Create A 'Wheel of Fortune' Spinning Name Selector in PowerPoint
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- In this tutorial I'll show you how to align shapes radially in a circle with exact accuracy so that you can create an animated spinning wheel of names or text that can be used in Microsoft PowerPoint as, for example, a random student name picker.
** Please note that if using an older version of PowerPoint (2006 or earlier) you will need to make the change below **
I have discovered that this can be an issue for older versions of PowerPoint. The solution is to add a slide before the wheel slide, with an automatic transition to the next slide set to as short a time as you can - 0.2 seconds. Then add a button on the wheel slide that says 'Reset' that links back to the first slide. When you play the presentation the first slide won't even be seen because it will transition straight to the wheel slide, and then when you click the reset button you'll find that the wheel resets and the result is always random.

Absolutely brilliant! This is a fantastic idea with easy to follow, step by step instructions. I've been a trainer/facilitator for over 30 years and I had no idea this tool was so easy to make. It will be extremely helpful in the classroom and avoid the impression of playing favorites or "picking on" certain students. I love it! Thank you so much.
Thanks a lot for putting this here! It’s a big help, and you explained it in a way that a viewer can duplicate what you did or make their own because your instructions were clear and complete.
AMAZING! Clear and concise instructions that only a complete dunce would not be able to follow! Thank you
Thank you for the very easy-to-follow directions! This worked great!
Thank you so much. So easy to follow along and make it with you! Probably one of the fastest and easiest tutorials I have found. Will check out your others!
Thank you so much for the help! This video was sooo helpful. I created a spinning wheel for our office and everyone loved it. Appreciate the guidance and support.
I'm so glad, and thank you for your support.
Very well presented, clear and easy to understand. Well done!
Actually if you put equal numbers to all chat parts it will distribute itself the radial space for each segment and they will be equal. So you don't have to do that math, just put 1 to each cell in right column
Thank you so so much! Your tutorial is just perfect.
Glad it was helpful!
Instructions were clear and easy to follow, thank you!!
OMG I really enjoyed watching you do this!
Great video and thank you for sharing this with us. I create a wheel while listening, pausing, listening and it was difficult. Thanks again for the step-by-step tutorial.
I'm very glad you found it useful
Very good, and excellent explanation/narrative - thank you
Thank you, I'm very glad you liked it.
Love it - thanks very much! Very easy to follow instructions, now have my own wheel of fortune! :-)
Thanks for this great quick and easy tutorial!
You're very welcome!
This was an extremely good video presentation. Really liked it.
Hello there! Could you tell me how to stop the wheel? It keeps moving round and round. Thank you!
Thank you Alessandra, I'm so glad you liked it.
It's covered in the video Suad.
Thank you sir for this video. It helped me to inprove my presentation a lot
Thank you so much! This was so easy to follow. You are an awesome teacher. :)
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful.
I am so happy i found this channel last summer. I've learnt so much and created so many new games for my classes this year. Thank you so much for sharing all those wonderful ideas. Keep them coming. Especially during this long summer holiday when we have so much time on our hands to try new things. 🍹🌻😂
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I am really glad you're finding this channel useful, and I certainly have many more ideas planned to be sharing on here very soon!
Can u please share those games
@@TheTechTrain the name of the student is repeating. I linked a 1st slide to the reset option. Still I am getting the same
Thanks for the super helpful and detailed instructions. You mentioned about midway through that you had an idea for how to use the empty spaces on the wheel (if the class isn't full), but then you didn't tell us what that idea was?
Hello Sandra, I'm so glad you like the tutorial. I'm sorry I must have completely forgotten to mention those ideas. One easy idea is to put a sweet or some other treat as a prize for whoever is chosen next, for example. another idea is to have a free life line be available for the next person chosen. Effectively the blank spaces become extra rewards for whoever is chosen next. I hope this helps.
That was indeed useful. Thank you so much! 💓
Thank you! Just what I needed. I've learnt a lot.
You're very welcome, and I'm so glad you found it useful
I swear you are the best even my Microsoft word is in arabic but I did it pretty well thank you so much❤️
Wonderful! Thank you so much for the clear and informative tutorial.
Thank you, I am so glad you liked it!
Thank you so much bro for this ❤️😍tut
Thank you so much for taking the time!!
Thank you so much, great for online learning
Excellent tutorial! Well done.
Thank you!
A big thank you for this really useful walkthrough...I've been trying to do this for years. A*
Thank you very much! And greetings from Croatia!
You're very welcome! And greetings to Croatia from the UK!
Thank you so much for sharing your great content. You have no idea how much I needed this and how excited I am to start using it. The way you explain on the video is so clear and easy to follow I created my wheel at the first try along with your video. I really appreaciate your work.
Thank you so much, I'm very glad you liked it
Very Helpful. Thanks for sharing your craft
Excellant. Thank you just created step by step. The only issue i am trying to resolve a wonky spinner. I have tried stretching my wheel but it doesnt spin as prefectly as yours.
That can happen when you've converted your chart to a group of circles, if you haven't aligned it correctly over the centre point, or if you have inadvertently included an extra line or shape when grouping the segments.
Thank you very much !!!!!!!
Wow this is so cool I like it how do you get that thing is it in your phone or an iPad or a computer or a TV or are you just making fire on and take a video. I am a kid. Good bye
i can't convert my chart because when i pastespecial, there is only 3 option showed (picture (TIFF),PDF & microsoft office Graphic project) none of them is metafile. is there any other way to convert it? please and thank you sir.
btw mine is powerpoint 2019, thanks.
I'm using the same version of PowerPoint and that option is still listed. Make sure you're cutting the graph, and then don't right-click - use the bottom half of the Paste button in the Ribbon. You should get that pop up window which includes the Metafile as an option.
Awesome tutorial! Helped me put together a wheel of fortune game for my class ‼️
I'm so glad you liked it Lissa
Thank you soooo much! This video was so helpful. The instructions were clear and very easy to follow!! Fantastic!
Wonderful! Thank you.
This was a fantastic tutorial! My only issue is that for some reason when my wheel spins, it spins wobbly. Has anyone else had this issue? I know I did something wrong but I have no idea what. lol
That will probably be because when you grouped the wheel segments you included an extra shape or outline. Try ungrouping the segments and then checking how many shapes were actually selected. If it's more than the number of segments then you know you've got an extra item which could make it spin off centre.
Hmm, same happening
I really appreciate your help with creating the wheel! 🙏🙏🙏 The instructions are the easiest to follow, and I very much admire how you use the tools in Excel. Brilliant!!! 👍👍👍👏👏👏 Many thanks indeed!!!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
This is a great and easy to create wheel. Thank you for sharing. I've had to watch a few times but I think I have it down now, after making several different wheels for different contests. They are always fun and engaging.
I'm so glad you found it helpful Nancy Tropea
Thanks alot, it did help me!!!
thank you so much. i created my own wheel. that was awesome.
This is a shame that this is how the quality of the channel with quality contents has a bit of subsribera and views. Way to go, and thank you for making me a lot of things learned!!!
I'm very glad you found it useful! Subscribers and views are steadily growing - feel free to share and spread the word!
Excellent and very helpful. thx
This is fantastic!! I made the wheel, ready to put the names on, but for some reason the wheel doesn't spin. I have the wheel as a group, added animation as spin & appear. To try & find my mistake I have changed the trigger to the arrow,, etc. Nothing. When I click on the wheel all I get is the options of changing names, etc. Trying to figure out what I did wrong.
Great tutorial, thanks so much!! Quick question - is there a way alter the spinner so that once you've landed on a name, that name is eliminated from the next slide/spin?
Hi. Very great video. What if i dont want it random and want it in a specific order, but ofcourse my students wouldn't know?
You could certainly do that using code. I'd create an array, and then each time you click the soon button the wheel would spin a certain amount, corresponding to the next value in an array. I'm actually working on a new video at the moment which takes this name spinner much further, including 3D, and part of it will cover that sort of thing.
I need my wheel to stop at certain points. When I click to make it stop its jumping to another spot. Any thoughts?
Excellent, thank you for the simple, clear explanation. I am going to try that creating multiple layers for cascade choices
Thank you! Excellent tutorail - I created my spinner as I was watching you and it worked perfectly. Thanks so much!
It is very helpful for me thank you.How to take this in google slide ?
Thank you so much! That is truly a fantastic video; great explanation and pacing. You are clearly an effective educator. Cheers sir!
Thank you so much for your kind comment. I'm very glad you like it
thank you for sharing your idea
You're very welcome!
Since last week, I have been looking for a random name generator that I can use for my report this week to keep my classmates' attention during the presentation. This is one is the best, if not the best. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! Why does it appear that my wheel is spinning in a circular fashion instead of the center of the wheel staying stationery and spinning from the center? I only have 8 wedges.
Tried doing this in Neat Office Impress but the animation just starts and stops on the original number. Not random at all. Also it isn't continuous it skips to the next slide.
I'm not familiar with that package I'm afraid. This was built in Microsoft Office.
Thanks again ^^
This was so helpful! I actually made 3 different spinners on one slide for a math lesson on shape attributes. Thank you!!
Glad it helped!
Oh!!!
This is probably the easiest to follow tutorial I have ever tried. Thank you very much!
That was amazing! Thank you. I tried it first on my Mac and realized that the 2019 version of pp doesn’t allow developer tab so luckily I have a windows computer lying around. Thanks again!
I'm so glad you liked it, and I hope you find it useful.
I am so upset they took the developer tab from Mac. :( I can't do this
Very good How can I add a questions to the students name if i want to have one, like i want to know that after the wheel stops I want that selected student to answer a particular question so I want to add that question
wow thanks this was amazing
Hello! Thank you for this tutorial, I've managed to create a great wheel for my classes! But it seems like it's bugging now, it's always ending on the same category, no matter how long I let it spin, or where I click... Have you had that kind of bugs before? What would you advise? Thanks in advance!!
Great tutorial. I have one error on my powerpoint. It always spins to the same name. Is there a way to fix that?
Same here, were you using a image?
@@ashwika4782 I have the same problem. It stops on the same name. Can anyone help?
THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! This was awesome!
Hello! I used your tutorial to make one of my video's. While I didn't show any of your video content I would love to make a reference to your video. Is that okay?
Hello sir as i followed the instruction at first i dont have any problem following you then after when i reach those animation i dont have add animation but i only have add Effect thats the one that i use coz its the same thing as what you have in this video but everytime i clicked the mouse inside the spinning wheel it wont spin.. i dont know.. please help. thank you so much.
I'm afraid that without seeing the file it's very difficult for me to diagnose the issue.
Thanks for the reply sir..
Is there a way to remove names after they've been selected so they won't be selected more than once?
Not using this method I'm afraid.
Thanks so much! Your video is helpful and plain, fantastic job you've done there! Cheers!
Thank you so much, I'm very glad you liked it
Fantastic tutorial! I needed a wheel with numbers, so I went ahead and put them in as my category names on the pie chart so that I didn't have to mess with inserting them later. Thank you!
sir if we don`t have group 100 than we can take goup 9 sir please answer
You can make this with almost any size group - just make sure when you're creating your pie chart that you have the number of entries you need.
You could have done that SO MUCH FASTER using a macro. You would only have to write the macro once, give it a list and let it generate the student name text boxes and replace each one with a name.
0:48 Subbed so quick. I'm nearly 70 but love learning new stuff. Thanks.
First tutorial I went through step-by-step and everything worked just as you said (and I love the accent). Thank you.
Thank you. Great help.
Wonderful tutorial; however, looks like it doesn't work for Mac. I chose paste special and the only options are:
PDF
Picture (TIFF)
Microsoft Office Graphic Object
There are no JPEG, Metafile, Enhanced metafile, PNG etc. that windows users seem to enjoy....
I tried all three options: Group and Ungroup option doesn't work.
It's great! Thank you for your tutorial. I have a problem that how do make sure that the student name will not be selected again.
Hi, thank you so much for this great video! I need to make one for kindergarten game and l am struggling to add pictures instead of text boxes. It doesn.t work somehow for me.. Could you please give some advice on that?
Excellent. Thank you. Now that I am teaching in Zoom, my students are silent. This is absolutely perfect and easy to follow.
Thanks for this tutorial. Is there a way for it not to select the same name over and over? I have around 12 students and i've had instances where it chooses the same student 3 or 4 times in a row after a re-spin which is sometimes annoying ;)
Check out the note in the description - you may need to add the extra step.
Thank you so much for creating this tutorial! I really enjoyed and benefitted from it 🤩
Thank you so much, I'm very glad you liked it
Thank you. Appreciate it very much ;)
You're very welcome!
OMG... This video was so easy to follow. Thank you for taking your time to create this. Subscribed
Thank you! I'm so glad you liked it. I'm actually working on a video at the moment that takes this idea much further - including 3D - so make sure you look out for that!
This is awesome! The strangest thing though, my wheel wobbles and doens't stay fixed on the screen when I spin it. Any ideas on how to fix it?
mine did this also - you need to anchor the circle into an aligned position using the red gridlines. if you anchor it into the centre of the slide, you should see a red anchoring line going straight from top to bottom and left to right - hope this helps
Great video! Is there a way to trigger the spinning using a laser pointer (i.e start/stop the spinning using a pointer)?
Hi there - brilliant tutorial, but I do have a question: my spinning wheel doesn’t seem to be spinning from a central pivot point, but rather rotates slightly off, so it looks like it’s moving... Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
That happens because the centre of the wheel isn't actually the visual centre. This can be caused by increasing the size of the text in one segment making it uneven, or not aligning the segments correctly at the start.
Can you help with adding a sound effect while the wheel is spinning and then the sound stops when the wheel stops? I'm having challenges figuring that out. Thank you.
This is such a great video - your explanation was clear and easy to follow, you have the perfect voice and speed for instructional videos. Thank you! You also didn't take hours to do it, just the amount of time it actually takes. Looking forward to seeing more from you.
I created my own spinner based on your instructions, I am trying to "embed" it into my LMS Bulletin Board, but having trouble with the code - either the spinner will not spin or it stops on the same wedge each time. Any suggestions?
I don't know which LMS you're using, but I imagine most will block or remove any VBA code in a PowerPoint file I'm afraid. It's designed to be standalone, running straight from the computer.
Briliant! I have created a 32 piece wheel & shared with colleagues! Thank you
I'm so glad you found it useful, and I hope you and your colleagues enjoy using it.
Great tutorial. Thanks a lot. I'd like to complicate the wheel a bit and am curious about the way of doing it. I'd like to have the questions hidden and only when the wheel stops get the question or picture appear. Any idea how to do so? The reason behind it is that I have 7 year olds who won't wait until the wheel stops but will give answers to all sectors straight away.
Rusty Chesley, I have a suggestion but it won’t be quite as smooth as you’ve envisioned. My thought is as follows:
1. On the slide with the wheel, you could make a column of buttons each of which would hyperlink to a slide with a question or picture.
2. When a random child is selected by the wheel, that child could come to the board and select a button which would cause the game to jump to a corresponding slide in your presentation.
3. Each of these pages would need a button that would hyperlink back to the slide with the wheel. The easiest way I know to take care of this is to create the button (with the hyperlink) on a blank slide and then copy that slide over and over in preparation for your questions.
4. If I have misunderstood your question I apologize.
P.S. Incase you haven’t tried them before, hyperlinks are super easy to do.
P.P.S. Best of luck with your 7 year-olds and kind regards from Texas.
Thank you very much for this helpful tutorial. I made a great activity for my virtual class.
Glad it helped!
very simple to follow instructions, i think i am using a different version of power point, but it still worked great!
I'm so glad you liked it!
Then enhanced picture metafile doesn't appear as an option on my laptop (mac) any idea why?
Unfortunately EMF is not a format supported by Macs. The closest type for a Mac would be a PDF, which wouldn't work I'm afraid. Sorry, I think this is a Windows only option.
Just brilliant! So clearly explained so that non-tech people can easily follow. Many thanks!
Thanks a bunch for this. Very informative and helpful.❤️❤️
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!
That was really useful and well explained. Thank you.
If you follow every direction you need to be patient, especially if you are using a large number, it will happen, just WAIT!!!
