I really enjoyed ‘Verity’ although the ending is a bit bonkers. I love Hoover’s writing style, and the wide variety of stories she’s written, so I’ve been collecting from thrift stores.
Love that you have a Free Library. I have a funny relationship with books. I love to read both print and audiobooks but I don’t keep books. I feel that once I have read it, I need to pass it on and give it to someone else who will enjoy it. I often write my name and the date in the book and think about all the people who could put their names in the book if it keeps getting passed on. I love to find a flea market, used book store or library sale. I challenge myself to pick out 5 books that I have already read and love to add to my neighborhood Free Little Library.
I read Lonesome Dove about a year ago and was very intrigued by the story. Not my usual choice of genre, but I had picked it up somewhere and decided to give it a go. Will definitely read another McMurtry book in the future.
Hi Guys, This was great. I'm always on the lookout for book rec's. Loved Addie Larue!! Branden, that Mr Mercedes / Bill Hodges trilogy is great. Love the Holly character. She is also in the "Outsider" and "If it Bleeds" which I recommend you read before the "Holly" book. Also since you mentioned you are a Red Sox fan, have you read "the girl who loved Tom Gordon" also by Stephen King? It's so good. Also the Thursday Murder club is very good. I've read all of them and just heard they are making it into a movie or series.
Awesome! Thanks for the scoop on S. King. I have realized I am always gravitating towards his books now. Also, I plan on reading the other Thursday Murder Club books, and can believe it is being made into a show. I was envisioning different British actors I know as the characters.
I just recently found your channel so I’m catching up on previous videos. I have to say, finding a book on my TBR at a thrift store is one of my greatest thrills. Branden, I’m putting that Stephen King trilogy on my “to find” thrift store list. I am also a huge fan of King’s writing. I devoured his books when I was younger, but I haven’t read much of his stuff in the past decade or so. You have inspired me to put him back on my TBR.
New sub!! How can I pass up a husband/wife duo??? I love your haul. My husband listens to audiobooks on Libby, but prefers not to shop for books anywhere. I hope you love your choices, I’ve read Lonesome Dove, the best western I’ve ever read! The Hilary Mantel trilogy-my favorite series ever! I’ve collected all the Stephen King I could find, but I’ve only read 5 of them. I’m trying to read them chronologically, but that might be difficult to accomplish. Happy reading 📖 📚📚📚📚📚🥰
So happy to have you here. Thank you! And I’m excited to know that you are a big fan of the Wolf Hall series. I really can’t wait to crack into that. I’m thinking this summer!
Loved seeing your thrift haul! I also have a Little Free Library in St George, Utah (nicknamed The Bookmark) and love to thrift for books to fill it with. I have Lonesome Dove, Snow Falling on Cedars, Mr. Mercedes trilogy, and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue on my TBR as well (and I'm pretty sure they are all second head books). I love the peruse the used books at Deseret Industries but my favorite thrifting source is the local libraries. Ours run on a county level and I check out at least 4 of them frequently. They sell hardbacks/audiobooks for $1 and all paperback/YA/children's books for 25 cents and you don't even need a library card to buy the books in their for sale section. You can't beat it!
Tayler, Addie LaRue is absolutely fantastic. I think you'll love it, its got various time periods, pulls in some historical events, and lots of fantasy/magic. 100% recommend. I listened to the audiobook 2 years ago and its stuck with me!
Addie LaRue is sooooooo good. I loved that book. I know you you already have a large pile to work through, but The Alienist by Caleb Carr would be right up your ally, Taylor. You two are so good at this.
Hi!! I love this suggestion because I’ve read both The Alienist and The Angel of Darkness and they are so down my alley. ❤️ I have yet to watch the show though…
Tayler! I was looking for your bookish content on your knitting channel and couldn’t find it but then this video appeared in my queue thanks to the algorithm 😃! Happy to be here coz man oh man I LOVE BOOKS! I especially love finding books at used bookstores and thrift stores (aaaaaand I drag my book loving kids along 😂) I have to say though that I am a sucker for old and classic books🤷♀️
I love thrifting for books as well!!! One great source is Pango Books. I’ve literally found brand new hardbacks for 5.00. Love your duo/other half and the new podcast!
Great haul! I loved the Mr. Mercedes trilogy; I’m not a horror reader, but I’ve really enjoyed King’s “other” books. I recently read Wolf Hall and enjoyed it. Helpful tip: when you read, “he said”, unless it’s blatantly obvious it’s somebody else, she’s referring to Cromwell. Mantel’s writing style takes a bit of getting used to. I also have the other 2 yet to read. I know a lot of readers love Hoover, I’m not a fan. Lonesome Dove is fantastic!
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is one of my favourite books of all time; you're in for such a treat, Tayler! V E Schwab has some fantastic series that I think would be right up your street - The Shades of Magic trilogy (set in 4 different versions of London), and also Vicious/Vengeful (2-part dark academia series). If Brandon is into Stephen King, please check out his Dark Tower series; absolutely phenomenal! Also, My Cousin Rachel has been made into a fantastic film with Rachel Weisz, so that's definitely worth checking out. X
I’m so glad you mentioned this about VE Schwab! I’m so interested in her Shades of Magic series! And Branden just picked up some of the Dark Tower series and is excited to get into it. ❤️
One of my favourite books that I've read over the last few years is A midnight library by Mat Haig. It really made me think about life and what could have been and how everything happens for a reason. A quick read but I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend if you want to mix things up a bit.
Can't wait to hear what you think about Verity. If your copy doesn't have the extra chapter, make sure you find it online. Changed my mind about the ending!!
Yay! I haven't watched the video yet, but I am excited for this! Love seeing you and Brandon together in a video. Love your knitting videos so I'm sure I'll love these ones too! ❤❤
Hey guys!! Great first episode!! My Stephen King favourite is The Dead Zone...and The Lamplighter by Anthony O'Neill is amazing Victorian * murder mystery * set in Scotland...
Great book haul video! There is nothing better than scoring new books for really cheap! I read and enjoyed Verity and Addie Larue. I have Lonsome Dove on my bookshelf. I think I got it for $.50! I love that your family has a Free Little Library. My husband built one for my Mom for her bday one year. I'm so glad you both made this channel. I may have to see if my husband would like to read together. ❤
In my early 20's I went on a spree of reading books that had also been made into movies. (Reading the books first, of course!) Snow Falling On Cedars was one during that period. Loved the book - thought the movie was a complete waste of money to make! I wonder now if I were to revisit both (20 years later) if my opinion would change, especially in regard to the movie. That is the wonderful thing about the arts. Our own life experiences can shape and change our views and opinions about what we take in through other mediums. Love what you two are doing here! Thanks for sharing it with all of us!
I am really relating to this right now as I just got back from our Friends of the Library Book Sale and hot 10 books for $15. Snow Falling on Cedars was an excellent book. I have read other Colleen Hoover books and also have Verity in my TBR pile. Can’t wait to hear what you think of these two books. Enjoy reading!
I really enjoyed Snow Falling on Cedars. A definite highly recommended. I think you guys did really well, especially finding trilogies and the like. The library is my friend, since I have been living in emergency accommodation and cannot really keep many books on hand. I also donate to and use the little libraries in my area. ❤
So fun to see your book haul. They closed the GoodWill close to me, but now I am itching to find a GW and search for books. I read The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and I really liked it. It was very different from what I expected it to be and had a moment of letting go of what I hoped it was and really found it thought provoking. Can’t wait to see what your take on it is. I read Verity and it kept me entertained and it was a quick read.
I've read a few of these. I loved Verity, Addie LaRue, and anything Stephen King. You both picked up great reads, and gave me ideas for a few new reads for myself
Love the X-wing series! My husband and I have both read all of them, and our middle boy is wanting to read them but the first one is lost somewhere in our house 😂 we'll find it eventually (I hope?)
Hi guys! Loving your content so far- awesome idea. Two questions for you if you have the time: Tayler- do you have a compelling book series that you’d recommend that maybe you feel is underrated? We seem to have similar tastes in books. Branden- what is that test/survey you mentioned that you took that recommended Snow Falling on Cedars to be read? I’m intrigued! Thanks guys again for your work- really enjoying it!
Came over from your knitting channel and you’re so fun to watch together. Your husband seems so comfortable in front of camera. I love Stephen King and have collected all the hard covers of all his books…..and drum role….I love a lot of YA fantasy. Scythe is YA but very thought provoking as all Neil Schusterman books tackle big issues. Thanks for fun content.
I love this!!! Will share with my daughters, who are also readers. Taylor-I see you, Booksniffer (I do it too). If you like Sasome, I would recommend the Giordano Bruno books by S.J. Parris.
Hi Roberta! Yep. You caught me! Can’t help myself. 😊 And I LOVE the Giordano Bruno series. I’ve read them all up until this most recent one (Alchemy). It’s on my summer TBR list. ❤️❤️
What a good book haul. Some Danger Involved looks interesting to me. I may check that out. I just finished The Thursday murder Club & I’m about to start McMasters Guide to Homicide, Murder your Employer. It was recommended to me & looks like an interesting read. Looking forward to more of your videos!
I've read the first two Wolf Hall books and enjoyed them! I liked the second one a little better. "Snow Falling on Cedars" is excellent! Hope you enjoy all your books!
If you enjoy the gothic genre I would recommend Barbara Michael and Victoria Holt. I am a huge fan of British mysteries and love the between the World Wats era. Dorothy Sayers, Agatha Christie and so many others.
The long walk by Richard Bachman aka Stephen King is the absolute best King novel… and fairly short you could finish it in a couple sittings.. hard to put down
I just finished the Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and enjoyed it. The first half is a little slow but the second half makes everything clear and is heartbreaking and that’s not something I say often about books. I read the first two of the Wolf Hall series. These I also found slow reads but still very good books.
So many things running through my brain. I didn't really care for Verity. I did like This Starts With Us and This Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover. I want to read the Addie Larue book. I read Snow Falling on Cedars years ago and liked it. I got a copy of Lonesome Dove a few months ago -- thanks to Book are sick!! So coll to see you do a shout out! If you haven't seen the mini series I highly recommend it. Not a Stephen King reader but I might be dipping my toes in soon. None of his thrillers though. Currently reading James by Percival Everett and will eventually read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Looking forward to seeing your little free library!
If you love Stephen king I have to misery is spectacular! I’ve read a lot of his and that had me gripped from start to finish it’s an oldie but a goodie and one of my all time favourites!!! Also I’m half way through sleeping beauties he wrote with his son and so far highly recommend 😊
Verity is a retelling of a book you've recently told us you read! 🤓 Verity was the first (and last) Colleen Hoover book I've read. No shade to the Colleen Hoover readers, it's just not my style.
Also so glad to hear Brandon is using StoryGraph!!! ♥️ So much more in depth than Goodreads, and doesn't feel like selling your soul. I've also been trying to build out my home library the last few years, but with just bangers. So I read them from my local library, and then buy beautiful editions of the ones I really loved. I'd highly recommend Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.
My wife and I listened to Addie LaRue together on a very long car drive, I highly recommend reading it together! (It is different from Age of Adeline but both are good!)
If you like Stephen King you must try the Dark Tower series, I think it’s his best. I’m going to also recommend NOS4A2 by Joe Hill. Joe is Stephen’s son and wrote NOS4A2 around the same time that Mr. Mercedes was written. Both books are about creepy old guys with big cars and there is some cross over between father and son’s novels.
Awesome! Thanks for the recommendations. I actually just picked up the first in the Dark Tower series and am looking to get into it. My brother told me it's his all time favorite. And I'll certainly keep my eyes out for NOS4A2.👍
Long time Stephen King fan. I loved the concept of Addie LaRue but it wasn’t five stars for me. I won’t spoil it though. I believe in letting people enjoy things! I love this giant haul ❤❤❤
I read Verity, really did not like it. Started off great and then went steadily down hill in my opinion. Snow Falling on Cedars loved it. Think I saw the movie too, but it was a while ago. I read Lonesome Dove years ago but I loved it. I think Leonardo DiCaprio was in the mini-series (I may have just dated myself using that term... I believe we would call it a Limited Series these days). Wolf Hall is on my TBR list. My fave Stephen King book is On Writing. I've read that about 10 times over, yet I haven't read any of his fiction books. I should remedy that.
Love your TBR is growing and growing! Just want to throw a question out to the two of you, and everyone else here … have you ever picked up a book and it felt so nice fanning through the pages you just had to buy it? Or is that just me? 😂 Oddly enough have found some amazing books I probably would never have read otherwise 😁📖📚💖
100% yes. In fact, this was me a couple weeks ago with the book The Square of Sevens. Holy moly, that book is beautiful. And the pages are so smooth and heavy. 😊
Curious what you’ll think about the Invisible Life of Addie Larue. I DNF at 55%. Reeeeeally tried to power through it, but it just fell so flat for me.
Today we're sharing part of our recent thrift store book haul as we build our home library. Join us!
I love the Invisible Life of Addie Larue.
That's what we keep hearing from everyone. We are both eager to read it. 👍
I really enjoyed ‘Verity’ although the ending is a bit bonkers. I love Hoover’s writing style, and the wide variety of stories she’s written, so I’ve been collecting from thrift stores.
As they say, to each their own. I think Tayler will be staying away for now. 🤷🏻♂️ But thrifting for books is so fun. Never know what you will find.
Verity. Run away. Burn it. You were warned! 😂
OMG tell me more!!!
Snow Falling on Cedars also deals with the Japanese internment camps. Fantastic book.
Trash at its very best! Hate Colleen Hoover and I don't understand why her books are being turned into movies.
I love that you both have similar reading interests as me and some I wouldn’t normally think of. Oh and being a Red Sox fan is a plus too lol :)
That's an awesome way to experience books.
I do the same. I read the books I have and then pass them onto my mother, who then passes then onto my aunt.
I read Lonesome Dove about a year ago and was very intrigued by the story. Not my usual choice of genre, but I had picked it up somewhere and decided to give it a go. Will definitely read another McMurtry book in the future.
Snow Falling on Cedars is wonderful. You'd love it as a together read.
Oh, that would be a good idea. Thanks for the inspiration.
Read it years ago, excellent writing!
It was a movie also!
I never knew, and thanks to doing this, we can now have another movie night!
Great book haul! One of my favorite Authors is Larry McMurtry, I love his writing. I really enjoyed the Lonesome Dove series especially Comanche Moon.
Thank you. I'm looking forward to getting to know Larry McMurtry's writing.
Hi Guys, This was great. I'm always on the lookout for book rec's. Loved Addie Larue!! Branden, that Mr Mercedes / Bill Hodges trilogy is great. Love the Holly character. Wonderful! It is always fun to do some thrift book hunting.
I love the book Verity!
Snow Falling on Cedars was well liked by those in my family. I found that 3rd book of The Mirror and the Light at our Dollar tree store.
I (Branden) will be reading it soon I think and am getting pumped by all the praise people are giving it. Thanks.
Yes that's great. Our local libraries have a similar thing and we have found some wonderful books there.
Tayler, Addie LaRue is absolutely fantastic. I think you'll love it, its got various time periods, pulls in some historical events, and lots of fantasy/magic. 100% recommend. I listened to the audiobook 2 years ago and its stuck with me!
This is so good to know! Thank you. I honestly keep seeing it over there on our shelf and I’m super enticed. The whole concept is intriguing. ❤️
You might get me excited to read again... ❤️
That’s so great Tammy! I hope so. ❤️
Tayler! I was looking for your bookish content on your knitting channel and couldn’t find it but then this video appeared in my queue thanks to the algorithm 😃!
Happy to be here coz man oh man I LOVE BOOKS!
I especially love finding books at used bookstores and thrift stores (aaaaaand I drag my book loving kids along 😂)
I have to say though that I am a sucker for old and classic books🤷♀️
That's awesome. Yeah, our boys get a kick out of it too.
I love thrifting for books as well!!!
One great source is Pango Books. I’ve literally found brand new hardbacks for 5.00.
Love your duo/other half and the new podcast!
Oh wow! We'll have to check it out. Thank you.
Awesome! Thanks for the incite. It's always helpful and appreciated when starting a new book.
Awesome! We will have to check it out.
Can't wait to hear what you think about Verity. If your copy doesn't have the extra chapter, make sure you find it online. Changed my mind about the ending!!
Oh, we'll have to look and see. Thanks for the heads up.
Yay! I haven't watched the video yet, but I am excited for this! Love seeing you and Brandon together in a video. Love your knitting videos so I'm sure I'll love these ones too! ❤❤
Thank you for taking a chance on us Danielle! ❤️
Absolutely loved the duo filming! Fun to see the different choices! Gonna pick up some of your suggestions!
Yay! Thank you!
Hey guys!! Great first episode!! My Stephen King favourite is The Dead Zone...and The Lamplighter by Anthony O'Neill is amazing Victorian * murder mystery * set in Scotland...
Thanks! Also, thanks for the awesome recommendations. We'll keep our eyes out for them.
Great book haul video! There is nothing better than scoring new books for really cheap! I read and enjoyed Verity and Addie Larue. I have Lonsome Dove on my bookshelf. I think I got it for $.50! Very much enjoy thrifting books! Tyfs
Thanks for watching!

Yay! Thank you. Didn't actually realize there was a movie. Glad that we will read the book first though.
Well done on your first episode!
Thank you so much!
Yes, it an awesome feeling resupplying your home library without breaking the bank. Snow falling on cedars is certainly on the "soon to be read" list.
The Invisible Life is on my want to read list too! Great episode!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed Snow Falling on Cedars. A definite highly recommended. I think you guys did really well, especially finding trilogies and the like. The library is my friend, since I have been living in emergency accommodation and cannot really keep many books on hand. I also donate to and use the little libraries in my area. ❤
❤️ Thank you so much. We love taking our boys to the library and have been known to find some gems to read there as well.
So fun to see your book haul. They closed the GoodWill close to me, but now I am itching to find a GW and search for books. I read The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and I really liked it. That's a bummer about your Goodwill. We keep hearing great things about both. Tayler just started Verity and I can tell she is hooked.
I came over from the knitting channel ❤😊
Hi!!! Thank you for giving us a try. 😘😘
@@GoodBooksLately I had a blast. 😁
First of all, Brandon's shirt is fantastic! I hope you love snow falling on cedars. I read it a number of years ago and loved it!
Thank you. I will be getting to it soon, I'm sure. As for the shirt, it was a fun one that my oldest picked out for me to buy.
I've read a few of these. I loved Verity, Addie LaRue, and anything Stephen King. You both picked up great reads, and gave me ideas for a few new reads for myself
Yay, thank you! Glad we could inspire you as well to look for new reads.
Oh this is so exciting! I love Branden's shirt
Thank you. My oldest picked it out for me.
Love the X-wing series! My husband and I have both read all of them, and our middle boy is wanting to read them but the first one is lost somewhere in our house 😂 we'll find it eventually (I hope?)
That's awesome. I'm eager to start. I've read all of the Thrawn series both new and old. That's my favorite.
Ours too! They are the best, and very well loved by all in our nerd house 😂
Perfection. I can’t wait to get updates from you both on the books.
Wow! Thanks. Updates will be coming.
I’ve read a few of Stephen King books. My favorites are The Stand and Shawshank Redemption. Love watching you guys chat about books ❤️👏😄
I've been eager to grab a copy of both. Thanks for the encouragement to do so. 😁
I'll Tayler answer hers on her own, but the survey thing is part of the app called Storygraph.
I love this New podcast! Im back into reading lately to! Im reading mistborn by brandon sanderson! So good 😊
We both want to get into some Brandon Sanderson. Glad you love the videos.
BTW, Will Thomas has about 15 books featuring the Inspector and his protégé. Lots of fun to look forward to!
That will make the TBR a little bit longer.
@@GoodBooksLately Yes, but so much more fun than just a trilogy.

Awesome! Thanks. I'm nearly done with Thursday Murder and can't wait to find out how it ends. 🔎
I really like the Will Thomas series, there are 15 in the series and another 1 out next year.
I can’t wait to get into them. I’m thinking late summer, early fall for me. Good to know another is coming!
I've read the first two Wolf Hall books and enjoyed them! I liked the second one a little better. "Snow Falling on Cedars" is excellent! Hope you enjoy all your books!
Good to know! Thank you Jeanne!
Verity is so good!
It's an experience, that's for SURE!
I loved Addie LaRue! I hope you like it too!

If you enjoy the gothic genre I would recommend Barbara Michael and Victoria Holt.
I am a huge fan of British mysteries and love the between the World Wats era. Dorothy Sayers, Agatha Christie and so many others.
Wow! Thanks for the info. We are certainly looking to read some Agatha Christie. We actually snagged a few of her books recently.

Yes! I've been on the lookout for that one. Heard it's great. Thanks for the recommendation.
My book club just finished reading Lonesome Dove. Starts a little slow but is a great story.
That's great to hear. Not sure when I will start it, but definitely sooner rather than later.
Loved this video! Can’t wait to hear how you liked the books!
Thank you for watching! So good to have you here Charlene. ❤️
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is fantastic! It’s one that I would re-read.
Might be our next read together book.
Awesome. I've been looking to pick up Misery and now I will certainly keep an eye out for Sleeping Beauties as well.
Yes. Storygraph is great. Also, Project Hail Mary is on my want to read list.
Read Snow Falling... Lonesome Dove, Streets of Laredo. All good. Read lots of Stephen King just not those particular ones. Been a few years back
Yes! Can't wait to dive in to those bad boys.
Try other books by VE Schwab - there is a trilogy about magic and alternate Londons. Excellent! Enjoying your show
This is on my list for sure! I just started reading about them and can’t wait. Thank you Cydney!
My wife and I listened to Addie LaRue together on a very long car drive, I highly recommend reading it together!
(It is different from Age of Adeline but both are good!)
Oh this is so good to know! Thank you. I think we will. 👍
So good to see you over here Star! And I appreciate your take on Addie LaRue. I think we may read it together. ❤️
I read all of A. Hitchcock books years ago, he was a master of murder mystery stories! Enjoy!
Wow! What a great recap of some of our pickups. That's great to hear. Tayler has read On Writing and loved it.
if you like Stephen King, you have to read The Stand. it's Epic and will stay with you forever.
Oh, I appreciate the Stephen King recommendation. Always looking for my next one.
Verity is INSANE. Regardless of your ending opinion on it, I guarantee you won't be able to put it down. What a wild ride.
There's a reason verity is in the thrift store LOL
😂
Curious what you’ll think about the Invisible Life of Addie Larue. I DNF at 55%. Reeeeeally tried to power through it, but it just fell so flat for me.
We'll keep you posted for sure!
my Mom, who is 91, thinks Verity is straight up Porn...lol. I thought is was good.
