Jim Perry was incredibly gracious to me. As a nervous kid, just out of school, he made it his business to make me feel comfortable as I progressed through 11 shows. He kept plugging my nascent comedy career and never missed a chance to set me up for a punch line. A gentleman, and an extremely talented host - he makes it look simple. In three days, he helped change the course of my life. It was a huge thrill for me, just 7 years later, to have him as a guest on MY show. RIP Jim.
M Decarlo wow what an incredible run that must have been so nerve racking I saw you close your eyes when Deborah buzzed in on that last question my heart was pounding for you I was so excited to see you win SOTC was one of my favorites and Mr Perry was a class act
M Decarlo, I agree we would love to see who u beat to start ur run on SOTC? Also why did ur show Studs end? Ur a great guy and great host on it. I watched it as a kid😀
April 8, 1985 was a historic day for $OTC. Mark won the entire lot that day on the NBC edition. Later that day (or night, depending on where you were), the "infamous" Alice Conkright won the entire lot on the syndicated edition. Unlike Mark, who had a challenging speed round and won on a tiebreaker when his opponent got the question wrong, Alice dominated the game, especially the speed round. She won the entire lot in six days, a record for $OTC (U.S. version). She rejected every Instant Sales bargain during her reign (this is what makes her "infamous"), with Jim on his knees begging, pleading and "crying", to no avail. Among the Instant Bargain she rejected: a trip to Hawaii (to which she's never been, according to her). On top of that, she defeated Michael Friedman, who was going for the lot himself. This episode with Mark and the one with Alice, should be shown back-to-back.
Has anyone ever lost in going for the 50k or going for everything on the stage in the early season and just left w instant bargains fame game prizes..... this was before Curtis is assume.

M Decarlo do you still have that first episode with Jim on your show? If so can you show it
What a wonderful tribute to a REAL Talented Emcee
God Bless You and God Bless Mr. Perry, May he R.I.P.

Also one more question, would u ever host another game show and if so which one? Maybe a revival of SOTC? For a million $$ prize at the end?
You know I don't mind. Once when I was 23, I went on a game show. That of course changed my life!

This still makes me tear up.
Looks like you're going to the Shadow Realm Jimbo
proably one of the most dramatic finishes in game show hstory
Very much so.
Mark is in a new commercial as guess what a game show host
Sale of the Century was the one daytime game that saw a lot of champions walk away with over $100,000 in winnings
Dan Barker So did the 1990's syndicated version of Break the Bank
That was syndicated, not network.
of course, there was Michael Larson on that rival show Press Your Luck.
I hope that GameTV in Canada is going to air this historic episode.
Mark DeCarlo would later go on to host the dating game show Studs, and do the voice of Jimmy Neutron's father, Hugh
Also hosted the game show called the big deal on fox in 1996
It's Hugh Neutron
9:07 Great move Howard!
I watched a few episodes of Studs with Mark DeCarlo in syndication
Mom & Dad...RELAX!!! (yeah right!!!!!!)
Is Mark the first person to win EVERYTHING on the winners board?
Is Mark the first person to win the $50,000 on the winners board?
Yes he was, the others took their prizes and ran.
