I'm in the Scottish Highlands in a rural, remote setting and I, too, am a homebody. I love your honesty. I am very lucky to work from home where I can bake sourdough during the work day and walk out from the front door onto the Highland hills. If you are anything like me, you will never tire of it and you will never take it for granted. So give yourself grace while you settle into a new rhythm and enjoy the little things... like the wind, the rain, the gorse, the heather, the birdsong, the dramatic skies and a nice cup of tea taken outside in the bluster! I'm enjoying your journey 💚
Hi Corri great to see you enjoying your new homestead and the simple lifestyle, My friend used to say about his son, that he was content with himself. Self contentment means you are wealthy person. kind regards Sean
It might just be that it is so cold this year here in Ireland. I'm usually out more at this time too....but finding myself inside by the fire with cups of tea...soon the weather will be warmer and you will feel like getting out on the land...
I have been spending quite a few hours watching expatriates from the UK refurbishing old cottages and I have to say I find it fascinating. We moved here from the UK in 2007 and have enjoyed living on a 2 acre smallholding, developing it and watching it mature. I hope you enjoy settling here. Bon chance!
You make me reflect on recent history behind the seeming exodus from urban centers toward rural homesteading. I follow smallholders building new lives in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, and Sicily. I suppose that the pandemic made us realize that many of us can work from anywhere, and we really do have choices. As well, the pandemic seems to have shifted our values toward simpler living, sustainability, and relationship with nature.
Thank you for this thoughtful reflection. I totally agree, it really has been a shift, hasn't it? I think the more we shift towards simpler, more sustainable living and reconnect with lost rhythms and connection with nature, the better off we'll all be!
chickens are usually the 1st livestock that new farmers acquire as they are the easiest to look after; ideal position is not too far away from the house but not too close as they do get a bit smelly esp in the wet you should start thinking about where you would put an orchard or planting fruit trees & nectar trees for the pollinators it usually takes about a year of living on a place before you're sure of where to put things down in the swampy areas i would ask your local nursery about what grows best in bogs (or ask your neighbours) Willows come to mind & they still have multiple uses am enjoying your vlogs so far, looking forward to the restoration of the cottage thanx for sharing
funny you should mention it, we have been talking about where we'd put an orchard actually! Yes you're right, I think it's good to live for the full 4 seasons through here before we make any big decisions on where things will go. GREAT suggestion on asking the local nursery, thank you for that. Happy to have you along for the journey Selina!
When it's warmer, take off your shoes and socks and let your bare feet connect with Mother Earth. It's like plugging in to nature to nurture your soul.
Hi Cori, I've subscribed to your channel.....coz, Ireland. My husband and I are Belgian, but we've lived in Ireland (co Kerry) for over 13 years. Now, we've been in France for the last 6, but there is always a pull to the magical land that is Ireland. I am looking forward to seeing your endeavors and progress. On a sunny day, the gorse flowers have the scent of coconut.
It really IS a magical land, isn't it?? Although I am a big fan of France too so I also understand that move! Thank you for joining us on this journey, so pleased to have you. And you're the second person who told me about the coconut scent... I literally had no idea!
Thanks for the lovely reflective video Cori! Loved watching the sourdough kneading! Now that's therapy! It's a beautiful place. Good to just be and live slowly. Kxx
Just caught up with your videos and love seeing you in the countryside finally. So much fun following along and thanks for sharing with us. Yes, totally know what you mean about the socks in wellies. In my last book about Nordic living I dedicated quite a long paragraph about the importance of good socks for a happy outdoor living. 😄 It's important stuff. xx
So glad I found your channel and binged watched all your travels etc. It’s so lovely to see you settling in and finding your rhythm, love the land, it’s probably still surreal that it’s yours and could can walk anywhere on it xxxx
Yay so pleased to have you here Tracy! It really still is surreal that it's ours. We sat out yesterday evening having a drink and watching the sunset and said "when will it not feel like a dream?!". So grateful.
You need some bird feeders on some of those branches to sit and watch with your cup of tea.. are those your sheep? A few goats too and they’ll clear that land for you no problem 😊
Funny you should mention that... my daughter made one a few weeks ago and so far none of the birds have been near it! 😂 Not our sheep, our neighbours. They're just a bit naughty and decided to come visit us haha! Goats would be a good shout for clearing....
I identify with your thought process and I love the way you speak it out loud so well. I wish I could be so eloquent out loud. You’ve definitely made me think about the just ‘being’ I’m a homebody too but also an outdoor one….but always outdoor close to home 😂 if that makes sense? I think we both moved to Ireland for the same reasons just to be right there in the middle of where you would have normally had to travel to get to it! I very much enjoyed your cosy week. I also adore the sound of the rain on…anything lol…caravan, car, tent…the hood of my waterproof coat! 😂 ooh also a tip for the wellies….i wear a thin pair like you would normally and then I put a fluffy pair over those and the ankle of my jeans/leggings and the socks stay in place very well!
Ok we're making Outdoor Homebodies a thing. Club of 2? Who else wants to join?! I think you're a kindred spirit for sure... the reasons for the move, the cosiness, the sound of rain. You get it! And thank you for the much needed wellies+socks advice! Will be putting this into action today!
Hi ray here from Newfoundland pretty good Irish population here to.can’t wait to see the progress love the videos, you said your on west coast, are you close to cork or further west, I was there once. Keep up awesome job ❤
Hello in Newfoundland Ray! I actually was born in Canada funny enough. Pleased to have you along for the journey! We're further west 😍 And did you love it when you visited??
Yep, we are kindreds. We're currently living our dream in a 5th wheel caravan ( trailer) In Utah US with our Jersey cows just outside. We are getting our build started this month and although it will be new it will definitely have old world charm. If I can't live in Ireland, I'll do my best to make a slice of heaven here! P.S. do you have a recipe for the sourdough cookies?
So pleased to have you here kindred spirit! Oooh love that you have Jerseys. Ok I want to watch YOUR build now!! Cheering you on! Yes the sourdough cookies are from Lisa Bass, her blog is Farmhouse on Boone and she has a channel of the same name. I owe my sourdough skills to that lady, bless her soul.
Just curious - what kind of work do you do that allows you to work remotely? I think it's great that you're able to do so and enjoy your surroundings and family. Assuming your husband doesn't work, or is he a "work from home" also? Thank you
Great question! I run my own business which is facilitating all of this. I actually did a video about how I was paying for our full time travel a few months back, in case you're curious to find out more 😊
Where about in Canada was you born? Actually I love Ireland always have I’m in process of trying to see if I’m able to move there but it is very difficult for me not being of Irish descent.

Just subscribed to your channel and can’t wait for the renovations to start…the caravan too! 😉
We live in France and are living our dream too 🥰

All my favourite things. It was a delightfully cosy week!
Looks a lovely place. It's great that the days are lengthening. Soon will be spring. Thanks for the video. All the best 🇬🇧.

Lots of gorse, you can use the gorse blossoms to make gorse blossom wine, if you ever get the chance. (The blossoms smell like coconut!)
Very impressed with your dough and the gluten development. Better than I have managed

Hello in Newfoundland Ray! I actually was born in Canada funny enough. Pleased to have you along for the journey! We're further west 😍 And did you love it when you visited??
Do you have a sourdough starter recipe? Mine came out too dense haha! Could you teach us the whole process? From starter to bread finish?❤
Love your jumper. Is it hand knitted 😅

Wishing you the best in your goal to move here! I was born in Saskatchewan! Are you in Canada? ❤
Yes I live on an island on the east coast of Canada called Newfoundland
How’s the house coming on
It's not yet! We have to wait on our grant application so just in a waiting game for a while
I have never been to Ireland
It's a beautiful country but of course I am biased. But it's also the truth 😊
What it like then
Any chance of a piece of that bread😅
Haha! Well... thing is... I ate it all... 😂 Then again, I always have a loaf in the making.
Get yourself some wellie socks girl! And be sure to smell that gorse..coconut at its finest!
Coconut?! {leaves to go sniff the gorse...}
you need a dog, simple as that;)
I’m sure a border collie is on the cards.. plenty of land and they need plenty of exercise.. lots of dogs to rehome/adopt in Cork
I was hoping to see you put your hands on your hips, puff your chest out and yell something great lol
