  • A remote dirt crossroads in the Mojave Desert was the scene of a grisly discovery Tuesday night. Six people, likely shot to death, were found near two vehicles, including one that was riddled with bullet holes, authorities said.
The bodies were discovered around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday when deputies responded to a welfare check off Highway 395, a remote area roughly 25 miles northwest of Victorville in San Bernardino County. Officials initially indicated there were five victims but during their investigation, a sixth body was discovered a few hundred feet away, sheriff’s spokesperson Mara Rodriguez said.
KTLA's John Fenoglio reports on Jan. 24, 2024.

Any word on what tipped them off to want to look in that area? It was said that a call came in for a check-up, but who is going to call in and say, "Hey, I haven't heard from any one out in the middle of nowhere for a while, can you go check on them?"

The Sheriff has talked about the problem with Cartels operating in the high desert. San Bernardino County is the biggest county in the U.S. and has hundreds of square miles of remote desert. El Miage isn't that remote. It's also a big off-road/riding area. Hopefully, this isn't the beginning of regular such discoveries. This reminds me of the beginning of No Country for Old Men.
