As soon as I clicked on this video, I started crying. It's been about 24 years since I left this small, but peaceful, beautiful city. I was the first Korean kid to study in Lake Charles and everyone who saw me asked me if I was Chinese or Japanese, and if I answered Korean, they asked back if I was North Korean lol It's the happiest place I've ever lived and I want to go back the most. Thank you for sharing the clips. Thank you.
I love your story! I'm so glad that you love our city. We are still a great city with extremely nice and friendly people. You need to come back and visit sometime!
Wow! 1998…That’s when Lake Charles was vibrant and full of life…😁 I met a girl from Thailand and we laughed because many thought she was Chinese😂 but she explained that she is having a great and joyous experience as well and it makes me proud and happy that anyone from anywhere can come here and feel welcomed.
Love this video!! I grew up in Oklahoma but did college in lake Charles at McNeese. Music school to be more specific. Was the mid 80s and I played in a local band called "The Cruisers" I was the sax player. I was mostly on scholarship so I didn't have to do a day job...just worked my weekend gigs. Mostly at the Hilton on the lake. Was a very good band. Many of those guys (and KJ Fruge) are still in business today. So I spent a lot of time doings this exact thing. Driving around Lake Chuck enjoying this great town. I had an apartment on Oak Park Blvd across from the hospital but would get up on Sundays to n the afternoon and grab a meatball poboy at Tony's and watch football games then drive around Charlie town in my huge grey station wagon doing this same thing. Just driving and had an profound appreciation for this town that I landed in. Teared up when you drove by OBs on Ryan St. Band played there many times and will never forget Thursday nights there. 25 cent beer and the sorority girls were there in Mass. Such great times. When we go back to visit family now, I have to take a drive around town alone just to remind me of the great life I had in Lake Charles.
Oh Wow, that must've been a long time ago because as there hasn't been those apartments across from LC Memorial Hospital in years. It's a parking lot now. I do remember those apartments, though. I think they were called the Julia Apartments, but I might be mistaken. Do you remember when 'Miss Molly and the Whips' and her band played at Downtown Annie's and were arrested for 'lewd' behavior? LOL, I still remember that one.
Yes, beautiful city. Lake Charles is the fifth- largest incoporated city in the U.S. state of Luisiana , and the parish seat of Calcasieu Parish, located on Lake Charles , Prien Lake, and the Calcasieu River. Nice relaxing ride. Thanks for the beautiful video and virtual tour from Chicago, Illinois.
Great drive down memory lane. I grew up here and still love it. Downtown has changed a lot since early 2000. Southwest Side is not as changed except from the hurricanes. I always thought I'd go back but now that I'm older I couldn't handle running everytimea hurricane came through.
Oh at this point in time ya really can’t since those areas they don’t fix them the areas in lake Charles they fix is maybe the schools and white side of town
Connie Harbin ~ I soo agree with you. At 62 I hate it here because of the hurricanes, and they seem to come more frequently and stronger than the last one. I wish I could afford to move away like you did. The only good thing is I get to live rent-free because I live with and take care of my elderly mother.
Currently I live over the bridge but Lake Charles was my birth town and no matter how many times I go in and out I always have the fondest of memories .
I'm from Lake Charles, but live in Texas, that will always be home for me,I used to work at the big bank,it used to be Hibernia Tower,it's 22 floors,I was an Officer and Seargeant there,I love Lake Charles,it hurts so bad to see what they had to go through,God bless them all
LC needs money. The businesses that make large amounts of money don't put the money back into the city, that goes for Westlake and Sulphur as well. All the refineries around here... There is no way this area should have a problem with bouncing back, not even from storms like this. Officials should have made that a recommendation kind of like the deal made with the casinos but one that is much beneficial to the city.
Thank you !! I used to work at L'auberge and lived in Lake Charles now residing in Thailand Hopefully one day I can go back there Thank you for your Video
I appreciate you for using your signal light😂. Hopefully, when you decide to tour again, Lake Charles restoration from the recent hurricane will have much more progress. I, myself, have to give a tour 2morrow.

i live here and it is not so good a town/city. we are still trying to recover from the hurricanes and floods. many home are rotting and the city is out of money so they can't rip them down. there are more and more crime now and sex offenders with drug and homeless people walking the streets. most people just up and left after the hurricanes. insurance companies only paid a little and % down everything. people started to rebuild then delta hit, they started over again when the insurance really didn't want to pay people that paid all the while. as soon as they got started fixing things the flood hit us. people had to throw their new items out and rip down walls again and insurance companies would not pay. but one area got so bad the city paid everyone to move out and they fixed the houses and purchased them for low income people to live in. i am disabled and we got only $1200 for both hurricanes and the flood. i had sinus cancer during this time and it was a living hell.
It seems like the world stopped in the 1940’s from the houses your showing. It’s as though it’s in a time warp. What draws people to Lake Charles to settle down in?
