The biggest problem I have with situations like this is that the accuser *chooses* to stay and torture their partner with their baggage. It's cruel and unfair, and it feels like the accuser derives some kind of sick pleasure out of playing the prison warden. And you know it probably effects the children involved, too.
I, personally, would not stay with someone who is never going to stop with that behavior.
