    Just got my shipment of Sourwood and Tupelo honey. Also tried some Tupelo for Laniers. Yours had the same yet slightly stronger (wrong terminology) flavor. Crazy how I could tell the differences from all three wonderful honeies. Amazing what natural honey can taste like when you start to treat it like fine wine. Hoping to keep my first hives around long enough to harvest some honey... lol .

    The reason certain species produce what appears to be an abundance of seed is often to counteract poor germination. Sometimes, mechanical scarification can increase the percentage of success, although is generally applied to larger seed only. Chemical scarification is a massive benefit with species that have an unusually impermeable seed coat, basswood, both Americana and cordata comes to mind .

    I'm from Nebraska, and I've been really happy to see you mention the state, and have Kevin from Nebraska in your last video. I've watched all of your videos, and I think you have provided the very best series of videos on beekeeping that I have found. I'm getting my first four nucs next weekend from a commercial outfit here in central Nebraska, and i'll be installing them in some used migratory equipment I purchased in good shape. I really appreciate the content you are creating, and I look forward to your videos. Thanks for taking the time to make them Bob.

    Hello Bob. I just got done checking my queens. I picked up from you last week. All of them are doing well except two of them. The two I lost was completely my fault. I split them in the same yard. I didn't have much fly back and I didn't have enough stores in the splits. Those two starved out. ☹️ I should have given them a jar of syrup but I didn't. I've never had this to happen before, but it won't happen again. We all learn from mistakes.
    Thanks for the Tupelo Honey. It's really good. My honey customers love your mountain wildflower honey.

    Hello Mr Binnie. Thanks for all your videos. Not being from the States, i don´t know the prices for nucs. But seeing all the manhours and care invested for making and dispatching them, i think they would be paid in gold over here. I'm assuming the nuc-boxes don't return to you? I wish you a good season, beautiflul queens and full honeypots!

    • @bobbinnie9872
      @bobbinnie9872  2 роки тому

      Hi Karl. Yes, the nuc boxes don't return. They are inexpensively made from used plywood. Nucs here are selling between $150.00 and $225.00 US dollars. They sell for less in southern states, more in the north. These went for $185.00 which we consider a good deal. Next year they will probably be more.

    • @karlfriedrich75

      @@bobbinnie9872 Okay. That´s a diferent price tag. They sell over here (Germany) overwintered 10-frame colonies cheaper. There are offers at 125 to 160 € for a 10-frame hive made the year before and overwintered (without the box). I don't understand the calculation of this... I think a colony ready to fill supers should get a better price.

    You show a hole in the bottom as well. When I look at your video on building Nucs, you have just a single hole at the top. I see the comment below that says you add an extra hole on top for ventilation and I assume that is the same for the hole on the bottom. Do you only put that hole on the bottom for Nucs that are going to be transported? Or is that something new that you now add to all of your Nucs. Watching all of the videos allows me to piece various things together and wanted to see if all your Nucs now have a hole on the bottom. Thanks for any context of working Nucs vs shipping Nucs if they are different.

    It looks like you use a lot of staples to hold the mesh in place on the roof and entrance. Do the staples remove easily or do the buyers have a bit of a chore on their hands when they release the bees? Can't tell how long the staples are and maybe they easily pull out once you can grip the mesh and pull.

Some say to just throw another box on with empty frames. Is it a good thing when you do that to pull up a few frames from nectar filled frames to the new box?
