Great video. And I loved the song, maybe because I also like butter beans. Anyway. You've convinced me that pocket holes would make it a good deal easier than traditional joinery. And the store-bought screen, a nice touch. Thank you.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHOWING ME HOW TO BUILD A SCREEN DOOR. GOING TO TRY AND MAKE TWO THIS WEEK. I HAVE MY FINGERS CROSSED THAT I CAN DO IT!!! NOTHING COMPARES TO A SCREEN DOOR AND THE SOUND IT MAKES WHEN IT SHUTS.
Loved this! Need a screen door for my chicken house and I was thinking of surprising my woodworker husband by making it myself. I am pretty comfortable with tools since I took wood shop in 7th and 8th grade back in the 80s but I lack common sense in the simple things such as your tip in placing the slat board perpendicular to the two side pieces to know overall width helping to know quickly the measurement needed for the slats!! So smart!! Thank you. Now, I just need to figure out where in the shop my hubby keeps that jig 🤣🤣
Thank you so much. I just watched a video where the guy had state of the art tools so I was glad you are a good and kind home boy. I didn't know you could add a screen already encased. I will have to figure out how to do that. Why can't I just use wood glue instead of chiseling holes and screws?
Looks great I like it, thank you But…..What if I can’t purchase a framed screen, I can get the screen just no “framed screen”? I was hoping you were going to show me. 😊
Love it! But since I don't have your fancy setups I will buy one. But you are a "master" carpenter! I love your door and will love to see more videos! You build like the hurricane-proof builders of old. :) An art that is dying with the passing of oldsters...
Thank you. Built two this weekend. One for the front door one for the back door. Measured, cut, laid out, squared and then temporarily fastened. Cut the plywood cleats to fit at the joints of stiles and rails, top, center and bottom. Glued, screwed. Painted. Laid screen over openings, stretched, stapled and covered with wood strips to finish. Hung, hinged. Spring closure. Handle of a branch from the cherry tree. A very funky, artsy screen door duo if I do say so myself. Thank you to all of the great screen door masters for your wonderful inspiration.
Thank you for this Sir! It really helped me build a much needed screen door. I have very little wood working skills as it is.... but this helped a lot! Does it matter what type woods you use?
Greetings sir, i so admire your skill which is a gift of God and i would like to ask what type of kreg screw is proper to join the wood frame is it the blue color screw or the other one? Thank u for posting ur diy which i intend to copy from you tc and God bless hope to hear from you
Max the Kraig screws are size, depending upon the thickness of the wood that you were using. so you’ll need to read the box to determine which screw is the proper length
Hey Dark Horse, thanks for stopping by. I saw that you made a camera mount for shooting videos, here is one I made, thought it would be of interest. ua-cam.com/video/wa1mQ7T4w18/v-deo.html I make a iphone mount for my tripod.

Couldn't you just cut the screen for the door then apply 3/4 round to attach? How would they have done it in the old days? But Hey, this would be a SIMPLE way to replace should the critters tear it up.
I’m actually wanting to know where he got this screen... I’ve built two screen doors and my main complaint is not being able to replace the screen easier when it gets wrecked ..

Thank you for making a screen door that is made out of 1x4's, so it's not heavy. Not sure where to find someone that builds screens, as phone books are an ancient relic anymore.
Good vid on building the door frame although I was surprised you used a pre-fabricated screen. I was waiting for you to break out the air powered staple gun, lol. I made my own screen windows for my enclosed deck with just a frame and metal screening stapled to the frame. I do like your door frame idea using the Kreg Jig as I have one as well. Thanks for sharing.
Cool. Going that route def saved some time. I already have enough left over aluminum screening to do it myself, it's pretty easy especially with a air upholstery staple gun. Love the door design and thanks for sharing. I just subbed, thanks.
Scott, mostly a matter of convenience, the shank of the drill bit is the hex drive and fits nicely into the impact driver so it’s easy to insert and remove.

My question is since there is a small gap under the door what kind of sweep do I use to keep the bugs from coming under the door. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Since I am just trying to stop the flying insects I do not have a sweep on the bottom of my door but you certainly could install one. whatever you feel would do the task.
For future questions; you may want to scroll the other comments to see if your question had been asked and answered. I try to answer as many of the relevant questions that I can, but you question was asked three times and I have the same answer.
Sure they can be on top. But my measurement of the door width is 1/4 inch less than the door frame, so adding on top of door would make it too wide. A snug fit is best to keep out the bugs.

Simple straight forward and entertaining for a diy video thanks for making this! And no crazy 1700 dollar tools need to be bought

Thank you too!
Thank you for this Sir! It really helped me build a much needed screen door. I have very little wood working skills as it is.... but this helped a lot! Does it matter what type woods you use?
You can use any type of wood except construction grade lumber. if you’re gonna use pine, buy straight clear grain it’ll prevent it from warping.
I love Butter Beans 😋
Can you do a video on that motorized table saw lift you made there? What a space saver!
I did, here it is, ua-cam.com/video/DSFXeBc1-tI/v-deo.html

I’m not sure what you’re asking
@@DIYHGP I’m sorry I meant do you a a video on how you build the wood sled your using on top of your table saw 🤣
Hi.. Great job , door looks solid.. did you buy the screen ready made.. one thing here in UK is that screen doors are rarely used .

I've got that Butterbeans song stuck in my head now.
😂 me too,😂
I enjoyed the video except...it would have been nice to see the full length of the finished project and a picture of it installed.
Yeah you’re right it would’ve been best to have a picture of it installed I’ll consider that next time. thanks for watching.
Great video What is the Wooden device the you are using to cut the wood on your table saw…any plans?
That’s a table saw sled. I have several of them. They’re easy to build. There are several people on UA-cam that show how to do it.

nice job, where did you get your screen?

Where'd u get the screen in a frame
Fantastic video, excellent demo and tips. I wanna use same technique to build a screen to divide large dinning area....

Great video thanks. Where did you buy the pre-made screen "panel"?
From a local shop just look up custom screens.
Can you do this with dowel rods instead of doing the pocket hole screw method? Would a mortise & tenon be as stable? I like your method. Great video!
Yes Dowel rods will work as well as mortise and tenon’s. they’re all joinery methods, I just picked the one that is easiest for me.

just google screens in your city, There is bound to be a shop that makes, made to order screens.
I watch at 2x speed, that song drove me nuts.

Where’d you get the pre-fab screen insert?

where did u get the premade screen?
I bought the screen locally from the screen manufacturing company
Did you put a knob or latch on the door?
Both the handle and the latch
Any reason you used an impact driver for your pocket holes? I use an impact for driving the screws in but never to drill the holes.
Scott, mostly a matter of convenience, the shank of the drill bit is the hex drive and fits nicely into the impact driver so it’s easy to insert and remove.

Pocket hole screws size depends on the thickness of your wood

Because of the cost to make it was about equal to the cost to buy it. I used a professional for the custom size I needed.
Good luck Sarita..👌
What are specs of your door frame?
Where did you buy the custom screen?
At a local screen shop
Damn song is stuck in my head.......
Butter Beans; it is a catchy tune
It reminds me of the song "Bramble Bush" from the movie "The Dirty Dozen".
Where did the framed screen come from?
Joe, I bought the frame as the cost was the same to make it.
Curious as to why the hinges have to be chiseled out ? Can't they just be screwed to the wood as is ?
Sure they can be on top. But my measurement of the door width is 1/4 inch less than the door frame, so adding on top of door would make it too wide. A snug fit is best to keep out the bugs.
got ya. just not to good at chiseling them things out lol.

whats the title of the background song?
Butter beans
great job and tunes
Sir what is the dimensio of ur wood for frame?
standard 1x4 pine
Thats looks awesome. What type of screw does the pocket hole jig use?
Scott, Kreg makes the pocket hole jig and screws, they have a special square drill head driver and screws to match.
Do you u gotta use Kreg screws ?
Yes you must use their screws, however they not very expensive. Pay attention to wood thickness, and the screw length 😀
I can’t seem to find this song any where can you send me a link please ???
