India, the spiritual seat, has given such enlightened gems to the world, who have shown the true path to reach the One Almighty, to lead the mankind to achieve greater glory through self-improvement and spread the message of harmony, universal love and prosperity for all. Punjab, the land of ever flowing rivers, lush green, fertile lands, colourful culture and traditions, the land of patriots with immense love for the motherland thus gave birth to another Saint, “Satguru Darshan Das Ji”. Born on 7th December 1953, in the Brahmin (Vasdev) family of proud parents; father Pandit Jaganath and mother Channan Devi, child Darshan was a blessed soul. Brought up in a simple, spiritual and patriotic family, Satguru Darshan Das Ji inherited all the qualities of the parents. He was ably initiated by them to develop true love for poor and destitute, recognise the universality of religion and seek communal harmony. Though blessed by the Holy Spirit at a tender age of 13, the young child was still some years away to understand the message of the father, ‘The Almighty’. The Holy Spirit reappeared when Satguru Darshan Das Ji, now 17 years of age, recognised ‘Him’, himself and finally on 15th August 1971, started spreading the message of “His Father”, healing hearts, bodies and souls through his spiritual discourses and ‘Naam Dan’ ; the holy mantra, regular recitation of which helps us to connect with ‘The One’. He preached and practiced love, respect and genuine care for all mankind. He believed in self-improvement through self-discipline and strict abstinence from all vices. In order to enhance the reach of his message, Satguru Darshan Das Ji thus laid the foundation of “Das Dharam” on 16th Feb. 1980. He started his mission with the slogan of ” Nanak Naam Chardi Kala, Tere Bhane Sarbat Da Bhala.” ‘By the grace of Nanak (The Almighty), may everyone live in peace and prosperity!’ Under his able guidance and inspirational leadership, the message soon spread to other states as well. With his relentless efforts - Das Dharam in next two decades made its presence felt in England as well. Apart from being a spiritual and Holy Soul, he was also a great social reformer and patriot to the core. A true son of the soil, he believed that God can only be attained while still being in human body. Dedication, integrity, self discipline and self improvement are the only paths that ultimately achieve self awakening. He preached us to recognise that Self which will then connect us to immediate family, to friends and hence to society and the country as a whole. Being a true Nationalist, India had a very special place in his heart, ‘Darshan De Dil Vich, Dil Hindustan Da’ he wrote and for the safety, security and a secular India, he ultimately sacrificed everything and attained martyrdom on 11 Nov. 1987 in England. In a short span of three decades ‘ The Christ of India’ Satguru Darshan Das Ji gave to the world a new direction and gave the word “Dharam” an altogether new dimension, all encompassing, eternal, a bond which connects all his creation ; mankind, vegetatian, animals and birds, the entire universe. A great poet, a social reformer and thinker. His Bani (holy hymns) have been very immaculately preserved in ‘Yashwanti Niradhar’ the holy scripture of Kant Darshan Darbar.
