Sarah Harris I live in Florida, but my family is from the country-ass part of Florida, never seen most of these places, only missed one. I was hoping for Brunswick since It’s only an hour away from me.
Ages ago, an out-of-state student at the University of Georgia tried to lie his way into paying in-state tuition. He claimed to be from Winder, a short drive from Athens. The lie became evident because of his mispronunciation of the town name. He pronounced it WIN-der. The correct pronunciation is WINE-der.
Thank you, Mrs. Dooley who taught me Georgia Studies! I got EVERY SINGLE ONE CORRECT!!! I am both a native and current Georgian. My folks would take me on trips on the weekends to different little towns. They taught me a lot of very important stuff that I still use today in the Vacation Rental business (in Helen, GA if anyone’s interested! Lol) Have a blessed Easter! 🐣
At least half this country pronounces Louisiana and New Orleans wrong. What they’d do to the rest of it, I don’t even want to know. Boutte is always fun for out of town friends.
I live in Georgia and some of these were incorrect. Senoia is pronounced like Sin-oy-yah. And the First Lady did get Lithonia right. Everyone there says it like that.😂
That's weird because I have to go to Lithonia regularly and I pronounce it with a long "I", Lie-thonia. Of course, I live in McDonough, and people pronounce that all different ways. :-D
Those names are so weird but I’ve seen worse names on Long Island in NY. Amagansett, Speonk, Patchogue, Ronkonkoma, Wantagh, Yaphank, Quogue, Cutchogue, Commack, Hauppauge, Massapequa, Matinecock, Mineola, Setauket, Sagaponack, Asharoken, Aquebogue, I think you get the idea
I know Hahira because my brothers went to the Georgia Sheriffs boy's ranch there back in the 1960s. They taught my brothers how to be self-sufficient, how to garden, how to build things and put responsibility on their shoulders. It was a working ranch and an excellent place for boys to go when their family was going through rough times. They were only there about a year but it left a permanent, positive impact on them. I may not be able to pronounce ALL the names, but i am so blessed to have been born in Georgia...
Fun Fact: In the Ray Stevens' song about the 43rd annual convention of the nobles of the grand mystic royal order of the Ali Baba temple of the shrine, they represented Hahira.
But it is always funny if I set an address on my GPS and sometimes it correctly pronounces Dacula Road but sometimes it says da-cool-a and I always have a good laugh. If you don't mind me asking are you a Dacula native or did you move here? Personally I've lived here my whole life but I always like learning more about Dacula.
That's because everywhere else in the world it's pronounce mar-Teen-ez. But I can't talk. I grew up in Amarillo, TX and there's a street named Montague. Like Romeo's last name. Mont-ta-gue. But everyone pronounced it Mon-tayg. And here in Houston there's a major road named Kuykendall. Ain't no "r" in there but everyone calls it Kirkendall.
@@miatinsley8465 Ok. That makes sense. Thank you. If you really want some hard to pronounce city names, go to Louisiana. I don't think anyone in this video could've pronounced Natchitoches, Cheniere, or Choudrant.
Several years ago I called the operator when that was a thing to find a phone number of someone in Wimaumama. The lady’s got mad at me and told me that place doesn’t exist.🤣
Relatable. I have family from Tennessee and sometimes the way they pronounce our ga town names is kinda funny. So I’m from Vidalia. Yes it’s pronounced Vi-day-ah, not Vi-dale-ya. So I’ve heard it pronounced vi-dal-lah and vih-da-lia.
For what it's worth, you can tell what part of the state somebody's from by the way they say Vidalia. Also, I grew up in Lithonia, they absolutely got that one flat-out wrong! The lady who said "Yes it is!", was right. Granted, there are people who say it that way, but generally they're not from GA. And Senoia (also lived there)! There are about three accepted ways to say Senoia, but the one they have isn't one I've even heard before. Dacula is wrong, too.
We got some weird ones up north, too. My favorite hard to pronounce Pennsylvania towns: DuBois (great french name usually pronounced Duh-bwah, but no, here it's Dew boys), Duquense (Dew-cane), Reading (Redding), Schuylkill (Skoo-kle), and, best of all, Youghiogheny (Yahk-i-gain-ee). There's also an amusement park called Knoebels (Kuh-nobles)
I work in Eastanollee, I have family in Hahira (honey bee festival), I've been to the gold mines in Dahlonega, and I have been to the King frog palaza (?) in Adel. Oh and The Walking Dead is filmed in Senoia!
Here's one for you (& I grew up two miles from it) Ochlocknee, Georgia (it's in Thomas County roughly about 8-10 miles from Thomasville). Also throw in Pavo, Barwick, & Meigs for stuff & giggles too
As a Lithonia resident. The girl who got surprised her guess was wrong is how everyone here actually says it. No one actually pronounces it like this video says it is... lol
I grew up near Senoia in Coweta County, which is another hard one to pronounce! It’s where Walking Dead is filmed. And, my brother in law is from Hahira. Born and raised in Georgia, but I still only actually knew how to pronounce about a third of these!
My late dad was from Senoia, Georgia. He moved to Atlanta and married my mom and had me. They divorced in 1990. 17 years later, he died of heart problems at his sister's home. -_-
As a native Californian, Dalonega was the one that stumped me. On a search for the highest recommended barbeque places, it took the locals in the next town over a minute to figure out what I was saying when I asked how to get to Dal-on-nega.
I’m from Northwestern Georgia towards the Alabama - Tennessee borders. While when you got to far southern Georgia towards Valdosta and Savannah I had no idea.
As a native Floridian, one of my favorite jokes is about the Yankee husband and wife who came down to visit Disney World. They come into Kissimmee and get into an argument on how to pronounce the name. He said it's pronounced KISS-i-me and the wife said, it's Kiss-I-mee. The argument goes on and and gets more heated until they drive into a hamburger place to get lunch. They go up to the counter, still arguing and the man finally said to the boy taking their order, "Young man, my wife and I have been arguing for over an hour about how to pronounce the name of this place. Would you please just say, very slowly, how to pronounce the proper name of this place?" The kid looks startled, leans forward and says, "Bur-ger King".
I live in the same county so I grew up knowing how it’s said. A bit surprised they didn’t put Valdosta or ever Statenville cause I have heard people say them weird.
Being raised in Vl-DAY-A ( Yea-Go Indians) and the way Yall butchered those names I'm beginning to wonder? I notice that yall pronounce Atlanta wrong, it's At-LAN-UH.
Not a native Georgian, but my family lives out all over southern Georgia. The family farm is just outside Waynesville and I've got folks all around Waycross, Brunswick, and Valdosta. Spent a lot of summers and Christmases in Georgia. My family also likes to play this game with the kids at our reunions so I knew a good deal of these. Brought up a lot of memories thinking about some of these places, For example, when I first got my license I was driving to the family farm on a foggy night and took a wrong turn. I called my dad when I saw the signs for Ludowici because I grew up hearing the stories of how it was a terrible speed trap especially for anyone with out of state plates.
I grew up in Georgia (Blairsville, specifically) and the only ones I got were Adel, Dahlonega, and Hahira, and I only knew that last one because of the song "Shriner's Convention".
I grew up in Georgia and Alabama and I missed most of these. For many of these towns, you have to BE from there. A couple more: Buena Vista--NOT Spanish, it's BU-na Vista, not BWE-na Vista. Lafayette (both Alabama and Georgia)--La FAY ette, not the French LA fa yette. Ya gotta be local! ;)
@JW McCabe Down here, the locals (I have lived near both), pronounced it the way I described, the correct French pronunciation notwithstanding. :) That's the humor of this video!
One of the funniest ones I hear for Massachusetts is the town of Worcester. Most come up with everything but it. I tell people think of Worcestershire sauce and drop the "Shire."
Dahlonega, Ga is where Americas first gold rush supposedly happened after some people found gold in Cherokee territory. The people trespassed on Indian land and wanted the Cherokee people removed so president Jackson signed the Indian removal act, forcefully beating and evicting the Cherokee from their own land and hearing them to a reservation in Oklahoma, this event is famous known as The Trail of Tears. Today you can still pan and mine gold and take tours with historical interpretators in the Blue Ridge Mountains. And an added bonus, if you find any gold, you get to keep it.
Where’s the Georgia gang!

Right here! Adel Baby!
I’m from Rome and Adairsville
Newnan! And I used to live in Smyrna
Newnan as well!! Lived in coweta county my whole life
I’m from Vidalia and have friends from most of these honestly, and Lithonia is 100% pronounced LIE-thonia. That lady was right to argue lol
Idk I always here people say lie thone eya
Even their "correct" pronunciation of Senoia was wrong.
Yeah, they were wrong about Lie-thonia and se-noy-ya.
Exactly. I’m from there and I’ve heard people say both “Li-thonia” and “Lie-thonia”. She was right to argue 😂

I’m from Tattnall (Neighbors Toombs Co which is Vidalia) and we pronounce Vidalia Vi-Day-Uh
I’m from Milan in Georgia!!! We are so small I thought no one knew about us! Literally there are only 500 people in town.
I knew Hahira because of a Ray Stevens song
I live in the same county so I grew up knowing how it’s said. A bit surprised they didn’t put Valdosta or ever Statenville cause I have heard people say them weird.
@@lanesmith2853 statenville ga echols county is really rual
Down in Georgia we don’t say Atlanta
AT-LAN-TUH
We say
AH-LAN-UH
Lol
What about Houston, Georgia? (Pronounced “HOW-stun”
The moment I read the title of this video I knew my town (Dacula) was going to be included, haha!! Love it!! :-D
Being raised in Vl-DAY-A ( Yea-Go Indians) and the way Yall butchered those names I'm
beginning to wonder? I notice that yall pronounce Atlanta wrong, it's At-LAN-UH.
Me too! You're 100% correct!
I know this is a bit old, but I'm glad someone corrected them on how to pronounce Vidalia! I grew up there.
Honey Due ....you are so lucky! I love your onions💕
like when they say martinez its Mar-n-ez
What was the final Calli. I mean tally?
Hilarious. You guys should try some Welsh place names like Llandudno, Pwellheli, Erddig, Llangollen, Gwersyllt, etc 😂
I have a good friend from Arab, Alabama.
Ay-rab.
I grew up in Georgia (Blairsville, specifically) and the only ones I got were Adel, Dahlonega, and Hahira, and I only knew that last one because of the song "Shriner's Convention".
It’s vie-day-a
Yep! Am from there.

Exactly
I have family in Dacula, Georgia, and we have visited, and Georgia is nice. It is fun to try and pronounce Georgia towns
HEYYY I LIVE IN LUDOWICI
you guys should do Massachusetts- Scituate, Gloucester, Cochituate, Worcester, Billerica, Leominster, haverhill, Leicester

Lady at 2:30 is right. Most people I have met pronounce it "Lye-tho-Neeya" - in fact, not sure anyone pronounces it the way the video claims.
Eastanollee always seemed to have lived right on the edge but never technically in Eastanollee. Son did attend Eastanollee Elementary school.
There is also a Cairo in IL, pronounced KAY-roh too. Southern IL (anything south of East St. Louis) might as well be counted as part of the South.
I’m from Georgia, Monroe to be more specific, and couldn’t pronounce quite a few of these.
I said hearing, I meant herding
