My brother bought this album and played in incessantly for weeks after he got home from school and on weekends. And I still love it. Miss my brother.. think I'll give him a call.

The end of an era. Lee Dorman passed away today at the age of 70. One of the finest bass guitarists of our generation, gone. And the world is a heck of a lot poorer without him.

I so love this song. Right after this song came out, a bunch of my friends & I used to go hang out at some of the oil pumps in the Pasadena area, crank up the volume on the car radios & the reverberater & listen to the long version of this song. It was like being in heaven. The fact that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song really surprised my niece the other day who was actually born the year this song came out. Still blows my mind 44 years later. This "olelady" still has some surprises left.

Love this. Back in 1994, my 5th grade year, my mother introduced me to this. We started out watching a Santana concert on PBS, I loved it, and she ended up spending the rest of the night introducing me to her old records. I latched onto this one, stole it from her, and listened to it over and over and over again that entire summer, multiple times a day, slung over a burnt orange director's chair in my grandparent's den. Good times, good memories. Thanks for posting this.

One of the all-time greats, all right. I almost like it better now, after all these years then when it first came out! Probably because of it's solid originality so sharply contrasts with what we are being offered today. Thanks.

I actually prefer this because the instruments aren't hard-panned (or at least they would be if it weren't for vinyl's limitations) so you get a much stronger sound indicative of Iron Butterfly's live sound and something like what the original track sounded before Shadow Morton had the genius fuckin' idea to hard-pan the drums and keys while turning down the bass.
This song is amazing when it goes in the red.

Ive this an ungodly amount of times. My dad used to play it in the car when I weas a kid and it's stayed with me for life. Admittedly some parts are a little stronger than others... but it's excellent overall and gives me goosebumps at times. An extremely good song in its entirety. Love it. Got right back into when I found the tape dad used to play... it was in late 2000 and in 2001 i remember listenning to certain parts before school. No one else my age likes it... but at least I do.

Legend has it that with long songs like "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin or "Taxi" by Harry Chapin, it meant the DJ was in the bathroom or taking a cigarette break. With a song like this, the DJ was probably taking a nice long nap.

First time I heard this song I was 9 years old, and my older brother got the record for Christmas, along with Black Sabbath's Ironman. God, they don't make music like that anymore, do they? So so long ago- yet it is still incredibly powerful. Played this in a "black light poster" bedroom with a lava lamp.

Never heard the complete, unedited, uninterrupted version of this song until now...and I'm very glad I did. Nothing better visually than the hypnotic rotating of the vinyl record on the turntable -- this is *the* way to experience this song! Yes, this song has its critics, and I admit it is rather simplistic, but sometimes there is a beauty & value in simplicity than shines through in this over-complicated world we live in. Thank you very much for putting this together!

Trivia: Iron Butterfly were booked to play Woodstock but got stuck at the airport. Their manager called the promoters and demanded a helicopter and that they be put on stage and paid "immediately", then returned home "immediately". The promoters said they'd think it over. Drummer Ron Bushy: "We went down to the Port Authority three times and waited for the helicopter, but it never showed up." And the rest is history ....

@727JeffN Thanks for the speedy reply! I did not know of WTAC 600 am. Thanks for the info! You telling me about WTAC is like finding another "earth-like" planet out in the galaxy when all you know about is "Earth"! I wonder if WTAC playlists from the 60's are up on the internet? I am amassing a list of songs I remember and really liked by poring through old radio playlists. Most songs I did not know the words, title or artist. I am finding them by listening to unknown songs at random.

Thank you for posting this Classic in its entirety!!! Great quality! Your record must be in mint condition! Just wanted you to know that radio station WYND in Sarasota, Florida USA regularly played this COMPLETE song, FROM START TO FINISH, on their Saturday midday "Underground" program that they aired way back in 1968. Does anyone remember that radio station? I miss those days and I miss WYND.

Never was a big fan of Ozzie Osbourne, so I didn't pay much attention to Black Sabbath, but since that band was formed a year after Led Zeppelin, I'll still go with Led Zep.
