This is a companion mod for Hogwarts Legacy which involves editing your save file. You can have almost any NPC as your companion - in this case, it's everybody's favorite Slytherin, Sebastian Sallow. This mod pretty much confirms what I've always suspected about the game: there was supposed to be a companion feature but the devs decided to not implement it for some reason. From the looks of things, the companion feature was halfway-implemented in the base game; you'll see how throughout the video.
As usual: backup your save files before attempting to mod them!

So they already had the lines recorded by the voice actors and most of the companion files are still in the game. WHY DID THEY CUT THIS????????? This companion stuff would make the game 9/10 for me
I know this comment is a year old, but so much got cut from the games. I’m mad that the side quest with Ominis got cut

@@Cyberlucybut why though 😭 plus i was wondering if they would make a dlc but apparently they won’t ? and even if they added these things (morality, side quests etc) wouldn’t it be too late anyway since most people finished the game ? i’m guessing they might’ve chosen to kept these out so they could use it in a possibly second hogwarts legacy game (if they’re ever make any)
I wish Companions are unlocked after beating the main story. I think they just cut this feature and it is really programmed to be like that.
yeah it gets quite lonely after completing all main + side quests. You can’t interact w the npcs anymore after that either.
i think the same after finish the game,all the game the player say i need come here with friends or some like that,and that places never are used in any quest ,i think is a removed feature.
They should add new game + and companions after you beat the game, so you can continue with your wizard/witch all from the beginning but with your levels, potions, etc but higher difficulties. If they add this, the game will be insanely good and add a lot of replayability.
I'm so excited to be able to do this! After I beat the game, I must admit I miss having a friend a long side me to battle with. Especially the amazing Seby

Yeah I remember when the game was first announced I was really hoping that it would be bit more "choices matter" type game, where if you decided to hang out with someone more than others they would eventually join you for your adventures. Like you would have to choose who you would do a quest with, and picking one would lock the other away.
@@katek5067 They could have done is as you would go to a place to pick them up and you can leave them whenever you want so they would just leave you where you are. Maybe there could be a button to let them leave on the gear menu. :P I would have picked up Poppy instead of Sebastian. xD
I played Ravenclaw and Sebastian said to me “For a Ravenclaw, you still need to work on your spell casting skills”. I was like excuse meee??! You offended my pride as a Ravenclaw 😅

I did find it odd our character kept talking about being alone or wishing someone was with them to see an achievement. Makes me think that at the very least co-op was supposed to be in the game as well.
Correct. I don't know why they decided to not implement the companion feature in the game, it's such a shame that we have to resort to using mods to bring that back in. From what I've gathered, the game was supposed to have so many other features too, it could've rivaled a Bethesda/Bioware RPG.
@@GrandTheftDiamonds Avalanche probably wanted to play it safe. This is their first triple A title after all. The game is still beautiful and in my opinion deserves game of the year. But in my opinion it needs to at the very least have co-op and much more difficult enemies.
Yeah especially when you go to some of the bigger bandit camps and your character says something along the lines of it would be unwise to go alone.

I cant call myself a hardcore player nor casual, somewhere in between, I guess, but I found normal difficulty so easy, that I switched to the hard mod right before final boss. And even then I wasnt that troubled with beating it, even though I was 37 lvl with boss being 39 and I didnt upgrade my gear at all, just changed 2 or 3 traits. The feature of upgrading and adding traits in this game feels like empty decoration, since there is no dire need of "surviving" in this game, when it comes to battles. Wish we had an options of testing our limits in arenas. They are fun as they are now, but some optional challenge would be welcome in this game.
@@YiorKha I know what you mean. When I switched to Hard Mode I expected the enemies to cast Unforgivables at me. If you are playing on PC I downloaded the “Very Hard Mode” Mod which made all enemies either the same level or higher than your characters. The mod also made them attack more aggressively and made our attacks weaker. Made some encounters and missions very challenging.
I take my hat off to ingenuity. To legally force one of the Hogwarts hunks to accompany you... That's great!

@Azuri e I don't think this is a good reason, there are many similar games with a similar companion system, and it works.
I’ve been playing with companions for quite a long time, and I didn’t see anything critical (at most in a couple of places the NPC’s route is not registered, but it just teleports to me and everything is fine again), which indicates that the system was removed shortly before the release.
In any case, having to run around the world alone is an unpleasant minus, and my optimism tells me to hope for the future (maybe the developers will add this sooner or later? Or will someone make a more convenient and lore mod?).
@Azuri e I completely agree! And sales of the game with a circulation of almost a billion, they say that a new game on "Wizarding World" is a matter of time!

I love how Sebastian is hyping us up
They should allow for follower companions. Once you gain their trust and loyalty, they are sure to want to help you as much as they'd like. Would help a lot for side quests. Other than the main relationship quests, there are a lot of interesting students I'd like to fight alongside with has a very interesting personality to them. Like the Ravenclaw that gives us a telescope later. He was very helpful! Underrated dude.
to do something like that, they'd need to have a relationship system and the developers were just too lazy to do something so "complicated" as that.

@@hieunguyenchi960 lack of time?! dude it was originally set to come out in 2021! they had an extra 2 years to work on it on top of however long they'd been working on when they announced it in 2020! as for man power, they had a budget of 150 million dollars! if they couldn't get enough people on a budget like that where did all the money go? in case you were wondering, skyrim a game very similar to this one, but with tons more features was made on 100 million. the developers had to be lazy because i can't think on why they would make such a pathetically small game if they had that big a budget! just admit you don't know anything about games and try to ignore your buyer's remorse, you look like a simp.
@@abiean222 that relationship system already got ingame, but been decided to be cut off somehow. They already found those file still exist in game, but not have been brought into real game. They could have get rid of it at the start if they are that lazy. And this studio is not big either. If u comparing to that, why not look at Forspoken which have similar price, bigger budget and see how it have been done =)))) a pathetically small game then how u call Forspoken?

I wanted a cat in the Room of Requirement. I also wanted Ominis as a companion. Finally, I wanted to either customize my common room (choose my roommates ie Nerida, Imelda, Sebastian, Onimis. Assign beds and change decorations etc) But I also wanted to choose which companion I could have in my Room of Requirement to tend to one Vivarium of my choosing or wandering the room or reading, studying, researching etc
It would be nice if they could add it back as dlc for us console players. I would happily pay for it!

Ok, I wasnt really going to install a companion mod at first. I thought that outside of quests with party members, NPCs will feel kinda dead inside, but seeing this I now understand that there really was a party system that got removed, which is really sad, honestly, cause this looks amazing.
Also through my first playthrough where I just finished main story, but still have, I think, around 40% of map to clear, I was playing as a friendly and kind person. I cant imagen my character going on adventures alone, which was kinda breaking my emersion in the world of the game. Kinda regret a bit now, not installing companion mod sooner.
The companion system better be in the next game. There better be a next game. Edit: Avalanche could’ve made us wait another year if they wanted just so we could have this companion feature and I don’t think I’d ever complain
The fans wouldn't complain, but the meddling executives would. Hopefully now that they've seen the game's ability to make $1 billion in 3 months, they'll give the devs the time and creative control they need to make a stellar sequel.
It annoys me how the NPCs would only turn their heads when they talk to you. You move and they keep turning their heads to follow you, but not their bodies, gosh it looks so awkward, weird and unnatural.
It's interesting to see the game already having all these features for a companion system, but ultimately no companion system outside of storyline quests. Makes you think how much more interesting the companion system would be if the devs actually had a chance to properly flesh it out.

ok this would be so cool! including having a special wolf like companion you can customize to what it would look like plus special customization to buff up companions and the wolf :)

He is the only good character in the game in my opinion. The other ones are all 100% positive, 100% boring 2023 zoomers. I wanna play with bad guys and anti heroes not these wholesome losers like Poppy, Natty and Amit.

i've just finished every quest in the game and not once do you do a quest with Sebastian where you fight poachers. i can't even remember coming across ashwinders with him.

@@MeltsWizards no, I tried it and the companion leaves on its own. =D Then returns after the mission. You do have to disable the companion if its the companion that gives the quest. Or the NPC dont show up

Since it says almost every NPC does that apply to Ominis as well or just NPC like Sebastian who have specific Quest for them?

Almost all of, if not most, of the more prominent NPCs are in the companion mod! (Even students like Adelaide, Everett, and Imelda are in it!) Professors and other NPCS such as Officer Singer, Lodgok, Solomon Sallow, as well as the elves and poltergeists are in there too! Although it’s only some of them that have quest specific lines or any voicelines at all if you take them as a companion.

I would rather take Poppy with me. xD Maybe they made a half done game for a reason. They might thought it's gonna be a big enough game, so some feature can be left to the sequel? I hope that's the case and a sequel comes and it will be even better than this. It could pretty much compete with GTA games.
I definitely agree I seriously hope there is a sequel and more expansion on Seb's quest line. There was so much just cut off. I mean both bad guys taken down in two quests?! I thought i had half the game left tbh...

Hmm, I wonder how a mod with Garreth Weasley as a companion would look like.
The companion mod also allows you to take Garreth, actually! For the most part, he’s actually really quiet except for when he’s attacked or casting spells. Doesn’t seem like they had any voicelines recorded for anything outside of that 😢 (Which is weird because even Everett has way more lines as a companion than Garreth 😭)

You lost so much by not modding your games. Just backup your savefiles once in a while if you're afraid of the mod corrupting your game.
This mod just involves editing your save file using a save file editor and then dragging and dropping a folder into your game directory.
Just backup/make copies of your original save files and you should be fine.

What about if you do side quests?
He'll come along with you while you're doing side quests, just make sure they're not his own quest or things will get buggy. I heard he also comments on certain side quests, though I haven't tried it myself.
I tried this thing out yesterday and was able to do one side quest with him (spider one with Mary from Aranshire I believe?) and having done that quest on my own before, I can say he says lines very similar or the same as your character says normally but I still loved that anyway.
I did the ghost of our love side quest with him and he spoke the entire time, it's a short quest but the interactions were really cool!

You need to either install a mod called any time companion or edit your save files "current companion" line

@@gengarjr it's "LastSetCompanion", have to make sure it's not a current quest companion it gets buggy and doesn't work the same.
It’s quite frustrating to know that the original script files and game contained companionships and in general much more. It’s obvious that releasing this game was rushed. It’s a brilliant game but it would of been great to see gameplay with your favourite characters.

Because he does watch a memory of hers with you in a cutscene. But doesn’t join for the actual black n white trial.
@@RedCaio The memory you're talking about is after you find a piece of the Tryptich. That's the one he joins you for. He can actually join you for Niamh's though if you have him out with the companions mod and you start the Black and White one in the headmaster's office.
