The ocean liner Queen Mary was named after this lady. The plan was that the liner being built was to be called Victoria but royal permission had to be given for using the name of a member of the royal family. The director (?) of the Cunard-White Star Line was shooting grouse with the King and asked him for permission to name the new ocean liner after England's greatest queen. The King said his wife would be delighted and that he would ask her the minute he got home! It was thought to be an apocryphal/urban legend story but later turned out to be true! I don't know if this is also true but I've read that the R.M.S. Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mary's running mate (but not sister ship) was to have been called the King George.
She was almost a mideval queen, austire and devoted to duty. Very admirable.

She had quite a presence. Her noble bearing and striking beauty are enchanting. When viewing Mary in her youth or maturity, my eyes become captive and contemplative. I've read that she was highly intelligent. Your music was profound and unusual --- a perfect fit for a woman like Mary. With her personality and appearance, she would have been "royal" even if no crown ever graced her head.

I don't know much about Queen Mary but she must have been a strong woman: she had an epileptic child when that condition was a stigma; I believe that two of her sons died before her; she deal with the illness and death of her husband; as I understand it, she was very concerned about the lifestyle of her son David who then abdicated the throne and married a woman who was considered to be totally inappropriate, to put it mildly. How many wars was in England in during her time? Did the Queen have any privacy?---On a lighter note, I'm an ocean liner enthusiast and though the Queen Mary was named for her, Queen Mary didn't really like the ship. I read that in her diary she made a notation about how she christened the liners and she wrote "Too bad it rained".
Three of her sons died before her: John (the one with epilepsy), George (Duke of Kent) and Bertie (King George VI).

She looked so much like her grand daughter Queen Elizabeth 2, oh man she had so many kids, her love life must have been good lol. The way she looked was very classy and the clothes very lovely. Towards the end the comparison is astonishing her sitting next to her grand daughter Queen Elizabeth 2 and her great grand child and the current queens mother.
Queen Mary has strong genes. Princess Charlotte bears a strong resemblance to her great-great-great- grandmother.
I think Princess Charlotte looks more like the queen mother when she was little than Mary of Teck. 🙂

Sorry, but there was no such person as Queen Mary of Teck. She was Princess of Teck through her father, but Queen Consort of the United Kingdom.

Just thinking that, and the children.... social services should have got involved. However didn't Queen Mary say look at the ceiling and think of England don't think her sex life was very rewarding, she probably far preferred her first royal fiance.

Actually, she smiled quite a lot and had a wonderful smile. It's just that, at that time in history, it wasn't considered "royal" for family members to smile when being photographed.

Not sure what history you've been reading but that doesn't really turn out to be the case. The first fiance was the one that was an arrangement of convenience - Prince Albert Victor (called Eddy) was a total loser and his family were trying to marry him to someone stable to prop him up. That would have been a disastrous marriage for someone as intelligent as Mary. The best thing Eddy did for the monarchy was to die. By contrast Mary and George actually turned out to be a love match from all the evidence in their private correspondence. They did suffer from the emotional constraints common at the time but there is not doubt about their devotion and love for one another.

She was never Queen Mary of Teck. She was HM Queen Mary. She was HSH Princess Mary of Teck before she was married.and hen became HRH the Duchess of York, and so on after that.
Lady Louise Windsor, the granddaughter of the present Queen Elizabeth, looks exactly like the late Queen Mary.
Queen Mary was a pretty young girl.. Only in older age did she lose her prettiness, and look hard..
Lady Loise Windsor looks like Mary but at 2:07 her daughter looks like her exact twin.

Back in the day those poor women suffered under ghastly restricting corsets to satisfy fashion. Even in tropical climes such as India. Also must have been miserable under those thick fur robes.

No such title as "Queen Mary of Teck". Her title before she married George, Duke of York was Princess Mary of Teck (her father was Prince Francis of Teck, a subsidiary title of the Wurttemburg royal family) . When she married she became the Duchess of York and when her husband became George V, she took the title Queen Consort of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions; Empress Consort of India.

Donald Grant to be fair though, British Queen Consorts tend to be acknowledged by the public by their maiden names/titles, for example Kate Middleton, Anne Boleyn, Margaret of Anjou, Elizabeth Woodville e.t.c, although it was much more prominent and acceptable in medieval times. But yes I do agree with you, and the fact that "Queen ____ of Teck" isn't a title at all

Worth reading the Book ' In search of Queen Mary ' written by James Pope - Hennessy in the 1970's , banned from publication until recently . Queen Mary was a very complicated Lady , strong , brave , cowed by her Husband the late King George V , and extremely avaricious , she was an Eccentric , but chosen by the Late Queen Victoria , Empress of India 1837-1901 to be the 'brood mare ' to carry on the Dynasty, which still exists until our Present Queen passes to a higher place . The Book is very entertaining , funny . Our Queen bares an amazing resemblance to Queen Mary - Her Grandmother . They don't make them like Queen Mary anymore …….but on the other hand the genes live on in the Queen , and dare I say even more so in the Princess Royal ( all very strong women ) .
