Great overview and have learned a lot from the channel. Moved from a Buck 110 to Civivi, Spyderco, a Griptilian (or in this case the Ritter Hogue) and popped in a no-choil Spanto XM-18 last week. All the best MC!
Thanks for this video, MC! Finally bought an official Hinderer (been buying just the ZTs) today and this is a great video to watch for learning more about the company and the other blade shapes.
Wow, thanks for the great timing of this video... I have my first Hinderer in the budget at the end of the month and I've been torn between 2 blade shapes... thanks for the breakdown!
Just ordered a 3.5 inch recurve. First Hinderer. I’ve half CRK knives, Medford and striders this was the last on I have yet to try from the holy trinity lol
Ha! This couldn't have been done at a better time. Hypothetically, "someone" is looking to buy their first Hinderer this month. Every ZT he err I mean they own is of Hinderer design but have never held a real Hinderer. With a Tri-way tanto flipper being a must, which would you recommend I errr they go with, the XM-18 Tanto or the Eklipse Harpoon Tanto and why? It'll get carried quite a bit, fidgeted with even more, used but not abused. My uhhh friend thanks you in advance for sharing your preferences, suggestions, and even moreso all of your videos (including those about this from a year ago).
Just ordered a Gen 6 Spearpoint flipper in S45VN with a working finish. Probably going to change the scale out to blue/black like the new ZT 0562, but keep the rest stock.
This video is amazing and plus I was having problems finding out the blade shapes so thank you MC for putting all in one video so that it is easier for everyone 😁
Hey, awesome overview over the Hinderer XM18 family! The last custom in your video is the "Recurve Poon" its a one-off grind and it is in my possession and the pic you used in the video is mine as well. I am fine with it to use my pic from the FB collectors group. No problem at all. Rick did this one-off custom besides 4 other one-off XM18 grinds in 2016 for the G8 in Las Vegas. The others were the "Dragons Claw" the "Deep Ground Hellfire" and the "Pile Of Skulls Fullered". The fifth honestly i do not know. In 2015 he did a sick one-off as well, called Sanitarium based on a XM24 Bowie grind.
I purchased a Jurassic slicer a few months ago, and really like the slicer grind, but the finger grooves are not to my liking at all. I was pretty delighted with the ergos of the ZT 0562 TI, but just thought there was a bit too much chonk, so I opted for a Covid Skinny Skinner a couple of days ago. Should get here tomorrow. Trying a new blade shape and handle might not hold up to my tastes, but hopefully I can recuperate the costs on the secondary market with it being a Covid model. After that, I'll just settle with the 0562 until I can find an XM-18 that I'll fall in love with, or just wait for a Tri-Way FireTac.
As someone who (surprisingly) doesn't have an actual Hinderer yet but is looking into getting one soon this was actually very informative! As of right now, I'm pretty dead set on getting the Covid Skinny Skinner from Usamadeblade, but if that fails, I'll probably opt for the Slicer grind since I like the ZT 0562Ti so much. I'd love to see a similar video for the Eklipse blade shapes too!
My only Hinderer is the 3.5" Spanto. I am happy with the blade shape. But I will say that I really like the Sheepsfoot and hope to add one to my collection. I would love to see the Sparrow released again, but that is primarily because 3V is my favorite blade steel.
I would love to get a XM-18 someday, but I've been looking for about 6 months and as far as I can tell it's impossible unless you get them for a jacked up price on the secondary market. If I ever in my life am able to find one I think the Bowie is my favorite, then maybe the Wharncliffe
I’m guessing the last one would be called the AP or Swedged Harpoon Spanto, but either way I now absolutely need to own one of the last four blade shapes so, thanks a lot for adding that to my list of “NEEDS” lol
I freakin love all of them. I really need to try a slicer grind. Might do the zt0562 because it has less gimping than the xm-18 on the landing zone and I basically flip my knife non stop.
I'm getting close to doing the same thing. I've been looking for an XM-18 (ideally a Bowie) for about 6 months and it seems hopeless other than eBay. I really was hoping to get one at the regular price from a dealer, but I'm starting to think it's not possible.
Dude i got a no choil spanto on the way, I have the fatty wharncliff its a older one, and I have the new eklipse I had a fatty poon and I sold it like a idiot 🤦♂️
Aggressor tanto is all that and a debbie snack! Interesting video on amazing knives. Thanks I think a detailed video on the generational differences would be excellent.

Metal Complex there is also the blade the zt0392 is designed after!
That grind was on an Eklipse frame. Ive seen that one in the gallery as well 👍
Just bought my first hinderer, 3.5” xm-18 with a recurve grind

I just picked up my first Hinderer today, a blue XM18 spear point. Got it 3 weeks after getting my 0562, haha.

...Bueller? ..........Bueller? ..................Bueller?
I love the spanto, Bowie, and drop point style 😁
All I want is a fullered wharncliffe non flipper. That would be epic
This is an incredible video. I had no idea of the variety of grinds out there. Thank you 😊

Hey thats awesome! And thanks for letting me use your pic 😊👍. Thats an amazing knife friend. I'm extremely jealous!

Hey just thought I'd let you know I really enjoy all the non-review stuff you do on your channel! (Knife guy and discussion stuff)
Great video. There were a bunch of blades I didn’t know about. And now I want them all.
Armored recurve and those are hinderer blue twill carbon fiber scales! Nice vid!
Thanks for clarifying
I believe only 2 exist
Wow lol!
That was a beautiful presentation!

I love your passion for hinderer knives!
This was an amazing video, thanks!!! Been hunting for my first Hinderer
Just got a skinny xm18 3.5 harpoon spanto and i love it
Where did you get it, was it new?
also shipping to the states wasn't all that bad it got here in under a week
Really interesting video. Cool to see all the blade varieties.
I freakin love all of them. I really need to try a slicer grind. Might do the zt0562 because it has less gimping than the xm-18 on the landing zone and I basically flip my knife non stop.
Just bought 1st Hinderer 3.5 recurve, triway, not sure what gen
HELLLP, Does the fullered spear only come in M390?
...and of course there are acouple other sick one-off grinds existing.
Great video! Thank you!
Where are the Gen4 Bowies you mentioned?
I think I saw a few at True North Knives.
We need to start a rent a knife company lol. That way we can try out knives without fully buying them. Kind of like renting a car for a week.
All AD20 blade shapes?
I don't know why but I want to see a flamberg blade edge with a flat blade stock rn
Great great vid buddy, luv'd it ❗👏
Great video
Great video.. nice info !!
6 months later and I have a gen 6 bowie that I purchased on the secondary. Haha
I'm getting close to doing the same thing. I've been looking for an XM-18 (ideally a Bowie) for about 6 months and it seems hopeless other than eBay. I really was hoping to get one at the regular price from a dealer, but I'm starting to think it's not possible.
Idk why you stopped doing vids like this ?
i own a 3,5inch recurve xm-18 so they build it😉
Aggressor tanto? Omg
Time for an update maybe lol

I might do that! 😊
