I'd say the third phase spawn is not that bad, enough trees for saplings for a tree farm, plenty of space to build and for animals to spawn so you can make farms... Truly marvelous.
Plains is good for early-game mining and food farming, a lot of types of house design mid-game, or for late-game village/ monument construction after you’ve beaten survival and have tons of items to waste.

Agreed.Getting the island that has sugar cane AND a tree is pretty freakin rare. Usually it’s a treeless island with only some grass and sand, and you have to make an arduous swim to the mainland to get your first crafting table and stack of wood to work with 🪵 🪓 If you luck out and get an island like 0:14, living there can be a fun “build your way up from nothing” challenge
