This cutscene hits differently after learning about Lighter's past.
he thought he gonna lose another of his friends 😢
What was it?
@@doomarang3208 Lighter belonged to a mercenary group and because of his rash decision, he lost 3 people close to him. The 3 dog tags he wears are the 3 people he lost. He's an insanely loyal guy and had gone through a horrible episode of survivor's guilt following the years of his loss. After the mercenary group, the Sons of Calydon was his new family and the thought of losing Caesar reminded him of what happened during the Mercenary Group.
Even more, in his trust event you watch the movie Nihility with him and it's revealed that he is afraid of feeling helpless. In the cutscene he couldn't stop Caesar from jumping into the flames; it made him afraid because he couldn't do anything. Then he watched Caesar fall into the fire, it made him sad because he remembered losing his family before. Finally, he removes his shades. He mentioned in his story that if he removes his shades, it feels like he's opening up old wounds. So there you have it.

I normally don't like the bait and switch thing, but this was well set up, not just for the legend but the explanation about the existence of the lake itself.

But fr tho they have so many set ups and payoffs in this games story I’d say it has better writing than hsr.

and in my case, I watched a Honkai video about a "specific character dying" earlier in the day before continuing the story
and during this part it made me go "No, are they actually gonna do it Again!?"
needless to say, it adds to the tension, and Emotional impact
@@YOUHUOUGGHHH Killing a character we barely know just for "shock value" is even cheaper. Caesar's willingness to make these kinds of sacrifices is enough to tell us who her character is. It's not her time to go yet.
@@YOUHUOUGGHHH nothing about it is cheap, it works to define her characterization, because she always wanted to be like the first overlord who himself miraculously survived jumping into Cinder Lake to save it and the Outer Ring -- she has the heart to sacrifice it all, and upon doing so discovers how the original overlord survived as well, walking in his very foot steps. Stop trying to analyze stuff without their greater context, because it just makes you come off as bitter and overly cynical for no good reason.

The way I noticed Lighter how collected he was even though we knew he was feeling devastated on the inside immediately switched to fight mode when he himself began to detect the threat to protect both Lucy & Eous is *chef's kiss*

And the way Lucy didn't care about whatever was coming until she heared the engine's sound from Ceaser's bike...
Lighter is pretty cool. Hopefully he comes home.

I’ve fallen even harder in love with him because of that 🥺 First he was trying to comfort Lucy by doing 2 really gentle pats on Lucy's shoulder, then immediately gets protective. I just- asdfhjl I love hiiiimmmmm 😭🩷 I can tell he can be a big, sweet teddy bear when he wants to be :3
I see mostly everyone talking about Ceasar but notice how 1:09 Lucy literally jumps off in desperation only to get picked up by Lighter.
While the 2 second scene is kinda funny it just shows you how much Lucy cares for Ceasar and despite a good ending being guaranteed it still hit me in the feels.
And also 'If we can't stay here, we can just leave'. It shows that at the end of the day Lucy doesn't care about anything but her friends.
Doesn't matter where they are, what they are, she just wants everyone to stays together.
I noticed this too, home girl didn't care that shes jumping off a cliff she HAD to get to Ceasar. A really good way to show just how desperate she was in the moment
And also when proxy said 'something is coming our way' Lighter was only one who instantly got ready to fight again, while Lucy just sat there in tears, because nothing more actually mattered for her, after Ceaser's sacrifice

Love the detail in Lucy’s face at 2:08 right after Caesar falls in. The way her eyes flare up and almost appear to shrink before going wide and blank. Shows how much of a shock this was to her and how much she cared.
She just deflated
And her helmet goes slightly askew, further reinforcing the metaphorical impact.
I love subtle details like that.
There's another little detail that happens with Lucy around 5:58 before she hears the motorcycle, her eyes don't have the stars in them, but when she looks up they pop up.
The animation is so good. On first play I low-key started crying especially when Ceasar said "Dont look at me like that.. because.. ill start to feel afraid" CINEMA!

I've always liked how Caesar's bike is designed like a chariot, like Julius Caesar on his chariot in The Triumphs of Caesar painted by Andrea Mantegna. Sigh I love this game

I love how now, with lighter's back story, we know exactly what he's thinking and why he looks so violently determined.
"Not another one. I can't lose another one. Not again, I can't fail." but even then, he still is forced to watch Caesar give up her life.

He might've looked composed, but he was having a breakdown inside, and still was willing to fight when the proxy announced a fluctuation nearby.

It didn't solidify Caesar as King for me. That move crowned her Hero.
What's amazing about this scene is that, at the moment, you forget that they set up her surviving this with the legend of the first Overlord because they did such a great job with it.
Also, if you think about it, Caesar did die in that lake. The insecure, directionless, not ready Caesar died in that fire, but what arose from the ashes is the new (acting) Overlord Caesar
I'm hoping she'll be made official in a future update
they did such a good job of making it seem like an old wives tale that everyone thought was impossible, that it being true despite being mentioned numerous times is an absolutely wild but believable plot twist.
Literally finished this chapter and immediately hoped on UA-cam to find this scene and zzz just posted it an hour ago. One of the best cutscenes they’ve done so far. Absolutely loved it and that SONG!!!

@@chlyox Imo, they don't have build up like this chapter did a good job doing. Unless you pay 100% attention to both games, you don't really see the bond of a lot of characters. With this chapter, they encapsulated their closeness perfectly which is why we're able to feel what Lucy feels. Also, Caesar, who is usually immature, breaks that? Muah, perfect

I don't even play ZZZ, so, I'm not being that unfair to the game, I just say what I said, that if that gives him chills, play genshin and star rail 'cause he will enjoy a lot too from the story. Wasn't mean it for ZZZ.
Some say the best stories are the ones with predictable outcomes. What matters is the delivery, and this was amazing.
Sure we knew she'd survive but SHE didn't and was willing to in order to save everyone else.
I also got spoiled looking at notorious hunt that Pompey was the final boss :(
The shines in Lucy's eyes getting bigger when she hears Caesar's motorcycle at 3:00 is a small but awesome detail, this is why I love this game so much😭

Scene missing: Lucy smacked Caesar in the face when the latter brainlessly said something like "Lucy, you lead the Sons of Calydon afterwards" during the union.

Dude I was so sad when he died. He was honestly and awesome character both in design and personality and I loved his voice actor. Can’t find who it is though it reminded me of the red head dude from is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon.

both screams from the VA's of Caesar and Lucy did amazing. Caesar's scream was like powering up as she flew off the bridge(?) and Lucy's scream was of anguish. I love it, and props to the VA's!
This was the moment the Sons became my favorite faction.
Also, I immediately recognized the singer in the song. Philip Strand, the same singer from Come Alive. I listened to him lend vocals to EDM stuff from way back in 2016-ish.
Hearing him in an official Hoyo game is actually mind-blowing. (Plus, dude has some great vocal chops)

Also, I know it’s a bit cheesy but the whole “she sacrifices herself and then comes back” still gave me chills, even if I knew she was surely coming back, it’s about the execution of the whole thing accompanied by the choreography , voice acting and music
Caesar speech about those with nowhere else to go was heartfelt
The whole super smooth falling animation with the song lyrics kicking in and the line “Don’t look at me like that, because I will start to feel afraid” gave me chills and got me a bit teary even (I’m weak to this stuff ok?!)
Then the bombastic comeback with the song popping back on with a fiercer tone instead of a somber one, I was smiling the whole way trough and was super pumped about it
I have to admit I cried manly tears whenever zzz cutscenes delivers
This was the only cutscene in ZZZ that actually made me tear up. That along with Rina’s Agent story 😭 Can’t believe how many dark themes this game has.
I LOVE that it’s not agreed to get real. That’s what separates a kid’s show or game from the real masterpieces.
Oh right i really enjoyed rinas agent story too, specially when you realize that rina WAS one of the "sweetcakes" that the granny saved in the hollow then 40 years later she returns the favor.
And I don't think it's still anywhere close to what they can achieve. We've only dipped our toes in the pool of sorrow. I expect to be truly depressed in a few versions or further, especially after the reveal at the end of this chapter.

At 1:10 that cute, precious, worried, heartbroken and desperate way Lucy said, "Caesar! Ugh, STOP!" 😩🥺😢😭💔 My heart! Lucy loved Caesar!
What really got me there was the fact that Lucy was ready to just jump down 50 odd feet just to get to Caesar faster before Lighter caught her so she wouldn’t just crash into the pipe below

This story was great, Caesars growth and determination throughout was amazing. I really like this character. She is so sweet and awesome.
This single handedly made me pull for Caesar when it happened and I couldn’t be happier that I got her. Amazing cinematogaphy. The writers and animators should be incredibly proud.

This was absolute cinema. Everything about it. The shot composition, the animation, the expressions, and the voice acting. I knew she would be fine but I still teared up. I just wished they would let the cinematic linger a moment at the end once Cesar said “we meet again” like going back to the two other sons and showing them stare in amazement before a fade to black while the song lasted an extra few seconds.
But still… this was next level. So glad I started ZZZ.
By far the best part of the story so far. I love the Sons of Calydon quite a bit.
Also, we NEED that song.

The writing, animation, and music for ZZZ are so good there's so much passion put into the game. This game deserves more praise it gets so much undeserved hate. I keep falling more in love with the story and the characters it's so well written. I can't wait to find out more about the Outer ring and story as a whole. I can't wait for Lighter's release and kit reveal in 1.3.

@@Ricky-SC HI3's a bit of a wacky case because the "Main" storyline is separate from the player-associated canon storyline. Instead of being directly immersed in the Honkai canon, you actually exist as the captain of a ship roaming a time ocean that lets you visit any timeline and retrieve any individual from that timeline at any moment. As such, unless a character is cleanly erased from existence and made inaccessible regardless of time factors, everyone can be effectively pulled.
HSR was to be considered a more uncertain case. You're assuming the role of a character integrated into the world and in the 2nd chapter (Xianzhou Luofu), a pullable character is declared MIA, presumed dead. Also in the 3rd chapter (Penacony), 2 pullable characters are identified as dream-realm entities who canonically cease to exist at the conclusion of the story arc. That said, Mihoyo probably can (and likely will) justify their continued existences in some way or another, whether it's through the canon "bad endings" you pick in the main story quests or some other development in the story that reverses the loss (especially considering the unexpected reveal in the most recent patch)
ZZZ hasn't chosen to clearly kill off any of its playable characters yet, though there's one existing lore entity that could down-the-road justify doing so while keeping them accessible: the ionized doppelgangers. Depending on how the overall narrative plays out, you could have individuals die and become replaced by doppelgangers to keep a valid headcount.
So is she overlord or nah? She kinda was meh about it.
i love how when the portal opens in the sky, and we hear the motorbike's sound, lucy recognizes it immediatly, while it takes a couple of seconds for lighter to realize it's caesar's bike. Goes to show how long lucy and caesar have been togheter.
How is mihoyo always able to hit us right in the feels every time!

I absolutely fell in love with Ceaser throughout the story and even more being able to play as her. This cutscene hit me so hard when I 1st saw it and even now it still hits the feels.

what adds drama and epicness to this scene is the realization that Caesar could really die! no one knew that there was a rift under the lava. and she, without thinking for a second, desperately rushed towards death! and only at the very last moment, seeing Lucy crying, wondered what she was doing?... this is such a powerful scene in terms of drama and character spirit! bravo!

Tho very unlikely, I'd like to think there was a chance Pompey was barely conscious even when he turned into an ethereal. Chucking Caesar's bike to give her the hint she can still make it in time before offing himself in the lake.
I would have loved this too because it would make the whole thing perfect
Way more credible that Pompey can throw her in to the rift than Caesar casually falling in the right spot
Thing is that as of now we have no example of ethereals being able to retain their original personality nor control themselves (even the “sacrifice” was feral despite being a more unique ethereal)
Like yes, Pompey ethereal form surely had some of his aspects, but absolutely not his thoughts, memories or desires (protecting the Outer Ring)
I feel that at some point we will get someone that retains their humanity in whatever capacity, but it might be too early for that plot point
