I never went to college so I wasn’t able to be part of a team like this! Y’all have a new fan and follower. Thank you for bringing those memories back!
The "100" is still the "100." Some things just never change. Fond memories of what happened down on the "patch," and Dr. Foster's famous last words, "Let's do it again, gentlemen!" The "100" was all male back then - just the musicians, no flags or frills. Doc - a.k.a. "the Law" - used to say, "We don't need all that stuff to make our band look good!" I remember the band still on the practice field - a.k.a. "the Patch" - long hours after the football team was already in the cafeteria for dinner. Some of the team used to come down after dinner to watch the "100" practice. I was on that snare drum line in 1968 (my sophomore year), but had to leave FAMU that same year for medical reasons before the season even started. It remains a big part of my foundation even to this day. To this day, the "100" is the most imitated marching band in the world. Does anyone out there remember that the "100" did the half-time show for Super Bowl III in Miami? It was the first Super Bowl officially called "the Super Bowl." They also did the half-time show the last time the Cleveland Browns won a championship (1964). That is when I first saw them (I'm from Cleveland). I could go on...
