A bush began growing in my front yard and after 2 years of trimming it suddenly produced the fruit. Gift from heaven.

I remember when I was in 6th grade my bestfriend had a Japanese plum tree growing in his front yard and me and him loved these so much that he would bring 2 pockets full and give me one pocket full and I tried for years to find these in stores I was about 13 when I 1st tried these I am now 31 almost 32 and I couldn't ever find these in stores and when I mentioned these to people asking if they carried them all I would get is a confused look to the point I felt that this fruit never existed thank god i was able to find out i wasn't going crazy 😅😅😅

My uncle had a tree where I grew up in California, but I hadn´t ever seen them for sale there. I recently found some in an Arabic market downstairs from where I work in Southern Finland. Never thought I would see them in this country.
I may try growing the seeds! That is actually what led me to your channel, looking for tips.😆

Thank you sooooooo much for this video. This is probably THE best video I have seen on UA-cam on Loquats. I really enjoy how you have given so much information on the knowledge you have gleaned on these plants/fruits. I ultimately want to make Japanese Umeboshi with Japanese Plum and I think that Loquats are the fruit I need. Thank You!!!!! I live in Midland, TX. Do you think Loquats would grow well here?

No fair! No fair! lol Because of the February 2021 Texas freeze, loquats in my area didn't fruit in April 2022. It might take another year for the mature trees to recover OR they might never fruit again because of the hard impact. The trees look terrible right now (half of them have dead branches) but they're full of leaves.

You can ferment them and then make bread. Check out rain country for fermented bread.

      Aww! No fair! Lol
Our trees in Central Texas may not produce again because of the February 2021 freeze. The fruit is tiny and may not mature. But I’ve heard that trees in the southern part of the state are looking good. So I may have to travel to get some good loquats and/or replace my local trees. Hopefully, next year’s fruit will be better. 😊

I bought a loquate tree. Wanted standard plums, but I'm not mad that the nursery only had these trees.

I’m thinking of buying some from nurseries too! The loquat trees still look bad one year after the freeze. 😕

I have few of these trees in my back yard.
They seem to be at least 3 years old.
Unfortunately I have not seen any fruits yet!!
Is there anything I could do to help the trees to bear fruit?
    Thanks 😊

It may take them a few more years. My seed-started loquat flowered and attempted to fruit for the first time at around five years old. I planted it in the ground when it was three years old. But because of the Texas February 2021, my tree and other mature trees in my area have produced no fruit. So hopefully next year in 2023, it will have successful fruit.

When I was a child, I always ate the whole fruit. I do not remember eating a seed! Are there seeds in all Japanese plum varieties? Are the seeds poisonous?

What Austin Parks have Loquat trees?

    • @shamrockgirl804
      @shamrockgirl804  2 роки тому +1

I tend to go to the Southeast Greenway park in the Mueller area for loquats. Somewhere in south Austin has a road full of loquats, but I can’t remember where they were.

Last year, in Spring 2023, I went to a tropical fruit store in Houston, TX, and they had Gold Nugget loquats from Florida for sale. At the time, it was highly sought after because local loquats were still recovering from the February 2021 Texas freeze and barely had fruit. I deliberately went there to buy the fruit.
But you’re right. I’ve never seen loquats for sale in stores (other than that store in Houston that sells rare fruits, too). I’ve always eaten from local trees.
Now, in April 2024, loquat fruits are returning to the Austin area. I can finally harvest fruit from mine and local public trees! 😋
