Nearly 60 years later, life has imitated art. Two people fell into a tank of chocolate at a Mars / M&M candy factory in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania today. The fire department was called for assistance.
I'm so happy to see that I'm not the only one watching this after the incident today. I'm only 40 so I'd never seen it, but my 70 year old father mentioned it, so here I am. Thankfully both people were rescued and are going to survive.
This was my Dad's favorite routine. The minute I saw the news article (happened near me), I emailed my siblings with the article attached, and said, "Dad's favorite routine became real!!!"

I ALWAYS, ALWAYS wanted our scouts to do this for talent night. Scaled down obviously, but they'd have gotten a standing ovation. Even most of the adults would have been unfamiliar with it.
My parents had an album of them that I LOVED, along with Herb Albert's Whipped Cream and Other Delights, Sound of Music, and Promises, Promises; they were in heavy rotation on our stereo when I put on a stack.... along with my BeeGees, Donny Osmond, Andy Gibb, Bobby Sherman, and Shaun Cassidy.
@boxerrebellion1 my goodness....are you one of my siblings? I still have all those albums! I thought the cover of Whipped Cream was the sexiest thing I'd ever seen. But I also had albums by the Archie's. :)
My grandparents had the record of The two sides of the Smothers Brothers, which included this song. Now it’s mine; LPs can be hand me downs these days, as well as collectors items.
I just 6 saw a news article about 2 people who were rescued after falling into a vat of chocolate at the Hershey's factory... Half the comments were from people who remembered this song 🤣
There's a new TV show called 9-1-1, and this evening it features a History teacher who was visiting a chocolate factory. You can guess the rest, except that he didn't have the presence of mind to yell "CHOCOLATE!"
SO HILARIOUS!!! “Well, I just fell into this vat of chocolate, I just fell into this vat of chocolate!” Then,”What did you do to get out?” “Well, I swam a lot..” For some reason this ditty has always reminded me of the episode on former 1980s sitcom Double Trouble(with Liz and Jean Sagal, real life twins who played the twins on Double trouble)where it was the twins’ 17th or 18th birthday, each twin insisted on celebrating her birthday separately, which ended in rather hilarious results(I don’t remember the episode title.) The aforementioned real life twins are the twin sisters of actress Katey Sagal, of Married with Children fame. Anyway, Tom and Dick Smothers were indeed HILARIOUS in this number. You know, with their first names, all they needed was a third Smother Brother named Harry(get it-Tom, Dick, and Harry!) Ha ha. :)
I grew up at CFBR from the time I was 11 until I graduated, 1986-1993. We had a day that we would cook out and honor law enforcement, U.P.O.A. Day. My first year out there a couple of highway patrol men preformed this. At the time I didn't realize it was a borrowed act, but it was funny none the less.
Tommy makes an excellent point there.I mean,if I heard someone yell 'Chocolate!' and I wasn't in the mood for chocolate,I just might not bother investigating.I might be jonesing for caramel,or gummies,or Red Vines.Or something more healthy like strawberries.Or blueberries.

When my sister & i were young we played and played again all of our mom's old Smothers Brothers albums.

Well it happened in Pennsylvania today. But it was dry chocolate and only to their waist. Took 2 hours tp get them out it was at the Mars factory.
