Yes - I was facing the other way as he did it, and if it weren't for the context I wouldn't have known it wasn't Stewart. And he's kept it up to date with Stewart's aged voice, too!
Quick correction - Diana Muldaur is still ALIVE and well - my bad! Daniel Davis is a guest I've long wanted to have on this show, and glad I got to chat with him for a bit. Do you want to see a full interview with Moriarty? Let me know what you thought about his return in Picard, and if you want a bigger interview with Mr. Davis!
Diana Muldaur is now 84 years young and she works very hard for a animal shelter. Thanks for the great interview. I hope Daniel knows that Diana is still alive!!
Til this moment, I had no idea he wasn't English. Amazing. Just speaks to his performance. What an amazing guy. And it's heartwarming to see he, and others of the cast, are feeling so very much like the rest of us seeing this new season. I hope anyone enjoying the show as much as I've been, will take the time to write a review on Amazon, IMDB, and Rotten Tomatoes. I'm hoping the heads ant Paramount realize Matalas is our guy and hand him the keys and give us more.
There's story from his time on "The Nanny" with Charles Shaughnessy, who is an actual British baron. People thought Shaughnessy was faking his accent and told him to just listen to Davis to pick it up from a native.
I’m really disappointed Davis didn’t have a scene with Stewart. The two had great chemistry on the series. It would’ve been great to have a true closure scene between Picard and Moriarty similar to what Picard had with Ro. Oh and Davis got caught in a fib. He said he talked with Diana Muldaur about L.A. Law killing off her character. But Muldaur didn’t join that show until after Star Trek.
honestly i kind of wish he was more the villian then vadic was. and that she was working for him rather then her being a changling taking orders from skelitor lol.
What a lovely man! And what a fantastic Moriarty! Such a shame we didn't get more of him on-screen - Would so love to see a resolution between him and Picard.
Terrific interview! I really wished Moriarty could be featured more but it was still so good to see him again. Davis completely retained his feel after so many years
I love that he adores his role. Definitely got to get him a mobile emitter. I was hoping that this new version of Data would hook into the Titan and use some internal Holo Emitters to unleash this "villain" Moriarty on some intruders. I always imagined that Barclay has his hollow cube, and saved it after Riker Hot-Dropped the saucer section that one time. 🖖
I love how he so clearly knows the episodes he starred in and his role! I think it is awesome that a character such as Professor Moriarty can be so memorable through only two initial episodes. After hearing Mr. David's idea, I do agree that it would have been really nice for Professor Moriarty to leave the holodeck using the technology used by Voyager's Doctor. However, I do understand that it may not have worked in the scope of the season. Perhaps one day...
He is the most talented actor he can do comedy and drama he's really brilliant I wish he was in more movies and shows he's great in every role he had a small part in Hunt for Red October on the aircraft carrier and he was really good in that small part.
OMG He just did a perfect impression of Sir Patrick Stewart that is great!!!! That would be cool if they made a series of his character the story is there
Since Synthetics are now a thing, and they were able to transfer Data and even Picard, and Data has Soong in him as well, so he HAS the knowledge on how to create one, so he’s uniquely able to keep Picard’s promise. A synthetic body is about as close to being a “real boy” as he’s ever going to get!
This Moriarty character is more than just a villain from the books, he was created by the ships computer to outsmart Data and is so much more. If put into a mobile emitter he wouldn't necessarily be a bad guy as shown by how he evolved in "ship in a bottle". Glad to see him getting some air time again, it's long overdue and I'd like to see his character finally released from the portable device they left him in.
When Moriarity appeared on the trailer I was one of those who jumped up and cheered and was completely ecstatic at seeing him again. Mr. Davis is an exceptional actor and from interviews I've seen, by all appearances a truly wonderful person. I would love to sit and hear his stories. He seems like a really great guy. I loved his episodes in TNG and of course the Picard cameo. I'll watch anything Mr. Davis does. I would also love for him to write a book. What a great read that would be, be it a memoir or a comedy book. He'd be great at both! And the answer to whatever happened to Moriarity and Regina is answered in the TNG novels!! He's still around!!!
Fantastic how they wove Moriarty into the story. This scene has all the ingredients of genius: Great actor coupled with excellent writing and directing. I re-watched the scene a couple of times. I finally saw the slight smile on Moriarty's face as Riker puts the clues together. For a few, wonderful moments, I was transported back to being a teen watching TNG in my parent's house. Thank You Daniel Davis for transporting me back home, since the my parents have passed away. Thanks for leaving your home during Covid to do this cameo.
Great interview, would love to see Geordi, Data & Moriarty back on the Holodeck. Also remember him as Captain Davenport the commander of the USS Enterprise in The Hunt For Red October.
I'm such a big fan of him as Niles in the nanny, would love to interview him as well - no idea how to reach out to the man though :") This interview however was wonderful and as a new Trekkie I can't wait to see him appear! :-)
Saw this episode. DD was by a long way the best part. Having only seen DD playing young 'nice' characters on film. But in this part he brought a sinister menace. Superb. Hope to see more.
One thing I would have liked to see with Moriarty, is Daystrom reverse engineering The Doctor's portable Holo emitter, and loading Moriarty and his wife into portable emitters, firstly apologising for the deception of the storage cube, but then going on to being, we came good on the promise, you are free from the holodeck and in the real world now. I'm sure Moriarty would be initially angry about the deception, but at the same time, he's smart enough to understand why it was done, and to then see that they did live up to the promise of freeing him. I could then also see him being given a job at Daystrom Station. This is pretty much what went through my mind when I heard "Daystrom Station is run by an advanced AI"
He gave the character of Moriarty a believable and a bit heart-breaking redemptive story. Rare for a character that was a villian...shades of the Horta in Devil in the Dark
Always loved his performance in TNG and it was a genuine pleasure to see him in Picard, although his scene was far too short. It seems all the beloved characters from the past like Ro, Moriarty and Shelby were given far too little time. I would loved to have seen Ro help fight the changeling and Shelby help fight the borg.
I was happy for him to get a spot on the show, also because he does wonderful Cameo clips for fans as the character of Moriarty (like once for the birthday of a lawyer in which he asks him to file a lawsuit against Picard).
What a fun, free conversation... First time I saw a guest apply lip balm during an interview. Minor nitpick tho: Daniel Davis must be misremembering his talks with Diana Muldaur... Elementary Dear Data aired in 1988, and she fell down that elevator shaft on LA Law in 1991. I guess hearing of her alleged death rattled him a bit.
not going to lie but the problem is i feel like the trailer really made it seem like he was going to a big part of the show when really it was just a cameo. like i wish they had actually done something with his character and actually had him return.
Awesome. Daniel Davis is a fellow Arkansan. And like Mr. Davis, I got out of Arkansas as quickly as I could. 😂 Seriously, though. Once I heard Moriarty was gonna be in Season 3, I was hoping for more than the few seconds we got.
Got to say I for one was disappointed with his' return'. I have always had the opinion that Moriarty, who was created to outsmart Data, was simply too intelligent to not eventually realize that he was in a simulation, and would figure out some way to escape. With the return of Voyager, and the Federation looking at the idea of 'Human Rights' for 'Holographic Beings' (which are still just A.I.s using a 'Hologram' as a body, but whatever......) that they would decide to let Moriarty free, maybe with some restrictions, as he was created to be a criminal mastermind. Still, even in this cameo, it was nice to see Mr. Davis in the role once again 😄
Well, if I may disagree, I take exception to your point about nostalgia. If you remove the nostalgia and the character development that was done in other series, then there is barely anything left at all. The great job of acting that Stewart did with Michelle Forbes, is only dramatic because another series developed their relationship. Nor did this episode show us anything to explain why the two reconciled. Mostly it was really a repetition of the debate they had so many years ago. The idea that Riker would lose his son, that Raffi's husband would not help her because of their son, that Crusher would hide her son from Picard is repetitive, shown to us all in exposition, and all inconsistent with what we know about these characters. The idea that every character has backstory trauma told in exposition is nothing but the way that soap operas have been written for 50 years. This is a soap opera in space. Not only were these scenes the only instance of character development by science fiction, it was done in a completely repetitive manner. This is not to mention just basic things like cinematography, direction, fast cutting, lens flares, flashing lights - all the bad decisions that we have seen in Discovery. But there can be no greater sin in new Star Trek than to think that the Federation is an evil place that tortures people, that we have to imagine that they can chase down your family as Geordi says. That they would hire a Captain that would make Seven want to quit the Federation. It is this dark, dismal, dystopian view of the Federation that I thought was the reason why we criticized the previous versions of Star Trek Picard and Discovery. You are obviously a fan of TNG. You wear the uniform. But don't we like TNG for the stories that it told? Aren't we glad that Roddenberry, Coon, Fontana, Bernham, Piller did not do nostalgia? We did not want to see nostalgia based on Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon, did we? Didn't we come for the science fiction? Didn't we want to see how the science fiction affected the characters? Didn't we ask what is the meaning of life? What is slavery? Where is anything like that here? It is not here. This is a Nostalgic soap opera.
I honestly didn't realise Daniel Davis was American!? As a Brit, his English accent is perfect...
Right? It's bizarre and amazing!
Daniel Davis plays an awesome Moriarty! He is a great actor, storyteller, and just a loveable entertainer. I hope we see much more of him ❣️
One of the BEST Star Trek TNG characters EVER!!!!!!
Daniel Davis is awesome in his range, from “The Nanny” to “Hunt for Red October”.
Ditto! ❤
Man, imagine if they could literally get Niles the Butler as a hologram bartender or something just spewing out snide remarks at the crew.
wow! his impression of PStewart is stunningly spot on
It really was wildly accurate, wasn't it?
Agree - he might be asked to do that impression on future conventions :D
His English accent as Moriarty, Niles, and, now, Patrick Stewart, isn't very different from his normal voice.
time index 11:20 for anyone curious. And YES, a very uncanny voice he has of TNG-era Picard.
Yes - I was facing the other way as he did it, and if it weren't for the context I wouldn't have known it wasn't Stewart. And he's kept it up to date with Stewart's aged voice, too!

Yes I’d love a more extensive interview ❤
Yes, please, I want a longer interview with him!
Ms Muldaur is alive apart from having fallen down an elevator shaft in LA Law as Daniel pointed out! Haha
Yes, more interview, please. As we are both from Arkansas, I'd like to hear him talk about his upbringing in Arkansas.
Do you really? 11:35? If it wasn't for Terry Matalas
Am I the only one who thinks this man does not seem 77??? I was thrilled to pieces to see he would be back. Great performance.
Wow..Moriarty!!! I remember him on Star Trek. He hasnt aged...he looks great! I Defff have to see this long awaited sequel
Moriarty is timeless, and so is Daniel Davis!
@@TrekUntold hes a great actor. This upload was news to me!
11:20 Holy sh...! He does a perfect Patrick Stewart impression! :o)
British people have a knack for imitating each other 😅

Wow Mandela Effect. I could have swore she died like 5-6 year ago! Thanks for saying this.
@@Arthezius You may be thinking of Diana Rigg, who most recently played Olenna Tyrell in Game of Thrones. She passed away in 2020.

There is a spectrum to Americans doing British accents. Dick Van Dyke (bad) to Daniel Davis 2:33 (great).
So wonderful to see you express such joyous enthusiasm. Thank you for sharing your joy and creativity.
Terrific interview - thank you. Daniel Davis is such a fine actor.

Great interview, well done!
What a gem of a guy!! Love Daniel Davis. So good to see his brief return in Picard!
Well done!
Easily one of the best interviews I've seen in awhile. You really know when to sit back and just let your guest talk. Bravo.
I was SO happy and surprised to see Mr. Davis on Picard! That was a very fun treat!

Yeah I think all that stuff with Moriarty was Data testing to make sure Riker was Riker and not a changeling.
