    I LOVE videos on older gear! I’m a sucker for it at yard sales as well.
    I still like to sew on patches after a new trail or even camping at a new state park. It’s a great way to remember a good outing.
    Thanks for sharing Bob. Keep those vintage/surplus gear videos coming.

      I agree with you on the older gear. A lot of it was made better than the new stuff. Except for this pack. The straps were terrible. Lol I do have an old boy scout canvas back somewhere. If I find it I'll do a video on it

    wow that's going back in time, Boy Scouts for me was 1966-70 and I went into Ventures for 1 year but since I started High School other interests took over 😉 have no idea what ever happened to my old backpack

      I know what you mean by other interests taking over. Such as fast cars and women...😉.... same thing happened to me. Honestly I forgot all about this pack. Until I was cleaning out the garage and I found it. Can you imagine my surprise. Yep I was very happy. So many memories..

    What an awesome collection of pictures in this video. I'm guessing you and I were both in the Boy Scouts around the same time. Our troop Here in Dallas went to Philmont in June of 1988. I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout that same year. I see you got to climb to the top of Baldy. What an experience at 12,000 feet! Those Tooth Of Time Photos bring back some not so good memories of getting struck by lightning on Tooth Ridge on our last day.
    I have been following your channel for years. Your skills and the way you work in the outdoors has always seemed very familiar to me and now it makes sense. You and I both grew up in Scouting learning the same ways of the outdoors at an early age.
    Keep up the good work and don't change. Be Prepared.

      Thanks brother. I'm glad I decided to bring a camera with me to philmont. Yes I do believe we're in The Scouting program at the same time... I still have the old map I carried. I'll have to check and see how many miles we logged in. So many memories were made on that outing. For instance hiking through the burnt forest. For some reason it rained there every day at 5:00 for about an hour then quit. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.. definitely hiking through the clouds... luckily no close call with lightning strikes... but our guide did warn it was a possibility. what to do if you hear stood up on your your arms.
      Thanks so much for being a friend of the channel I really do appreciate it.
      Yes I try to be prepared. I'm not going to change...

      Hey guess what brother. We are the same age. How cool is that :-) oh I do remember sure as well. They had an entire section dedicated to scouting. From uniforms all the way to cooking equipment. I used to look forward to going there when I was a kid. I bet I have the old canvas pack laying around somewhere. I need to look for it. Hey on the side note I made a video about the tactical lunch box for you :-)

    I never owned a backpack until I started getting interested in the bushcraft and primitive camping communities online about a dozen years ago. The first pack I picked up was a bright orange boy scout pack at a 2nd hand store. First thing I did was spray paint it camo !!!! Orange ain't stealthy !!!! I'm not sure I ever actually used it as I bought a couple other packs and preferred a soft pack rather than a rigid frame one.

    • @Bob808Knight
      @Bob808Knight 9 місяців тому +1

      Oh yeah orange is not stealthy at all. I tried to stay with Earth Tone colors. And of course changing from season to season.. I do like the soft packs. They move with your body especially when you're doing elevation. An external frame pack does not do that trust me. I've tried. LOL
