Former Western employee here. I've been restoring, repairing, and working on Western knives for many years. You nailed the restoration of this knife. I like.... 😎
I'm glad you like how it turned out Robert!
I'm sure you make an old soldier proud.
Thanks Jack!
Excellent work Magdad. This truly honors a veteran and preserves a piece of history. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks John! This knife was definitely worth the effort!
Its not about restoring Western G46 its the Historical Significance on where that knife has been and the great man who own it and sailing to all those Islands in WW2 and made it home safe love to know what ship he served on .... Mr Magdad that has to be one of your best Restorations to date .... Happy Easter take care see you next Sunday
I will ask Dixie, My neighbor, what ship he sailed on during the war....
@@AndyM. Hey Thanks that would be GREAT
Thanks Roger! This was definitely one of my more challenging projects!
You honored that veteran that originally owned that knife. Glad that his locations were saved, what an impressive list. Beautiful work, congratulations! Happy Easter!
I agree
Thanks Larry! Happy Easter!
That was just an amazing job! Being a knife collector plus a WWII buff this was especially fun to watch! GREAT JOB!
Thanks John! I bet this knife could tell some stories...
Wow! That was a lot of effort! It came out great, but I was not sure it was worth it until you showed us the engraving. Now we see it is a priceless piece of history that certainly deserved all your hard work! Well done!
Learning how to do something new is always worth the effort! My experience will come in handy for the next stacked leather project I tackle.
Outstanding video! You did a great job. What a wonderful thing to see this piece of history live on.
Thanks Jim! It is definitely a keeper!
Now that's a hero's fighting knife. You did a great job.
Thanks! It was a challenging project!
I thought the job you did on that handle was fantastic. What a great job! Nice video and enjoyed the ending with the fellows name and seeing all those islands he went to. The Things R.C. Tedder must have seen.
Thanks! I wish I knew more about R.C Tedder.
Really nice restoration. I have a collection of several WWII and Viet Nam era knives. That's a perfect item for honoring your neighbor's stepfather. I'm sure both are proud of it.
Thanks Wayne!
Great job on bringing the handle back to it's former glory!!!
Thanks Phil!
Awesome Magdad! What a tribute! Priceless 🇺🇸
Thanks Stan! It is a cool piece of history!
You did an impeccable job. Not only is it beautiful. It honors those who used it and those who fought for our freedom. Thanks for sharing the video and as always excellent job.
Thanks ToolScouter! This was a challenging project! I'm glad it turned out OK!
What an awesome piece of history and you brought it back to life beautifully.
Thanks Terry!
I love the handle. I like the present colour better than the original, looks more like a leather colour.
Well done. Quite a labour of love for this historic knife.
Dave.
Thanks Dave! It was a challenging project! It's gonna be a while before I try another stacked leather handle!
A+ for effort. A+ for your craftsmanship. It’s beautiful. My father always said, how good a craftsman you are is how well you cover up your mistakes. Thank You
Thanks! This project was challenging!
Great job giving that great piece of history a new lease on life. The leather handle came out great 👍.
Thanks Kim! It was one of my more challenging projects!
Holy crap, that's by far the best stacked leather handle I've ever seen. Phenomenal job!!

Thanks! It was a challenging project!
Your challenge is teaching the rest of us.
My dad made a sheath knife from a file and added a leather handle. I might need to go restore it now.
A lot of sanding. Understatement for the year. Near the end I thought I was watching " The Right Stuff". I wonder what ship he served on. Terrific job by the way 😊.
Thanks Cory! It would be cool to learn more about R.C. Tedder.
I’m sure Andy will love the way you did the handle. I know I did! Fantastic job! 👍👍
I LOOOOOVE IT!

Thanks David!
You get a thumbs up just for the title! 😁. I will have to watch after church! 👍👍👍
I hope you enjoy the video! Happy Easter!
Outstanding results. I would never have thought to stain and use poly on leather.
Thanks! I Googled it and it sounded like it would work.
It turned out great. It looks beautiful. I’m sure he’s going to be thrilled with the end result.
I AM!!!!
Thanks! I hope so!
Another meticulous and beautifully done restoration, Magdad. Kudos!
Thanks Roy!
Aye yi yi!! That wasn't looking very promising at first!! You pulled if from the depths of despair, your persistent paid off!! Well done Bud!!☻
Thanks RoadKing! I got a little worried when the leather turned black, but I couldn't let my buddy Andy and R.C Tedder down!
Excellent work Magdad, a lot of work though, too bad about the staining from the wet sanding, glad you managed to retrieve the situation, it looked spot on ! I'm sure Andy must be thrilled with the result !
I LOOOOOVE it!
Thanks Andy! This was a challenging project!
Completely amazing handle, and what a history lesson and/or time capsule!
Thanks Chris!
Well that turned out even better than expected. I knew you'd do a good job but wow, it's just fantastic!
Thanks! It was a challenging project!
You did a super nice job. And restored a piece of history. This is what restorations all about.
Thanks Allen! I bet this knife could tell some stories!
Fantastic job. I love the feel of these handles when the leather is like suede, just after shaping.
Thanks!
Wow! I know it was a lot of work, but that is definitely something to be proud of, Great work!
Thanks! It was a challenging project!
Excellent! Tricky job with a great result. Looks almost NOS.
Thanks! I wanted it to look like the original.
OMG! It looks great! I've made a lot of knife scales and handles but I've never leather. Great job Magdad!
Thanks! It was a challenging project. I definitely learned a few things that will help me on the next one!
That knife tells a great story and you and Andy did a great job! Happy Easter!
Thanks Tony! Happy Easter!
As far as I am concerned that handle turned out most excellent sir. Thanks for the video .
Thanks Terry!
That looks FANTASTIC!!!!!! Came out better than I expected.
Thanks Elliot!
That certainly came out fantastic, how cool is that with all the islands engraved. As other have said it is worthy of a display case. Hopefully someone in the comments will know the exact issue that blackened the leather.
Thanks Pat! It is worthy of display!
Fantastic job Magdad!
Thanks Steve!
This video helped me very much in making a leather handle for my Ontario sp1.
I attached the buttcap the same way as this knife 👍
I'm glad my video was helpful! I'd love to see photos of your project! 357mdad@gmail.com
Happy Easter 357magdad! That is an awesome job on a knife that is priceless in more ways than one. Wow! I am sure Andy & R.C. Tedder will like it & appreciate the time and work effort you put into this!
I LOOOOOVE it!
Thanks Jeff! It was a challenging project!
@@357magdad I could clearly see that. Also I went to Andy M.’s channel and watched it … He did a really good job at restoring and preserving both!
A lot of work but well worth it looking at the end result. You really honored his Grandfather well. Excellent!👍🏻 USA!
Thanks Mike!
That came out looking fantastic!
Thanks!
That turned out wonderfully. I really like the colour of the handle, but to be honest I also liked the way the black looked. You did that thing justice. Well done!
Thanks Martin! I considered leaving it black.
I turned a few pens with leather I stacked from a belt that belonged to my uncle before he passed away. I already knew from experience that the leather was gonna be a bastard to grind down. You nailed it, that handle looks better than new.
Thanks! The leather was tough to sand!
Outstanding restoration MagDad! I was so excited the moment I saw the thumbnail as I instantly recognized this knife. I owned a knife of nearly the exact same pattern and era only mine was manufactured by the Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. NY. The pummel on mine was about 3x thicker and had crude checkering on the end, otherwise nearly identical to yours. You did a fantastic job overall and really saved the handle finish from blackening caused by the wet/dry. No worries! What a great piece of history this knife is. This is one of my favorite videos of yours.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I was pretty discouraged when the leather turned black. I'm glad it worked out in the end.
Very impressive as always Magdad. I think anyone would be proud to own that knife! 🗡👍🇺🇸
Thanks Roger! It is definitely a keeper!
Very cool knife and restore.
Thanks Gator!
After seeing it done with the island engravings I'd make it a show piece with a case
I agree!
A beautiful piece of history.
I agree! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely outstanding over the top job well done !
Thanks ScoutCrafter! This was a challenging project! I was pretty discouraged when the leather turned black. I'm glad it turned out OK! I definitely learned a lot!
This was a wonderful restoration. Technically interesting as always, but also providing a glimpse into one man's personal journey through a momentous period in history
It was very interesting to discover, by the way, how simple (when you've seen it done!) leatherwork like this on a knife handle turns out to be
Best wishes. Patrick
Thanks Patrick! I learned a lot on this stacked leather knife handle that I hope to apply to future projects.
Oh, and I loved Tip Toe Out The Back 😊.
I just picked up one of these the other day, and I've been trying to find info on restoring it, especially the handle. This is so very helpful! Great video.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad my video was helpful!
You are a brave man wearing a nice shirt while gluing up the handle. Great Job!
Thanks Don! I have two flannel "shop shirts" one red and one blue that I got from Cabelas 20+ years ago. Mrs Magdad has patched both many times!
MG, I missed this when originally posted. Over the top restoration!!! Nice recovery from the silicon carbide staining.
Thanks John! This was a challenging project!

That's a wonderful piece of history and I'm positive being a veteran myself that the original owner would be very pleased with your restoration of his knife. Nice job Magdad!
Thanks Ivan and thank you for your service!
Anything that brings to mind what those people did …the sheer loyalty and guts on both sides shows what people can do right or wrong…🖖🏻
