  • In using the concept of "Better times", I was reminded of all the people who have asked about Clark and Subic Bay through the years following the evacuation.
Since I documented Americans and Filipinos in their day to day lives at various Philippines locations from 1988 until the 1991 evacuation, I've attempted to temper the bitter with the gentle sweet of the past. The many thousands of miltary members who served at Clark Air Base will remember Cope Thunder exercises documented in this piece. This captured the pride of a visiting Thai air force, who brought their F-16 aircraft to participate January 1990.
Others may be delighted to relive scenes of the various base clubs, streets and other facilities that served us so well.
My next video entry will lean more toward recent developments that have occurred since our departure.
Yes! Clark, Subic Bay and other Luzon-area locations have come along way and flourished quite remarkably since the events of Mt. Pinatubo. Many will be pleasantly surprised with modern-day images of Pampanga Province, around Air Force City at Clark and Subic's changes toward becoming a special economic duty-free zone of commerce.
    Stay Tuned...

Thanks for sharing. I was stationed there from 1987-1991. This video brought back many memories of the base. Nice to see Kelly Cafeteria and the Silver Wings. Loved the Chop Suey at Kelly Cafeteria. Also good SOS on toast for breakfast. I know things change and everything is much different now, but it's nice to have these memories

I still keep the two ceramic decorative figures--- a gift from our family friend, Filipina Lea Eco Werthwein, who's married to Vincent "Jack" Werthwein who worked at the MAC terminal. The pieces were made from the Arts and Craft center. We got the latest news from tuning in to FEN. Thanks to the iconic Sgt. Rusty Barfield. Got my first taste of Baskin Robbins ice cream there. On base, it was Anthony's and off-base, it was Didi's pizza. On base, it was at the Taco shop and off-base, it was Del's taco bar. Thanks to Virgil Hopper for capturing these precious memories!

4:00 ; Kelly Cafeteria was my breakfast stop when I worked at 13AF. I destroyed many orders of SOS/hash browns/fried egg in that place !

Best assignment in the U.S. military by far. But let's not forget the GIs shot by the NPA in October, 1987.

This is the time when i was very young, when air base was in Clark. You can see many foreign men in bars 😅 it made me think most military men like to marry bar girls.

We military men did want to marry bar girls since that's where most of them were....I married one from a very small bar....she was smart, pretty and spoke really good English and took care of herself. I brought her back to the USA she got her citizenship in 3 years.....we were married for 10 years and now she lives in Florida with another retired military fellow......I was in the Philippines from 1970-1974 and various other times in the late 70s.....we had fun but for any girl during my time there all they wanted was a better life......everyone was trying to get married. To do it again.....I wouldn't marry a filipina they kind of stray when they have many filipina friends here in the states......too many temptations and most civilian guys here in the states don't really care if they are married or not.....that's just the way it is. cheers :)

@@leonard5606 sad to hear your story. I wish you have someone better today. Sorry for the word bar girls. I just explain what was my thought when I was young. 1970-1974 still I'm not yet born 😅 but I can say more on US MILITARY base here in the Philippines are well taken care of until now. Clark is one of that. Still clean. I remember when my uncle and brother are driving in Clark way to Duty free, we used to stop at traffic lights even there's no other cars. We all joke, yes because we are inside clark air base. 😅 (follow the rule) But if we're not, sure my uncle and brother will drive Filipino style driving. 😂 I salute you as a veteran sir! God bless!

@@Jacparas That's what the girls were called during my time there "bar girls" unless of course they worked retail somewhere or worked on base there were bars up and down MacArthur Hwy not just on Fields Ave. so there were many girls to chose from.....anyways you shop at a duty free store? What kind of prices do they have in there it seems other vloggers never shop there.....maybe they can't afford it. cheers Nice chatting with you...... :)
