"Cucumber soup" is originally prepared from lactic-fermented pickled cucumbers. No vinegar - only naturally fermented cucumbers, no extra acid. This is important because many people think that these are the same cucumbers as those fermented in vinegar - no, and it will never be the same. Fermented food has been known and liked in Poland for a long time.
There is no such a thing as fermentation in vinegar. When you put something in vinegar you just pickle it, fermentation requires microorganisms and salty conditions and typically no vinegar (in case of lactic fermentation, other types of fermentation may require vinegar at the beginning, still tho - a different process)
Exactly. Polish cuisine has cucumbers in brine, not pickles. Cucumbers in brine: cucumbers are placed in brine (salt and water) and left for bacteria to process sugars present in cucumbers into lactic acid. Pickles are made by adding vinegar (acetic acid in water) to cucumbers. Taste of cucumbers in brine and pickles is very different.

There are two groups in Poland arguing which way of eating potato pancakes is better. One eats potato pancakes like you did - with sugar, the other eats them with salt ( or goulash or sour cream and smoked salmon for example). I am personally a representative of the second one. You should try them in the salt way:D
Everything looked soooo good. I was surprised your signature romance music didn't start playing when you were eating. 😁Thank you for sharing the beautiful scenic view outside of the restaurant. Dinner and a show. Btw, love pickles. I dip baby dills in ranch dressing for a snack. It's no pickle soup though, which looked amazing! Onwards & Upwards, Joel! 👍
In Poland you start with Soup or Stew and then you go for more solid dish like Potato pancakes or Pierogi. Bigos (or hunter's stew) is usually eaten with slices of bread.
Bro, respect for eating all at once, happy to see that you enjoyed your meal. If you feel brave enough you should try something that we call "Tatar", hard to get over for foreigners, basically it is a raw beef meat mixed with raw egg yolk with adding's such as onion, gherkins and sometimes pickled mushrooms.
My favorite is Polish fresh Wedding Sausage with garlic with some Polish Wedding noodles as a side dish. My folks loved Kiska,Kvass which is beet soup. They also liked Duck blood soup. Forgot how to spell it but something like"Charnina"
I HAVE to have sour cream with my perogies, unless I do a bake with sauce. Same with cabbage rolls and potato pancakes lol. That food looked pretty delicious!
I've never had Polish food I've always wanted to try stuffed cabbages. I like that you are eating different cuisines of food from different parts of the world. You really need to try Filipino food they make really good food
Well, some digression here. Using the fork and knife, while you eat, is very rare in the US. In Poland, they keep a fork in the left hand, then a knife in the right one. Spoon, still in the right one, whenever you eat soup.
Great job finishing that challenge Joel! My mom's mother was Polish / American and my mom cooked a lot of those foods growing up. I didn't like the cabbage in the cabbage rolls or eat it much and I don't like sauerkraut very much either and my mom made kielbasa and pork roast with it. I've never heard or eaten beat or pickle soup though

Wrap in foil then grill, or even better put in a small bed of campfire coals. Sweet, nutty & hard to describe but definitely delicious. Would try that pickle soup in a heartbeat. Expanded culinary horizons for sure! Thanks Joel.🫡
Nice to see you enjoyed it! im a big fan of that stew ate it alot
That food looked awesome! It would be fun to try dishes from Poland; they have some good ones! Glad you could make this visit work and with the restaurant's help! I'd definitely try the pierogis, because there's are legitimate. I'd try the pickle dish too. You got a nice variety for us to see. Glad you enjoyed the soup and I like how you then ended saying something along the lines of..."that was super delicious" ;)
To miło , że Ci smakowało, ale gdzie Ty to wszystko zmieściłeś😉
I love stuffed cabbage rolls and that looked like a great version.
Cucumber soup is one of my favourites ❤ I'm glad you liked it 🎉
I made pickle soup last week. It's a staple in our household. Loooove it
U get 5 full size meals and U made it boy- wow respect✌. I understand it and ogórkowa is also my big favorit. We have very delicious food in Poland and I'm very proud of it. Two weeks in Poland would be great for you❤🤩. I'm hungry now😅
You are in my ‘ballpark’. My tummy is grumbling soooo much. And your description is killing me. Ha. 😎
:)
This looks authentic AF, the owners clearly know what they're doing!
I NEED that pickle soup recipe 😮🥺 I have an obsession with pickles and that looked euphoric. All of it looked delicious.
Google polish sour pickle soup.
@@mnikko1 I’m searching but I’m not finding any yet with the beef in it and whatever that stringy stuff was
The stringy stuff was pickles😉 they just decided to cut it that way.
@@Kenny_PL oh yum!! Thank you
@@JulieThomps89 It is "zupa ogórkowa" in Polish - cucumber soup - "ogórek" is cucumber. Try to search for cucumber soup recipe.
This looks very authentic. almost like my mom makes it 😋
Tylko ta tania kiełba
Love me some pickles!!! That looked delicious! I'm half Russian and I grew up eating perogis and potato pancakes and now I need to go make some lol
Najlepsze polskie jedzenie jest w Polsce, bo liczą się miejscowe składniki. Ser, mąka, kapusta, kiełbasa mięso ziemniaki. Wszystko wygląda smakowicie i pięknie i napewno dobrze smakuje. Pozdrawiam z Polski 🇵🇱
There are two groups in Poland arguing which way of eating potato pancakes is better. One eats potato pancakes like you did - with sugar, the other eats them with salt ( or goulash or sour cream and smoked salmon for example). I am personally a representative of the second one. You should try them in the salt way:D
This food looks really good man :) i can only imagine how it tastes.
1.pierogi :P , 2.sałatka jarzynowa, 3.placki ziemniaczane, 4. schabowy, 5. mielony, 6. gołąbki, reszta losowo, :D Smacznego :)
Man, you made me hungry . Cool video, greetings from Poland .
In Poland you start with Soup or Stew and then you go for more solid dish like Potato pancakes or Pierogi. Bigos (or hunter's stew) is usually eaten with slices of bread.
Hinter's stew is foggy, rainy winter dish.
Hello from Colorado! I hope all is well. Stay blessed 🙌
:)
My favorite is Polish fresh Wedding Sausage with garlic with some Polish Wedding noodles as a side dish. My folks loved Kiska,Kvass which is beet soup. They also liked Duck blood soup. Forgot how to spell it but something like"Charnina"
czarnina or black soup.
given by parents to a bachelor to get away from his daughter.
and by the way, very good soup.
Kvass is a fermented sweet drink (soda), looks black like coke. Beetroot soup is barszcz or botwinkowa (those are two different ones).
@@robertr1540 inaczej czarna polewka, jest zupą na rosole słodko-kwaśną
You've tried all my life time favorites...😊 Just the potato pancakes I eat only with sour cream and that is orthodox
That makes my so hungry. Greetings from Poland.
Interesting good video! What a variety of colors n taste
I HAVE to have sour cream with my perogies, unless I do a bake with sauce. Same with cabbage rolls and potato pancakes lol. That food looked pretty delicious!
Joel you re 50% Polish mate. I watch you from a long time and I know that you re gonna love it
I've never had Polish food I've always wanted to try stuffed cabbages.
Man all that looks good 💯
:)
Thank you, Joel! Never had Polish food, but now I have to find a restaurant where I live.
Also, respect the pickle!
:)
Smoked sausage looks amazing and delicious 😋😋😋😋
The bites are massive 🤣😅 but I'm glad you enjoy our food
It really looked amazing..

Pickle soup🫣😯🥹☺️ now that is very interesting. Hey Joel💋💋💋
Hey hey
It must be said clearly that it is not made from pickles though. These are cucumbers fermented in brine ( water, salt and spices). No vinegar, God forbid!
