The Yankees lost the 1922 world series to the Giants but came back in 1923 to beat the Giants, the Yankees lost to the Cards in 1942 but came back to beat the Cards in 1943, the Yankees lost to the Dodgers in 1955 but came back to beat the Dodgers in 1956.Oh yeah the Yankees appeared in 14 other worlds series between 1922 and 1956 and won them all! "as Mel Allen would say " how about that!"
Per Mel Allen's comment at the beginning of the 1962 highlights, this was the first of the World Series Highlight Films produced by MLB. They've done it every eyar since.
Yes, this was the first one! The highlight films started as a gift to all the troops overseas during WWII. I actually have a collection of all the highlights from 1943-2008!
@@justinmay3451 The DVD box set? Yeah, that was a cool gift idea. I like seeing the evolution of production techniques over the years in these films. From dubbed sound effects over silent film reels in the '40s, to the intro of video in the '80s, to the overlong interview-heavy epics of the 2000s....
Footage of commissioner Landis is so surreal. Wish we had a commissioner that cared for the game’s better interest now

This is so cool! Go Cards
only 15 American Leaguers went to war? While 155 National Leaguers went? Is that what this video said?

B-17 flyover around the 4:17 mark.
what was the format back then? 3-3-1?
Wartime format was 3-4 because of travel restrictions. Last WS like this was 1945 (Tigers Cubs) I believe.
oh I see

Mostly scrubs since most of the all star boys were overseas fighting the war.
