What really hit me was when you can just feel in the last moment before he cuts them off he just wants to stay in that moment forever. He was even hesitant to release them. So many tears!
That look on his face actually got me to tear up. I couldn't imagine how that felt to him, how special that was. I mean, I could, but not in full. Damn.
I'm a junior in high school considering auditioning for a drum corp my senior year, and I was looking into groups to consider auditioning for. I heard about the Troopers, which is only 2 states away from where I live, and think to myself "would this be a good corp to try out?" I look more and more into this corp, and then I find this video and, suddenly, my eyes are tearing up. I think this is a calling. UPDATE 8/12/2021: Im currently one of the 2021 Troopers, marching euphonium this season. Today is semifinals day, and I'm just standing here at the farm taking it all in. I made it. This is the place where this video was filmed, and where my journey started. It's been a long one, but I really do believe it's been worth my while. Just to be a Trooper really is what means the most right now, and I can only hope I get to march another season.
I hope you are considering trying out for the troopers dude ( I don't know if you are a guy or girl) but I would recommend it even though I haven't been in one yet lol.
This is simultaneously one of the most spectacular and most stupendous memorable moments in DCI history. Gabe was one if not one of the best drum majors in DCI History! I’m absolutely blown away at the enthusiasm and pride he has too have been marching in the DCI for 8 years! No wonder why he’s emotional and absolutely enthusiastic. Such a wonderful and amazing guy.
Man I’m crying. Brought back that feeling of when I played Autumn Leaves for the last time with the Bluecoats. I feel ya brother. Poured his heart and soul into that corps. 🤙🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Who, but who in God's name thumbs down an age out ceremony, & one that sounds like that playing Battle Hymn perfect, beautiful and in Trooper style: as it sounded centuries ago!
Man this got to me big time. I had an instructor years ago (either HS Band Director or staff with The Academy) that perfectly describes the feeling everyone in the circle, on the grass, or conducting is experiencing: “LIVE IN THIS MOMENT. When you play that last note, you will beg and plead ‘Please, God, let this final chord, this moment, last forever.’ It will be devastating for you when the answer is inevitably ‘No,’ and you will spend the rest of your life willing to give up ANYTHING and EVERYTHING just to play that chord one more time.” And they were absolutely right. I would give up every possession and every penny I own to be back with the 2009 Academy Hornline, even for a fraction of a second.
Troopers dominated DCI from it's start. They have persevered through tough times and again have become a top 10 contender. Rich with history every member should carry a great pride in accomplishment with them throughout their life.
What a beautiful tribute to those Trooper members "RETIRING" from active service with a drum corps that etched memories in these members minds. They will last their lifetime. The rehearsals, the contests, and many other activities that will always be in their memory. What an honour it had to be a part of.... I wish you the best in whatever you will undertake in your future. I was a part of a drum corps in my area. I considered being a member of the drum corps community taught me many things. Belonging, discipline, working with others, just to name a few things. I met new people and made great friends. Many of them I still am in touch with even today. It was so good to be a part of this world wide movement...
This is literally the first ever vid I saw of the troopers and I'm bout to cry. Are you freaking kidding me? It hit me at the end when Gabe paused before he cut off and it took me back to when I did band in high school. Even tho it was just a year ago I agree to a certain extent. I haven't done dci yet but planning to in the next year or two or whatever. Kinda scared now because I don't want to feel this again cuz it sucks.
Quite a moving video! I had the privilege to be in the marching band in high school (35+ years ago) and I know the emotion I experienced with my last performance. Gabe demonstrated the passion he had for Troopers. Watching him brought back a flood of emotions for myself. Thank you Gabe for being true to yourself and allowing us to share in the moment. Carry that passion throughout the rest of your walk in life no matter where it takes you. It will serve you well!
I've only been into the Troopers for a couple of years now but this corp is really inspiring to me. One thing that's always lacked in all my years of marching band was an established culture where one could be welcomed with open arms, and I'm really hoping to get in this upcoming year as a conductor/drum major. This video is so awesome because I just love how one can truly tell the conductor loves this corp simply through the movement of arms and music. A wonderful video to come back to occassionally.
There was a time where you sang or played your corps song for the last time and you never knew how much it meant to you until the minute it was over and you’d never get to do it again.
I marched in 21 and am returning again this next season but I always come back to this video and just cry. Battle Hymn is so special to everything Troopers brass.
I come back to this video wherever I need a moral boost! It's a good reminder of the dedication of every member of the corps striving for perfection. Sometimes I need a small reminder of what we accomplished together not so many years ago!
I've been following the Troopers for over 50 years and I'm always astounded by the professionalism and dedication of these young people and their directors. My father took me to my first Troopers performance at Cheyenne East High for Drums Across The Rockies and I was hooked. I can't carry a tune in a bucket but I love hearing and watching the Troopers.
The sheer passion that the troopers put into everything they do is so amazing just watching the conductor's face as he's conducting the end is truly what makes this corp great.
Very few organizations have 'tradition' as the Troopers. Each member carry's on something that last for a lifetime. For the rest of your life, people will walk up to you and shake your hand, and congratulate you on being a trooper.
Gabe, that was fantastic. The emotion of your performance here is right to next my director's at our last performance of the Verdi Requiem. You (and the Corp) were great! Thank you for the video!
Mad love bro. Aging out is the most triumphant and heart breaking moment a field musician (and obvs director) can go through. Leave legacies. No matter where you are and experiencing. ❤️
Settin itstraight I'm sorry? It's his last time conducting the corps song after being drum major there for years. I don't think he's arrogant. I think he was being rightfully emotional.
@lucky stiff: Are you an idiot or what? Being emotional has nothing to do with being arrogant. I've had dealings with gabe and he is quite arrogant. Remember, you only have one chance to make a first impression.

Wait who is this?!
@@Jake.Spinogatti Its Dave lol
The troopers have been around for many years. I think that if you want to join them, then you should.
did you get in for 2022 as well?
That man showed me what it meant to be a leader, a friend, and a trooper. We will miss you Gabe. "I am, you are, a trooper to the end."
I put off watching this until I thought I was ready emotionally ... I guess I wasn't. I'm not crying, you are.

It's also great though, those memories last forever.
Do it, its worth it, i promise you

Probably one of THE best if not best overall modern drum major. Just a great conductor!!

Such passion. That man is conducting with everything he’s got. I love it.
8 years of service.....Who does that anymore? Outstanding Troop. I am a fan from way back.

The Passion of drum corps is riveting....
You my man set your Corp into the night PROUD👍
He showed so much emotion and dedication during the performance and he looked absolutely broken after!! 💔
Tears streaming every time I played this and again watching this.

humming the battle hymn before each show always made me emotional but this day... it was on another level. i miss this season so much!!!! >”< 💛💙
Good job Gabe. Your love of music and your job definitely showed.

He's a low brass intern for the mandarins now! I am auditioning with them and I met get to meet him!
Wow. Well played, well performed and great filming...stunning! Oh ya, the drum major crushed it! Very powerful.
Great ceremony. Just one of the reasons the cavalry is so loved!!
I was fortunate to be a drum major in high school for 2 years. The emotion and passion on his face brought back so many memories of pride!
Homie really said “let’s gooooooooo!!!!!!!!”
Best drum major and leader powerful performance
That right there is Pure Passipn, Reminiscing, and Fury. I've never seen all that energy from someone conducting
Spectacular, absolutely spectacular, you can see the Pride and Passion in his conducting.
IM SOBBING

Trve_Kvlt_784 yes
I'm feeling matt harloff vibes
BECOME A TROOPER AT www.marchtroopers.com/
When is his birthday if he marched 8 years?
He probably turned 21 mid season of his age out, our something similar.
this is like the wolf of the wallstreet but musical
That was even hard for ME to watch......And thats saying something.
Who cut the onions?
No way. I know this guy. He teaches my marching band.
My boy went all matt harloff on these mfs
Oh stop with the boo hoo
Quite an arrogant guy.
