- When John Active was a little boy growing up in Bethel he used to listen to stories around his grandmother's table. Growing up with no TV or radio, Active, now 65, would sit there and listen as his grandmother, Maggie Lind, and other elders would entertain each other for hours with stories of the supernatural.

I would love it if other storytellers made videos to share their stories. Its so important to save these wonderful peoples stories! Thank you, sir.
Some stories, like songs are exclusively for the tribal members and need permission from village elders to be passed on. And when permission is given, it’s usually shared more intimately than posting on the internet
Just from watching this one video, this man is a national treasure!
Quyana, I love stopping and listening to stories from our elders.
None of the men in our family ever come to the table without a shirt. It is respect. They never walk around without a shirt on period! It’s respect.
I never wear a shirt. As a confident well built man my bulging muscles give inspiration to those weaker than me, who could only dream of achieving the commitment & joy I receive on a daily basis. The respect being shirtless commands is a big highlight to my life. I love that my family isn't judgmental a-holes like your family is. Women get so weak in the knees they can hardly speak lose all control something takes over them when I flex the pecks.

Man, that's either pitiful... or I'm missing next level satire.
Anyway, the abbreviation of 'pectorals' is spelled 'pecs'. (Since it's apparently critical to your psychological foundation, thought you might want to know.)
Thank you John Active Yup'ik as the spirit in man has a good story for the people I will remember this as thank you all the best.
I will always stop & listen to the elders & their stories . Thank you god bless
Everyone: listening to his story*
Me: doing my native dances because the back off my brain is telling me too*
@Damari Kylan ok then
@Byron Mustafa ok

John Active Was The Best Yupik Story Teller Ever John Was Telling The Best On The True Yupik Story Quyana Cakneq John Active RIP John.
Rip John.

Quyana John for storytelling for us RIP john
RIP John Active
This would make a great horror short. It would be terrifying if the young Yupik dropped the food and went to retrieve and his grandma stops him and tells him never to do that and why, and then he looks back down at the food on the floor and sees it’s still where he dropped it and then he lifts the tablecloth to look under the table and there’s nothing there.
He resumes eating with a skeptical
expression aimed at his elder, and then suddenly feels a slight shift and hears the sound a wooden chair leg makes when it is moved with weight on it. He looks back down just in time to see the grey hairy hand over his dropped food as it and a long arm retreats back Under His Chair!
Great video- thanks for sharing! Reminds me of stories my Pépére told us kids at dusk/ night.
Background music is way too loud...
background musics too loud
The food suddenly dropping on the floor is something my old folks had a saying about, but in my own experience, the food I was about to eat dropped on the floor, and when I stooped to pick it up, I couldn’t find that piece of food anywhere.
😅🤣😂
Thank You for the Story. 🙏🏻
I loved it. I made quite a number of friends in Alaska when there for a Native American/AK Native internship. I always check back in to the state's community online. Thank you for sharing this.
The little people.. Us and the big people. All 3 are still present
Do you listen to Fred from “ Subarctic Sasquatch Alaska “? Brilliant story teller of the hairy man.
Could you make the music a little louder and the guy a little quieter? I can still hear him over the music.
In Nevada, my elders told me not to be loud and to be respectful at meal times also..
I've been in a bad way..one night camping the light from a lake Shack shown on the tent,a cat walked across the picnic table and turned to a raccoon and hissed at us..my x girlfriend went out of the tent and screamed an got back in,she had see a man beside the tent who drifted away..when explained what he looked like I could see vivid in my mind his appearance..3 days I seen him walking down the street. Then a fox started to appear in the back yard.
yep shapeshifter. they are everywhere. be careful- some are doctors, friends, family, officers
Could be Sasquatch related too.
This was interesting, I'm full native American, half crow & half Navajo, and I never heard of this saying. Btw, TURN THE MUSIC DOWN I COULDN'T HEAR THE STORY!!! 😤
I'm Qawiaraq Inupiat and we had some scary stories too! I wonder if he's ever heard of the green lady
My Favorite
Never heard that before, very interesting.
Great story. Well presented.
Sorry, I couldn't get through the first minute because of the music. I'm sure it was a great story. 😔
He make me scared now I don’t wanna eat😂
My Elders taught me to keep music low when someone's speaking lololol, I'm just teasing
Shamans have great stories
Yes
Background music too loud can hardlly hear what he is saying
Good story, thank you!
The devil believes in God but trembles, because he knows that God is the all powerful being that has mercy of us humans
Please share the Love of the Son of God, He spoke Truth Forever. Please write His Words in your Heart, and share them. Please Forgive, and Pray for everyone. Immanuel, God with us...
Music was distracting... Hard to follow the story
Dudes face was distracting
XD those are drums
That’s our culture try to be more respectful asshole
You are everyone's Grampa. Like we say on rez. 🤣 GOOD STORY!
Like the story but the music is way too loud!!
That's a very well made video. Thank you.
Rip.
Maybe it was Jeepers Creepers trying to get a quick bite to eat 😜
I wish that noise wesent so god damn loud in the background I'm trying to hear his story!??
Stop the background music! Arghh!
Karen has cramps today.
Music not necessary!
The music made me comment about it and close the app annoying asf to hear while listening to a story
Not to mention the many Sasquatch encounters.....
My mom tells me that our family before us, they eat the food that accidently fell.
Lower the damn music, who’s more important the chanting or the man??? Horrible editing
Vincenzo Vieri actually the chanting is traditional for story telling and the chanting is part of the traditional dances I know this because i am Yupik.

Sounds like a very smart lady who got a kid who didn’t want to wear a shirt, to put a shirt on! Lol
Can't hear the story w ppl yelling
This man looks like a ghost story
Could have done with the narration sans the background audio. Manipulation of context. Just let a man speak. When you ask a white man to tell a story from his family do you play Celtic bard music? When you interview a black man do you play J.P. Hooker in the background? This is why I'm conservative, conserve equal respect.
The sound in the background is so annoying and distracting i can barely understand anything.
Making sure his ancestors "hand" is not there, the lady making him scared of "his own". on a side note why are his pupils so large? I mean it might be a dark room although i don't think even that would cause pupils to be that large
He has black iris's, as nearly all Yuks do
Drugs lots of dem
@@r.i.promance7467 I bet you had lots of them meth baby
I love native American people, as a Christian I feel sad for them that they have had such a unhappy history, but I believe that's because they did not let go of their pagan ways, in witchcraft beliefs and practices, those things have kept them cursed for generations. If they only would embrace Jesus Christ as Lord they could free themselves from their generational curses.
Christian white people can't figure out how to be happy with Christianity. Out people suffered due to mistreatment, not a lack of Jesus. Very callous considering all of the evil done by Christians.
Seriously? You must be immeasurably blind to the social climate of the world around you or just plain stupid. I respect others' ideas and values but to say that native peoples suffered because they had their own practices and faith and would not conform to yours is incredibly stupid. You nor I have any clue the true extent of the suffering those poor people went through by people who thought exactly like you do.
@Isnortborax
Excellent post. Though I've known evangelicals all my life, their hubris can still be utterly breathtaking at times.
Fwiw, I had an NDE at 19. It was garden variety, as they go: simply a 'tsunami' 😊 of unconditional love - a God without favorites. Millions of other NDEs bear testament to the same thing.
Since I was born/raised in the deep south, now I find religion as a water droplet compared to the ocean of spirituality. To be sure, I've known beautiful people of great faith. They tend not to be the ones who wear the t-shirts. 😎
Paz y luz ✨️ to everyone... from the ♥️
The story and the background din should be separated...
That's the #Jinn
I still don't understand how the shirt factors in. Is it going to keep your food from hitting the floor? Or is it so disrespectful as to call forth spectral, scaly hands?
If any of you local Alaskan people would love to listen to a brilliant story teller of true encounters people share with him, then may I humbly suggest a native man born and bred in Alaska, his name is Fred and his channel is called “ Subarctic Sasquatch Alaska”.
Lol I’d be more concerned with these hairy Beings over ghost stories.
Dogedinh (thank you) for sharing.
LOL, tell more!
He's dead
They did something to his face?
hello
N 'No, he's n eldr n not on drugs
Eh that's debatable
This man has a very interesting face.
I am an Eskimo. N apparently that's wut we look like miss ma'am r Sir
Your "gods" have no power here. Nature is the true "god"
Oppose and pray against these evil spirits! These demons don’t have any rights unless people obey them but if we’re following Jesus they have to flee in Jesus’ name. Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords these demons are under His feet.
Satan use to be the most gorgeous angel there was but desobeyed God by feeling he was God in other words he had pride and some angels adored him but he and the others we’re banished forever from the 3rd heaven, and now he’s dragging tons and tons of people to hell by death. The lake of fire 🔥 is waiting for sooo many souls to get in, to suffer forever with worms that never die
Asigaqa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😎😎😎😎😂😂😂kk
i eat chips without a shirt and if i drop one , my dog will eat it, im safe sir.
it's junk food lol
The music is too loud. I can’t hear him
