0:47 "Because I, too want to become a powerful Mistborn"
Me too lol XD
Elend's death is so tragic, geting beheaded like that in such a gory field T-T
But the ending of Vin and Elend dead holding hands in a field of flowers is so sad and happy at the same time. Both have gone through so much shit and seeing them resting once and for all in such a peaceful place is comforting
Such a rollercoaster of emotions with the ending! So sad but so beautiful
I got tears just by thinking of that fucking biblical scene of elend dying, vin saving the world and then sazed the new god leaving their bodies to rest in a beautiful place
“Kelsier’s shadow looms over Vin and the rest of the crew long after his martyrdom”
😏
Vin will always be one of my favorite characters. There’s a few parts of her psychology that I find very relatable and Brandon manages to write his characters in such a way that at certain moments, the characterization hits you, resonates with you, and doesn’t let go anymore.
For me, that holds true for many of his characters, but certainly also for Vin. And since The Final Empire was my first Brandon Sanderson book, Vin will always be special to me.
I read the Mistborn Trilogy a few years ago, but this video has brought back so much nostalgia and reminded why I love it so much, and subtly want to reread it
Making this video has made me want to reread them haha! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Gosh, Jay, I absolutely loved this new character study video style - so cool! Can't wait to see you deep diving into other characters.
Despite all the magic, all the awe, my favourite part of The Final Empire was Vin and Elend getting to know each other.
Also, you chose some incredible art to illustrate the video!
Vin has to be one of the best fantasy characters to date imo. And this video is fantastic.
The ending was a masterpiece and I cried my whole way through it. I love these character studies!
I just finished the first Mistborne trilogy, my first Brandon Sanderson books as well. I am in LOVE so much HYPE.
Sazed is giga chad. I never saw this coming yet it fits so much. Please more of these. I dont have time for reread and this is perfect way to remind me of this masterpiece
This is a fantastic character break down. I still miss her 😢
I think these videos are great but I would like to see characters like Kelsier or Marsh from Mistborn and Jasnah or Wit. Guaranteed a watch for a Wit study.
Another reason why vin is such a good character is cuz u watch her grow with the story, you learn as she learns and all the while you're in her head you see who she is and what she thinks. All that paired whith Brandon sanderson's genus writing, you get the hurricane that is Vin
On my Cosmere catch up Vin without a doubt is 1 of my fav characters. This was awesome! Hope to stay on target with the catch up so I am ready for Wind and Truth.
Of all my favorite series, Mistborn is the one that I most often forget how much I love. Things like this remind me.
Great video! I would love a character study video about Sazed. For me he was easily my favorite character in the series because I found him so relatable.
Wellll great, now I want to drop everything and start a reread of Mistborn immediately 🤣
This is such a brilliant deep-dive, you deserve to be incredibly proud of this video 🤩Vin is a legendary and beloved character for a good reason!
Vin is possibly my favorite character in any fiction book I’ve ever read. Which is why I’m so conflicted about the ending.
It genuinely crushed me and I feel as if it was one of the best endings I’ve ever read and simultaneously one of the worst (from this readers perspective). One one hand of course the happiness of the characters is implied in the ending but I feel as if the readers (me personally maybe no one else feels this way) was robbed of more time with imo the best character arc in all of Brandon Sandersons works. Where a character essentially gives so much and is hinted at a return, only later for it to be decided never to be.
My view may change as I’m fairly new to the cosmere but the ending genuinely made me bitter and almost made me put down the whole series 😂
Yes, I love this book and Vin soo much 🩷
Vin and her journey legitimately make me emotional from beginning to end
Can you do something on Wax and Wayne? Especially Wayne! Best character Brandon had made in my opinion. I bloody love him!!!
I just finish reading mistborn era one after watching your video fantacy book for beginners and it was hell of a journey,I am also thankful to you🎉😊, for my new interest in fantasy book and todaw I started reading elantris after watching your guide to cosmear ❤, keep makeing such video.😊
I'm so glad you enjoyed mistborn! And I'm happy to help you get you into reading fantasy! 😄 the cosmere is incredible, you have a lot of great adventures ahead. thanks for watching!
Your videos are so well structured and I enjoy these videos in depth character views
Thanks for making these great videos! Excellent work.
Great video, love her character
I felt so deeply connected to Vin and couldn't have read the original Trilogy at a better time then I did. One of the best cosmere characters for sure!
Thank you for this! I finished the series about a month ago and on my way into work today I thought about how I missed scadriel and vin and the others. This brought me back into it all! Wonderful job Jay!
Your last videos are incredible, please keep up the good work
Fantastic job. Love this deep dive and hope we get more!!
This was fantastic and incredible... I really enjoyed how detailed and we'll put together everything was thanks Jay!
Absolutely fantastic video
Makes me want to re read Mistborn
Amazing :-) You continue to outdo yourself man.
I just finished re-reading the trilogy and Sanderson‘s ability to tie together so many complex plot threads is just mind blowing to me. Not to mention creating some of the most endearing and memorable characters in all of fantasy.
I only read Mistborn yet and didn't know about the whole Adonalsium story. Therefore, I really liked your Cosmere Classified :) But maybe that's a reason, this particular video is not performing so great yet? Not everyone can directly connect it to the specific Cosmere Series. Keep up the good work, your videos are the best around youtube!
Very well done video! Loved it. I'm just starting a reread and this was a great refresher.
Glad it was helpful! :) I'll be making more Mistborn character studies soon!
Was waiting for this......💥💥💥💥 Superb work ❤
Superb excited for kelsier video 🔥🔥
Thank you, glad you enjoyed! 😄 will definitely make a similar video on Kelsier too
@@CapturedInWords i am a cosmere fan because of you, i started reading cosmere after seeing your "beginners guide for fantasy" and "ultimate cosmere order ".
No one make/can make cosmere videos like you. All d very best ❤️
Please do a Kelsier one up to date🙏
I went through the same experience with Zane. At first, he was the character I disliked the most, and by a long shot. It just felt like a forced love triangle plot that came out of nowhere and was a major annoyance in what is my favorite book of the original trilogy (WoA). I hated him more than Straff, even. Eventually I grew to appreciate his greater role on Vin's character development arc, though.
Kelsier video would be great to watch too man!! Killer job with this video.
Character study of kel?? Hell yeah!
Welp, time to read Mistborn again.
I like the video thumbnail, who made that for you?
0:25 I hope you’ll make analysis videos about every character in Brandon Sanderson’s books, and maybe about the characters in Patrick Rothfuss's books.
Maybe not every character (that would be A LOT of work!), but I would love to see a Dalinar deep dive at some point (:
@@LuisGustavoBD That's why I said that I hope he'll do that, he doesn't have to do that if it'll be too much work.
Hot take! Vin is basically like Rey from the Force Awakens, but written right! They have a lot in common, but clearly Vin is loved, while the other is disliked.
I actually never hated Zane. I didn’t trust him. And I never thought of it as a love triangle. (I despise love triangles and have ever since stupid Jacob when I was a teenager and read the twilight series 😂). I thought Zane was interesting. I wish I could’ve had more from his perspective. I love his (non) insanity. It was fun.
Do one on bashed but include theory’s he’s so cool
I didn't know where else to reach you but since this is a fresh video you might check out the comment.
i heard this song and i must absolutely share it with you.
"Time Unplugged by Bernth"
Don't you think this could be the perfect opening to a Name of the wind show?
Hello ! Would it be possible for you to add the artist credits of the art you show on screen ?
I know this is unrelated...but can you talk about this odd fantasy world called Gensokyo, from the Touhou games....WARNING...IT CAN GET WILD!
I want to watch this but I'm not done with the series yet, but comment for algo
Appreciate the comment! This video has spoilers for the first 3 Mistborn books, but not any other Cosmere books :)
I never liked Vin to be honest. I found her to be an attempt at complexity, but one that fell short. For most of book 1, I got bored really quick with the “I trust nobody” trope for her as it defined everything she was and she seemed very one dimensional. The only answers we get as to why she is this way is her brother and some vague references to the abuse she suffered by her crew. We get precious little of her actual backstory (unlike say the three main characters from the SLA) and I felt her progression from book 1 onward to be very cookie cutter.
Her relationship with Elend was also very problematic for me. Their relationship felt very hollow and given very little depth/exploration. Aside from his charm, I didn’t understand why Vin fell for Elend in book 1. Sure, there was that bit where Elend reveals he was a noble who actually gave two cents about the Skaa, but I saw no reason why Vin fell in love with him. Look at Adohlin and Shallan in SLA. Very early in their courting, we get clear signs of physical attraction, and more emotional attraction as they get to know each other. Adohlin likes how Shallan is witty, doesn’t treat him like an idiot, and finds her very distinct and different from traditional Alethi women (who are curvaceous, political players, etc.). Likewise, Shallan shows physical attraction for Adohlin and likes how he is eager to understand her theories, not judge her harshly, and his overall kindness. Their relationship feels very real and compelling. Vin and Elend by contrast feel very flat, and they end up together because of vague reasoning. Sure, book 2 has the brief and limited conflict where Vin feels she is unworthy of Elend, but he never seems to doubt her and it’s because of no-Elend situation/reason that Vin overcomes this.
I also find Elend to be far more compelling and interesting throughout his progression compared to Vin. He starts out as the idealist with good and bold arguments for a better world, quickly gets a reality check and actively strives for improvement. His growth sees some significant effects and who Elend is by book 3 feels different, earned, and a boost compared to where he was at in Book 1, whereas Vin feels static after her realizations of being a “knife.”
Truth be told, I feel Sanderson has written better female protagonists elsewhere in the Cosmere (Warbreaker, Emperor’s Soul, SLA, etc.). Vin’s power and innate talent with Alomancy does not make her a great character IMO.
In your personal opinion. For me and others Vin is a great character.
dont read the comments. jeezus do you not have moderators?
The analysis is good, but I thought it was very lazy on your part that you did not delve into a very important aspect of Vin as a character: her role as a teacher: 1) Vin taught Kelsier that not all nobles are bad and that there were goodness in some of them. 2) He taught Tensoon to abandon his misanthropy and take into account the goodness of human beings, in addition to the concepts of love and friendship ("She was my first and last teacher" said Tensoon in Era 2). He taught Elend that the skaa had humanity and to deal better with their insecurities. Every time Elend has an insecurity, Vin gives him advice that helps Elend deal with it. And so on.
Bruh wtf spoiler tags please wtf
I mean... What exactly were you expecting clicking on a 30-min deep dive character study video, that it was going to be completely spoiler free?
@@LuisGustavoBD nah, i read the first book. but some sort of warning before or after his ad wouldve been fair.
The whole story of Vin/Kelsier is the white savior trope. It is too repetitive and boring.
Vin is awesome, but Sazed is my absolute favorite. Great video.
I'll definitely be making one of these for Sazed in the future too 😉

Today we're doing a Mistborn deep dive to talk about one of the most recognizable characters Brandon Sanderson has created! This is my character study of Vin.
