OMG! Thanks you guys! Just found $240.00 on an Ulta card!! After watching your videos on UA-cam I started collecting the gift cards. Over the past 3 months I've accumulated 200+ So I finally sat down to check them and THE FOURTH ONE I CHECKED... BAM! $240 BUCKS! Can you believe it? I can't and I've ran the card 3 more times just to make sure! Thanks again and I totally enjoy your vids!

My husband bought some fishing waders on eBay and found a prepaid credit card in. It had almost 5000 pounds sterling on it so he got in touch with the seller. The sellers wife told us she has been saving money on the card and hid it in the waders, not thinking to tell him as she didn't know he was selling them. She was beyond grateful to get it back.
That’s what I consider to be bonus bucks. I’ve had it happen several times, excluding finding coins in the car park. •• US$20 on the ground twice •• US$15 in the inner zip pocket of my ski parka •• US$250 in the armrest covers when I was cleaning and detailing my mum’s car before she sold it; she had forgotten that she put it in there for emergency money whenever we were travelling. The best part, she gave me half!
I found a visa gift card on the ground out side of Wal-Mart I checked it and it had 400 on the card I tried to find the owner but could not I spent 340 on it for the children's charity in Ohio I got them over 300 items from dollar tree and wrapped them all and took them in
I would love to have all the “bad” cards! I use a guitar pick punch on them and make picks for summer music camp students. They all have a value one way or another...
You could always contact a local store- I’m sure they wouldn’t mind setting the used gift cards aside (at least here I don’t think they would mind at certain stores)... way better than going to the dump

I found an unmarked envelope with five $100 bills in a book I bought at 1/2 Price Books. I felt so guilty when I found it -hoping it wasn’t someone’s rent or Christmas. So I payed it forward by buying breakfasts for retired military servicemen, AAA driver who is out there rain, sleet and snow, and others who I thought needed a pick me up. It feels good to pay it forward!
i remember when I was in the salvation army back in 2005 I was sorting through clothes and I looked in a wallet inside a purse and found a folded up 100 and a folded up 50 dollar bill. instead of leaving the drug program and buying drugs I took my girl out to eat and brought her to the movies. we had a great time with out drugs

I once bought a purse from a charity shop and found a high street gift card with £500 loaded on it. I did the biggest food and clothes shop for my kids.
At my store that I work at, we check the balance on “thrown away” gift cards. They’re actually recycled gift cards customers ask to throw away. Anyways, we check the balance before recycling them. And if there is a balance we donate it to CMN! I love that we do this.
That's a great thing to do I would say a lot more stories do it but then we wouldn't find them however if you've got a whole bunch of them take him there cash him in and then donate it to their organization why not it's IT'S A GOOD THING TO DO
I found a $25 Walmart gift card in my apartment complex trash and gave it to my daughter who was a single parent at the time and she used it to get some groceries for her and her baby boy.
I bought a $300 Target card on the 1 day of the year Target sells them at 10%off...(Paid $270)... got around $45 of items.. paid with the card... and the cashier threw it away... I immediately said hey there is money left on that... luckily I knew what design was on the card he retrieved it... good thing because there were other gift cards in the trash... if I didn't know the design... I was have been out $255... everyone... keep an eye on your gift cards and know what design is on them... actually this has happen twice.... the cashiers are in the habit of throwing them away... Don't let them throw your money away.

dnt throw away gift cards cus if u hav a return online they return itt to the gift card. I jus ordered something n was charged and a few days later they returned 1 item on my card due to out of stock. so keep them plsss.
I bought a storage locket for $10 and there was on old McDonald's bag filled with condiments. At the bottom was a 6 gift cards in a rubber band. 6 for Home Depot and one for Michael's Craft Store. The one for Michael's was marked $25 but it had $21.52 on it. The Home Depot ones were marked $100 each. 4 were full and one had $57 one it.
I found a wallet in a bathroom stall at a grocery. I looked at the I.D. And her face made me turn it in..bUt..did the store employee actually call her and return it? Do it yourself and I bet u get a reward and be sure they get it. I should have got a receipt and asked for a call from the owner. *Sorry. I have a hard time with these tiny ph keyboards.
Just last weekend, while at a Marshalls Department Store in Atlanta, I found a Macys gift card in the cart--someone must've thought it was after holidays trash and they left it. On that card, my first ever, I found $27.63! I have a big jar with all the pennies I find on the ground, call it my PENNIES FROM HEAVEN jar and I started it the day my Dad passed in 2013. I've never counted it but it's quite full and i always thank my Dad when I find change on the ground.
My mom would collect pennies she found and had a similar saying from her Dad. She found so many after her Dad passed away. Pennies from heaven is a blessed saying

Reminds me of the young couple who bought a sofa at a thrift store and wound up finding $42,000 inside of it. It turned out the the previous owner was an elderly lady who over the years had used the sofa as a big piggy bank and she eventually passed away before she was able to retrieve the money. The daughter donated the sofa to the thrift store. I commend the young couples honesty but I am not sure I could have been as honest>>>
Yeah, I am the kind of person who walks back to the store when I notice they made a mistake and I paid way too much but with that amount of money I'm not sure I would have been that honest either. o_O
note2owns can you imagine how many of those sofas and mattresses stuffed with money have been taken to the dump when someone passes away? My grandpa told my dad he hid money (silver) in the walls of the trailer they lived in! They never knew if they found it all! 😱
At the very least, they should recycle ♻️ all of that plastic! Some stores, unfortunately, will only issue new cards whether it’s a reload or if a person is returning an item without a receipt. If the cashier is having difficulty reloading a card, I usually just take it to customer service and have them do it.
I ALWAYS TAKE MY GIFT CARD BACK. NOT BECAUSE OF THERE BEING MONEY ON IT BUT BECAUSE SOME PLACES CHARGE FOR THE CARD. LIKE OUR WALMART CHARGES 5.00 FOR THE CARD BEFORE THE AMOUNT THAT ITS FOR, SO THEY AINT GETTING IT BACK TO RESELL ON MY DIME. YES, I AM STINGY LIKE THAT. ESPECIALLY WITH WALMART.
I totally agree with Steph about the cards. Every penny adds up. My hubby and I save our change including pennies. It all add up to a dollar amount quickly. Then, those dollars add up to more dollars. Good job Steph!!!😍❤💕 I'm going to keep my eye out for gift cards
In California, "cards with a balance of less than $10 may be redeemed for the remaining value if the consumer asks." It's the law here. So you can request cash and don't have to use them to buy anything.
When I was in college Someone stole my purse at the laundromat but left his clothes in the washer. So when the police came they got his wallet out of the washer & said looks like someone lost this... gave me all his money (he had just cashed his paycheck) and it was several hundred vs the $5 in quarters I had. Plus the police found my purse a few blocks over and it had my ID and all my stuff in it. 🙂
My sons name is Abraham and he happened to be born on the day lincoln died. (Did not plan this since I had an emergency c section my due date was 4/20). I will hunt for pennies anywhere! Or a 5 dollar bill haha.
Found a 250.00 gift card in a purse that I bought at goodwill. Went back there and I told them i found it in the purse and i tried to return it but they said I could keep it.

I actually work at a goodwill store and you got lucky. Cause if they would of found it, it actually would be sold online. And once youre out the store, it's yours. That's an awesome find, if you ask me!
Our family was going out to eat at a restaurant. When we got out the car and started walking my son found a giftcard on the floor. So he pickd it up & i later checked it at home and it had $270 on it Cheddar's restaurant. So we eat good for about a month.😎
I use to work at Murphy Gas Station and I would find gift cards and scratch offs with money on them. Within 3 weeks I had enough money to buy a pair of winter boots and tennis shoes. I have also found a 30 Starbucks DD and gave it to my dad.

I found a giftcard for $35 walmart giftcard in a giftset basket from my sister babyshower that was stored under the sink ,it was at the bottom of the basket under the filler confetti to stuff the basket .At the time my niece was 3 (so it was 3 yrs old giftcard when found ).It was a blessing bc at the time she needed laundry detergent and baby hygiene items ,I couldn't have found it at a better time!
Found a wristlet in what we believe was a stores lost & found that they decided to get rid of in their dumpster. Had several GC's...& blue tooth wireless earbuds, 2 memory sticks (empty), & the wristlet was COACH!! PF changs $25 MACY'S $25 PIER 1 $86!! Rita's water ice $15 Banana Republic $4.35 JC PENNEY $18.95!

She JUST told us that the ones she uses have NO WAY TO RETURN THEM TO OWNERS. LISTEN in class. And that is the way WE ALL do them. We are NOT dishonest, immoral people. All those cards were MONEY that was THROWN AWAY in the TRASH. This guy, her hubby, does not realize that "all that money" on those cards "goes" NOWHERE. I love it! Y'all are so smart to pick up and check those Gift Cards. I'm not embarrassed at all to use my Gift Cards even if they only have one cent left. It is my money and I like to say I respect my money, that I'm frugal, a Money Manager, and I don't waste money or anything if I can help it in any way. I found one in an old parking lot for $100 once.
Bought a purse at a thrift store. Three gift cards in the inside pocket. A $25 Sears, a $50 Sears and $100 VISA. The VISA had a three year old receipt with it so none were recently misplaced.
Wow. I never thought of that. You will now find me at my local thrift store pretending to be interested in buying a purse. But, I'll be checking to see if I can find anything in there.

I pick up change I find all the time! I had forgot my wallet at home one time when I went to get my oil changed, well the place I went to didn't take checks! So I asked if they would take change( all those coins I pick up go in my center console) they said yes. Well I had enough for the oil change with alot still left over! My best gift card was 100.00 and my best scratch off found was 25.00. It was still attached to others that had been scrathed but guess that one was forgotten.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I couldn't find it. There is an app in the Google PlayStore called Cardarama (and probably others) that is supposed to scan all kinds of gift cards. I know you said you enjoy typing in the numbers, but if you ever get tired of it, there's an option. I would guess that Apple would have similar apps. Thanks for sharing your finds! I use to work at Costco and on the floor in the deli section i found a target gift card just laying on the floor next to a trash can by a demo person. I took it home to see if there's any money and found $15 :) never underestimate gift cards

Just trying to figure out how that Holy Spirit thing works in your favor sometimes, and not in your favor a LOT of the time.

The reason, my husband has Stage IV Renal Cancer and she knows money is tight. So...I could not purchase the food in my cart that day.

One man's trash is another man's treasure! I worked with a Dr that kept a big cup in his car for change and when it got full he would just empty it on the ground where ever he was at! He said he hated change! I see NO problem in you doing this! In fact good for you!
Be careful when paying with a Gift Cards at a restaurant because when I worked at the Cheesecake Factory in San Francisco some of the employees would give the customer back a blank card when there was a balance remaining on the Gift Card because no one checks the Gift Card after the pay with it. Your receipt will tell you the remaining balance but who checks that? The employee will use that Gift Card on a different table who pays cash so they get that cash and no one knows anything.
I love watching you guys! I've been an accidental "finder" for years, but haven't had the guts to go thru dumpsters yet. I'm thinking about trying it, but have some questions: - are there specific days of the week that are better? - are there specific times of day that are better? - how do you avoid getting hassled by employees? - let's just say I'm quite a bit older than you guys, so not as nimble in terms of climbing, jumping in dumpsters, etc. Any tips on the best ways to get up into and out of dumpsters. Would it make sense to bring a step ladder of some kind, or is that too cumbersome? - should I bring a friend to help me, or do you think I'd be fairly safe going alone? - do you find out in advance which days the waste management companies pick up, so you'll know when you'll get the biggest piles of stuff to sort through? I may think of more question later, but if you've got time to answer these, that would be awesome! I lived in Bowie, MD for many years. We called it the yard sale/trash pickers capital of MD! It was almost like a cottage industry. There were anywhere from 20-50 yard sales every saturday. It's a huge city and they even had laminated maps you could use a grease pencil to plot your saturday morning yard sale route on and then wipe clean and be ready for the next saturday. On the day before trash pick-up, everyone who didn't want to be bothered having a yard sale, would put all their stuff out on the curb and then everyone would drive around that evening and pick up whatever they wanted. Got tons of cool furniture, tons of awesome toys for my grandkids, even antiques for years! My friend has been doing this every week for 35 years and loads up his truck. He finds new homes for a lot of the stuff, gives it to the needy and keeps what he can use. I like the gift card idea. I'm a whiz on a 10-key and have plenty of time to sit and check the card balances since I retired. I'm another one who always bends over to pick up pennies. I've been doing it for 60 years! Money is money is money! Whether it be 1 cent or $100!! I always tell my kids even if it's a penny that you find, pick it up; it's a treasure and a great find and one more cent than they previously have, which if you save those pennies, it all adds up!! People accidentally throw away gift cards... like my hubby (luckily we realized it before the garbage was picked up... thank God)... so you never know what you'll find!! I think it's totally worth it! Thanks for sharing! I definitely need to start looking for gift cards now.. LOL

Often, when I do my thrift shopping I end up surprised . I have found several gift cards in purse, wallets and in jacket pockets. The most I found was $23.00 on a Kohl's gift card inside a purse pocket. :)
I went yard sailing to about 10 different yard sales I bought a purse and it had like six gift cards inside I forgot what yard sale I got it from so I could not return found like $500 inGift cards different stores total to 500 I was very happy
WOW! Bam! You did good, girl! I tried to use two gift cards at the movies recently and was told they were empty. NO they were not. In a huff, I walked away but if I had kept my jets cooled, I should have asked for them back and checked their balance online. I always write the balance on the back after i use them. Just a warning to everyone to be careful! Check the balance yourself, dont ask an employee!

I purchase gift cards when Kroger does 2 or 3 times has points. I bought numerous lowes cards and while the cashier scanned them she said there was less on them then their was. I told her to do it again and the second time it took the rest. Makes u wonder how many stores have that issue and made a profit off gift cards

Hi Steph, Almost time for another gift card video again :) I was checking some of mine tonight and just wanted to let you know that you can also scratch off the area where the pin is located. You don't have to peel off each one.
I work in retail returns. If a customer has a gift card Visa, MasterCard etc and buys product with such cards they mistakingly give the cashier the card because it has a o balance. But then need to return said product and the return balance will go back to the card. They forgot they used that and relinquished to cashier. So at the end of the day they are thrown away. So always keep the card till your sure you no longer need to return.

I just googled and read an old report, issued in 2011. At that time it was estimated at least $41 BILLION in gift cards have gone unclaimed. It didn't say what span of time that covered. And that doesn't include the past 8 years worth of GC purchases.
Glad they have decided they don't expire. I had to argue with a store that my gift card was still good. Still some now charge you a fee till it is all gone.

Found a target gift card n the parking lot of walmarts. Checked n got 52.76. Couldnt of found it at a better time. Needed tpaper n other personal stuff badly. Went back to the car n back to targets n got what i needed. Lol. Used up the card later on..like a month later. My sister found a visa gift card with a balance of 100 on it. Julie Grace for one they have no clue who the gift card belongs to, there is not a name on the gift cards. It was found in a parking lot!! And she didn’t say she just found it, from what I read and it was awhile ago, not recently!

My mom is 95 and family always seem to give her gift cards but the thing is she hardly ever uses them she has so many what my sister who lives near her should do is cash them in for her and give her the money. I bet there's over $1,000 in cards some are to red lobster or other food places that my Mom won't go to and if she does go out to eat family takes her and pays like on her birthday so she won't use a gift card to pay. How many people give gift cards to elderly family because they can't think of something to give them? They could use the money to pay bills like at the assisted living for extras like cable or WiFi or anything she may need plus the bills she pays for insurance to supplement Medicare.
I taught my Grandma about Ebay auctions and Tophatter so now she tells everyone I don't want a gift card for a restaurant or Store give me a Visa gift card I taught get how to add them and take them off her Paypal account 😂
I bet the websites don't pay much for the cards. Be sure to tell people that she can't use them. I was given two that expired because I'm chronically ill and can't always (or often at all) run off to a spa or department store, and I hate waste. I feel awful every day, and this happened over a decade ago.

When Mrs. Stephanie ask Mr. Steve at the beginning how much was the total going to be and he said $35.00 I just somehow knew it was more than that. I thought it'd be around $125.00, don't ask why and no I'm not lying or making it up. It was just a good guess. Their being irresponsible in the first place for throwing them its called bad business practice, the amount of unnecessary trash that goes to landfill is ridiculous and we divers know this. If they disposed of them correctly and checked them then us dumpster divers wouldn't cash in and they will profit instead. If they lose money then it's their fault! Your never too big to fail.
It's interesting in the sense of how people literally throw money away, but that's a TON of work for just $125. Might be a good hobby for kids or something, I guess.

Petrol company automatically holds $50 leaving $50 available on card. A few days later, after the hold is released and having not made any additional purchases, the available balance is $72.64. •• Ofttimes the cards may be used only in the country of purchase, so regardless how close you are to the border, a Visa card purchased in WA won’t work in Canada. •• The expiry dates vary greatly. Some are a year, some never expire, some are only valid for 3 or 4 months.

My husband bought some fishing waders on eBay and found a prepaid credit card in. It had almost 5000 pounds sterling on it so he got in touch with the seller. The sellers wife told us she has been saving money on the card and hid it in the waders, not thinking to tell him as she didn't know he was selling them. She was beyond grateful to get it back.

I found a visa gift card on the ground out side of Wal-Mart I checked it and it had 400 on the card I tried to find the owner but could not I spent 340 on it for the children's charity in Ohio I got them over 300 items from dollar tree and wrapped them all and took them in

I found an unmarked envelope with five $100 bills in a book I bought at 1/2 Price Books. I felt so guilty when I found it -hoping it wasn’t someone’s rent or Christmas. So I payed it forward by buying breakfasts for retired military servicemen, AAA driver who is out there rain, sleet and snow, and others who I thought needed a pick me up. It feels good to pay it forward!

At my store that I work at, we check the balance on “thrown away” gift cards.
They’re actually recycled gift cards customers ask to throw away.
Anyways, we check the balance before recycling them. And if there is a balance we donate it to CMN! I love that we do this.

I bought a $300 Target card on the 1 day of the year Target sells them at 10%off...(Paid $270)... got around $45 of items.. paid with the card... and the cashier threw it away... I immediately said hey there is money left on that... luckily I knew what design was on the card he retrieved it... good thing because there were other gift cards in the trash... if I didn't know the design... I was have been out $255... everyone... keep an eye on your gift cards and know what design is on them... actually this has happen twice.... the cashiers are in the habit of throwing them away... Don't let them throw your money away.

I bought a storage locket for $10 and there was on old McDonald's bag filled with condiments. At the bottom was a 6 gift cards in a rubber band. 6 for Home Depot and one for Michael's Craft Store. The one for Michael's was marked $25 but it had $21.52 on it. The Home Depot ones were marked $100 each. 4 were full and one had $57 one it.

I have a big jar with all the pennies I find on the ground, call it my PENNIES FROM HEAVEN jar and I started it the day my Dad passed in 2013. I've never counted it but it's quite full and i always thank my Dad when I find change on the ground.

Reminds me of the young couple who bought a sofa at a thrift store and wound up finding $42,000 inside of it. It turned out the the previous owner was an elderly lady who over the years had used the sofa as a big piggy bank and she eventually passed away before she was able to retrieve the money. The daughter donated the sofa to the thrift store. I commend the young couples honesty but I am not sure I could have been as honest>>>

At the very least, they should recycle ♻️ all of that plastic! Some stores, unfortunately, will only issue new cards whether it’s a reload or if a person is returning an item without a receipt.
If the cashier is having difficulty reloading a card, I usually just take it to customer service and have them do it.

In California, "cards with a balance of less than $10 may be redeemed for the remaining value if the consumer asks." It's the law here. So you can request cash and don't have to use them to buy anything.

When I was in college Someone stole my purse at the laundromat but left his clothes in the washer. So when the police came they got his wallet out of the washer & said looks like someone lost this... gave me all his money (he had just cashed his paycheck) and it was several hundred vs the $5 in quarters I had. I use to work at Murphy Gas Station and I would find gift cards and scratch offs with money on them. Within 3 weeks I had enough money to buy a pair of winter boots and tennis shoes. I have also found a 30 Starbucks DD and gave it to my dad.

I found a giftcard for $35 walmart giftcard in a giftset basket from my sister babyshower that was stored under the sink ,it was at the bottom of the basket under the filler confetti to stuff the basket .At the time my niece was 3 (so it was 3 yrs old giftcard when found ).It was a blessing bc at the time she needed laundry detergent and baby hygiene items ,I couldn't have found it at a better time!

It is my money and I like to say I respect my money, that I'm frugal, a Money Manager, and I don't waste money or anything if I can help it in any way. I found one in an old parking lot for $100 once.

I pick up change I find all the time! I had forgot my wallet at home one time when I went to get my oil changed, well the place I went to didn't take checks! So I asked if they would take change( all those coins I pick up go in my center console) they said yes. Well I had enough for the oil change with alot still left over! My best gift card was 100.00 and my best scratch off found was 25.00. It was still attached to others that had been scrathed but guess that one was forgotten.

I am not sure if it is the same in all states, but in California if a gift card has less than $5 on it you can get the balance back in cash.
Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I couldn't find it. There is an app in the Google PlayStore called Cardarama (and probably others) that is supposed to scan all kinds of gift cards. I know you said you enjoy typing in the numbers, but if you ever get tired of it, there's an option. I would guess that Apple would have similar apps. Thanks for sharing your finds! The reason, my husband has Stage IV Renal Cancer and she knows money is tight. So...I could not purchase the food in my cart that day.

Ok I just have to say I LOVE THIS!!! We have clean up weekends and people throw out good things, but.... my husband hates it when I ask to use his truck lol he knows somethings up. Oh well, I think it's a gr8 idea, love it when u donate to schools!!! Very cool.

One man's trash is another man's treasure! I worked with a Dr that kept a big cup in his car for change and when it got full he would just empty it on the ground where ever he was at! He said he hated change! I see NO problem in you doing this! In fact good for you!
Be careful when paying with a Gift Cards at a restaurant because when I worked at the Cheesecake Factory in San Francisco some of the employees would give the customer back a blank card when there was a balance remaining on the Gift Card because no one checks the Gift Card after the pay with it. Your receipt will tell you the remaining balance but who checks that? The employee will use that Gift Card on a different table who pays cash so they get that cash and no one knows anything.

Whenever I get a gift card for a restaurant, I write the balance with a Sharpie so I know I get the same card back.
I love watching you guys! I've been an accidental "finder" for years, but haven't had the guts to go thru dumpsters yet. I'm thinking about trying it, but have some questions:
- are there specific days of the week that are better?
- are there specific times of day that are better?
- how do you avoid getting hassled by employees?
- let's just say I'm quite a bit older than you guys, so not as nimble in terms of climbing, jumping in dumpsters, etc. Any tips on the best ways to get up into and out of dumpsters. Would it make sense to bring a step ladder of some kind, or is that too cumbersome?
- should I bring a friend to help me, or do you think I'd be fairly safe going alone?
- do you find out in advance which days the waste management companies pick up, so you'll know when you'll get the biggest piles of stuff to sort through?
I may think of more question later, but if you've got time to answer these, that would be awesome!
I lived in Bowie, MD for many years. We called it the yard sale/trash pickers capital of MD! It was almost like a cottage industry. There were anywhere from 20-50 yard sales every saturday. It's a huge city and they even had laminated maps you could use a grease pencil to plot your saturday morning yard sale route on and then wipe clean and be ready for the next saturday. On the day before trash pick-up, everyone who didn't want to be bothered having a yard sale, would put all their stuff out on the curb and then everyone would drive around that evening and pick up whatever they wanted. Got tons of cool furniture, tons of awesome toys for my grandkids, even antiques for years! My friend has been doing this every week for 35 years and loads up his truck. He finds new homes for a lot of the stuff, gives it to the needy and keeps what he can use.
I like the gift card idea. I'm a whiz on a 10-key and have plenty of time to sit and check the card balances since I retired. I'm another one who always bends over to pick up pennies. I've been doing it for 60 years!

Money is money is money! Whether it be 1 cent or $100!! I always tell my kids even if it's a penny that you find, pick it up; it's a treasure and a great find and one more cent than they previously have, which if you save those pennies, it all adds up!! People accidentally throw away gift cards... like my hubby (luckily we realized it before the garbage was picked up... thank God)... so you never know what you'll find!! I think it's totally worth it! Thanks for sharing! I definitely need to start looking for gift cards now.. LOL

Often, when I do my thrift shopping I end up surprised . I have found several gift cards in purse, wallets and in jacket pockets. The most I found was $23.00 on a Kohl's gift card inside a purse pocket. :)

In a huff, I walked away but if I had kept my jets cooled, I should have asked for them back and checked their balance online. I always write the balance on the back after i use them. Just a warning to everyone to be careful! Check the balance yourself, dont ask an employee!

I purchase gift cards when Kroger does 2 or 3 times has points. I bought numerous lowes cards and while the cashier scanned them she said there was less on them then their was. I told her to do it again and the second time it took the rest. Makes u wonder how many stores have that issue and made a profit off gift cards

Almost time for another gift card video again :) I was checking some of mine tonight and just wanted to let you know that you can also scratch off the area where the pin is located. You don't have to peel off each one.
I work in retail returns. If a customer has a gift card Visa, MasterCard etc and buys product with such cards they mistakingly give the cashier the card because it has a o balance. But then need to return said product and the return balance will go back to the card. They forgot they used that and relinquished to cashier. So at the end of the day they are thrown away. So always keep the card till your sure you no longer need to return.

I just googled and read an old report, issued in 2011. At that time it was estimated at least $41 BILLION in gift cards have gone unclaimed. It didn't say what span of time that covered. And that doesn't include the past 8 years worth of GC purchases.

My mom is 95 and family always seem to give her gift cards but the thing is she hardly ever uses them she has so many what my sister who lives near her should do is cash them in for her and give her the money. I bet there's over $1,000 in cards some are to red lobster or other food places that my Mom won't go to and if she does go out to eat family takes her and pays like on her birthday so she won't use a gift card to pay. How many people give gift cards to elderly family because they can't think of something to give them? They could use the money to pay bills like at the assisted living for extras like cable or WiFi or anything she may need plus the bills she pays for insurance to supplement Medicare.

I bet the websites don't pay much for the cards. Be sure to tell people that she can't use them. I was given two that expired because I'm chronically ill and can't always (or often at all) run off to a spa or department store, and I hate waste. I feel awful every day, and this happened over a decade ago.

When Mrs. Stephanie ask Mr. Steve at the beginning how much was the total going to be and he said $35.00 I just somehow knew it was more than that. I thought it'd be around $125.00, don't ask why and no I'm not lying or making it up. It was just a good guess.

Their being irresponsible in the first place for throwing them its called bad business practice, the amount of unnecessary trash that goes to landfill is ridiculous and we divers know this. If they disposed of them correctly and checked them then us dumpster divers wouldn't cash in and they will profit instead. If they lose money then it's their fault! Your never too big to fail.

Awesome find(s), especially the Apple one!! Just a few things about prepaid Visa/MC/AmEx cards that I’ve learnt from personal experience.
•• Recheck those cards after 5 business days. If they’ve been used to pay for gas or hotel, the companies may very well have put a larger hold against the card to ensure the funds are there. Ex: start with $100 on card. Pay $27.36 for petrol. Petrol company automatically holds $50 leaving $50 available on card. A few days later, after the hold is released and having not made any additional purchases, the available balance is $72.64.
•• Ofttimes the cards may be used only in the country of purchase, so regardless how close you are to the border, a Visa card purchased in WA won’t work in Canada.
•• The expiry dates vary greatly. Some are a year, some never expire, some are only valid for 3 or 4 months.
