I've loved this song since I first heard it in the late 1990s . . . and MAN did he capture Woody's feel! I knew the lyrics were Woody's . . . but I thought the basic melody was too . . . I didn't realize the music was all Billy Bragg! Well done Billy . . .. . well done!!
This song is definitely one of my favorites. I still remember the first time I listened to it a long long time ago. I always listen to it when I reflect upon my life.
this song won't leave my mind. I've been practising it on guitar too and it has a couple of very a-typical chord changes. ( for me, at least ), which I find difficult to master.
You've hopefully mastered it by now, but, a little tip for struggling with weird changes, what i used to do, is getting most of the tune down as it is, then just watch a movie or tv show, and play the song, it's like just storing in your brain, in a different way, because then you rely on feel of the tune, and not the sound of it, so the changes become easier, if that makes sense!?🙂 Sorta like the same with a bouncing foot, to get the tempo of a song 🙂
@@sicariusperemo3789 Just replying because you did so recently, that you might pay attention. I can't believe how long it has been around. I just recently heard this song because of The Langer's Ball. They do it beautifully.
The best recording ever of "way over younder".. An aging whiskey-voice from THE number 1 singer..Great songs like this one doesn't work with a female voice. AAh...Hell NO song in minor works with a female voice.. Sorry..

Beautiful version well done Bill x
Great stuff thanks for uploading
I lived in a place called Okfuskee
And I had a little girl in a holler tree
I said, little girl, it's plain to see
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
She said it's hard for me to see
How one little boy got so ugly
Yes my little girly that might be
But there ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Way over yonder in the minor key
Way over yonder in the minor key
There ain't nobody that can sing like me
We walked down by the Buckeye Creek
To see the frog eat the goggle-eye bee
To hear the west wind whistle to the east
There ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Oh my little girly will you let me see
Way over yonder where the wind blows free
Nobody can see in our holler tree
And there ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Way over yonder in the minor key
Way over yonder in the minor key
There ain't nobody that can sing like me
Her mama cut a switch from a cherry tree
And laid it on the she and me,
It stung lots worse than a hive of bees
But there ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Now I have walked a long long ways
And I still look back to my Tanglewood days
I've led lots of girls since then to stray
Saying ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Way over yonder in the minor key
Way over yonder in the minor key
There ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

...Hurt much worse than a hive of bees.
Great song, but the levels here were way off. Could barely hear his great guitaring.
