How did I never know this piece before? Thanks for the great video. Lovely performance. I love the point about the expressiveness of the single hand. Sometimes to help express a “singer’s leap” on the piano I will play both notes with the same finger to force myself to physically make that leap and take the necessary time.
Yes! Great point. Apropos of this I remember a certain very well known teacher expressing how differently the opening of Chopin's E-flat nocturne op 9 no 2 becomes when you play the opening Bb-Eb with 2-5 instead of 1-5. Even just feeling a greater stretch in your hand changes the interpretation.
this and it's source vocal work(s) are surely amongst Liszt's most beautiful conceptions. Man it looks difficult, I don't think I am going to try that (maybe I can find a singer....). Great to see you again Cole and I hope you have fully recovered from your illness.
It must be both invigorating AND exhausting to have such a packed schedule of wonderful projects. 20:08 what a wonderful section of music. So Liszt-esque in the cross-overs with that “3 hand” sound surrounding the melody. Stunning 🎉
Thanks for the update as to what has been happening to you in December . . . I was beginning to fear you had been abducted by piano-obsessed aliens and whisked away to some distant part of the galaxy, forced to play for them rather than your many thousands of UA-cam subscribers! (Joking apart, sincerely sorry to hear you have also been ill, but glad you enjoyed your trip to Montreal before succumbing to the alien virus.) The Liszt packs some emotional punch in this extraordinary arrangement for piano solo. Your virtuosic performance of such beautiful music means you have to be forgiven for abandoning us for a month as this performance is a wonderfully promising start to 2025. Wishing you a very Happy New Year, Cole, filled with exciting opportunities and blessed with all your heart's desires: B R A V O !
Dear Cole, what a wonderful, subtle and truly enlightening contribution you shared! Finally someone as sensitive as you highlighting Liszt’s genius in aemulating such a beautiful song. My, my, what a discovery. I enjoyed it immensely. Thank you so much! Respectfully, Tillo
Great performance and discussion, Cole. Very happy that you recovered from illness and very glad you took time to get away. Happy New Year! Wishing you the very best fro 2025!
Cole have you played the 4th piece from the Harmonies Poétiques Pensee de mort? Would be amazing to hear you make a video on it. I think its a masterpiece
Happy new year Cole, Sir ! Listening to you from France and as always with intense pleasure. BTW your French pronunciation sounds really good... Can you speak the language ?

Love to see some appreciation for this unsung masterpiece. 🪿
@cristoharijan7618 Yes, especially when Liszt quotes the Psalm 24 in the climax - 'Mirror mirror on the wall who clapeth the cheek best of all? 🪞🇨🇳

Thank you-I can't say I speak French really, but I keep trying!
Where’d you get this sheet music!! I could never find it anywhere without piano and voice having separate staves.
It'd be under Liszt's transcriptions of his own music. The S. number is S. 531, No. 3
@@farazhaiderpianoTHANK YOU!!!
It is on ISMLP in "Buch der Lieder I," as farazhaiderpiano says S 531 no 3 🙂
