No matter what, you cannot remove "Carouselambra". That middle angry guitar section remains one of Zep's best musical moments in my opinion. Cool video JCM.
I agree. Page's ability to come up with guitar parts that were so unusual but fit perfectly is what set him apart from his peers. . It was NEVER predictable and always captured the mood of the song . He just thinks differently than other players
I was OBSESSED with "ITTOD" upon its release. It stayed on my turntable for MONTHS. It is PERFECT the way it is. Who in the world wants to change it?!?!? All these years later, it remains my favorite LZ album, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with "Physical Graffiti". "Carouselambra" is PEAK Led Zeppelin.
@@DrVonChilla the fact that ANY of the Zeppelin albums can be someone's favourite is a testament to the band and why they are considered one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Not many bands can claim that for all of their studio albums
It kicks ass. Zep went out on a high note with that LP. They showed vision and ability to take chances while living up to their heavy hitting legacy. A refreshing, exuberant album.
Perfect timing I’ve been listening to this record a lot lately. Carouselambra is my favorite track and I think a glimpse into what an 80’s Zeppelin might’ve started to sound like.
Carouselambra is one of the most progressive tracks, even for Zeppelin! Not sure if you've watched this but i talked about the band continuing their path into the 80s! ua-cam.com/video/iqxnwvhq3Go/v-deo.htmlsi=lQ9EXplhoIdMAw7l
I literally do not understand how anyone can hate Out Door. Not only is is a well-produced record with tons of space and clarity without being an LA pop album, the songs are strong, some parts are brilliant, the best of their career. Zeppelin is mature, unbothered by contemporary trends, and even playful. I come back to it and other latter-day records of theirs than the earlier stuff. There's more for the ear to savor, more dynamics, more contemplation. Zeppelin was phenomenal on day one, but by 75 they have acquired a wisdom and confidence that stands out to me. They only got better from there. People love the "young and hungry band" trope, and i get it, lots of bands exude that, but elder Zeppelin is something else entirely, i guess it really is an acquired taste. Maybe it just takes time. It sucks looking back and saying, "this is what I've been missing?!" I love getting older and learning from that.
Because bands have to have a bad album according to critics (who usually can't play instruments nevermind sing), Led Zeppelin's ITTOD has been the poster child for this and it's a damn shame. Like you said, there's more dynamics and contemplation, that is a brilliant observation. They seem to take more time to FEEL things. I can't listen to BLACK DOG and think this, but South Bound Saurez, you are hit with GROOVE....a mature sounding band. Your comment was SPOT ON! Thank YOU for watching and sharing your thoughts!
Yeah in my "older" years, PG, Presence, and Out Door are really the only Zeppelin albums I still listen to. No that's not true, I do absolutely love III. But I still don't listen to it as often as the others. I haven't put on 1, 2, and 4 in years.
@D-Fens_1632 that's sad your missing there Best. 4 is the best produced/ sounding album I've ever heard. And all songs are 9 -10. . But interesting u didn't mention HOTH
... The songs are not bad, the sleeve art is acceptable... my problem is with the production; This vid adresses the track order, but there's the vocal recording (with the stuttered echo), the synthetizer excess, the pop-sound.... With the right production it could have sounded like Physical Grafiti, which was IMO better.
I bought In Through the Out Door on cd back in 1991 and maybe listened to it once. It went to the bottom of my collection. In the spring of 2023, I pulled it out from my collection and I cannot stop listening to it. That album is just unbelievable from start to finish. It took me 32 years to appreciate it.
I am very happy to read this! Once you find the magic on the album...like you said, one can't stop listening to it! How many copies do you own? Hehe hopefully not 62 like me!
I bought ITTOD at Virgin Records, Newcastle, UK, on the day of release, just a couple of weeks after the two Knebworth shows. It went straight to number one in the UK and USA. The excitement was real and I remember being one proud, 16-year-old Led Zeppelin fan.
Great video JCM!! All of the different scenarios you've presented are viable! I do wish ITTOD would have contained a couple more Rockers for posterity. But with Zeppelin, there are no mistakes, its all great!!
@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories You really captured what could have been, because the material being so diverse, with some of Coda's influence, it could have given the album more of a House of the Holy feel, or dare I say a Physical Graffiti approach, but with a modern twist! Heavy guitar tracks would have rounded it out better. I know you're not a fan of Hot Dog, but just imagine Walter's Walk followed by Hot Dog??, Two different kinds of energy working off each other. Either way, Great Job as always JCM!!😁🎸
1. Wearing & Tearing 2. Fool in the Rain 3. Hot Dog 4. Darlene 5. In the Evening 6. I’m Gonna Crawl 7. Southbound Saurez 8. Carouselambra 9. All of my Love
By late 1980 they had the demo for Fortune Hunter, Wearing and Tearing, Fire (Say You’re Gonna Leave Me), the riff for Shake My Tree, Darlene, Ozone Baby, Walter’s Walk, Swan Song, 10 Ribs & All, and Bonzo’s Montreux. The band also had the unused ITTOD drum track and the nine-second blues snippet from the rehearsal tapes. Those early sessions at Clearwell Castle in May 1978 yielded Fire (Say You’re Gonna Leave Me), and the last song written for ITTOD was Wearing and Tearing. This shows that Jimmy's vision for the album was very different than the finished product. What else did he have prepared between July 1977 and September 1980? What other material did they rehearse that we haven’t heard yet? While I appreciate their effort to innovate, it’s clear they left some truly remarkable material off the record. The shift from Presence to ITTOD is simply too jarring. Listen to Tea For One and then In The Evening-the difference between the two albums is too abrupt. In The Evening and I’m Gonna Crawl are among their best work, but I’ll never fully understand why they chose tracks like South Bound Suarez, Hot Dog, and Fool In The Rain over the outtakes like Fire and Wearing and Tearing-those songs completely outshine the ones they picked. As for Carouselambra, I wish they had made the guitar more prominent in the mix and replaced the synth with something heavier, using the thunderous preset like at Clearwell Castle. The synth in the studio version is almost grating. We’ll never know exactly how things would’ve turned out, but I’m certain Jimmy has more unreleased gems from that time (like the unused ITTOD drum track and the nine-second blues snippet they tried to erase from the rehearsal tapes). It took 39 years for 10 Ribs & All to be released and 50 years for The Seasons to see the light of day-tracks that no one even knew existed. "In The Evening" and "I'm Gonna Crawl" are perfect bookends to the album; they function like the slices of bread in a sandwich-take one away, and the whole thing falls apart. "All My Love" serves as the hit single that kept the album afloat, but it really belongs on one of Robert’s solo albums, not Zeppelin’s. Carouselambra should have been produced differently-heavier, with thunderous synths and guitar more prominent in the mix-making it the epic centerpiece it could have been. Meanwhile, tracks like South Bound Suarez, Fool In The Rain, and Hot Dog feel like filler, much like Royal Orleans, Candy Store Rock, and Hots on for Nowhere. That’s seven strong songs, three filler tracks, and production missteps that contributed to the album's enduring divisiveness. It’s a shame. If you combine In The Evening, I'm Gonna Crawl, and Carouselambra (the Clearwell Castle version) with Fire (Say You’re Gonna Leave Me), Wearing and Tearing, the riff from Shake My Tree, and Bonzo’s Montreux, it’s clear we were robbed of a much stronger album than In Through the Out Door turned out to be. These tracks show that the band still had an incredible ability to write great music while pushing boundaries-they had so much more to give, but the flaws were in the execution and the final product. Take the strongest tracks from In Through the Out Door, remove the filler, and add the best outtakes… In The Evening Fire (Say You’re Gonna Leave Me) Shake My Tree Bonzo’s Montreux Carouselambra (Clearwell Castle Version) Wearing and Tearing I’m Gonna Crawl
They went for a different direction cause remember Robert's traumatic association to the past? Wounds of 1977 were still fresh...you can't blame a man for taking a different path when Led Zeppelin technically disbanded by August 1977. I can't but praise a band for taking chances instead of Aerosmithing their way throught the same stuff and Desmond Childing their way back to the top. The best thing about ITTOD is that it showed they could still create GREAT material letting other's take the lead instead of Page. Bonhams' drumming is up there with this best, trying to sound like THIS is Hard.
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories I'm not disputing Robert's tragedy or his desire to explore new territory. For instance, I admire how Genesis evolved from Trick of the Tail to Duke. The opening synth in "Behind The Lines" delivers a thunderous punch-an exhilarating intro to a new decade. The difference here is that Genesis’ previous album already hinted at the direction they were heading, and everyone embraced it. In contrast, the shift between Presence and In Through the Out Door feels too jarring, which is why many people have never fully understood the album. This was my first Zeppelin album that I bought. It was my introduction to the band. I was 14 when it came out and I fell in love with the band. In the Evening is a masterpiece.I just missed out on seeing them live . The 1980 world tour never happened.😢😢
ITTOD Side A: 1. Carouselambra should be the opening just as the epic Achilles last stand opens Presence. 2. Wearing and Tearing, the heaviest minutes to keep the power up. 3. Fool in the rain slows down a bit. Closes side A with very exotic notes. Side B: 1. In the evening with the ambient opening and then the sick riff 2. South Bound Suarez a very groovy song 3. All my love, one of the best Zepp tunes 4. Im gonna crawl to end in a perfect bluesy way. The single should have been Wearing and Tearing with Hot Dog as B side. A single that became legendary. Thanks for the content I love it!
I dig your picks, SIDE A is quite strong picking up steam by the minute. It's rhythmically strong and sets the tone. Side B makes sense you followed the actual album structure without South and Fool in the Rain nor Hot Dog disturbing things too much. I like your pick for the SINGLE, definitely works! Thank YOU for sharing!
Presence is my favorite record but if you put all of the In Through The Out Door outtakes back on the record, it just might bump it up to number 1. There's a reason why Coda is in my top 5 and it's those outtakes.
I listen to this album as a double album... it's the only LZ album I change from the original. Using some older tracks but not all of them: Side 1 In The Evening Ozone Baby South Bound Saurez Side 2 Hot Dog Fool In The Rain Wearing and Tearing Side 3 Carouselambra Walter's Walk Bonzo's Montreux Side 4 Darlene All My Love I'm Gonna Crawl
These are all good, and the last one is from an alternate universe crazy. I like the scenario that they release it as is, postpone the US tour as the other 3 relent to Bonham's desire to stay off the road, then record more songs including "Who's to Blame", "Slow Dancer", and more futuristic synth from JPJ. Bonham sobers up, they slow their touring down, and they make it through the mid eighties before taking on solo projects and they occasionally reunite for epic live performances. But hey, you have 62 copies of ITTOD, so you carry more weight than I do!
Lots of what ifs which I really like so with that Page was really next to die...may have gone before if not for Bonhams death...I think they stopped at the right time regardless...80s were a terrible times for bands artists singers
Great episode,Jose. Love Outdoor. It could easily be my fav Zeppelin album. If I were to change anything it would be adding Wearing and Tearing. Darlene would be a nice addition too. Cheers 👍
Saludos !!
Somehow, they should have used the extended outro from All of my Love. It's outstanding, it must be one of Jimmy Page's best solos, and practically no one has heard it.
My Go-to Alternative Version (not that I don't love the original) is: Side 1 1. In the evening 2. Ozone baby 3. Fool in the rain 4. All my love Side 2 1. Wearing and tearing 2. Carouselambra 3. I'm gonna crawl Side 2 should be fine with the songs length, perhaps side 1 is a bit too long? Idk. Now that I think of it... How could I exclude Walter's walk? That's just too difficult, I'll leave the job to you, man! 😂
Great seleciton, it finds a balance of rocking and rolling with the ballads there too. A nice exercise to think the what ifs right? Thank you for watching!
The 9th album frequently has a repeated spinning in my drives around the countryside these days. Carouselsmbra being the main reason. This song has grown on me in recent years. I bought the album when it was initially released and back about the first years of 2000s I sought to find each of the varying LPs to have the entire art concept. When Coda was released it too was a great new offering but in truth, it’s the one that only rarely comes to the surface to be visited. When Ozone Baby was added to one of the box sets, I had to have it, even though it’s easily the only song that actually is not worthy of being released let alone written. I have say, the likelihood of outtakes being released being better than the ones that were released is pretty solidly suggestive of being better left on the cutting room floor. I’m sure Page or Jones has some crazy good stuff on tape but until It’s fully fleshed out, it’s just ideas that were part of the process. Love your work ❤
Ozone Baby is a strange song to write you know? If we dissect the elements it's puzzling to think how did they put it together. Not because it's impossible to play but just the concept. Maybe it was a warm up song on the 1978 Rehearsals? I like the TADADUM TADADUM accents Bonham plays which basically mimic Page's riff. He had a lot of guitar POWER left for ITTOD contrary to haters. CODA is a personal favorite record! Thanks for watching!
Just had to add, no, no way ITTOD works without Carouselambra no matter what sequence is proposed. It points Zep into the 80's and beyond. Wow thanks for this what if doc, Jose. This is what a great doc is supposed to do: make you think.
My pleasure! I had PTSD after even thinking of ITTOD without Carouselambra. It remains a movie within the album. A short film that describes their 1977 demise...and hopeful comeback.
@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories lol Yea it's such a vital song , musically and lyrically ( if you can hear the words through that muddy mix ) that it simply has to be on the album. I felt like I betrayed ' Carouselambra ' for even thinking the album went well without it. Sorry , ' Carouselambra '.. hopefully you forgive me..
It’s not hard: Side 1: 1) In The Evening 2) Ozone Baby 3) Fool In The Rain 4) I’m Gonna Crawl Side 2: 5) Wearing And Tearing 6) Carouselambra 7) All My Love It’s a more upbeat - or at least, loving - ending. Page gets another rocker in there. Ozone Baby has that thing that switches up the rhythm from the first song.
I'd probably buy all of the versions you propose, they actually sound amazing. Please arrange something with Jimmy and release for Christmas next year 😉
Yea. I always thought that a double album is the only real answer IMO. And _maybe_ the BBC Sessions could have helped with the 9th album contract. Also, maybe Page could have released more Live albums to help out with that Atlantic contract. [shrug] Also . . . I have been a Zep - Super-Fan - since 1980, and I absolutely LOVE 'Hot Dog', and also 'Ozone Baby'. And 'Carouselambra' is my top favorite Zep song at the moment, and will probably stay that way till the end.
It would be a pretty amazing double album! I like the fact you love Hot Dog, me too, can't understand why people crap on it so much, the chorus is actually STRONG. Carouselambra, what a MIGHTY TRACK RIGHT? i'm right there with you man!
This is my big hobby horse of late, so it's funny you did a video on this. My running order, with regard to album side length and track flow is: Side 1 - Wearing and Tearing, Walter's Walk, Ozone Baby (yep I love this one!), All My Love Side 2 - Fool in the Rain, Carouselambra, Darlene
It's a healthy hobby to have right? Ozone before All My Love, that's a cool idea. I like your selection even though Darlene is not my favorite. Thanks for tuning in Anthony!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Haha you asked brother, here goes! It depends on Physical Graffiti having been one disc, per your previous video Coda - Expanded Edition Side 1 - We're Gonna Groove, Poor Tom, In the Light, Night Flight, Down by the Seaside Side 2 - Bron-Yr-Aur, Black Country Woman, The Wanton Song, South Bound Suarez, Hot Dog Side 3 - In The Evening, Boogie with Stu, Bonzo's Montreux, I'm Gonna Crawl Side 4 - Travelling Riverside Blues, I Can't Quit You Babe, Baby Come on Home, Hey Hey What Can I Do
Accordingly, my PG single album is: Side 1 - Trampled Underfoot, The Rover, In My Time of Dying Side 2 - Kashmir, Ten Years Gone, Houses of the Holy, Sick Again
This album is perfect the way it is. I love it and all the outtakes especially Walters Walk that song is so intense. As for Hot Dog it is a fun romp rock a billy country tune that shows the bands versatility. Jimmy Page's lead sounds so good I dare any hard rock band to write and perform something like this. Ah Hot Dog!!! They truly were Hot Dogs!
In Through The Out Door is my favorite Zeppelin album, or at least the one I play the most. I would consider also adding St. Tristan's Sword (from the Coda Deluxe set) to the alternate sequence/album version; it's a cool instrumental and breaks up the album well. I'm a big fan of instrumentals and I wish Zeppelin had done more. Finally, call the new version of this album Out Through The In Door. :-)
I would've loved to add St. Tristan's Sword, the thing is, this was pretty much what ended up on Over the Hills and Far Away's transition in the guitar solo so that's that. But yeah, it's one hell of an instrumental. I like the album name! Definitely a WHAT IF title!
I like the album as it is/ was.. Led Zep1 and In through the out Door are my fav Zep albums. I still have my copy ITOD I bought in 1985 w/ the brown paper bag sleeve still intact too. Led Zep 2 and Graffiti are my next fav's.. I have good memories of road trips in late 80's and early 90's in my '69 Ford Fairlane cranking this album and P Graffiti.
In your 6 song scenario, I would do this: 1. In the evening 2. All my love (great 2nd choice smooth transition) 3. Wearing and tearing (I’m gonna crawl too slow for a side a closer- needed more heavy) Side 2: 1. Fool in the rain (great opener) 2. Caroselambra 3. I’m gonna crawl. - it’s a pity “ozone baby”wouldn’t fit; I love it- great solos also. I also love “south bound”. Maybe a double album?
In my humble opinion, i think presence should have the track "10 rib's and all...". I can't get over this track, even in it's working shape. I have done the math : remove candy store rock and royal orleans, and you get a oh so good zeppelin album. i think CSR and RO could have a place on CODA. i love the drums on those track, and they are catchy, but presence give me headache a bit ^^. Quite a marathon, quite a pace. as for ITTOD, it gets better and better over time. Beautiful songs, great sound, amazing drums
I see I'm Gonna Crawl as Plant's bluesy soloist answer to Page's Tea for One. Indispensable. It was the best track on the album along with Carouselambra. ITTOD was the first Zeppelin album I saw released after I fell for the band. I was disappointed, and remain so on the whole (as opposed to The Wall, which I eventually fell in love with). Great exploration, great job.
Hello from Jacksonville, Florida USA 🇺🇸 Jose! Another great what if scenario video. Much appreciated, sir. Say, you know what? You look good with the group in that picture! Cheers, sir!
I was just watching Robert Plants: Big Log and noticed the gas station scene looks like the cover of ad Company: Desolation Angels. Also the bar scene looks like an alternative In Through The Outdoor scene where Plant is one of the people in the corner.
"Hot Dog" is great. Things worked out perfectly as far as I.T.T.O.D. Possible track listing with no outtakes: Side One, 1) "In the Evening" 2) "Fool in the Rain" 3) "Hot Dog" 4) "I'm Gonna Crawl." Side Two, 1) " All My Love" 2) "Southbound Suarez" 3) "Carouselambra."
The problem with Carouselambra as side Opener, is that it gave haters a chance to THINK about their prejudice with this innovative track. As closer, it sets the tone for the 1980s!
Out Door is actually the Zeppelin album I revisit the most these days. I've had all the albums for decades and collected live tapes for a few years, but I rarely listen to any of it anymore. But once a month or two I just have to listen to Carouselambra.
- overall I think your scenario 2 would have kept the purists more happy, it rocks more.
This idea was challenging for me! Damn. It’s like asking an artist to remove two colors from their painting! I think of this album as a complete composition - I anticipate the next track and play it as an album - a full listen. We tend to overlook sometimes that our favorite bands (and the people within those bands) are going through changes in their lives like everybody else. This album may not have been the record fans envisioned but after the discography they have blessed us with…it has it’s place in their story and my heart!✌️
If scenario 4 existed, I'd own 79 copies of it. Cutting Hot Dog off of In Through The Out Door is like cutting No Quarter off of Houses. OF The Holy. It becomes a completely different record.
I love Wearing and Tearing. It's brilliance and probably should have made the album, but I don't know at what song's expense because In Through the Out Door is a PHENOMENAL ALBUM. It stands tall with the rest of Zeppelin's repertoire.
My album version is: Side 1 1. Bongo’s Montreaux (first 20 seconds or so)/Ozone Baby 2. Darlene 3. Wearing and Tearing 4. In The Evening Side 2 5. Fool In the Rain 6. Carouselambra 7. South Bound Saurez Extended version of All of My Love as a non-album single backed with I’m Gonna Crawl. Side 1 is the rock/guitar side. Side 2 is more experimental. Both sides start with an epic drum into.
Hi Jose, what’s up? Very interesting video as always. I understand your obsession with ITTOD, it’s an excellent album. As someone said in the comments, it’s a more mature Zeppelin…I would say it’s like a good wine that has improved over time, so it should be savoured slowly, appreciating every detail. I never skip a Zeppelin song, no matter what the album, they don’t have bad songs but there are always those that touch me more, in this case it would be Carouselambra and All My Love, I also like Fool In The Rain. And you mentioned Ozone Baby, I listen to that a lot…the isolated drum track, good God, it’s amazing! And what do you think of the good news that Becoming Led Zeppelin will finally be released? It took so long time that I thought I would only watch it in my next incarnation hahaha thanks Jose, take care, see ya
The isolated track for Ozone Baby yes, it's mindblowing. Marcia i am Thrilled at the Documentary Film, hopefully they screen it here in my country. I am excited to hear John Paul Jones talk the most and the John Bonham unreleased audio interview....incredible!
Hi José, I have been OBSESSED with ALL of Led Zeppelin’s albums for a myriad of reasons. As for *In Through The Out Door* - Led Zeppelin were INVITED by ABBA (another one of my all-time favourites) to come and record at their - then newly opened and state-of-the-art - Polar Studios, free of charge - to help promote the new studio with such a high profile band like Led Zeppelin - and they were the first group outside of Sweden and the Nordic countries of Europe to record there. Stockholm, Los Angeles and London are my three favourite places on the planet. The Swedish aesthetic and culture have always fascinated me. At the time, Polar Studios was on the cutting edge of advanced audio recording technology. The studio’s inspiring interior décor was - both calming and energising simultaneously - with its blue and orange colour theme. Then there is the unusual building itself, with its escalating and de-escalating aspects. LOL! On my 14th birthday that year in 1978, ‘Wearing And Tearing’ was recorded, plus another one of my favourite artists, Olivia Newton-John, released her sensational 1978 album, *Totally Hot* on that very same day. And, as if that were not enough, Olivia Newton-John gave a performance during her *Totally Hot World Tour* on that same day with a concert in Stockholm, Sweden at the Konserthuset (The Concert Hall). So, at that one unique moment in time, in that intimate Year of the Earth-Horse, three of my favourite artists converged together in the same place, in one of my top three cities in the world. Cheers! & Happy Holidays! 🎁🎄✨ PS: I’m happy with the album as it is, thank you very much.
Wow, thank you so much for sharing such a detailed and personal story! I can feel your passion for In Through the Out Door and the connection it holds for you-what an incredible intersection of your favorite artists and places. It's amazing to think about Led Zeppelin recording at Polar Studios, blending their magic with the state-of-the-art technology ABBA had in place. I hadn’t really stopped to appreciate how special that must have been, but you really painted a vivid picture. The fact that all of this happened around your 14th birthday in 1978, with Wearing and Tearing being recorded and Olivia Newton-John performing on the same day, makes it even more special. It’s incredible how music and certain moments in time can align so perfectly like that. That must have felt like a cosmic connection between all the things you love! I love your enthusiasm for the Swedish aesthetic too-Polar Studios must have been such an inspiring space for the band, and it’s fascinating how environments like that can impact the music we end up hearing. It’s awesome that you're happy with the album as is, and I totally get why. Your deep connection with that moment and those artists makes In Through the Out Door even more meaningful. Cheers to you, and wishing you Happy Holidays as well! 🎄✨
A ‘lovely indulgence’ again, Jose. I love all the Zep albums but have often thought the following should have happened: 1 - As it comes. 2 - As it comes though la la with lyrics could’ve been special. 3 - Hey hey what can i do for hats off to harper - perfect album 4 - As is (though I know you don’t like 4 sticks). HOTH - the rover and HOTH for the crunge and d’yer maker - becomes possibly their best album…except… PG - just the 8 new tracks with 5 mins trimmed from IMTOD (ditching 2 mins from the opening 4 mins for a start) and 3-4 mins from the ITL - stellar album. Presence - ditch a minute or 2 from ALS/FYL/TFO and add lyrics to 10 ribs - nice bit of variety in an otherwise monochrome album (though it’s my most listened to). - TSRTS - ditch Moby Dick and add OTHAFA and the ocean. - ITTOD - Any variety as per your video but it must have wearing and tearing. - CODA - becomes an incredible double or triple with ALL the leftovers and unfinished things (Fire/swan song etc). The running order may prove a challenge but people will be more forgiving anyway given that it would be a triumphant and fascinating wrapping up exercise. Great work again mate. Have a great Christmas 👍
Ditch Moby Dick on TSRTS? you are CRAZY man hahaah but i like the controversial approach here. I agree with most your picks, 100%, you'r gonna love the next video on these what if series....!! Have yourself a great Christmas too!!!
Nice call including Walter’s Walk. I’ve always included it my version, which is a double album: Side 1 In The Evening Walter's Walk All My Love Side 2 South Bound Saurez Ozone Baby Fool In the Rain Hot Dog Side 3 Carouselambra Darlene Side 4 Bonzo's Montreux Wearing and Tearing I’m Gonna Crawl
Jones' bass playing on Carouselambra is quite Hard to pull off, i mean it's studio session hard, you need Abe Laboriel Sr. or Jeff Berlin to replicate this if Jones wasn't available....
I was on my way to my bowling league listening to Carouselambra on my cassette player. I couldn't get it out of my head. I arrived early as usual to get in a practice game and bowled my highest game up to that point, a 279 missing only 1 pin. I consider ITTOD a tie with zep 4 for their best albums.
It’s amazing what the passage of time can do. I enjoyed “out door” but didn’t play it a great deal. Deep Purple’s Gillan/Glover mark 2 line up were about to split when they made “Who do we think we are?” in 1973. It’s very much their “In through the out 🚪 door” Doesn’t have the innovation of previous Purple albums but sees them, of necessity, having to fall back onto their more straight ahead blues and rock roots .. as say on “Place in line” which has a great mid tempo bluesy solo from Blackmore. It had one of their best songs “Woman from Tokyo” .. which of course Ritchie refused to play live. However I’ve played the album a lot over the years and now value it as a great sounding production, providing a record of, in some ways, a more relaxed Purple. The title was justified because over the following year they became the biggest selling act in the world (No1 Billboard chart 1973-74) Hey, if Gillan hadn’t resigned and they’d had a break for a year they could have been as big as Zeppelin when they regrouped in 1975 😀 We’ll never know. However the first album with Coverdale/Hughes was a scorcher .. Burn 🔥
It was always my favorite thing to reorder albums on cassette lol and I remember after Coda came out I did just that. Made ITTOD into a double album ala Physical Graffiti. As best I can remember ... Side One: In The Evening, Southbound Suarez, Ozone Baby, Walter's Walk Side Two: Wearing And Tearing, All My Love, I'm Gonna Crawl Side Three: Carouselambra, Fool In The Rain, Bonzo's Montreux Side Four: Darlene, Poor Tom, Hot Dog, We're Gonna Groove Something like that lol
Btw Hot Dog is a wonderful track. I mean remember Boogie With Stu? lol Humor is a good thing yo. The only track Zep made that never did anything for me was Hats Off (To Roy Harper) which I replaced on cassette with Hey Hey What Can I Do.
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories TY! Side four is a bit short and I think if I had a cassette player lol the last side would have been Hey Hey What Can I Do, Poor Tom, Darlene, Hot Dog, We're Gonna Groove lol
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Side three was Carouselambra Bonzo's Montreux then Fool In the rain I put them on and yeah that is the hit order right there. lol
I like the double album scenario, with 1 more song added to your proposed tracklist, St. Tristan's Sword only with vocals and Plant's Tolkien inspired lyrics.
Your addition is a great idea!!!!! The only thing with it though is that St. Tristan's Sword was used for Over The Hills and Far Away transition into the guitar solo! As a standalone outtake, it's of course a baddass number!
@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories True, I just always loved this instrumental and lyrically I always envisioned a follow up to The Battle Of Evermore. Love your channel!
St. Tristan was a Scary revelation on Coda Deluxe......they could really blow the competition off with just a Jam. Thank you for supporting the channel man!
For your 'far-fetched' double: Atlantic requiring another album? Out of respect for Bonzo: Marketed as "Rarities": Traveling Riverside, Hey Hey What Can I Do, Sugar Mama, Something Else and other 50s rockers 'from the archives'. Possible "Honeydrippers" type 'roots rock' jam-session in-the-studio with Alan White if they need 'just a few more cuts'. Ala Lennon's Rock 'N' Roll.
Not Alan White though, Cozy Powell please! I am a YES FAN but Alan White doesn't have the attack that Zepp requires. Powell had the attitude at least. I can see the Lennon's Rock and Roll thing, i know Ahmet Ertegun longed for them to do a Honeydripper series....their Whole Lotta Love medleys proved these guys could go for that, but Page and Plant knew better. Never do WHAT THE MAN tells you hahahah.
In the evening, southbound saurez, ozone baby, hotdogs, Walter's walk, all my love, fool in the rain, I'm gonna crawl, wearing and tearing. In that order
My fantasy In Through the Outdoor sequence: In the Evening, Southbound Saurez, Fool In the Rain, Bonzo's Montreaux, Carouselambra, All My Love, Wearing & Tearing, just my 2 cents
Do you think the mystery track may have been one of Plant’s tracks that made it to his album. I mean the 1980 Zep tour was the first tour where no new tracks were tried out. There was a rumor at the time that Page agreed that Plant should use some tracks (the then uncompleted Burning down and Slow Dancer were mentioned in the rumor) for Plant’s album, rather then for future Zep projects. It was rumored at that time that Zep did indeed have some new tracks (Midnight Moonlight, Shake My Tree, Burning Down One Side, Slow Dancer, Moonlight in Samosa). Page let Plant have some after his friend’s (Bonham’s) death.
GREAT question! I checked Robert's solo material and there's no trace of it. There's a brief SYNTH part in the key of A MINOR that could have been an early take of CAROUSELAMBRA. But still, the mystery remains. I think it's entirely possible Plant used some of the vibes from ITTOD. Pictures at Eleven even continues the burning letter stuff from ITTOD you know? Burning....Down....One Side?
I think the problem with the album is "Hot Dog". B-side. Take it out and add "Darlene" and "Ozone Baby". I also like the double album idea, and no problem with lack of material for CODA, we probably would have gotten the 72 concerts (How the west was won) which is not a bad thing. The rest of the leftover tracks as bonus material on remastered versions later.
The problem with 1972 concerts for CODA is that it didn't mee Ahmet's condition to honor their deal which was agreed to in July 1980. It had to be unreleased material unfortunately! Thanks for watching!
heh, put the extra tracks on an album after Coda and call it Reprise. Could make it a double and add some of the outtakes/alternate takes of familiar tracks to make it a good reprise.
I'm cool with "Ozone Baby" and "Wearing and Tearing" replacing "Hot Dog" and "I'm Gonna Crawl", but no "Carouselambra"? Are you insane? It's the best song on the album - and I have felt that way since I bought it in real time in 1979. The lengthy outtakes of it are also awesome.
Dang! Scenarios 2 is genius. That might have completely changed how it was viewed, both at the time and later. The more familiar heavy is featured foremost, making the new more palatable. Look, I absolutely adore every track. I'm VERY grateful for Coda. I tell people Page could stand on stage just drooling on himself and it would be epic!! Far he it from me to second guess Led Zeppelin. But I like Scenario 2 a lot.
Hehe but it cuts Carouselambra, i was hypventilating coming up with that hahahaha. CODA is a great album, truly deserves more praise, Bonham alone is just Killing it!
Side one In the evening Fool in the rain Southbound suarez All my love Side two Carouselambra Im gonna crawl (The lost song). EP Ozone baby Darlene Bonzos montreux Wearing and tearing
The song forgotten here was the other Clearwell Castle song often referenced by Fire or Say You're Gonna Leave Me. This song is a powerhouse, but higher quality recordings of it aren't available that I know of. They had half a next powerhouse album in waiting just in unused/unfinished songs in that one, Swan Song, Bonzo's Montreux, and 10 Ribs plus W&T/Darlene/Ozone Baby. Now what an album that would've been. Or what if you combine them with ITTOD as a double album? Wow.
Absolutely Joseph. Had at least demo Fire in a higher quality recording we know of i would have included this. I just bought my 63rd copy of In Through The Out Door yersterday, LOVE the album hahaha. Thanks for watching!
Forget the running time. An album with nearly a 60 minute running time in those days would have been a game changer. 1. In The Evening 2. South Bound Saurez 3. Fool In The Rain 4. Darlene 5. Wearing And Tearing 6 Hot Dog 7. Carouselambra 8. Ozone Baby 9. All My Love 10. I’m Gonna Crawl
I like the running order! It works! Thing is that would mean a Double Album was needed as that selection still needs some 10-20 min to fill/complete the second LP.
Joni Mitchell’s 1977 double album ‘Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter’ is only 60 minutes long; a little underfed for a double but it wouldn’t have been unprecedented had LZ decided to follow suit. On the other hand, Todd Rundgren had released several single albums by this time that ran 60 minutes or more, so that wouldn’t have been unheard of either, it just wouldn’t have sounded as good. Had this been a double album, Coda would have been unnecessary from a contractual point of view, as a double album counts as 2 albums delivered to the company. In my opinion, the album we got is already the best version of itself.
Coda still would have been a pending item. Remember it was based on the Ahmet Ertegun agreement shaking hands July 1980 in Munich. This is why they had to honor it and come up with something for 1982.
Don’t forget about the song: Fire! I’ve grown to adore this release over the years. Zeppelin were NEVER a band to stick to one thing and forever they were in the state of evolution. As time passed they seemed to always be one step ahead of their would-be competition. This was an interesting take on “what ifs” Jose. I enjoyed it very much and it all seemed to make good sense! Hey question for you: any digging and a plan to feature anything on the Dallas-based sound company SHOWCO? It’d be interesting to learn more about them and their incredibly busy decade that was the seventies! Last night I was watching a Linda Ronstadt concert from Stadhalle Offenbach, Germany (yes the same venue Zeppelin destroyed three years prior) and before playing the Little Feat song Willin’, she tells a story about how “our SHOWCO crew got stopped at the border at 4am and had to empty out the entire truck before getting the green light to get here and set up!” I’d love to see a list of how much personnel the company had and how many acts they were required to cover over the years! Thanks Jose and merry Christmas!
Of course i remember Fire, too bad there's no outtakes of it, nothing outside of that rehearsal tape. I'd love for them to at least give it a try at Polar! DAMN IT! haha. SHOWCO, that's a fascinating topic, i would like to do that! Wow i didn't know that Ronstadt story. Need to get my European connections to help me out hehe! Merry Christmas to you too man, always a pleasure to read you!
@ …the Offenbach ‘76 Ronstadt concert film is readily available here on YT…and I highly recommend it Jose. The level of musicianship present onstage with this lineup is very high. She had: Waddy, Andrew Gold, Kenny Edwards, Dan Dugmore (pedal steel) and Mike Botts on drums from the band Bread. It’s a seamless, highly enjoyable experience.
Scenario #2 is probably the best one for me. For a running order, it's quite a lot better than the actual album. Much more cohesive. And who knows, if history could have been changed as such, maybe Bonzo would still be alive and Zep would be celebrating on their 56th anniversary world tour.
I don't see Bonham touring a la Nicko from Maiden to be honest, i seriously think he would've sent Jason to step in! Thanks for watching Dave, always a pleasure to read your comments!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Yeah, good point....he was burned on the travel. I dunno about Jason sitting in tho, at least not til the early 2000s. His thing didn't really fit the band all that well til they did the O2 gig. I reckon they woulda called it quits, at least for a while....they were kinda done by 1980. Maybe after a few years off, they woulda reconsidered. Led Zep, North America Tour, 1991!
Side one 1)We’re Gonna Groove 2) Fool in the rain 3) Bonzos Montreux 4)Carouselambra Side Two 1) In the evening 2)I’m gonna Crawl 3) All of my love Side 2 is the mighty Zeppelin giving you a glimpse of LZ going into the 80s! All my love? That’s the heart filled closer to a fantastic album. ITTOD should be structured just as any zeppelin song with the beginning, middle, and ending. The building and layers like only Led Zeppelin can do! How come nobody mentioned we’re gonna groove? Just curious.
We're gonna groove i didn't mention because it's a cover tune and it's live. So based on the studio parameters it can't be there , but trust me, i ABSOLUTELY love it! I like your running order, Bonzo's Montreux is fantastic!
I was just about to type it should have been a double like PG, including some of the things that were on the bonus discs of the remasters, Coda and the original remasters box sets, when you mentioned the idea. I don't have a track listing, I just woke up and I need breakfast....
Good take!! Although, my take as the new drummer would most certainly be Barriemore Barlow, Bonzos own choice, and what an absolute blast to have!! The double album would be my choice, of course, just to shake things a bit!🎶🎵
JPJ was of the opinion that no one could have replaced John, without changing the sound of the band until it was no longer Zeppelin. And he ought to know.
Hey Dave. I think it's gonna be awesome. To hear that part of the story from them. 1969 alone need THAT Input beyond stats and recordings. Only hope is that is not for casual fans but All!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories It's both amazing, and terrifying at the same time! I am more inclined to the humorous approach taken by Dread Zeppelin, it's not as scary. I just got done listening to LZ III done in the same way, it's repulsively beautiful! Like a beautiful girl with knobby knees.
62nd copy now. Go with it. "The ratio of cake to people is too big". Interesting scenario here. I think the right ones were used for ITTOD, though...maybe swap Hot Dog for Walter's Walk, but that's a big IF. To my ears, ITTOD in it's regular form is not a weak album, but it certainly does have a less-in-the-fuel-tank way about it compared to previous albums. I have four different editions of it...1 original US (Presswell/PR), 1 from the 2014 reissue run, 1 US cassette - the 2nd run that shows the titles of the songs in a 1 and 2 on the front - and 1 US CD from 1986 or whenever it was first manufactured. Don't care for any remasters of Zep albums; they're fine as is.
Ratio Cake quote hahahahahh nice. Poor Milton didn't get cake. The 2014 Pressing is quite bright sounding right? I wished they recovered some of the mid range. Presswell 1979 US works wonders. The late 80s CD yes, the Diament ones, sound quite consistent. It's sunday and i think i have a case of the mondays with crazy traffic everywhere! Hope you have a great week MichaelBoltonsEntireCatalog!
@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Ha. It's nuts out on the road here too, JCM. Just exchanged a copy of Living Colour's Vivid reissue...the first one had blots in the pressing. I like Diament's work on those Atlantic/Warner 80s CDs also. They definitely are consistent. You have a good week too. 🎸🎶
DEFINITELY Ozone Baby, Darlene and Wearing and Tearing would have made In Through the Out Door a much more cohesive album! I would personally replace Hot Dog, Carouselambra and South Bound Suarez with the 3 outtakes
@ I might be in the minority, but I’ve never been too keen on John Paul Jones’ synth textures on this song and album as a whole. It clashes with Jimmy Page’s playing for me. But I do respect and nod my head on what they were trying to pull off here
Aw man...I love those alternate song sequences but a version of ITTOD without one of Zep's great epics, Carouselambra, is hard to swallow..but I listened to that song sequence without it..and it seems to work a little. Now I hate myself for feeling that way lol
I think a video on an alternative mix and production of INTTOD would be interesting. My first tweak would be vocal levels followed swiftly by that almost imperceptible acoustic rhythm guitar in 'All My Love' and then editing out of the very cheesy synth intro to 'I'm Going To Crawl' foe me that would have been better served by a piano.
This an interesting idea, i actually recorded the intro for I'm Gonna Crawl on my ITTOD documentary series, i did it as a small tribute to the song and it certainly could have been different. The acoustic guitar no All My Love, the one you can hear on the outtake is wonderful, agree, it should have been higher in the mix!
No matter what, you cannot remove "Carouselambra". That middle angry guitar section remains one of Zep's best musical moments in my opinion. Cool video JCM.
I share your sentiments 100%. What a track...i am still amazed by it!
💜
That song and In The Evening are the best on that album, they have to stay.
Too long
Like the way you think! Thanks for watching!
With all due respect, Physical Graffiti was light years better than In Through The Out Door. Thee are many epic tracks on PG.
Hell Yeah! It was a refreshing album, 100% Thanks for watching!
I got the album as a Christmas gift the year it was released. Still have it and play it regularly, best Christmas gift I’ve ever received 👍🎄
That's awesome, hope you're still enjoying it! Thanks for watching!
The vocal mix is terrible
That's so cool. You certainly knew the album's worth. It's a TERRIFIC set. Thanks for watching!
How "Hot Dog" made it onto that album, while "Darlene", "Ozone Baby" and "Wearing and Tearing" were left off, I will never know.

Great to read this, it's really tragic what happened, they had a lot to say in the 80s!

Thanks a lot Russell! Glad you enjoyed it, coming up with the alternate track listings was hard but satisfying!

@@rokarolla It’s the same song, Jimmy reworked it as “Closer” in 1984
They went for a different direction cause remember Robert's traumatic association to the past?

ITTOD
Side A:
1. Carouselambra should be the opening just as the epic Achilles last stand opens Presence.
2. Wearing and Tearing, the heaviest minutes to keep the power up.
3. Fool in the rain slows down a bit. Closes side A with very exotic notes.
Side B:
1. In the evening with the ambient opening and then the sick riff
2. South Bound Suarez a very groovy song
3. All my love, one of the best Zepp tunes
Coda is a terrific album John, i hear you! Latter Day Zeppelin was frighteningly good.

The 80s were brutal for most classic bands indeed. The fact they didn't have the pressure to keep going really speaks well of their business camp!
Great episode,Jose. Love Outdoor. It could easily be my fav Zeppelin album. If I were to change anything it would be adding Wearing and Tearing. Darlene would be a nice addition too. Cheers 👍
Wearing and Tearing's determination to ROCK is still impressive right? Wish Jason would play this song at his shows!!!!
Wow !!!
Saludos !!
Hail and salutations from Belfast Northern Ireland 🇬🇧
Hey Abe! Merry Christmas coming up soon!
@ feliz navidad my friend.
In Through the Out Door introduced me to LZ
A superb record!
Somehow, they should have used the extended outro from All of my Love. It's outstanding, it must be one of Jimmy Page's best solos, and practically no one has heard it.
YES. the EXTENDED All My Love is KILLER. I agree with you. Too bad that wasn't on the DELUXE edition! Thanks for watching!
It definitely should have been on the deluxe. Heck, it should have been the album version.
My Go-to Alternative Version (not that I don't love the original) is:
Side 1
1. In the evening
2. Ozone baby
3. Fool in the rain
4. All my love
Side 2
1. Wearing and tearing
2. Carouselambra
3. I'm gonna crawl
Side 2 should be fine with the songs length, perhaps side 1 is a bit too long?
I’m sure Page or Jones has some crazy good stuff on tape but until
It’s fully fleshed out, it’s just ideas that were part of the process.
Swan Song with lyrics would have been awesome as the last track...
Yes John, that instrumental was there sitting, waiting for lyrics to arrive!! Thanks for watching!
It’s not hard:
Side 1:
1) In The Evening
2) Ozone Baby
3) Fool In The Rain
4) I’m Gonna Crawl
Side 2:
5) Wearing And Tearing
6) Carouselambra
7) All My Love
It’s a more upbeat - or at least, loving - ending. Page gets another rocker in there. Ozone Baby has that thing that switches up the rhythm from the first song.
I like this track listing! Does rock and ROLL! Thank you for watching!
Bought it when it came out. First Zeppelin album I ever bought. Loved it from the start.
That's awesome, man! You got to experience it first hand!
You're good! 😮 Great video; all scenarios spark mg imagination. Very cool.
Thank you!! Glad to hear it! The album is so vast, you just can't stop thinking about all the possibilities!
I'd probably buy all of the versions you propose, they actually sound amazing. Please arrange something with Jimmy and release for Christmas next year 😉
An ITTOD box set needs to happen, i would if they had the multitracks....to include the Copenhagen Shows, a best of Copenhagen 1979!
I don't comment on much so I'll just say I love what you've done with the joint. 👍💯
Yea. I always thought that a double album is the only real answer IMO. And _maybe_ the BBC Sessions could have helped with the 9th album contract. Also, maybe Page could have released more Live albums to help out with that Atlantic contract. [shrug]
Also . .
My running order, with regard to album side length and track flow is:
Side 1 - Wearing and Tearing, Walter's Walk, Ozone Baby (yep I love this one!), All My Love
Side 2 - Fool in the Rain, Carouselambra, Darlene
It's a healthy hobby to have right? Ozone before All My Love, that's a cool idea. I like your selection even though Darlene is not my favorite. Thanks for tuning in Anthony!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Thanks JCM! Wait til you see my double Coda album tracklist! :D
Please share it !!!!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Haha you asked brother, here goes! It depends on Physical Graffiti having been one disc, per your previous video
Coda - Expanded Edition
Side 1 - We're Gonna Groove, Poor Tom, In the Light, Night Flight, Down by the Seaside
Side 2 - Bron-Yr-Aur, Black Country Woman, The Wanton Song, South Bound Suarez, Hot Dog
Side 3 - In The Evening, Boogie with Stu, Bonzo's Montreux, I'm Gonna Crawl
Side 4 - Travelling Riverside Blues, I Can't Quit You Babe, Baby Come on Home, Hey Hey What Can I Do
Accordingly, my PG single album is:
Side 1 - Trampled Underfoot, The Rover, In My Time of Dying
Side 2 - Kashmir, Ten Years Gone, Houses of the Holy, Sick Again
This album is perfect the way it is. I love it and all the outtakes especially Walters Walk that song is so intense. As for Hot Dog it is a fun romp rock a billy country tune that shows the bands versatility. Jimmy Page's lead sounds so good I dare any hard rock band to write and perform something like this. Ah Hot Dog!!! They truly were Hot Dogs!
Yes, Page's tone is GREAT on the album. He didn't half a$$ anything on it, despite popular belief!
Carouselambra, I’m Gonna Crawl, In The Evening, All Of My Love. Hot Dog too haha. Can mix n match with the others. Another great vid Jose-Thanx man !
Carouselambra is definitely a good one to throw into the mixm it HAS to be there right! Thanks for watching!
In your 6 song scenario, I would do this:
1. In the evening
2. All my love (great 2nd choice smooth transition)
3. Wearing and tearing (I’m gonna crawl too slow for a side a closer- needed more heavy)
Side 2:
1. Fool in the rain (great opener)
2. Caroselambra
Totally agree wish they had worked on 10 Ribs.....
What a great Video 😊
Wearing and Tearing....... it's just an old friend....
Oh, medication, medication, medication
Hehhe, despite me saying my least favorite Zepp tunes! haha. Take care Paul!
I love the album and was the second album that I owned in November 1985
I love this album! :)
That's what i'm talking about Robert, AWESOME! Thank you for watching!
I was just watching Robert Plants: Big Log and noticed the gas station scene looks like the cover of ad Company: Desolation Angels. Also the bar scene looks like an alternative In Through The Outdoor scene where Plant is one of the people in the corner.
Great Eye David! I actually did a YT post about this. It looks like Desolation Angels. And you are right about ITTOD it feels like a nod to 1979!
I'm Gonna Crawl as SIDE A closer works, i agree with you. South Bound Saurez is a TERRIFIC number! Thanks for watching!
Agree ,carouselambra would have made a greater ending to the album
The problem with Carouselambra as side Opener, is that it gave haters a chance to THINK about their prejudice with this innovative track. As closer, it sets the tone for the 1980s!
Out Door is actually the Zeppelin album I revisit the most these days. I've had all the albums for decades and collected live tapes for a few years, but I rarely listen to any of it anymore. But once a month or two I just have to listen to Carouselambra.
Scenario 1 thank you very much. Cue new Spotify play list 😊
You're welcome 😊 Oh yes, you made a playlist, that's a great way to appreciate the what if theory! You know your stuff!!
Probably my favorite Zep album besides Physical Graffiti
Hell yeah!!! Thanks for watching!
In your 6 song scenario, I would do this:
1. In the evening
2. All my love (great 2nd choice smooth transition)
3. Wearing and tearing (I’m gonna crawl too slow for a side a closer- needed more heavy)
Side 2:
1. Fool in the rain (great opener)
2. Caroselambra
3. I’m gonna crawl.
- it’s a pity “ozone baby”wouldn’t fit; I love it- great solos also. I also love “south bound”. Maybe a double album?
- overall I think your scenario 2 would have kept the purists more happy, it rocks more.
This idea was challenging for me! Damn. It’s like asking an artist to remove two colors from their painting!
I think of this album as a complete composition - I anticipate the next track and play it as an album - a full listen.
We tend to overlook sometimes that our favorite bands (and the people within those bands) are going through changes in their lives like everybody else.
This album may not have been the record fans envisioned but after the discography they have blessed us with…it has it’s place in their story and my heart!✌️
I never overlook bands and their personal lives, but the opposite. This is why i own 62 copies of it hehe. Thank YOU for watching, great comment!
If scenario 4 existed, I'd own 79 copies of it.
Cutting Hot Dog off of In Through The Out Door is like cutting No Quarter off of Houses. OF The Holy. It becomes a completely different record.
Hehe. Yeah it's just hard cutting stuff out! Thanks for tuning in John!
I love Wearing and Tearing. It's brilliance and probably should have made the album, but I don't know at what song's expense because In Through the Out Door is a PHENOMENAL ALBUM. It stands tall with the rest of Zeppelin's repertoire.
My album version is:
Side 1
1. Bongo’s Montreaux (first 20 seconds or so)/Ozone Baby
2. Darlene
3. Wearing and Tearing
4. In The Evening
Side 2
5. Fool In the Rain
6. Carouselambra
7. South Bound Saurez
Extended version of All of My Love as a non-album single backed with I’m Gonna Crawl.
Hi José,
I have been OBSESSED with ALL of Led Zeppelin’s albums for a myriad of reasons.
PS: I’m happy with the album as it is, thank you very much.
I love all the Zep albums but have often thought the following should have happened:
1 - As it comes.
2 - As it comes though la la with lyrics could’ve been special.
3 - Hey hey what can i do for hats off to harper - perfect album
4 - As is (though I know you don’t like 4 sticks).
HOTH - the rover and HOTH for the crunge and d’yer maker - becomes possibly their best album…except…
PG - just the 8 new tracks with 5 mins trimmed from IMTOD (ditching 2 mins from the opening 4 mins for a start) and 3-4 mins from the ITL - stellar album.
I’ve always included it my version, which is a double album:
Side 1
In The Evening
Walter's Walk
All My Love
Side 2
South Bound Saurez
Ozone Baby
Fool In the Rain
Hot Dog
Side 3
Carouselambra
Darlene
Side 4
Bonzo's Montreux
Wearing and Tearing
I’m Gonna Crawl
A double album! Nice, would you call this Out Through the In Door? Thanks for watching!
@ Hah! Either that or Never Go to Texas, to paraphrase Hot Dog. Also kinda fits the seedy barroom on the album cover.
Wow, what a story! Carouselambra has the power to inspire.
The title was justified because over the following year they became the biggest selling act in the world (No1 Billboard chart 1973-74)
Hey, if Gillan hadn’t resigned and they’d had a break for a year they could have been as big as Zeppelin when they regrouped in 1975 😀 We’ll never know. However the first album with Coverdale/Hughes was a scorcher .. Burn 🔥
The song 'Fire'...wished it was finished.
Me too man, that beat is HEAVY!
It was always my favorite thing to reorder albums on cassette lol and I remember after Coda came out I did just that. Made ITTOD into a double album ala Physical Graffiti. As best I can remember ...
Side One: In The Evening, Southbound Suarez, Ozone Baby, Walter's Walk
Side Two: Wearing And Tearing, All My Love, I'm Gonna Crawl
Side Three: Carouselambra, Fool In The Rain, Bonzo's Montreux
Side Four: Darlene, Poor Tom, Hot Dog, We're Gonna Groove
Something like that lol
Btw Hot Dog is a wonderful track. I mean remember Boogie With Stu? lol Humor is a good thing yo. The only track Zep made that never did anything for me was Hats Off (To Roy Harper) which I replaced on cassette with Hey Hey What Can I Do.
This is a serious contender for a DOUBLE ALBUM what if, i like it!!! Thanks for watching!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories TY! Side four is a bit short and I think if I had a cassette player lol the last side would have been Hey Hey What Can I Do, Poor Tom, Darlene, Hot Dog, We're Gonna Groove lol
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Side three was Carouselambra Bonzo's Montreux then Fool In the rain I put them on and yeah that is the hit order right there. lol
Wearing and Tearing showed that Punk Rockers had nothing on the Zep.
Absolutely, and Punk Rockers were short sighted to think these guys were not PUNK back in 1969 with Communication Breakdown.
Darlene imo has one of the most Devastating riff in all of Riffdom at least to me. The solo to it has a lot of impact on me too
For your 'far-fetched' double: Atlantic requiring another album?
I love ITTOD ❤
THAT'S THE SPIRIT Michael! Thanks for watching!
I love the album a lot. Hopefully one day I can buy one and send it too JCM anyway
In the evening, southbound saurez, ozone baby, hotdogs, Walter's walk, all my love, fool in the rain, I'm gonna crawl, wearing and tearing. In that order
I won't hear of a ITTOD without Hot Dog!
Now that's a true ITTOD FAN! Thanks for watching!
We both know the album is perfect as-is, but I do really like Scenario A. Great track listing with good flow.
Glad you enjoyed it! It makes me think the tough time they had choosing these!
My fantasy In Through the Outdoor sequence: In the Evening, Southbound Saurez, Fool In the Rain, Bonzo's Montreaux, Carouselambra, All My Love, Wearing & Tearing, just my 2 cents
I love Bonzo's Montreux, so to have it there sorta works like Moby Dick for the 80s!
Or maybe call it Out Through the In Door? hehe. Thanks for watching!
`` Fire`` is my favorite LZ song after Presence
That beat is addictive, too bad they didn't try it at Polar Studios!
It was hard for me to consider no Carouselambra but i did it for research....haha trust me i LOVE the Song.
Scenario 3 works for me, and makes the album much stronger
Glad to hear this Paul, timeless classics all around right? Thanks for watching!
Side one
In the evening
Fool in the rain
Southbound suarez
All my love
Side two
Carouselambra
Im gonna crawl
(The lost song).
EP
Ozone baby
Darlene
Bonzos montreux
Wearing and tearing
The EP idea is tempting, maybe release it for Knebworth or a promo deal for TOUR 1980 EUROPE or.....the 1980 comeback to the States?
I loved Darlene…the song too!
👋🤪🎸🎵🎶🎵🎶
Those who refuse to admit their love of ITTOD are just fooling themselves. I appreciate the Creme magazine font.
It’s a true statement, I agree!
1. In The Evening
2. South Bound Saurez
3. Fool In The Rain
4. Darlene
5. Wearing And Tearing
6 Hot Dog
7. Carouselambra
8. Ozone Baby
9. All My Love
Side one
1)We’re Gonna Groove
2) Fool in the rain
3) Bonzos Montreux
4)Carouselambra
Side Two
1) In the evening
2)I’m gonna Crawl
3) All of my love
Side 2 is the mighty Zeppelin giving you a glimpse of LZ going into the 80s!
I really want to hear the rest of the outtake where only Bonham's drums can be heard. You can here JPJ at the very beginning for a couple of seconds.
Good take!! Although, my take as the new drummer would most certainly be Barriemore Barlow, Bonzos own choice, and what an absolute blast to have!! The double album would be my choice, of course, just to shake things a bit!🎶🎵
Oh man Barlow is a legend. His feel...masterful. i love his work on Yngwie's debut album. And Tull of course!
JPJ was of the opinion that no one could have replaced John, without changing the sound of the band until it was no longer Zeppelin. And he ought to know.
What you think about the imax Zep documentary coming out i February ? Cant wait.So far you are only one to do in depth docs.
Hey Dave. I think it's gonna be awesome. To hear that part of the story from them. 1969 alone need THAT Input beyond stats and recordings. Only hope is that is not for casual fans but All!
The "what if's" are endless with Zeppelin! Check out Led Zeppelin II if it was recorded in the 1950's! It's amazing!
I did check out that 1950's A.I, funny stuff but too bad it wasn't played by people you know? That's giving Computers too much credit.
Oh no Carouselambra replacement no hahahah! It's all good fun, hope the episode sheds light on these what if scenarios!
Haha. Hey i'm glad you checked out thd alternate sequence. ITTOD is a powerful record cause Polar Studios had a special comeback energy!
I like ozone baby with its southamerican wibe in the break and then the guitarsolo.
Innovative sounds across the record yes! Thanks for watching!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories If given some careful thought I feel it may well be quite the deep dive :)
