by Carolena Nericcio , its a book and it came with a music cd and dvd with tribal basics. The dvd has easy to learn tribal basics, followed by a zill combo and lots of performance clips. The music cd is the best and the book has alot of important information on belly dance. You can find more on the website.
I NEVER tire of seeing old clips of Carolena, Kathy and Rena performing together. I first saw them in the early 2000s when I got Volume 1 Tribal basics. I enjoy seeing clips of the "olden and golden" FCBD performances....
I think it is Karen Gehrmenn in this clip, Kathy Stahlmann was in other performances
Pure magic.. these women are so strong and graceful and they make it look so easy.. Sooo much respect for them..
for those who don't know about FTBD, everything is improvised by following cues from whichever dancer takes the lead. it is very smooth and beautiful to watch. had the chance to attend a seminar with them. they are patient teachers and the performance got a standing ovation.
Jamila Salimpour started Tribal in the sense that she started a more folkloric style in the early 60s. She was also one of the first people to teach bellydance in the US at all.
Carolena and FCBD started ATS with the group improv in the mid 80s.

ATS is a dance format created by Carolena Nericcio... Tribal influence and elements were brought by Jamila, but the ATS format is Carolena's.

Xibee I couldnt agree with you more Carolena changed the image of belly dance from tacky to classy ,,The tribal style is what I follow and this is the first dvd i purchased and what a wonderful form of dance that I truley love and dance with a passion,, I thank Carolena from the bottom of my heart for the gift of dance...

I loe ATS with turbns. I love the look better than the modern one with haor sticks and stuff. the Turban is unique and personal like the dancer's tattooing. I love it!

Hey I got that CD, but it doesn't have the second part on there. It only has the first. Do you know where to find the second part?
who created ATS ? some say its carolena and some say its Jamila Salimpour...?
Carolena did. Jamila danced cabaret style but she created Bal Anat which was the "seed" for Tribal Bellydance.
