You showed it both ways in the video, but in general for bulkhead connectors with a single gasket you would put the gasket on the bulkhead side rather than the nut side. That way when you're tightening the nut, the gasket is getting compressed but not subjected to the shear (twisting) of the nut directly against it.

It doesn't matter as much which direction you install it but which side the gasket is on does matter. It should be installed with the gasket (washer) on the fixed side of the device, partially because installing it on the nut side will tend to force or roll the gasket out (just like wire on a screw terminal) but more so because water (or whatever) can seep around straight threads and it will probably leak!!!
No mentions it in these videos but PVC bulkheads come in many flavors (types - configurations). 4 main ones are threaded (inside) from both sides, threaded from either end or solvent welded from both ends. Another thing to mention is that bulkheads ":should" be sized by the pipe size that fits to it and not the OD of the body screw. FYI pipe is sized by it's nominal ID so a 2" pipe (plastic or metal) has an OD of approximately 2.375" regardless of schedule.

And water will seep through the threads. Thanks for confirming my thoughts on this.

Seems that most places like to mark up the price of bulkhead fittings... any tips or suggestions for good supply sources?

enjoyed the video. for a WMO recycling project I want to install a brass bulkhead into a barrel so I can control the draining from the bottom. I figure the brass will hold up better than plastic. it comes with a washer but will it seal better if I use something like JB Weld on it? or is it unnecessary? I'm concerned about the effect of petroleum on the bulkhead and seal. thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Debris have accumulated around the bulkhead fitting inside the steel water tank. I was removing the bulkhead from outside but the fitting was sliding along. How hold inside part from rotating with the outside part of the fitting. The fitting is at the bottom of tall water tank.

I would like to know how to install a bulkhead into a water tank that I can't get into to put on the gasket and nut. There isn't a hole large enough to get my hands into the tank.

Yes this can be tricky but really it comes down to cutting a hole bigger to fit your hands or enlisting the help of someone with small hands, maybe even a child to help. Good luck with your system!

5:28 I thought the gasket should go on the inside, where the water is?

I read the gasket should go on the flange because if the gasket is on the nut then water will leak through the threads.
