If AR Murugadoss took some more time and worked on the script a bit, it would have been a better movie. But we can’t blame not alone the director, there would have been some involvement of Thalaivar in it. Hope, ARM gives a great comeback with SK.

Some easy changes, that could have made the movie a superhit/BB
1. Avoiding north indian backdrop and characters - For most of the time, it felt like watching a dubbing movie and lip-sync was out of place throuout. This itself alienates a movie from the audience. Thuppakki too was of north india backdrop but it was more of screenplay and less of dialogues, which made it worked big. They could have easily made Rajini travel to TN/South India, so you could have more local connect and appeal
2. Early reveal of the reason behind why Rajini went raw & rogue i.e his daughter's death. They shouldn't have done this and one can predict the flow of the subsequent scenes easily. But i must say, despite this, the father-daughter portions throughout were very warming, emotional and heart-breaking. Great acting by Rajini there post her death
3. (Diverted) Sub-plots connecting to main plot - Rajini was supposed to come to Mumbai to mainly to track down Hari Chopra (Suniel Shetty) but the plot got diverted to drugs, trafficking, immigration loopholes and then landed to Hari chopra again. Though this is not a big fault, its strange how an Assistant commissioner overlooked his main purpose, got into some issues and only later to realize these are parts of his main purpose.
4. Very average or bad last 20 mns - Until then, the movie was ok. But they transitioned Suniel's character to a weaker one (who was introduced as a deadly gangster) followed by the age-old climax, where he went all alone to the memorial place and challenged Rajini to have a one-to-one. I was expecting Rajni to set fire on Suniel, similar to how he has done on Mumbai policemen 17 years ago. It would have not made a great change but atleast a better revenge and something different for the audience.
Regardless, I like this movie a lot and keep rewatching the scenes at times, mainly because of Superstar. His trademark style moments, swag, comedy, romance, emotions, mass moments, fatherly & emotional touches etc. in short the RAJINISM - after a long while. Though Petta had such moments and is a better movie, it was Darbar which fully leveraged Rajinism. ARM directed this merely as a fanboy and not a script writer/director.
Wish this could have been utilized in a better movie but again..we had JAILER now 🔥🔥🔥

The weakest story plot of the movie. Should have applied some logic for the hospital scene. The movie needed gym scene for his comeback followed by Kannula Thimiru as the climax.

Box office wise Darbar is a superhit movie. It Collected 250 crore.. But I accept that last 20 min of movie and Dubbing were poor
Dont forget Superstar before Rajinikanth on the title 😡
