That player for Chelsea was supposed to be Cucurella. That's why Potter and Guardiola wanted him. Another player who could fit that mold is Badiashile or Zakaria, but Badiashile would have to improve his press resistance.
Giorgio Scalvini solves that CB into DM role quite well and would be an excellent, cost-effective target for Chelsea+ very in line with the personality and age the squad is trying to achieve
Yes. Bring in a striker. Flog 5-10 of the Academy graduates (they aren't going to make it, but will recoup 10-15m each). That helps them with FFP They then need to promote some of the best Under 18's to the First Team Squad, bring in a British 3rd GK and let go of the senior players that won't make the next squad. Good video but it’s incredibly flawed, Pochettino’s 4231 works since Chelsea are going to sell Kovacic and bring in a Cdm, someone like Rice or Ugarte, defensively sound, good on the ball and can drop deep between the cb’s.
In my opinion, Chaloba has the potential to surpass players like John Stones or Dier, and I believe Chelsea could benefit greatly from his versatility and experience in multiple positions, including defensive midfielder (DM), center back (CB), and fullback (FB). His skill set would undeniably enhance the team's performance and pose a significant threat to the opposition. Additionally, his ability to contribute offensively with long-range strikes adds another dimension to his game, while also providing defensive stability and structure.

Nice to see someone actually addressing the fact that no one is really using 2 offensive fullbacks effectively in 2023. It seems weird as they are probably 2 of Chelsea's best players but it seems either Chilwell or James would have to miss out. Unless they play a back 3 which is also not been very effective recently. Will be really interesting to see what Poch does with Chelsea next year.
Interesting??? What's interesting?? pochettino isn't the genius we are used to, we should not be comparing him to the likes of pep and now artete who learnt from the great tactician.even xavi is ahead of him in terms of football knowledge it's over for Chelsea again

@@maciejbala477 true but also we forget his mammoth salary. Not only is the transfer fee needed but his salary is so huge I don’t know many teams that have that kind of money to take a gamble on him when he’s almost 30
This is a fantastic breakdown of Poch's tactics, but it's missing some key points that will undoubtedly shape the course of the season to come. Firstly, Kepa and Mendy are fine keepers, but I don't think Chelsea fans believe either one truly meets the Chelsea standard, so we're looking at a potential signing there, I like Onana personally. Second, we're in the market for a 6 who can also play as a CB, and Declan Rice fits that mold to a T. I highly expect Chelsea to be aggressive in recruiting him for the next year. Third, you neglected to mention Christopher Nkunku who will be joining for next season and will be perfect for that Dele role. Fourthly, Levi Colwill is returning from Brighton on loan and is plenty talented enough to start games for Chelsea and definitely has the ball carrying and passing abilities to comfortably fit the Vertonghen role. Lastly, there's pretty much no chance Lukaku plays another game in Chelsea blue considering how unceremoniously he decided to burn his bridges. I wouldn't be surprised if Chelsea went in for Kane in the transfer window, with Osimhen being a potential target as well. Two more signings worth 200m is steep, but they'll be selling the likes of Gallagher, RLC, Chalobah, Lukaku, Pulisic, CHO, Mendy/Kepa, Ziyech (regrettably), Kovacic (hopefully), Cucarella (potentially), Koulibaly, and many more potentially, which should easily foot the bill as far as FFP are concerned.
@@Timbone07 Chelsea has an infinitely better chance at winning anything above spurs and west ham so I think they'll be alright but thanks for your concern. We won a CL two years ago. Whats ur team done
For how in depth the tactics were how did he miss the mark so badly on the players that are actually going to be a part of this squad next season. Lukaku has burned all bridges at the club, Felix is an over priced loan, Kova wants out, Mount is at a stand still with the club, Nkunku is a done deal.
Regarding lukaku i wouldn't agree with that part. he had a disagreement with tuchel not poch. ' i see no reason y he couldn't be reintegrated back in the team.
I'd just replace Mount with Ndidi. Then I would play Kepa (GK), James (RB), Fofana (RCB), Badiashile (LCB), Cucurella (LB) Kovacic (LCM), Ndidi (RCM), and play Enzo (CAM), Nkunku (RW), Mudryk (LW) Havertz (CF) (False nine). This way the whole team is much younger and then Poch can pick and choose which senior players he wants in the team to help in rotation.
I hope that Poch gives Hudson Odoi a chance when he finishes his loan in Germany. Hes a world class crosser of the ball, ready to beat the RB or LB, blistering speed.
Came back to this video because this actually exactly what poch is having to do with chelsea now playing the back three instead of having someone come deep or a someone who can defend but play in midfield. one would think caicedo was bought for this role but in reality declan rice was probably much more suited to it. Both caicedo and fernandez seem to want to carry tha ball forward more but early days still.
Easy solution: Kepa, Gusto, fofana, Badiashile, chilwell, James, Enzo, Nkunku, Mudryk, Lukaku, Madueke. Inverting Gusto and Chilwell, Madueke and Mudryk starting out wide. (I’m not even a Chelsea fan)
@@AntonoirJacques I must admit i didn't follow him there. So maybe he is actually a good option. But as only option its too risky if Poch really find that position very important.
Bellingham reminds me so much of a younger, faster Dembele in that Spurs team. Rose, Walker, Dembele, Erikson then Son and Kane upfront with a young Alli and Vertongen/Alderwaald/Lloris in defence was a good side with specific good players. I think Poch has his work cut out to capture that again at Chelsea.
Bellingham plays much further forward than Dembele, whose job was mainly transition the ball from defence to attacking players like Bellingham. He was a press resistant dribbler.
@@hansgruber9093 Did you see Dembele dribbling around and through players like Bellingham can do? That's the similarity as well as physique/stature - though Bellingham is a lot more of a B2B runner.
@@commentarytalk1446 Bellingham can dribble but it's much higher up the pitch. Look at their goal/assist stats, or heat maps on where they operate. Not the same type of player at all. Bellingham could for sure do a job in the double pivot but nobody's spending £150m to play him there.
@@hansgruber9093 It seems you are saying they are the same player? @@commentarytalk1446 No idea how you've got that from what I said. I watched all of Dembele's games for Spurs, he exclusively played in the double pivot. Bellingham barely ever plays there. End of discussion. Bellingham can dribble but I wouldn't say he reminds me of Dembele as a player at all.
As a chelsea fan and a Dane, there is no where in hell that Mason Mount would be able to copy that Christian Eriksen role... Eriksen were one of the most creative, dangerous, big chance creating midfielders in the world at that time. That ain't Mason Mount's game at all
He should be given a reasonable amount of time to turn the team around, it’s completely unrealistic to expect miracles in just a few games. Spurs made a mistake in letting him go and have probably regretted it since.
I’m certain CFC will purchase a DM able to perform the DM/CB role this summer… Andrey Santos will definitely be in the first team squad next season imo. Kovačić looks likely to leave, DDF almost certainly will be loaned out along with Carney and Hall - probably Maatsen too. Lukaku doesn’t look likely to stay, same for João and Zakaria.
The analysis pretty much points towards a lot of Chelsea's system problems being solved if we sign Declan Rice to play the Dier role to unlock a 4 atb system. Homegrown and fits the role better than Dier even. Kova, RLC can leave. Gallagher too if Felix signs. Think it would be worth it to not sign a number 9 if we can get Rice. Broja isn't terrible, still got Lukaku. Havertz and Nkunku can offer some unique tactical possibilities up top. And it prevents Rice going to Arsenal. If we sign one player it should be him. Given Maatsen's development, we can let the more defensive Cucurella leave for Felix swap because of Rice's defensive abilities being a much more solid option. Fofana and Badiashille are good at 1v1s and Rice is amazing at defensive positioning. Ideal window would be the outgoings of Kepa, Mendy, Azpi, Koulibaly, Cucurella, Kova, RLC, Gallagher, CHO, Pulisic, Ziyech and possibly Lukaku and Sterling. (ik a ridiculous list). 3 of them are academy graduates, great for FFP. I hope Boehly is already talking to clubs for offloading this bunch lol. Incomings of Rice, a GK, Felix, and wildcard move for Lavia. Colwill, Maatsen, Nkunku, Gusto and potentially Santos added to it as well.
I think Felix should go back, since we have nkunku who can play in the second Stricker role, and we have Havertz as well. felix would be sent back IMO, unless Mount goes as well, its a headache for Pochettino
i think Pochettino could play in a 4231, Chelsea has the players for it. This would be the team if they let go of Lukaku and buy Jonathan David and let Kante and Mount go out on a free. Starting 11 / Substitutions: GK: Kepa (Mendy & Slonina) LB: Chilwell (Cucurella) LCB: Thiago (Badiashile)´ RCB: Fofana (Koulibaly & Chalobah) RB: Reece (Gusto) CM: Enzo (Andrey) CM: Kovacic (Gallagher & Hall) LW: Sterling (Mudryk & Pullisic) OM: Nkunku (Carney) RW: Havertz (Madueke) ST: David (Datro & Broja)
Enzo is wasted as a 6 and there are big rumours that chelsea want a proper cdm to push enzo forward, a gk onana from inter being linked and a striker, could really be anyone, what i would say is we lack physicality compared to that spurs team, our only starters who would be categorised as physical are only probably reece james and thats really it, we need more physicality we get out muscled on the ball. My worry is that is Poch good enough for Chelsea though?
Same issue as moving Fernandez deeper, you lose the contribution he makes further up the pitch. He's an outstanding fullback, and should be played as such
I'm a FM player, not a Chelsea fan. Chelsea has a lot of high potential players but the thing is no one really has the skill to decide the game's result. The back line couldn't play without T.Silva's ball control and command skill, but he's not fast enough to play 2 CB alone, obviously Silva is going to be the E.Dier role. But Silva aren't young anymore, he's going to be fragile with a lot of running. I think Kovacic is going to leave and push Fernandez to CM. Chelsea is going to buy another tall CDM like Matic or Dier. As for the RW solution, Nkunku is joining next season. Felix and Lukaku aren't going to stay. So another ST is coming, too.
We have to obviously sell a lot of players but we still need a GK,DM & ST to help with those issues. I don't see lukaku, kovavic & maybe mount or felix being here next season.
Enzo is a six ..why is everyone trying to push him forward? He isn't Bruno G who runs around everywhere he is more like a Pirlo. Pass and move. He doesn't play back to goal or any of that. He either gets a partner or plays deep alone
sounds like paralysis by analysis at this point when it comes to chelsea. he can play a 4-4-2 for all i care as long as he can get our players to strike a football accurately and hard enough into the back of the net....
Why is everyone forgetting about the starter for Germany and record signing Havertz? More talented than anyone there. If you want a false 9, you got him
@@paulie-g who has great numbers in this side ? In one season Jorginho was the top scorer, so, Chelsea doesn't score, not only Havertz. But he's the only one of the whole squad who has scored +20 goals in recent seasons.
Who is going to want to sign players like Cucurella, Lukaku and Aubameyang this summer though? Or Koulibally who is on huge wages. If no clubs come in for these players, then Chelsea are screwed becuase their wage bill will be too high meaning they wont be able to bring in any more quality players who would command high wages. The only positive, is that they have some talented younger players, such as Levi Colwil, Callum Hudson-Odi (who is a right winger), Maduke, Mudryk, Dujon Sterling, Ian Maatsen. But they still need to sign a couple of strikers plus a replacement for Kante who is out of contract this summer. If their main strikers next season are Lukaku and Aubameyang then Potchettino will just do what previous Chelsea managers have done and play Havertz as striker. What a mess.
Chelsea need a big sale in the summer. So many players that will not be used and talents wasted. Chelsea can easily get 100+ million in sales, so after selling a few surplus players should be able to get Declan Rice.
Enrique is the best fit for Chelsea. Chelsea can play possession football with d squad they have We dont have d physicality like b4 but we have skills with a lot of technical players that might not be very good a physical situation
This Chelsea frankestein team has been the works of at least 5 managers, and that needs to change fast. Give him a chance to build a squad not just throw money at talents.
Simple answer, nope. Poch is not an elite manager, and he has been managing since 2009 exactly the same period with the likes of di Matteo, and he has won a Champions League yet he has been out of a job since 2016 while Poch only has the French league on his CV and he has just recently been unemployed.
I wonder what poch is gonna do. I feel like at least 10 players cpuld leave the club so that poch can bring in players he need for his tactics. Also of those ten players you could definetly put half on loan. That way if poch doesnt work either you dont loose much

Kante should have been sold at least two yeats ago. He doesnt fulfill a true need of the squad and had some value. As of now, we either lose him, or instead have him take a squad spot that could probably used elsewhere
Thats absolutely wild how bakayoko is still on the Chelsea books... (Although i guess thats not the current owners fault)
I think they'll really struggle to shift alot of these guys for good money other than Mount. And he only has a year left on his contract.
Mount will be staying though, I don’t think it will be as challenging as people make out to shift a lot of these players either. Already reported interest in a lot of them
@@barrybarrybannan I think they ll be able to sell them but just not as the price they would hope to... Gallagher and Broja for example their values have dropped. That player for Chelsea was supposed to be Cucurella. That's why Potter and Guardiola wanted him. Another player who could fit that mold is Badiashile or Zakaria, but Badiashile would have to improve his press resistance.
One of Jon Dog's best videos on the channel 💪
9:10 ampadu is a good shout for that he is exactly that type of player
Giorgio Scalvini solves that CB into DM role quite well and would be an excellent, cost-effective target for Chelsea+ very in line with the personality and age the squad is trying to achieve
Yes. Bring in a striker. Flog 5-10 of the Academy graduates (they aren't going to make it, but will recoup 10-15m each). That helps them with FFP
They then need to promote some of the best Under 18's to the First Team Squad, bring in a British 3rd GK and let go of the senior players that won't make the next squad. Lukaku, Bakayoko, Felix, Kante...
Strategic, but not the end of the world (in theory)
How many examples are there of a club selling 10 players in 1 window?
Boehly is a truly football genius, buying 3 teams and somehow they cannot fill up a decent squad
Why are you putting Dier in the same sentence as Stones? Stones is an elite cb. Dier is a lemon.
That zoom was an absolutely genius thing to doooo!!

While i like poccetino, cant help but be frustrated by the decision to buyout potter while not taking nagoesman as his replacement m. Otherwise, there really was no need for the move and for such decision.
Another thing favoring nagelsman, would be his adeptness in the principles of postional play. Frankly this should be the focus as the attacking phase of chelsea the last two years has been the most evident need
Ampadu has those qualities. He has been playing centre back and centre mid. He's also still only 22
I think Colwil could easily do it as well .. has all the raw materials
and Chalobah. even if its only as a backup.
@@djacks247yeah surely he is way more proven than ampadu
@@Bookish-World No, Pochettino shouldn't be put on the same level as Pep Guardiola but he is right up there with the best of the rest. Pochettino has been a success at all 4 clubs he's managed. He did a better job & took Spurs to a higher level than any manager they've had in the last 60 years.
It has taken Arteta 4 years before having a good season.
Great analysis man! Awesome vid 👍
Also worth noting Lukaku is a homegrown player! Not that it changes much because we’d rather move him on. Not sure who’s going to take him though 🤔
many clubs are looking for a striker, so probably someone would take a gamble for him, it's just going to be at a really massive loss
@@maciejbala477 true but also we forget his mammoth salary. Not only is the transfer fee needed but his salary is so huge I don’t know many teams that have that kind of money to take a gamble on him when he’s almost 30
why would we move him on when he solves our biggest problem - finishing?? it makes no sense.
@@oneoneday because he doesn’t want to be there, he’s desperate to go back to Milan. We’re better off cutting our losses
If not rice I like palhinha . May be like 40 mil cheaper too
Man talks about buying Kane and Rice this summer 🤣🤣🤣
Kane and Rice will be dumb to join a club who has almost zero chance of winning something next season
@@Timbone07 Chelsea has an infinitely better chance at winning anything above spurs and west ham so I think they'll be alright but thanks for your concern. We won a CL two years ago. Whats ur team done

how have klopp's adjustments not worked? i'm pretty sure liverpool has won almost every game since he switched to the back 3
Because they were still giving up goals. He said it didn't work to soldify the defense not it didn't work to get wins.
The mess they are currently in, yes. Top four title chasers ... maybe!
Jesus H Christ himself would have trouble resurrecting this particular Lazarus in a timely fashion.
Makes me miss the DESK era! Even though we didn’t win anything it was truly fun football when everything clicked
i see no reason y he couldn't be reintegrated back in the team.
9:05, the player is Levi Colwill
What an amazing video! Thank you for creating this!
I think that ziyech would fit the right inbetween role because that was his role at ajax instead of mount
Chelsea has the John Stone/ Eric Dier role with Ethan Ampadu. Cesar Casadei is still raw but can end up in that role.
Or Colwil or Fofona
I hope that Poch gives Hudson Odoi a chance when he finishes his loan in Germany. Hes a world class crosser of the ball, ready to beat the RB or LB, blistering speed.
Levi Colwill can be pretty good for us. Can't wait!
Clearout at front and wing is the answer: havertz, kova, sterling, ziyech, pulisic, auba, felix... Just need nkunku and 1 striker next summer.
I love how you explain the tactics
Easy solution: Kepa, Gusto, fofana, Badiashile, chilwell, James, Enzo, Nkunku, Mudryk, Lukaku, Madueke. Inverting Gusto and Chilwell, Madueke and Mudryk starting out wide. (I’m not even a Chelsea fan)
Spolier: No, he can't.
Noone can .
Best formation for Chelsea now will be 4-3-1-2
Keppa
James, Fofana, Silva, Chilwell
Mount, Fernandez, Kovacic
Felix
Lukaku, Sterling
Ethan ampadu can literally play the cdm/cb role what is he on about.
But he hasn't shown PL quality. He just not good enough.

Great video, just interested why Kantes name wasn’t mentioned at all?
This makes a lot of sence! Great work as always.
Curious to think about the following players in that DM/ CB role: Chalobah, Silva, Azpi…
Trevir Chlobah can easily play defensive midfielder role. He's being overlooked.
I'm pointing out who Bellingham reminds me of and why: Did you see Dembele dribbling and his skill at getting through and around players? It reminds me of Bellingham.
Why would you spend 150m on Bellingham to play DM? That does not make any sense as he's a B2B player! ;-)
Buying Rice might be a perfect solution to this !!
I’m certain CFC will purchase a DM
able to perform the DM/CB role this summer… Andrey Santos will definitely be in the first team squad next season imo.
Colwill, Maatsen, Nkunku, Gusto and potentially Santos added to it as well.
great video, strangely very calming.
I don’t know why I heard Doggie McKenzie pronouncing lukaku as Luke Aku
I think Felix should go back, since we have nkunku who can play in the second Stricker role, and we have Havertz as well. felix would be sent back IMO, unless Mount goes as well, its a headache for Pochettino
i think Pochettino could play in a 4231, Chelsea has the players for it.
This would be the team if they let go of Lukaku and buy Jonathan David and let Kante and Mount go out on a free.

GK: Kepa (Mendy & Slonina)
LB: Chilwell (Cucurella)
LCB: Thiago (Badiashile)´

CM: Kovacic (Gallagher & Hall)
LW: Sterling (Mudryk & Pullisic)
OM: Nkunku (Carney)

Enzo is wasted as a 6 and there are big rumours that chelsea want a proper cdm to push enzo forward, a gk onana from inter being linked and a striker, could really be anyone, what i would say is we lack physicality compared to that spurs team, our only starters who would be categorised as physical are only probably reece james and thats really it, we need more physicality we get out muscled on the ball. My worry is that is Poch good enough for Chelsea though?
Why can't R James not play in midfield like Stones and TAA ? Chelsea is getting a new RB in summer. @TifoIRL
Same issue as moving Fernandez deeper, you lose the contribution he makes further up the pitch. He's an outstanding fullback, and should be played as such
Doesn’t fit the profile of a midfielder as well as Trent and Stones, also Trent is still a rightback, he is just inverting more
@@deeznoots6241 I don't think he will still be a RB next season. (And he shouldn't be)
I don't think we can count in Kovacic since it's likely he will transfer to FC Bayern Munich
We need to stop buying random players, have serious goals and give time to the work of Poche ( A solid work need time ) 💙
Enzo is a six ..why is everyone trying to push him forward? He isn't Bruno G who runs around everywhere he is more like a Pirlo. Pass and move. He doesn't play back to goal or any of that. He either gets a partner or plays deep alone
Good breakdown but should be revised after the transfer window
Jon, great video, but please don't ever compare Mateo Kovacic to Moussa Dembele again.
sounds like paralysis by analysis at this point when it comes to chelsea.
he can play a 4-4-2 for all i care as long as he can get our players to strike a football accurately and hard enough into the back of the net....
Why is everyone forgetting about the starter for Germany and record signing Havertz? More talented than anyone there. If you want a false 9, you got him
He doesn't score, barely assists and has middling defensive output.

Chelsea can play possession football with d squad they have
We dont have d physicality like b4 but we have skills with a lot of technical players that might not be very good a physical situation
I dont think its a coach issue. No coach will do wonders here without a implementation of a smart squad building with correct profiles.
This Chelsea frankestein team has been the works of at least 5 managers, and that needs to change fast. Give him a chance to build a squad not just throw money at talents.
Outstanding but you're really feeding my football manager addiction with this level of analysis.
It’s crazy that Chelsea have that many players yet still look weak at RW.
Excellent analysis!!
Felix, Kova, and probably Mount gone. Chelsea are going through serious changes. Think it could be another tough season. Damn.
That way if poch doesnt work either you dont loose much
They could give Colwill a shot at the Dier position
Ummmm excuse me but i think under Lampard in his second season, he played Reece in the midfield and he played very well
Under 21s dont count only if they were at the club for I think 3 seasons. So Madueke, Mudryk, Badiashile, Chukwuemeka, Santos, Datro- They all count because of that
Isn't nkunku arriving in the summer ? Completely missed him out
Why did they even buy Mudryk
