an archery target if I stand like 2 inches away? Archers shoot 77 yards away, drew was throwing 20 yards away, so I can spit at whatever range I want right? This is test is not scientific at all. This show needs to focus less on editing and loud Hollywood announcer guys and more on the actual science. And it's angular velocity, not spin rate, and it would be 62.8 rad/s, not 600RPM. Come on guys, if you're going to do a science show, assume your audience like science!

    If this is real and not staged (as in, they didn't just repeat different shots of one to four passes hitting the bullseye over 20 attempts) then Drew Brees is hands down *The GOAT* of football. That doesn't even seem possible no matter how close Drew was to the target. They show us that Drew hit all *10 OUT OF 10* throws on the bullseye.... That is absolutely, 110%, outrageously, crazy to think it'd even possible. I can't see any other Quarterback besides Brees ever hitting the center 10 times in a row unless they tried for hours upon hours. Drew said, "Tha shi wa cake, yo!" 🤫🤫

    Olympic archers shoot from 70m, but thats the standard for Archery. thats not the point. You cannot throw a ball past 50 yards on average so you cannot make that comparison. The comparison is doing 10 Consecutive attempts from comparable professional sports to measure accuracy. 10/10 bullseye is considerable accuracy. He is now the most accurate QB in NFL history with the most season completion percentage on average and number of seasons to be highest than anyone by far.

    A smaller arrow means it's EASIER to hit the bulls-eye, What Brees did is like hitting a spot 1/3 the size of the largest point on an arrow, But yes they are farther away. (The archers)
