except Quagmire barely owns up to the fact that he's awful... he shits on Brian for hitting on Lois when he's consistently done the same throughout the series, likely more times than Brian. Also, the dude is a sexual predator. You can't just casually spike women's drinks and hit on underage girls and then act like you're better than someone who is dishonest in relationships because hey, at least he owns up to it (which I actually haven't actually seen him do)
@@ravedeath7690 the show is so random and non canon that i believe it's the writers fault for that, it's hard to believe that glenn in this scene who appear to be logical and rational is the same idiot predatory glenn we knew in the other scenes
It's a cool detail, because Brian's question insinuates that Quagmire is being ridiculous for not liking Brian, which shows that Brian is so full of himself that he didn't even understand how anyone could dislike him, before Quagmire did his rant. He proved Quagmire's point right before Quagmire even dissected his personality flaws.
@@Mrpersonman0 They're not the same question. "Why don't you like me" would straightly ask the reason behind someone not liking you. It insinuates that the person asking just wants to know the specific reason why they're not liked by another person. "HOW could you not like me" also demands the specific reason for why a person isn't liked, however it addresses the manner of the person that's being asked, to question the other person's behavior and especially if their behavior is puzzling. Brian asked Quagmire how he could not like him, not just because he didn't understand his own flaws, but also because he genuinely didn't understand and did not like Quagmire personally disliking him. He addressed Quagmire as if his behavior was illogical or in the wrong because he did not like Brian. That's what we call a loaded question, and that was Brian's mistake in starting a serious talk.
topnottalking it wasn’t an argument. Brian had asked Quagmire to explain why he didn’t like him. Had Brian retaliated, he would’ve just fueled Quagmire’s roast session.
I wouldn’t say that’s too arrogant since your well liked by everyone, than all of the sudden one person doesn’t like you. That would be confusing. But yes saying “Why do you not like me?” is better.
@@KoopalingfanIt’s completely different, in my opinion. “Why” is a question aimed at one person. “For what reason don’t YOU like me?” is what that question means. “How can you not like me” is significantly more arrogant. It’s more a question like “For what possible reason could you NOT like me?” Which is insanely arrogant. It implies that there’s no logical reason to dislike you. It’s normally something people say tongue in cheek, or flirtatiously in a non serious way. If someone legitimately said “how can you not like me?” that to me is a huge mark of arrogance. It shows that you believe you are owed friendship and being liked, which nobody is.
It's not easy being a bore. I wasted too much time trying to do things so people would like me, and it turned out none of that mattered because in the end I was a bore. I eventually realized I should stop caring if people liked me. So I'm just a bore. Oh well.
@@taopilot2669 I doubt you’re that boring. You just need to stop caring what other people think and make an effort to do your own thing. I had t he same problem all through high school.
The one genuine question everyone wants to ask but due to social stigma as well as the actual effects of the question. Just can't. This scene holds way more weight than just a roast. I love it but also pity how real it is.
I still find it kinda weird and oddly fascinating how Seth McFarlane managed to make, essentially an argument with himself, sound so realistic and emotional.
I feel like it was personal in a way. He's always said that Brian is the most similar to him out of all the characters in the show. Plus he doesn't even really change his voice for Brian , he just uses his normal one.
Notice how Brian asks him "HOW can you not like me?" And not "WHY you don't like me?" Thats because in Brian's mind he is such a great and amazing being, so talented that everyone needs to love him, while in reality he is so delusional and in denial about himself, not even seeing how douchbag he actually is
I love how quagmire always hated Brian but never voiced the reasons until he was asked point plant. A lot of people “hate” others for no good reason but quagmire had the reasons, he just didn’t care enough or feel the inclination to voice them until called upon.
Everyone has their reasons. Quagmire benefits from having his speech prepared and scripted by a TV writer. Most people, when asked "why don't you like me?" are going to be too defensive and emotionally compromised to form a cogent argument.
My problem with this is everything he hates about. Brian is just himself he constantly hit on his best friend's wife and only one of them is an actual sex offender and sexual predator that spikes women's drinks and has had sex with underage girls multiple times. And yeah, while he can admit it, he doesn't change anything which makes him way worse than Brian because he hasn't done that being able to admit that you're wrong and then actively not changing. It is worse than not being able to admit it because you are acknowledged that you're doing something wrong, but then you choose to continue to do it

Who cares if it got old? Changing characters from a complete 180 only sets a precedence of laziness and inability. Who cares if people like Stewie or not? You're not going to like every character. Or their not so subtle approach to Republicans and/or Conservatism. I'm a liberal and I find their liberal agenda fascist. Liberalism means upholding "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" not the same quote minus those who don't fit your worldview. However, my friends tend to laugh and play around more with each other than me. One friend, who I've known for almost two years and consider a best friend, seems to be a lot more playful around someone who they've known for a few months. Exhibiting traits I haven't really seen when they were hanging out with me. Really bruises my ego and self-confidence, and makes me think they see me as a casual friend bordering on acquaintanceship.
I get it since was on the same boat but as I grew older I realized that if anybody is going to like me, I had to like myself first. It wasn't easy reprogramming my brain like that but eventually I came to not hate/Feel inadequate. Mainly because I stopped caring what other people thought about me and started doing things I liked. Eventually people who enjoyed my company still hang out while others simply went away. In the end I found that liking myself should come first then taking care of others second is my path to happiness.

Lauren Ahiable I think Quagmire’s point with the Louis thing is that Brian should be grateful to Peter, yet he continues to take from him and try to sleep with his wife. It’s more about the fact that he’s ungrateful and greedy rather than the sexual interest. Quagmire has shown interest in Louis and slept with Loretta, but he doesn’t really owe anything to Peter and Cleveland. Sure, that’s bad behavior, but he is aware of that and accepts it, plus Loretta did consent to sleeping with him so that’s on her too. He’s certainly a perverted character, but he knows that and isn’t trying to deceive himself. The rest of his points are pretty straightforward and valid. Quagmire is not a perfect character (obviously, it’s Family Guy lol), but he is far from the worst and I think this is a pretty impressive moment for him.
Travis Stoudt tbh u may have a point. For the past few year Lois has turned into quite a bitch. The "worst" part about Brian is what he says right before Quagmire erupts: "How can you not like me?" Not "why don't you", but "how can you not". Brian is so self-absorbed and so sure of his own likability that he cannot understand how someone could not like him. He has a thousand faults on top of the ones Quagmire listed, and if he gave a damn about anyone other than himself, he'd see "how" someone could view him as a rotten person. Instead, he's stuck in a fantasy world he's constructed in which he's such a great guy and so far above everyone else that for someone to not like him is simply inconceivable. This is both one of the best and worst scenes. It is so cathartic to see Brian be knocked off of his high-horse, even for a little bit. It’s a fantastically beautiful rant about why Brian is so awful. The bad is that this shows that Seth knows all the bad things about Brian, things that the people who watch his show criticize, but he hasn’t changed Brian’s character. Now, Brian is just an evil demon wearing the skin of someone who was once so nice. Edit: I forgot about Seth not writing anymore, so just replace “Seth” with “The Writers”.
No, Quagmire hated Brian before that. The sister thing just made it worse because at that point Brian knew Quagmire hated him and rather than just flat out asking him why like he does here, he tries to be awkward and make it seem like a coincidence instead, making a few off hand remarks that get him in trouble.

He doesn't say him being honest excuses his behaviour, he is just disgusted with Brian, the way a blatant gold digger can be disgusted with another gold digger who completely denies being one. He doesn't diss Brian for failing college, he was criticising him for talking down to people despite having no right to do so.

This is so ridiculous. Quagmire is most of these things but worse. He not only hits on his best friend's wives but also their daughters. He continuously rapes and drugs random women he finds at the bar, but still thinks it's better to admit that he does and feel proud of it rather than to deny or feel guilty that he does like Brian. On top of that the few women that he did hit it off with have his children that he neglects to see so he can't even call Brian a terrible father when he abandons hundreds of his own children. And in recent episodes, he acts like a sad, pathetic, and boring old cat lady, so there's no right for him to call anyone else a bore. Plus his career as a pilot is kind of questionable. He does a lot of weird things during his shifts and often puts his passengers lives in dangwr because of his own antics.

The reason these two don’t get along is because there exactly like each other except that Quagmire owns up to the fact that he’s a bad person while Brian pretends he isn’t
@@TulpechaidoplaysMC brian is also a sexual harraser and lied to a blind girl about him being a dog. Making her unknowingly if they ever decide to have sex literally commit a felony.
Honestly what I would have loved the most for this episode is instead of Quagmire hating Brian, it was Joe hating Quagmire. Because think about it, in recent years Quagmire has had a dramatic change in character, they toned him down from being this sex crazed rapist. So instead, the episode is focused on Quagmire being surprised Joe hates him, how could he hate him after all this time? Well Joe has really only hung out with Quagmire when Cleveland and Peter are with them. Then Joe goes through this speech, and this acts the catalyst to kinda explain why Quagmire has changed alot recently.
Understandably, Brian isn’t a very popular character on Family Guy for just about all the reasons Quagmire mentioned but credit where credit is due. Brian actually sat there and took all of that harsh criticism without trying to interrupt Quagmire even once. I can’t think of anybody who would just sit there and take so much harsh criticism like that and not even try to defend themselves or justify their actions or behaviors.
"Yeah, I date women for their bodies, but atleast i'm honest about it" its a good thing that shows like Bojack Horseman exist because there are people out here that act as if knowing what they do is bad/knowing that they are awful somehow makes them a better person.

except Quagmire barely owns up to the fact that he's awful... he shits on Brian for hitting on Lois when he's consistently done the same throughout the series, likely more times than Brian. Also, the dude is a sexual predator. You can't just casually spike women's drinks and hit on underage girls and then act like you're better than someone who is dishonest in relationships because hey, at least he owns up to it (which I actually haven't actually seen him do)
The issue is that the person that owns it has done FAR worse stuff...

He proved Quagmire's point right before Quagmire even dissected his personality flaws.
@@Mrpersonman0 I said shut up you dork
Liberalism means upholding "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" not the same quote minus those who don't fit your worldview. Quagmire is entirely right about the textbook liberal agenda and it fits Brian and Seth and Family Guy to a T. As he is entirely textbook generic about his liberal views. He's just not as self-aware anymore because he's a closeted conservative. Ever seen American Dad? That show is pro-conservative AF and its far more hilarious and entertaining.
Family Guy has had its moments over the years and once in a while, they'll make another one, but its becoming increasingly sporadic with Seth's poor writing habits. Seth himself has admitted his love and effort goes into American Dad.
Albeit no adult cartoon is better than King of the Hill. Thanks for reading.
@@OneManCast there is no pro agenda with American Dad, that's part of the joke, Stan is as "red blooded American" as it comes. Tbf, Seth didn't want to do all these seasons of Family Guy and only wanted to do about 4 season before moving on to other projects

This scene lives rent-free in my head because I can picture it with my stepdad serving as Brian and me serving as Quagmire; me calling out my stepdad's abusive and pretentious bullshit and admitting that I've done some horrible things that I've regretted and even recently tried to fix.
@@GhostGuy99 dude, I get that so much. My father was...something else. He wasn't abusive, but he wasn't there for me much, not as much as I needed him to be, and my mom and I were more like utilities for him when he needed something done.
"--If you weren't such a *bore* !"
That probably hurt Brian the most knowing his ego.
This is one of things I often worry about myself. I'm not the most sociable person and so I feel like I don't have a ton to say, but I still enjoy the company of my friends.
I know a girl like Brian and I roast her for this all the time. She reads a lot of "research" to always back up the same textbook leftwing views on every subject. If all of your worldviews are lock step with the cultural left or right, then you are boring as hell. Don't bother talking to me, I know how you see the world on everything. I don't need to hear about your super deep dive into a very narrow pool.
Quite fitting, considering Brian is his Mary sue. That show is such a bore filled with nuisances. This is one oc the only scenes where I could laugh. And this scene is also gratifying.

Layoffs and salary cuts are never fun for anyone, and in Quagmire's field of flying it could've been a good chance to open that conversation about flight disruption and maybe even create a small bond between them. Conversation, especially when trying to make friends should flow naturally and not rely on what YOU want to talk about.

Healthy Boy it’s Lois
"How can you not like me" is not a question anyone should ever ask.

I mean I'm left wing and he really isn't wrong about a lot of performative bullshit a lot of liberals do. I dont think its political, plenty of people get on like they give a shit about what they believe in but hardly practice it, be it some smug athiest asshole who thinks he's smarter than everyone else or a monotheistic believer thinking everyone but them is going to hell.
@Lewis Paul Hey man at least he’s honest. But you’re kinda right too, I’d say basically the entire 2010’s and onwards is when the left really started going haywire.
@@sandran17 I’ve noticed Americans in general all over the spectrum pretend to give a shit about people in need when they really don’t. But liberals do more damage. They’ll say blm but when it comes down to actual change you cannot rely on them at all
This is so ridiculous.
Admit it, there's at least ten people you know in your life that you have a lecture just like this ready and waiting to be unleashed.
EDIT: ... Well... That's a lot of likes.
Yeah, unfortunately I’m directly blood related to two of them

Not anymore. Bitter complaining tirades (couched as "ass-chewing") aren't really effective at promoting positive behaviors / reflection, so there's little point in them.
Anyone else wish we could've seen Brian face during Quagmire's rant.
I would love that
Timothy Chavis I feel like we didn't see it cause they couldn't really decide on the reactions like that. The best woulda been a angry face going towards him dropping his jaw a little with sadness, but nothing really happened for Brian to be that angry ig
I want to see him cry hysterically like the little bore he is
@@wetaughted4640 *bore
In the next scene you see Brian's reaction.
The reason these two don’t get along is because there exactly like each other except that Quagmire owns up to the fact that he’s a bad person while Brian pretends he isn’t
but isnt quagmire still a way worst person
Being a liar is miles better than being a literal serial rapist

What episode was this with Joe and Quagmire?

I'm pretty sure anyone who has to ask that isn't too likable.

After watching more modern family guy episodes I start agree with quagmire
I also agree with Quagmire
I think the modern episodes made me like him and agree with him even more
Ehh....i see his points...but quagmires far worse when you think of all the shit he's done
Kevin Zhu
Unfortunately modern Family Guy ruined Brian.
Amen.
I agree
I mean, he’s a dog. He probably was just thinking “wow steak!” the entire time.
