minor league teams often use wording in their logos because they're not universally recognizable like NHL, NBA, NFL, etc logos. it's easier for new or casual fans to identify their local team.
Especially when it's a tiny league like the SPHL, I live in Knoxville and tons of people don't know the ice bears exist. Even with our 4 or 5 championships and the decent hockey history, dating back to the Cherokees in the ECHL

The plane on the Evansville Thunderbolts logo is a P-47 Thunderbolt. During World War 2, Evansville manufactured P-47s for the United States Army Air Forces, Royal Air Force, and French Air Force. That's how they got their name. I live about 50 miles from Evansville and I'm a big Thunderbolts fan.
One video series I would find very interesting is if you two gave your in-depth thoughts on previous playoffs and what you remembered most about them. Personally, I'll never forget the Flames-Lightning Finals of '04.
As a Roanoker myself I love this. I’m currently in pensaocla in the Navy so I’ve been to both teams games and am a fan of both and love seeing you give my hometown love. Go Dawgs.

About the Thunderbolts logo: back in WW2, there were a lot of Thunderbolts with a checkered pattern on the planes' noses (I think it's a squadron thing, not sure). I guess the team included the pattern on the logo as an homage.
Does he have another opinion other than "I don't like words" I had high hopes for this vid. You don't see this kind of review very often. But it just seemed dim, unprofessional, and like they guy didn't want to be there. Sounds like he had no context or analysis beyond NHL style logos. Even less understanding that lower leagues don't have instant national appeal with just a mascot logo. Do some due diligence and research prior to creating your content next time.

The reason these smaller teams use text on logos i think is because otherwise people wouldn't know which team the logo belongs to. Everyone knows which team the NHL logos belong to even without text, but these smaller teams needs the text so that people know what team the logo belongs to.

The Rivermen logo is sweet, I have an away jersey and it looks fantastic. With that being said the old Rivermen Jersey and logo was even better, with the Captain steering the wheel and biting a puck.
Hey i watch alot of your videos i live in biloxi ms and think Pensacola is a great team and i happen to like the text on the Jersey but most of the jerseys dont have text and the navy is big in Pensacola

I used to have season tickets with The Riverkings. They just changed within the last season or two to that logo and color scheme. The used to have a green/black/brown scheme and a turtle for a mascot. I much prefer the old one
awsomehog1 I love the Riverkings, even with their new colors, even though I liked the old ones so much more. I cannot deny that the Riverkings had one of the best logos.
awsomehog1 the black & gold "M" logo although not quite like this was the original logo and colors. the turtle logo came when they moved from Memphis to Southaven most long time fans hated the turtle and I believe going back to the "M" was a way to bring back some of those fans. lets face it attendance has been horrible for awhile now and they are trying anything to relive their glory days. I know I'd still have season tickets if they would have joined the ECHL along with the remaining CHL teams or we didn't get kicked out of the building during the playoffs afew years in a row. the only thing I like about the sphl is I am from Pensacola so I like seeing them come to town. but also wish they would've stayed in the ECHL.
IM SO SAD!!! My favorite hockey team is the Columbus Cottonmouths, who just left the SPHL for this year due to ownership issues, so they didn't make it into the video!! :'( Still a great video though!!!

The plane he's flying is actually called a Thunderbolt. They built them in Millville, NJ (my hometown), and our high school mascot is the Thunderbolts
They have the names so the local fans and people recognize it, since they aren't nationaly known.

The reason the Pensacola Ice Flyers have that name is because the blue angels home is in Pensacola at NAS
Another reason why the ice flyers have their name is because the original owner played for the Philadelphia Flyers. Did u see the last second goal
