This is the coolest ever!! We saw this at the St. Paul Mn RV show. I sent photos of it to my daughter who has 4 kids. This is PERFECT for a family like hers. all the sleeping space and roomy if it is a rainy day and the kids need to be inside!!
Owned the jayco version of the Roo 183 for 5 years. Loved it for our old half ton with a low payload capacity. I'm happy to see there are still hybrids in production for those who need them. The Roo 235s with the outdoor kitchen is probably the best hybrid floor plan ever.
This is a great Hybrid. It’s nice it sleeps a lot of people. I like that it has a full bath room. Very nice with a big refrigerator too! It is like a pop up. But better! Thank you Josh! I like it.
I always wanted one of these. Your con of being able to hear things is real. Forever ago I had a popup and noticed. I say if this type of trailer works for you, buy a box of ear plugs and go. Once i got used to sleeping with earplugs, the tent beds really made the trip more like camping.
Things to consider - those drop down panels are heavy, also if you are short - you can't lift and lock them back easily. My friend had a Kodiak with the cold weather package that I would borrow occasionally for late fall camping. Made me appreciate the hardsided fixed bed campers.
That was the first RV my parents got. They went from a traditional pop up to the older model of this one. Didn't have a slide but had 3 bunks which was great for my son and wife and I when we went camping with them. This only lasted a few years until my said eff it he was tired of crawling out of bed and setting it up
As a former owner of a Rockwood Premier 2716G. I can speak to the heated mattresses. Man do they work well. I mean late October Maine well. Also Rockwood makes the best hybrids in the business but don't sleep on their pop-ups.
Wish they had this when my kids were little! I might of gotten so sleep on those rainy nights when the boys couldn't sleep outside! With both older kids sleeping in the over dinnette fold down cabnit/bed thing l, all night I'd hear "Mom he kicked me" Mom she's taking the whole bed "Mom he's poking me". "Mom I got to go to the bathroom". "Mom!Mom! Mom"! Everything sounded and looked great didnt even know it was a different camera till you told us.
Having boondocked quite a bit (out west many smaller state parks and National Forest campsites don't offer Electric and water hookups) we relied heavily on having a gas/electric water heater in gas mode and a gas/electric fridge in gas mode. We could do long weekends pretty easily on that, but we liked having a generator to top off the battery and run the occasional appliance.
I really like these. You get so much more space with the tip-out beds. Then a slide - very cool. My next door neighbor bought a used Jayco version and I love it. That's a really deep slide also, isn't it? Youve got room to do yoga on that floor.
We have the Jayco version of this. We have loved it. It’s worked well for our family. It always surprises people with the size/space inside and how open it is.
Hey Josh, another reason they have two of the max airflow vents is you turn them on max power when you’re ready to close up your hybrid beds and it sucks all the air out of your canvas area for you to shut your beds easier.
yep. And if you have trouble making the beds, just have your partner stand outside and unzip the end window and have them make that side of the bed while you are making up your side. Otherwise, it's like wrestling cats!🤣
I really like this camper!!! Very cool and your audio and video sounded great!! Ya don't see many campers like this anymore, great job as always Josh! Thanks.
We have a hybrid and we love it. It's short enough without having towing issues and fit in anywhere but big enough to sleep 8. Well it used to sleep 8 but we did some modifications that now only sleeps 5-6. Jayco Kiwi 22C, which you have a video of it on your channel when you first started. Just have to put in a little work when setting up but it's worth it.
We have a 2016 Flag staff Shamrock 233S. We love it. With the slide out there's plenty of room during rainy days. We have slept 6 people in it for a week at the beach. Love the dinette table!! Its so versatile.
I was ready to write this one off before even giving it a chance. Still not what I'm wanting or needing for my needs ATM but dang! I see great potential for this one for large, young families or for grandparents wanting to take the grands out with them. This would be my weekend warrior choice! Thanks Josh!
We have a 2019 Roo 19. Without slide. It is really roomy for it's size and the cabinets are sturdy. The toilet is not as fluffy friendly but sufficient for couple travel. Those heated mattresses are a dream for cooler weather.
❤ I love it 😍 the perfect family camper! Rockwood, of course it was you to come out with this. A Ford Ranger with a tow package can easily handle this ❤
It would be close, because the payload capacity, not the towing weight capability, seems to be overlooked a lot. GCWR is ultimately what you wanna pay attention too.
I believe the other two commenters beat me to it, but I would double check the payload rating on the truck versus the hitch and expected cargo load on the trailer. I think you may end up in the red
This is the first camper we bought in 20,12. We loved it but could not keep the canvas on top front side attached. Took a beating on it when we replaced it with a Forest Rivers Grey Wolf. Then bought a Keystone Alpine which was big but not enough 110 outlets. Now we are going back to a Forest River Hybrid 233s. Sleeps 10!!! Just two of us unless kids and their 3 kids show up. Plus it will fit in State / Federal parks very easily. Wife can drive some which helps me. This was our favorite camper. When it’s just the two of us we either don’t open the other beds or we use them for more storage.
We had our Roo for 17 years and absolutely liv d it. It is the most versatile trailer on the market. When we had extra people we would put out the extra bed but when it was just the two of us we left a bed in!
Here’s something we do with our mattresses…since we don’t need the extra bed, we put the mattresses on top of each other and use the other bed space for a closet, storage, seating, etc. that way we get a big comfy bed and don’t have to drag around a bigger mattress!
We have 2007 233 Roo (w/o a slide) and we Love it!!! We have 2 teenage boys and we fit nice. This one is Soooo much nicer in some ways. The bathroom seems a bit bigger than ours!!!! The shower is exactly what I want!!! And it has the little linen closet is sooo cool!!!! Ours, however, has 2 more drawers in the kitchen and a much bigger cabinet under the sink and oven. I've been wanting to see the difference between ours and a new one, thank you for showing us. BTW, if you open up all the canvas' the airflow is Amazing!!!!!! Rain does take a little bit to get used to with the difference in sounds, but it really is an amazing little trailer!!!!! ❤
Had a Coachman 22dsx. Similar, but 2 bunks. Was awsome once set up. Room like a 30-footer but could fit on any site in any park. It did take a bit to set it up, so not so great for traveling with a lot of stops. Perfect for "a week at the park" though. Ours was toasty or cool with ac and heater. I really loved backing into sites with a view and opening all the windows in the back bunk. Felt like actually camping in the woods!
Hey Josh, I appreciate all the videos and info on all the options out there! My family and I will get a 2nd camper sooner or later, but these videos definitely help with the decision-making.
Best thing about these is that they sleep a family of 6 comfortably, but they can be towed by a tow package full size SUV. Until the RV industry ditches Azdel and starts making RVs out of bags of holding this is the best option for large families. There’s an active facebook group with lots of ideas for storage and overcoming some of the other hybrid challenges. I grew up camping in a pop up so hybrids still feel like a breeze to set up, but it’s definitely more work than a typical camper.
We actually add a 2in memory foam topper to the mattress and they are really comfortable. We stow it on top of the dinette. We will probably upgrade to a Millard trifold topper for storage convenience.
Such an odd duck for a trailer. Reminds me of an old Saturday Night Live skit, "Is it a floor wax or a dessert topping? - It's both!". Here in Texas, there's at least two seasons that I'd rather not sleep in one of these.
Yeah, I guessed wrong too. They increased the weight capability on the newer models. I have a 2020, and I think it's rated 900lbs. Which is still impressive.
Interesting camper! Great use of space and decent storage. I Like the exterior colors. Regarding the new camera, video quality is good, colors don't seems as vibrant or contrast. The audio, to me, seems really flat and dry with no depth, almost 2 dimensional. Volume is more distant (even with the interior footage) compared to the previous camera. I chalked the audio/video up to the weather, it looks kind dreary there when recorded. Thanks for the Saturday upload, great way to start my weekend :)
Cool video. Thought it was your usual video til you said about your audio. It was great. Also next time.. Can you do a demo on how to open and close one of the pop outs. That would have been neat. 👍
i want a camper that sleeps at least 6, but dont need the hugeness and expense of big ones. hybrid campers seem to me (for the amount of time i could go camping in the year) to be the perfect solution to this. now, if only i could afford one (nearly bought one last summer, but didn't. now our youngest has cancer so may never get to purchase one. he will survive, but was in hospital for 2 weeks in ICU due to being so sick before we knew what he had) Josh, i love your channel!
Josh, I've just taken a better look at this High Turkey Roo. and my only take away would be to replace the three burner with a two adding a convection micro oven, adding more counter top. when cooking three burners can't really be used anyway. Reduce to two. Over all, I really enjoy your commentary and style.
Hi Josh. Video and audio were perfect. I didn't see/hear any issues. Honestly, it wasn't apparent you were using any different type of equipment. I really do love the tent campers, they really make you feel like you're CAMPING. I had a pop-up and enjoyed the 'outside inside'...sounds/feels. My favorite is sleeping at the beach and hearing the light house fog horn in the middle of the night. 🥰 My unique circumstances w/ special needs kid made it necessary to move up to a closed in travel trailer because that fog horn? Yeah, it was mimicked over and over, each time it was heard. 😑 If you (and any viewers) know Autism, you'll know exactly what I mean. 😂 If I could, THIS camper right here would be MY jam! The fact you don't have to mess with setting up bunk ends; pulling and anchoring tent material and end supports is a HUGE improvement. These days, these units really are less often seen, but I think there are a lot of people who might not know or understand just how really COOL they can be. Thanks Josh, for this review! 😀
I so wish my parents had had this when we went camping when I was a kid!! Most of our holidays were camping, if we stayed in a caravan ,(rare!) It was considered the height of luxury! We were posh as my dad had a portable black & white tv run off the car battery. We had MANY rainy days, where touching the tent wall would soak you with rainwater, and putting the tent away in the rain was an insane experience. I think this is amazing, the facilities are insane. I think even the anti-campers in my family would consider holidaying in this one! #nerdherd #RVnerdherd
Yeah, I tent camped with the family for many years, which gradually progressed to "glamping" with a canvas tent, indoor carpeting and ASTRO turf at the entry way. A Hybrid gives a "similar" feel with less heavy lifting.
It was on the money inside and outside we could still hear you but low guys also check out voodoo family travels they are just as good as Josh by the way Josh you do a great job
Nice family bunkhouse floorplan with enough seating for the amount of people it can sleep👍I just hope that buyers have better luck with the weather than I have had with tent trailers and don’t have to pack up in the rain and set it back up to dry when they get home😂
These are all vinyl except the side window. Easier to dry out than a pop-up (we've owned both) Nice thing is that you don't have to drop it in bad weather. Just close the bed ends and camp out on the dinette and couch. We had to drop our popup in St. Augustine Fl suddenly because of tornado threat/high winds. Not fun at all! We had a similar issue with the Roo but that only took 5min to close the beds and ride it out.
The nets are baby hammocks. Also if you fold down the table(in bed mode your mattress fits rather nicely on top of it for travel and yes the back one is a pain. The only complaint we have about this camper is the tent ends get super hot in the sun and yhe ac don't keep up, unless you go to turtle mode and close the ends. Wish the would get with artic tent and make the tent ends insulated then this would be perfect
We got another Rockwood since we loved the RooS quality so much and never had a problem with it in 17 years, not even the condensation they talk about. We ended up getting another Rockwood, the rear kitchen, double slide out, 29 footer. We came out to Bishs to look but got a better deal closer to our home but have recommended Nish to a lot of people, thank you Josh
@@JoshtheRVNerd I’m seeing more and more cargo style weekend trailers that have the beds that flip and haul the toys but no real toy hauler/camping unit. I think intech just made one that has a bathroom..
@Britt- we do most of our cooking outside and only cook indoors when the weather is lousy. It’s nice to have the extra kitchen space outside without losing cooking space indoors
I call it my "Hat Hammock". Works great for my cowboy hat. I own the 2020 Flagstaff Shamrock 23iKSS. Not sure if they make it anymore? It has 2 opposing slideouts(1 is a super slide)which provides an Island Kitchen! We get the same reaction from our friends & family who see it for the first time, "Wow, so much bigger than it looks from outside". The 23FL layout was similar but with a rear kitchen. You can almost break dance in that one!. 2 main reasons for getting a Hybrid was, I can park it at home in my driveway and I can take it down smaller mountain roads that prohibit trailers larger than 26ft. You still get that bigger trailer feel. Had to learn how to remedy the condensation and heat issues in the bedding areas too. The Showermizer is a genius invention for boondocking and the heated mattresses are awesome. HYBRID PRIDE!😂. If there's such a thing.
Hey Josh, Can you nudge RockStaff to bring back the 23IKSS? It looks to have quite a bit more interior storage than their other hybrid floor plans... But tell them to reverse the footprint so that there's more camp-side windows. TIA!! Love your channel, btw. Watch almost every day!
They’ve actually been reducing hybrids rather than adding them There’s a slim outside chance we could actually get one for you as a special request order but they’re just not doing them now
@@JoshtheRVNerdOh man!! PUHLEESE tell them to not quit making them entirely. Theyre the only style of camper that could possibly sleep our adult sons, wives + hopefully a few grandkids and that would be 1/2 ton towable. Hubs and I are still a few years out from buying one because we just work too much to justify owing one yet but we'll definitely come see you when we're ready. Please tell them to at least not DC the 233s, it's my only hope, Obi-Wan!!
We owned a Roo for 7 years. I did love it, but hybrids do require more care with the bed ends, seals, condensation, and limited availability of aftermarket mattress options.
I’m sure they could put a rectangular shower in there if they could arrange it so that when the shower is open, it leaves elbow room for the toileteer. Maybe a curtain, although they’re not the nicest things for the decor.
Would be nice to have a rear patio deck instead of another bed. What do you think, Josh? Oh, and rather than a slide, how about a breakfast bar that folds down. Save the weight. Put in a projector screen on that wall. Would double as blackout.
Really like this model but I saw another video where a guy bottomed out going into his driveway. I do a lot of back country hunting and originally thought this would be awesome. Between a torsion axel lift and bigger tires, could I gain 4-5in in lift? Great video.
The visual and audio was awesome. No need to change anything. Picture was crystal clear. I do have a question which you may or maynot be able to answer. Do you know if this is a popular RV? I'm currently tent camping but I'm not sure if I should step up to RV or a Hybrid RV like this one. I think I'm most so afraid that many campgrounds would not allow me to camp at there campgrounds or resort with this type of RV. Also, what the chances that the canvas on this hyrid would leak or tear from several wind damage? Finally, clarification on what you stated earlier. Did you say each queen bed can hold 1000 pounds? What about the soft weight limit? Can you add a TV to that third rear queen bed area or the two queens share the same bed? What size TV can fit there?
When you say it's retired, do you mean they will not be making them anymore? If they're truly retired and zi purchase one, will they be able to service the RV or have the parts to make any minor or major repairs if needed. Maybe this wouldn't be the best purchase if they retired. What are your thoughts on this matter?
I love this! I live out in west Texas and camp out here. How are these in the wind? We don’t like to be out in anything over 25 mph but sometimes gust will get up to 45 mph.
We had 50mph winds while camping at Chincoteague Island in March. The tent fabric was holding well but the wind was picking up the bed end with my 240lb husband on the bed! We just closed the bed ends and slept on the dinette/couch that night. Adventures right? With any pop-up or hybrid you really need to pay attention to gusty or high winds. The advantage of the Roo is that there is still sleeping space if you have to "Turtle Up". Whereas a pop-up, you have to pack up the inside and drop it. I would say that the Roo can easily take sustained 30mph winds but I would still close it as I wouldn't want a tree branch puncturing the tent either!
This is the coolest ever!! We saw this at the St. Paul Mn RV show. I sent photos of it to my daughter who has 4 kids. This is PERFECT for a family like hers. all the sleeping space and roomy if it is a rainy day and the kids need to be inside!!
As a young kid, I too witnessed The Ultimate Warrior getting locked in a casket by The Undertaker! Nice intro🤣

Check out the 23ikss and 23fl. Opposing slideouts. Huge inside and great counter space.
It’s definitely one of the best for sure. I think the 233 and 235 are both pretty awesome and their own little unique way.
I wish the 233 had a spot for at least an outdoor frdge... been looking at these for a few years, ready to upgrade from my jayco x17z

I chalked the audio/video up to the weather, it looks kind dreary there when recorded.
Thanks for the Saturday upload, great way to start my weekend :)
Awesome, thank you!
The baby hammock!🏕️
🙌🏻
This is the perfect hunting RV.
Yes!, You can take this in areas that can't fit bigger trailers. The heated mattresses are money!
Just unzip the bed curtains.. take your shot.. zip back up 😆
Yeah & unzip window take a dump go back to sleep 😅
In our hybrid we bought tri fold 6” mattresses, they’re comfy and easy to store away.
love the input. Ty so much
Ty so much
Josh, I've just taken a better look at this High Turkey Roo. and my only take away would be to replace the three burner with a two adding a convection micro oven, adding more counter top. when cooking three burners can't really be used anyway. Reduce to two. Over all, I really enjoy your commentary and style.
This is my number one pick for next year. I need to see this in person. But 1st buy a new truck that would be able to tow it safely.
Nice pick!
Baby hammock my favorite trailer someday I will own one
Baby Hammock!!!
Josh i love my Flagstaff 233s! i told you a year ago i won some money and because of yo I bought the 233s!
I still feel it's about the best hybrid there is or ever has been
Perfect Ty
Everything is great , voice , camera, etc
awesome ty
Hi josh this one cool 😎
Baby Hammocks! LOL!!!
That's it!
You mean "Winner Uncle Josh Seenya!"
We own the smallest Roo. We really like it.
Is that the 19?
Yes. I know there is a lighter 3bed model but ours only has 2 beds.
It was on the money inside and outside we could still hear you but low guys also check out voodoo family travels they are just as good as Josh by the way Josh you do a great job
Thanks for making RV Nerdism #37 subsection D.22 official with the Blow & Glow by the Baby Hammock
lol
This camper is super groovy! Need I say more?
😊
I would call those storage hammocks above the bed
Great minds think alike!
Awesome unit! I adore the inside decor. This looks like it would be very comfortable to camp n play!
I remember watching that same WWF scene!
Scarred for life right?
This was an excellent, informative video! This would be perfect for my kids and I. Does anyone know how these handle rain? Thank you.
Baby hammock!
Wish the would get with artic tent and make the tent ends insulated then this would be perfect
ah great tip!
We have a roo and love it but are ready to get a different Rv since we are older now but will surely miss the roo
Are you looking to get something that’s just fully enclosed?
We got another Rockwood since we loved the RooS quality so much and never had a problem with it in 17 years, not even the condensation they talk about. We ended up getting
another Rockwood, the rear kitchen, double slide out, 29 footer. We came out to Bishs to look but got a better deal closer to our home but have recommended Nish to a lot of people, thank you Josh
They or someone needs to make a toy hauler version of this. That front and side tip out bed would be great
I'm kinda shocked more stuff like that isn't out there
@@JoshtheRVNerd I’m seeing more and more cargo style weekend trailers that have the beds that flip and haul the toys but no real toy hauler/camping unit. I think intech just made one that has a bathroom..
Wife and I want the 235s with the outside kitchen.
Why would you want to cook outside? Just curious. I understand grilling, etc. But breakfast, lunch, dinner in all weather conditions?
We don't need the three bunk ends plus the entertainment area is better inside with tv layout.
@Britt- we do most of our cooking outside and only cook indoors when the weather is lousy. It’s nice to have the extra kitchen space outside without losing cooking space indoors
It’s also a good one with a great entertainment center
That IKSS is retried which sucks
@JoshtheRVNerd wow, its such a good floorplan. So weird. Thanks for the content. Keep it coming.
Midnight snack hammock. 😂
Oooh I like that
The baby hammock😉
High end air mattresses with the pad on top were wonderful in our old Kodiak Cub hybrid. Don't need to kill yourself with a full sized queen mattress.
And yes. The rear bunk was the adult bunk.
Nice Ty
Pretty nice hybrid 👍👍👍👍👍😊😊
Thanks 👍
Hey Josh, Can you nudge RockStaff to bring back the 23IKSS? It looks to have quite a bit more interior storage than their other hybrid floor plans... But tell them to reverse the footprint so that there's more camp-side windows. TIA!! Love your channel, btw. Watch almost every day!
They’ve actually been reducing hybrids rather than adding them
There’s a slim outside chance we could actually get one for you as a special request order but they’re just not doing them now
I took the liberty of inquiring and it’s simply not going to be possible to even special request one
I tried!
@@JoshtheRVNerd Oh Dang!! Ok thanks so much for the assist. The 233s is still cool, guess I'll just have to suck it up. Much obliged o7
That is true
I’m sure they could put a rectangular shower in there if they could arrange it so that when the shower is open, it leaves elbow room for the toileteer. Maybe a curtain, although they’re not the nicest things for the decor.
I’d be really curious to see what they could come up with if they took an opportunity to re-tool it a little bit
Would be nice to have a rear patio deck instead of another bed. What do you think, Josh? Oh, and rather than a slide, how about a breakfast bar that folds down. Save the weight. Put in a projector screen on that wall. Would double as blackout.
Apex tried that and it was weirdly unpopular
Really like this model but I saw another video where a guy bottomed out going into his driveway. I do a lot of back country hunting and originally thought this would be awesome. Between a torsion axel lift and bigger tires, could I gain 4-5in in lift? Great video.
i'm not sure what all could be done aftermarket i'm sorry
Good video Josh what a weird little camper
lol kinda yeah
Baby hammock 😂😂😂😂
Rockwood is a popular brand
Hybrids have waned in popularity
This layout was actually just retired
When you say it's retired, do you mean they will not be making them anymore? If they're truly retired and zi purchase one, will they be able to service the RV or have the parts to make any minor or major repairs if needed. Maybe this wouldn't be the best purchase if they retired. What are your thoughts on this matter?
Camping Pocket Netting 🎉
I have 183 Rockwood Roo, really wished would have purchased this model instead. Want to do a trade Josh 🤗
Lol Eken any sales person and they’re always happy to do a trade
I’ve never really used one in windy situation, so I’m not entirely sure. And I don’t want to try to promise without personal experience.
